So, like tomorrow is a two for one kind of days.  It's Friday the 13th, and it's going to be a Full Moon.  So instead of just the regular superstitions, you have to figure in that tomorrow will also have all the crazy people come out.

I think I will lock all the doors and stay inside tomorrow!

General Chat / Media Bias: Sony PSP vs. Nintendo DS?
« on: June 25, 2004, 05:46:37 AM »
In the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, the wannabe journalists, who long ago in my opinion used up their last bit of relevance for integrity in unbiased reporting, have expressed their opinions on which is better, the Sony PSP or the Nintendo DS.  I am not really bothered by who they chose as the victor in who's opinion among themselves tries to outdo another and I knew which system they would pick even before I opened the magazine, but my gripe is something I have noticed more and more lately coming up when commenting on the touch screen of the DS.  Why is it even an issue to talk about?  I don't mean as issue of why it was even included but an issue that seems so Godly important is about using the screen with "greasy fingers or stylus".  Okay, first off, Yes there is a chance that the screen after a while will begin to show scratches, and other signs of wear.  It's almost like PDA's with touch screens have never existed, at least the behavior of the people at EGM give that impression.  For a bunch of people who try so hard to be professional, they sure do come off like a bunch of braying idiots.  The reason why I am even bothering talking about this issue, is that there is a seemingly obvious bias from EGM, who, among others because when they can't find a major issue to bitch about, they bring up the issue about the touch screen and having to use fingers and/or stylus and it leaving marks or scratches on the screen as if it is their frigging trump card on why the machine is doomed.

"Oh Noes!! The machine is doomed the screen will get a scratched up" they cry.  They act like touch screens have never been used in life before and they don't know how to act around them.  Really, come on you asses, get real.  I know for a fact, Fellowes ® makes screen overlays that are expressly for the purpose of protecting touch screens on PDA's from the terror and extreme danger of greasy fingers and stylus' that the idiots at EGM so fear and use as their so-called trump card to place the Nintendo DS as a system doomed and try and give more credence as to why the Sony PSP is the better system.  And does anyone think that there will not be a company or two out there that will sell screen overlays made specifically for the touch screen on the Nintendo DS?  If there are people that don't think there will be, they are stupid and shouldn't be allowed to own the system at all.

As far as I am concerned, the protection of the touch screen is going to be a non-issue.  The issue of when the choice between the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP is going to come down to three things games, cost of the systems/games and the quality and craftsmanship of the systems themselves, and right now, while no cost has been revealed, let alone finalized, the Nintendo DS is leading the Sony PSP.  How long do you think it will be before the first reports of system malfunctions coming from consumers that bought a Sony PSP?  Is anybody, but the loyalist Playstation diehard's going to penny up the as high and $250-300 for a portable system?  Right now, there is no single game announced for the Sony PSP that is going to be a system buyer for me.  Right now, there is talk from Konami for both a Castlevania and a Silent Hill game of the Nintendo DS, Square-Enix is said to be making a new version of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the Nintendo DS, among other stuff.  I don't care how the games look, how well they make use of the two screens or of the touch screen, the Nintendo DS is the system that has the games I want to play right now.  I'm not saying I won't buy a Sony PSP, but not until it has some games that interest me.

So in closing, it just royally aggravates me that they pick the most insignificant thing to focus on and bitch about, but barely even picking up on the fact that Sony will rather ignore and deny that a problem exist with their hardware than admit that they build their systems poorly with what can only be describe as intentionally done to boost consumer sales.

