TalkBack / Re: Wii U Press Event Set for September 13 in New York City

Certainly later than I expected, and plenty of us were thinking it would be revealed via Nintendo Direct, but I guess I'm just glad we're getting 1st-part info period.  I guess this way, too, regular news outlets are more likely to catch wind of the announcement, making more people aware it's a new console (if only a few).

Final Issue Surprise:  Nester confirmed for Smash Bros!

I'm certainly going to get on that final issue, framing it and potentially getting it signed.

So check out this Square Enix countdown.

Considering the timer font and the fact that Tetsuya Nomura’s & Gen Kobayashi’s names are on the bottom of the page, this is looking to be for the announcement of a sequel to The World Ends With You.  At the very least, it's TWEWY related.

The timing of this title is perfect, actually.  I'm moving to Cambridge, MA this Thursday, and I have to stuff as much into as few boxes as possible. XD

That's one small download for Mario, one giant leap for Nintendokind.

If OnLive goes down that's just fine.... just means less competition for Ouya. ;)

Except Onlive is working with Ouya.  So...

Just got Rayman Origins at Best Buy for $10.  I'm moving to a new apartment with 3 other roommates, and this will be a great way to break the ice.  Too bad the Best Buy I went to didn't carry Rhythm Heaven Fever anymore (given the current $5), as we're all music students.

Can't wait to be done buying furniture and finally have enough for a Wii U + game or two so I can finally buy Xenoblade and The Last Story.

It's a good thing then that we can still use our Wii remotes for Wii U. Whether or not they see much support is another matter entirely but at least developers have the option.

Anyone who's afraid of non-Gamepad controllers not being supported need not for one reason:  Only 2 Gamepads can be used at a time.  U Pro controllers will be accounted for regularly in every game that allows for 4 players.  It remains to be seen if developers are convinced that many people still have Wiimotes, let alone Wiimotes and Nunchucks, but hopefully they also support that input along w/ U Pro.

I see what you did there.

Also, definitely have to agree with Squalid Pumpkin on this one.

Woah!  Look at those graphics!  The definition on that stick figure's body.  It's almost as if it were hand-drawn.

Joking about conceptual sketches aside, I like the idea of facing opposite directions.  I'd like to think people wearing glasses would still cheat, though.

Actually, the use of less power-ups is not unlike Super Mario World.  Sure there's things like the P balloon and Yoshis, but only having Mushrooms, Fire Flowers and Cape Feathers is a demonstration of more focus in the power-ups compared to 3.

I remember a time when the Wii was the most popular Netflix device.

There's a free publication that my local record shop, Burger Records, carries called Pork!.  In their first issue, they talked about how awesome it was surfing through random Netflix categories on the Wii.  Thanks for reminding me of that.

It's THE mockumentary. I believe it originated the genre.

The Rutles' mockumentary, All You Need is Cash, predates it, but This is Spinal Tap certainly was the major breakthrough that popularized the genre.  Be sure to watch both, btw.  Neil Innes is a master music writer, whether it be in the Bonzo Dog Band or in The Rutles.  Spianl Tap fans should also seek a copy of Return of Spinal Tap, a live concert film with a cameo by The Folksmen who are listed as the opening act but miss the performance.

Also, I'd imagine Ikea and the University of California family of schools will be happy with this color choice.

You heard the title, start thinking of hidden Nintendo messages!

BTW, I was the walrus.

Move flopped because Sony quietly let it loose like a fart in the wind, and then nothing more was ever said about it or done with it. There was like one Kevin Butler commercial for a short time and that was it. Meanwhile, Microsoft has been pushing Kinect really hard, and that's why they've managed to carve out a market for it. Sony's problem with Move was they didn't try.

Which is really sad, considering they were sitting on the tech since 2000 when a prototype was demoed.

General Gaming / What Makes A Sonic Adventure Game?
« on: July 24, 2012, 06:31:08 PM »
So given the recent hubub about Sonic Adventure 3's domain registrations and Hunnid-P doing a new Knuckles theme, I'd like to pose this question:  What are the defining aspects of a Sonic Adventure game?

I ask this because I saw someone arguing that Sonic 06 is effectively Sonic Adventure 3 (even though I'd give that title to Sonic Heroes).  What's a legitimate reason for Sonic 06 or even Sonic Heroes not being a Sonic Adventure game, aside from the name?  Are these differences enough to warrant a different series?  Does it possess a distinct DNA, or did it lose its sense of separate identity in the wake of the other 3D Sonic games have come out since?

Screw all that noise; Grabbed by the Ghoulies HD Remix!

Not obscure enough.  Time for a new Jetpac game!  :cool;

But I'm sure the question on everyone's minds is when will Dark Matter Birdo be available?

Well this certainly nips it in the bud:  Nintendo Everything asked Activision, and they got the "no platforms officially announced" response.

TalkBack / Re: Deadpool Game Coming to Wii U
« on: July 15, 2012, 08:05:49 PM »
This was a misinterpretation.  There are no currently confirmed platforms Deadpool will be on (though I think we can assume Wii U would get it anyway).  Here's the question as it appeared on the liveblog:

Q: Deadpool is awesome. I wanted to ask about the Kinect game. Can I play? (a fan in a wheelchair asks)
"The Kinect game" is Avengers: Battle For Earth, also coming to Wii U.  Because they said Deadpool is awesome, it's been misinterpreted as a confirmation for Wii U.

I'm surprised you published this story, Kairon, as you were the one who corrected me on this in the first place.

"You will be able to play on the WiiU!"

It actually hasn't been announced for any platform yet (don't worry, I made the same mistake earlier).

By "the Kinect game," they are referring to Avengers: Battle for Earth which will also be coming to Wii U.
