NWR Mafia Games / Re: Mafia LVII:Friendship is Chaos Day 3 Canterlot
« on: August 21, 2012, 08:08:31 AM »
I tried to tell you guys that we had to tread carefully. There goes another townie role. Strange, however, that there was no mafia hit. This may mean that there is an inactive player amongst the mafia.

I've looked back, and on Day 1 five people didn't check in. UncleBob, Oblivion, Stevey, Mop it Up and FzeroBoyo.

Second day comes around. Stevey and Oblivion post. I believe Oblivion being busy with his work. On stevey, there's nothing too suspicious.

I looked at the roles, and it didn't say anything about a delay in the new godfather being chosen. I think that we can outrule Uncle and focus on the last two. This is Fzero's fist game, so I'm not sure if he'd be mafia or not. Mop it Up might be a better candidate, but this is just some logic I'm throwing around. We're going to vote ourselves into the ground if we don't take this one carefully.

Now, before we go shooting off our votes, make sure you know what you're doing. I'm not saying bustin is any more innocent. Our moves have to be careful from now on.

It would help if jr came to speak out. I'll just vote JR until further notice. I get impatient with inactivity fast  :-\

Change of mind. I'm withholding my vote until jr comes to answer for himself. If not, then I'll see where the tide is going towards from there. The vote is split between two of my suspicions, so I want to make sure I get a clear shot. With our investigator gone, we can't afford to be wrong.

Well, another thing was that apdude banwagon that popped out of nowhere. One of those voters was a mafia member, so it could be possible, though unlikely, that some more of them tagged along trying to pass by as townies following a vote.

Those would be ShyGuy, S-U-P-E-R, Ceric, and jrlibrarian.

Now Ceric can be taken out of this rotation since he was slain by whoever earned the katana sword. S-U-P-E-R and ShyGuy were all in the beginning, but then jrlibrarian jumped in later with one quick vote and disappeared. Suspicious, maybe.

I'll vote bustin for now, see how things turn out from there. Not enough people around to make some real judgements. Kind of sad how this game is as inactive as it is.

Well, that was an interesting day. Lost two townies but took out a leading mafia member as well. That was pretty successful for a first day.

I've got to head out since my little cousin is going swimming and someone (unfortunately me) has to watch him. I'll be back later. Hopefully there will be more activity in this game!

He could be mafia or a townie for all I know. Either way, first day or not, this bandwagon came on rather suddenly and puzzles me for how it sprouted out.

A lot of spread out voting here... and I'm not feeling like bandwagoning apdude.

I'm not sure who to vote anyways :/

Vote ShyGuy. Nothing personal, just throwing a vote.

Hopefully more people show up. I don't want to throw out a random vote, even if it is Day 1.

Welp, let'se see how this goes. First day in a Mafia game that could be of questionable activity... hmm...

I'm not one for vendettas, so I'll just wait for everyone else to show up with theirs.

The movement itself is similar (how they charge), which is why I didn't say it was exactly cloned.

Now onto Fox and Falco.

Movements as based off of a Gamecube controller.

Standard A (Fox): Two punches followed by rapid kicking
Standard A (Falco): Two punches followed by rapid punching (or feather swipes)
Verdict: Very similar/cloned
Over-A (Fox): Fast forwards kick
Over-A (Falco): Fast forwards kick
Verdict: Cloned
Up-A (Fox): Handstand kick?
Up-A (Falco): Double punch (or feather swipe)
Verdict: Not cloned
Down-A (Fox): Tail swipe
Down-A (Falco): Feather swipe (his tail feather)
Verdict: Cloned
Standard B (Fox): Lazer gun
Standard B (Falco): Lazer gun, shoots slower
Verdict: Very similar/cloned
Over-B (Fox): Quick dash
Over-B (Falco): Quick dash
Verdict: Cloned
Up-B (Fox): Fox cannon, sending player upwards in a blaze of fire
Up-B (Falco): Falcon cannon? Sending player upwards in a blaze of fire
Verdict: Cloned
Down-B (Fox): Reflecter
Down-B (Falco): Kicks out a reflector
Verdict: Very similar/cloned
Aerial A (Fox): Kick
Aerial A (Falco): Triple punch (or feather swipe)
Verdict: Not cloned
Aerial Over-A (Fox): Four rapid kicks (or maybe five)
Aerial Over-A (Falco): Sideways spinning movement
Verdict: Not cloned
Aerial Up-A (Fox): Strong flip kick
Aerial Up-A (Falco): Strong flip kick
Verdict: Cloned (the movement, strength, and general area of damage of these kicks makes it a different case then Falcon and Ganon's)
Aerial Down-A (Fox): Downwards spinning movement
Aerial Down-A (Falco): Downwards spinning movement
Verdict: Cloned
Aerial Back-A (Fox): Spinning kick
Aerial Back-A (Falco): Spinning kick
Verdict: Cloned
FINAL SMASH (Fox): Landmaster tank
FINAL SMASH (Falco): Landmaster tank

Here again we see more copied special moves, and even some standard movements are very similar, if not cloned. Even people against the "Falco is a clone" players agree that having a FINAL SMASH copied is ridiculous, even so that a third character has it (but other than that, Wolf is much more unique). The movesets are very similar, making these characters more alike than Ganon and Falcon. The main difference is that Fox has less air time (his jumps are quicker and he falls fast) while Falco has more (jumps are higher and he falls at a slower rate).