General Chat / Convenience VS. Piracy
« on: March 05, 2004, 05:05:37 AM »
Note: This is not about where to get ROMS, not about how to play ROMS, nor about Emulators, this is my opinion on why I think it should be okay to play some ROMS

ROM's
Convenience VS. Piracy

The videogame business is a billion dollar industry, as large as the movie industry, if not larger, and just as the movie studios are having to deal with the swelling insurgence of piracy robbing them of profits, so does the videogame industry.  This piece is not about the philosophical importance of piracy as how it is costing companies million (billions?) of dollars each year, but the idea behind it instead.  Videogame companies, Nintendo, Sega, and many more claim that copying their games cost them money, and that I will agree with, but only to an extent.  I believe Nintendo when they say that piracy is bad, and it cost them money, but I think they and many other companies take it too far.  If I were to download a ROM of Metroid Zero Mission for the GBA then I would be denying Nintendo the money they deserve for me playing that game, because the game is readily available in practically any store that sells Game Boy Advance games.  But I do not believe, nor do I accept the argument that Nintendo is losing money if I were to download a ROM of Metroid 2, which was made for the original Game Boy.  I can not just walk into any store that sells videogames and find this game.  I am only using Metroid 2 as an example, I actually own the cartridge so downloading it in a mute point here.  But how is Nintendo, or any other game manufacturer losing money if they no longer produce or are selling the game.  You can say that if infringes on their copyright, and well that would be true, but the major point they are trying to make and are preaching is it is costing them money.  If Nintendo (I will use Nintendo from now on not as a single entity, but only to represent the entire videogame industry) wants me to believe that downloading Metroid 2 is costing them money, then re-release the game so that it is available in stores.

Then comes the other part, games that were never translated or never released outside of any one particular territory.  Take Dragon Quest 5 and 6 for example.  Neither game was translated for released outside of Japan, but Dragon Quest 4 was, and Dragon Quest 7.  You have two games in a franchise that are part of a trilogy that started with Dragon Quest 4 (Dragon Warrior 4) which was translated and released on the NES, but the second and final game in the trilogy were not.  The only way to play these games is to either be lucky enough to find the actual cartridge and play the game knowing the Japanese language, or find a ROM of the games and a translation patch and enjoy them.  Both games are for the SNES and pretty much not going to be released outside of Japan.  You can argue that Dragon Quest 5 should still be protected because it is being remade for the PS2, I don't believe that unless the original version, the SNES version is included as a whole playable game with the remake, otherwise they are two completely different games.  Then you have Terranigma, the third game in the series that started with Soul Blazer, then Illusion of Gaia.  Both Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia were released in North America, but he third game Terranigma was never released here, it was released in the PAL territories instead.  So the only way I could play the game is to find an import copy and modify it to play in my SNES, or I can download the ROM of an old game that is no longer available for purchase. By the way the games listed just above are all Enix games.

As far as I am concerned, unless Nintendo is going to make their games readily accessible for purchase, they then can't say they are losing money when people download ROMS of their older games because if they are not making them and they are not in stores, then how are they making money off them in the first place?  Well, how about the name brand?  That could be a good argument, but still comes down to the fact that the games in question are not available and Nintendo is not willing to make the older games available.  I personally believe that downloading a ROM of Metroid is wrong because the original NES game is available in both Metroid Prime and Metroid Zero Mission, but Metroid 2 is fair game because as of right now I know of now way to play the game other than to spend time trying to find the game.

I just can not accept the argument that I am costing the industry money if I were to go and download a ROM of a game that is either no longer available to immediate purchase, like just about any GBA and GCN game, or was never localized for non-Japanese reading game players.  I feel that if Nintendo was to make their claims to piracy stronger, then release and make obtainable their catalogue of games, then by putting them out their for sale, they can fairly say that downloading a ROM of any of those games is a crime because you can just go down to the local Wal*Mart and purchase the game you want.  I like the idea Nintendo is doing with their Famicom Mini series, but also don't like the idea because they are selling them separate when they could put several on one cartridge, or many many more on a GCN disc, but at least they are making them available again, and if made available in North America I may be able to play some of those NES games I missed out on because I was too young to have the money to buy any game I wanted.

There are people out there that download ROMS of games and think of it as renting, and will then go and buy the actual game if they like it.  But that is not the same, a game that is available for rent has been purchased, whereas downloading is unadorned stealing.  While the thinking behind the download/check/then buy is a feel good idea, it still doesn't solve anything because I think the number of people who actual then go and buy the game are in the minority.  I don't download GBA games because they are inexpensive (for me) and because I can find just about any GBA I would want just by checking the online stores I doing the majority of my purchases from.

