TalkBack / Re: How I Got My GameCube - A Remembrance of a System Launch
« on: November 19, 2011, 01:34:00 AM »
*wewt* OGCN represent! 8)

I too lament the lack of the spice 'Cube. I went for purple (was it really called indigo?) but would have given it away and bought the orange one in a second. I'm on my second 'Cube, the first having been stolen. This one is a goner though since controller port 1 is dead. :(

Like most folks I picked up things to use with it before it was launched. I went in well after opening, like mid-day, and they still had plenty. Rogue Leader was king with me. Monkey Ball was great too.

The GCN reminds me of the internet and the IGN boards. I had gotten a new TiBook and was a newb on the gaming forums at that time too, but it was all tied together and was great fun. I've "known" Mr. Bivens since about then, too, from the IGN I-Board. A real good guy, he is. I remember them all fondly. Well, most of them...  :-X ;)

Cheatin' ass.... *shun*

Metroid Prime was a fantastic game, but so much of a chore that the thought of replaying it has never crossed my mind. Well, it may have crossed but I'm pretty sure I chased it out. Really though it was a haunting experience that really did pull you (well, me) in.

Honestly makes no difference to me at this point. I've never bought a system based on its online capabilities. If it's too invasive I may not buy it, actually.

In the end I'd rather they did it themselves. The fewer hands and eyes on my junk the better.

Sunshine is underrated. The shadow world levels were pure platforming bliss. Like the Bowser levels in SM64, only better somehow. I like that they didn't try FLUDD in the Mushroom Kingdom and instead placed it in a side trek. We've had mushrooms and suits and hats that all changed Mario, but this was an accessory. Needing a more strategic approach it was slower paced even though it was more battle oriented, and overall I liked it. Not the best Mario, but no where near as bad as many people decry it.

Animal Crossing was a great experience that I will always remember. The nicest touch was the gyroids. I quickly developed a gyroid jones. Also nice was the NES games. Not sure I'll continue with the next one. I can't get over the proportions of the character being so different.

Now, now. As gaming journalists / bloggers / nerds you're supposed to decry the 3DS and its pathetic, miserable sales and how Nintendo are failing left and right and that the gaming world would be so much better off were Nintendo to develop for cell phones rather than continue to expand it. Of course repeating this ad infinitum.

Or not. You could also be reasonable human beings I suppose.

Could be that Robin Williams doesn't want to alter his image here. You used to be able to, and probably still can, find ads featuring famous Hollywood types from other countries when they'd never done one here. Hard to demand a giant studio fee when you're moonlighting for Madison ave.

Re: Rogue Leader

I still play this game and it still holds up. Maybe because I am (was?) a huge Star Wars fan, but this game was nothing short of a home run for Factor 5. Too bad RS III was such a turd. Co-op RS II was great, though.

Re: Super Monkey Ball

I was very surprised how much fun this game is. None of the sequels have exceeded it.

Oh wow, Warp Pipe and the LAN adapter. Never got a version of Warp Pipe to work right... something about the lappy I was using at the time... so long ago.

Never could get into PSO. Played it a few times but it seemed to mostly be people standing around chatting. No thanks. Plus it was a SEGA game and SEGA games *suck*!  ;D

TalkBack / Re: 3DS Video Update Details
« on: October 21, 2011, 10:19:58 AM »
As bad as the cameras are on it I'm really not excited about this at all. If I'm gonna make a video I want it to be something I can stand to watch and share. The cameras on the 3DS are a much more a novelty than the 3D ever was.

161
Hmmm... I dunno if I buy it from the included screenshot. If they expect me to believe the Wii can't generate that level of detail they're not doing a very good job.

Half the charm was the retro look and feel. I guess 80 year old cartoons count as retro, but still.

I consider this totally good news.

I always loved the Camelot games. I'll hope for another one of those and not a Sports Mix style game.

D00000m3d!!!

Oh, sorry. But seriously, these "analysts" need to find a real job already. The only two things these chuckle heads know about anything is Jack and Squat. Proof? Nintendo, undeniably by sane men, the single greatest video gaming company, a company in a league of their own, should develop Facebook games.  :o Get off it, talking heads!

TalkBack / Re: Fading Mr. Fox
« on: September 07, 2011, 01:59:33 AM »
I remember getting Imagic's Star Voyager and just being so utterly content. For the first time I could fly! Through space! I loved that old POS so much. I literally remember my 11 y.o. mind thinking, "This is how video games should be."

Fast forward to Star Fox. This is seriously cool, but the tech hasn't caught up to the concept.

Fast forward to Star Fox 64. This is it. Done! All it can do from here is look smoother.

And apparently get out of the ship... WTF, why is he getting out of the ship?? That's not flying through space! **** off, Rare!

Seriously, if it ain't flying through space it ain't worth it. Star Fox is flying around, blasting bad guys. Anything else ruins it. I also have to agree with getting EAD back on this mofo.

Gleeks? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gleeking#Gleeking  ???  :P

Kill me. Instead of making a simple YouTube flash application or something, Nintendo wastes their time making a stupid service with stupid videos with a stupid concept. Talk about LET DOWN.
The battery runs out fast enough. Adding Flash support would make it run down so fast you could hear it. Google / YouTube need to get on making a stand alone 3DS client. Hell, Netflix did it. YouTube re-encodes videos to H.264 MP4, so no Flash would be required. Just support in the 3DS, which seems to be a mystery.

TalkBack / Re: Investors Heavily Criticize Nintendo's Performance
« on: August 12, 2011, 01:17:35 AM »
Diluting a brand as strong as Nintendo is very shortsighted and would completely undermine their ability to engage the audience on their own terms and in ways the audience hadn't thought of before, which is one of the things that has made them so endearing.

It's hard to argue with the success of smartphones and tablets (ie, the iPad) in the current global economy. You have to remember that's all these talking heads are looking at. They can't see the forest for the trees, as it were.

Although I do still love the idea someone here had about putting out a Nintendo WFC or friends app that would let you manage and communicate with your Ninfriendos™.

I loved this one [ActRaiser]. When it showed up on the Wii VC I bought and played it through. A couple times even since my Wii failed and had to be exchanged.

Now if only I could get through Super Ghouls And Ghosts...

I'll never complete that game (Find Mii) before I die at the rate I'm going. I'm just not urban enough, I guess.

Store credit would have been rad because there aren't many (*any* really, but only because of the way the eSHop payment system works) of the freebies I'm very interested in.

iSupply is a joke. A bad one at that. Oh really? It costs that much? Well make one, jackass!

173
Sweet. Maybe now the "analysts" will have a chance to get off the 3DS-is-d00med bandwagon and STFU. Some people will wail about it, but I think most people are used to this type of news. I'm not fazed at all by it.

But I do hope they make the DS Lite dirt cheap now and don't EOL it. Been meaning to get a replacement Lite for a youngin' that a youngerin' tore in half.

Not easy? Are you in 1st grade?
Actually, no I am not.

Perhaps you care to explain why the B button suddenly stops working while viewing a screenshot? Or why there are only five titles per page on the wish list? Or why you have to back out to the main menu to be able to search by title / keyword? Why is text searching not part of the "Search" menu item where it would seem to make a lot of sense? How about utilizing saved searches? Any idea how infinitely useful those are? How about auto-complete based on what's available in the eshop? And how about my 1-click starts a vid? "Ooh, there's a vid! *click* *joy*"

Like I say, it does look nice and it loads pretty zippy, but it needs a jolt in the usability department.