I don't even remember what points is. I always played Stock.

So I see that some of the conversation here centers around clones. I hope that the movesets become more unique, because there are still a few present in Brawl, though there were a few cut out in the transition from Melee. Since I know this will be argued to a point, I have done my own moveset research of the trending cloning pairs. The movesets are as based off of a Gamecube controller.

First off is C. Falcon and Ganondorf.

Standard A (Falcon): Three-hit combo followed by rapid punching
Standard A (Ganon): Electric Punch (or shove)
Verdict: Not cloned
Over-A (Falcon): Roundhouse kick
Over-A (Ganon): The 'Sparta Kick'
Verdict: Not cloned
Up-A (Falcon): Brings leg up and then crashing down on foe
Up-A (Ganon): Brings leg up and then crashing down on foe after a few seconds of charge time, dealing more damage.
Verdict: Very similar/cloned
Down-A (Falcon): Leg sweep
Down-A (Ganon): Low kick
Verdict: Not cloned
Standard B (Falcon): Powerful punch that deals high damage after being charged for a second or two.
Standard B (Ganon): Powerful punch that deals high damage afetr being charged for a second or two.
Verdict: Cloned
Over-B (Falcon): Charge that punches enemy upwards.
Over-B (Ganon): Charge that slams enemy down.
Verdict: Very similar/cloned
Up-B (Falcon): Upwards movement that latches onto an enemy it connects with, then launching off of that enemy.
Up-B (Ganon) Upwards movement that latches onto an enemy it connects with, then launching off of that enemy.
Verdict: Cloned
Down-B (Falcon): Charging kick
Down-B (Ganon): Charging kick
Verdict: Cloned
Aerial A (Falcon): Double-kick
Aerial A (Ganon): Double-kick
Verdict: Cloned
Aerial Over-A (Falcon): Electric Knee
Aerial Over-A (Ganon): Downwards punch
Verdict: Not cloned
Aerial Up-A (Falcon): Flipping kick
Aerial Up-A (Ganon): Flipping kick
Verdict: Cloned (though many other characters share this move as well)
Aerial Down-A (Falcon): Downwards leg thrust
Aerial Down-A (Ganon): Downwards leg thrust
Verdict: Cloned
FINAL SMASH (Falcon): Falcon Drive: Sends a car out at a certain length, damaging anyone hit by it in a short scene on a racetrack
FINAL SMASH (Ganon): Charging Boar: Transforms into a giant boar that charges across the screen
Verdict: Not cloned

Now I think the main problem, and the main reason why people believe Ganon and Falcon to be clones, is that they share very similar or cloned special moves. However, looking at their standard moves, there aren't as many cloned movements. Since special moves are meant to be unique to the character, and the two fighters share very similar or cloned specials, this causes them to be labeled as clones. Similar, yes, completely cloned, no. But too similar for the taste of me and many other gamers. Especially since Ganon has had many video game appearances that attacks can be drawn from.

I think ShyGuy will start a rebellion of his own.

At this rate I think the forums will soon be in grave danger.

Samus had some poor transitioning, and there's also the fact she's made a little too comedic for my taste (I'm mainly talking about her incredibly stupid sprint animation). All of the originals have changed so much. Notably, Luigi is less of a Mario clone and actually kind of a powerhouse when in the hands of a skilled player. However, his recovery is harder to pull off, and it's common for a non-human player to screw it up, something you'll see happen frequently in Melee specifically. Mario's down-B got replaced with the Sunshine hose (a fairly useless attack) and then his aeriel down-A is now what down-B used to be (which sucks since both of those attacks were powerful). Then Captain Falcon's Falcon Punch has been slowed down (it's not by much, but enough to be noticeable), even though it was balanced already with the damage dealt even enough with the time spent charging it. Probably one of the good transitions was Link's recovery, which wasn't worth **** in the first installemt of the series.

And I'm not sure if it's just me, but the computers are less agressive. They are challenging and tough, but lack the in-your-face tactics from Melee. In SSBM, if you put up your shield, the opposing CPU would go for a grab. Now they don't necessarily do that and often leave themselves open to attacks.

Of course, my least favorite aspect of it all is between Wi-Fi or Stage Builder. Not only is the piece limit ridiculous and unneeded, but the computer players generally play poorly on any stage that's made to have any cool depth or design. If you've played Brawl's Wi-Fi, it deserves no explanation. Very rarely do you find players that aren't teabagging friendlies that probably couldn't grab a Lv.1 Ganon if they tried.

In light of this, I haven't played Brawl in quite some time. Or my Wii console in general.

I love how there was this rush of people signing up, now suddenly all is quiet.

895
But I like my numbers even.

896
Characters are overpowered in Brawl usually pertaining to the skill of the player. Personally, MK isn't that unbalanced to me. He's lightweight and can be knocked pretty easily. Novice players like to pick him up for the same reason as Ike: sword spamming. Idealy, a good MK player can be overpowered at points, but as said before, player skill is involved.

Of course, outside of MK, there are obvious character flaws, such as Ganondorf's horrendous transition from being a powerhouse in Melee and then to being the perfect punching bag. There are others aside from that, but that's definitely the one that stands out the most.

897
If you want to make yourself feel better, flip the numbers so it's like he's praising you.

Left 4 Dead 2 at a Best Buy. More than twenty bucks and it wasn't used or had some other discount, yet the game's been out for quite some time. I rotate it out with the first game and alternate playing them.