In closing I want to say I don't think it is right to download ROMS, but if that is the only means* in which one can play the game then I see no real evil in that because I believe Nintendo lost all rights to complain they are losing money when they sit on the game and refuse to make it available to the masses that want to play the game, and then say no you can't download a ROM because it is taking money away from them.

*This only stands for games that are discontinued and no longer available, specifically, NES, SNES, Game Boy and possibly some Game Boy Color games.  GBA games are off limits, even if they are not available because they are newer and will possibly be easier to track down a copy than it would be to find a NES or SNES game.

Also, what anybody else does is none of my business and I don't think any different of you because of my opinion.  As far as I am concerned once you are my friend, you are my friend and if you do something that I don't agree with opinion-wise, it doesn't mean we aren't friends anymore.  And if I have talked with you on MSN then I consider you a friend.  I just thought I would add that so anybody wouldn't think I can't like them because of something they may do. ^_^

Reader Reviews / Mario & Luigi
« on: November 21, 2003, 09:15:21 AM »
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Mario & Luigi is at best in describing, being the third game in the Super Mario RPG series, and rightfully deserves its place in the series.  Graphic-wise M & L is beautiful, the graphics are colorful and greatly convey the whimsical story that M & L presents.  The game starts off innocently enough with a witch and her escort visiting Princess Peach in guise, and stealing her voice and replacing it with explosive.  When she speaks, the words are replaced with icons of sorts that fall to the ground and explode.

Music-wise, M & L presents classic Mario themes, and overall the music is rather good. (Don't expect me to be real deep when it comes to music because I don't pay much attention to it on the GBA because I usually turn the volume down low as not to disturb those around me)  But unlike some games, the music in M & L did not make me want to turn the volume down all the way.  So in other words it didn't irritate me and make me grate my teeth.

Game play-wise, the game controls well.  You must use both the "A" and "B" buttons to control Mario and Luigi, in and out of battle.  Outside of battle you use the start button to switch positions for Mario and Luigi, and by switching back and forth you can use special abilities.  By pressing the "L" shoulder button, you can switch between these abilities.  Mario can jump of top of Luigi and doing a spinning move that can carry the brothers over gaps, while Luigi can jump on top of Mario to perform a high jump that can get them to higher ground.  After playing the game for a while, you gain the use of hammers, that can break certain obstacles.  You can jump while walking around, to hit blocks that float above the ground, that give coins or items.  Enemies move around the map as you do and you can engage battle or for the most part ignore them.  You can jump on them to give them extra damage at the start of the battle, or after you acquire the hammer, you can hit them to stun them (I don't remember if the hammer does any damage at the beginning of the battle, because I only know that it has only stunned them for a short while as far into the game that I am.)  But beware, that if you jump at and enemy and miss and the Brother that is in the back is hit, they will not be able to do anything until their turn comes up, leaving them open to any and all attacks that come there way in between.  In battle you jump to attack, but some enemies can't be jumped on, which is why you have a hammer.  You also jump to dodge, but some attacks can't be dodged while jumping, which is why you have a hammer, which you can use to defend.  Defending with the hammer can take a little use to, because you have to hold the button for a short while before the hammer is ready (obviously because it's heavy ) and you have to release the buttons at the right time, hold them too long and the hammer will fall off the handle.  Same with attacking.  You must swing the hammer as soon as it starts to shake to get the most out of the, or else the hammer will fall apart and you will only do a small amount of damage.  You can make them both dodge at the same time, and can make them both attack at the same time if you use the combo attacks.

The combo attacks come in three difficulties.  1 is the easiest which pretty much holds your hand while you perform the attack, which it tells you when to press the "A" button for Mario and "B" for Luigi.  You control which difficulty level you use.  Increasing the level to 2 results in you getting less help during the combo and 3 gives you none. (I don't know if there is any levels above 3, I haven't seen any yet)  But supposedly at higher levels the results are better.  Also you will eventually learn new advanced moves while using your combo's (which use up your BP "Brother Points, which act as like MP Magic Points)

You gain EXP and sometimes coins and items at the end of battle.  Gain enough EXP (like in almost all RPG games) and you will level up.  Mario and Luigi level up differently (how I don't know yet) but you are given a chance each time you level up to give one stat a bonus.  You select the stat you want to give the bonus to and then a roulette wheel will spin and you press the button and you will (at least as far as I am) get anywhere between a 1 to 4 point bonus added to that one stat.  I don't know if the wheel is random, or if there is some strategy into getting a certain number.  I get 1's, 2's, 3's, and 4's.

The only problem I have had with the game, is not even an issue with the game.  You control Mario and Luigi at the same time.  You can make them both jump at the same time and all.  I have never played a game like this before, and if I don't pay attention I confuse myself, especially if I get Mario and Luigi not in correct order I can forget which button controls which Brother and can mess me up.  There are some parts of the game that require you to participate in games.  Like jumping the boarder rope, like thing.  Not real hard, but at least easy to get the hang of.  In battle I find that when dodging, it is easier for me to make both Mario and Luigi dodge at the same time to be easier than watching to see which Brother really needs to dodge, because I often forget which button to control because by habit I have grown up playing games that used one button and never two at the same time, not like this.

But the game is fun.  Controlling Mario and Luigi at the same time may sound overwhelming, but it's not, at least not after playing a little while.  After a while, it starts to feel natural.

General Chat / Okay, so what is your PHOBIA?
« on: October 21, 2003, 06:31:17 AM »
I'm carrying this over from what I mentioned in my journal:

Do you have phobia's and what are they?

For me it would have to be heights, as I mentioned in my journal.  I hate being up high somewhere, where there is even the slight chance I may fall.  And this is strange because when I was younger heights never bothered me, I would run around the Eiffel Tower at King's Dominion Amusement Park without a care in the world.  I hate getting up on the roof of our house.  I even hate walking up to the railing on the back deck, mainly I think that is because the deck is old and the railing probably wouldn't support much weight, even though our dogs out back like to get up on it, walk around on and even lay on it.  It would be just my luck that as soon as I leaned against it, it would give and I'd fall down into the back yard.

Spiders don't bother me, as long as they don't crawl on me, if they do I will jump and try and get them off then kill them.  They are fine as long as they are doing their job as insect control.

I don't know if it is a phobia, but I hate being in a room where half the lights are on and the other half are off.  On many occasions in school, my Creative Writing class when I was in the 12th grade I'd come into the class and half the lights were off.  Sometimes I would try and ignore it, but every time I had to get up and turn the lights on.  (This of course could just be part of my obsessive nature, which I am working on.)

Small places don't bother me, and being alone doesn't bother me.

I don't care what people think about me either, if that is even a phobia and it probably is considering that there is a phobia of the fear of peanut butter on the roof of you mouth.  I had a list once, but I don't know where it is right now.

I don't fly, that's another phobia of mine.  But the last time I was on a plane was around 20 years ago.  It has nothing to do with the September 11th terrorist attacks, it is just that I don't feel comfortable getting in something that could at any moment fall out of the sky.  I have never since that time when I was five or so that I had to get on a plane, or a helicopter.  I won't get in those either, I feel they are even more unstable than planes.  Probably because of the whole Twilight Zone movie where Vic Morrow was decapitated while shooting the movie, a special effects when wrong and the helicopter crashed into him and two small children killing all three.  It may also be to that fact because I have seen the actual footage of the helicopter going down on them.

So there you have it, so if you are willing please share.

Reader Reviews / Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg Review
« on: October 01, 2003, 12:43:14 PM »
I am glad to say that Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is a very addictive game.  I have I think about half of the game complete.  Some areas are complicated, but not because it's cheap.  The third stage, I think it's called Dino Mountain, at one part you have to roll your egg to a track and let it roll across and then as it's rolling, you have to climb up to a platform and then jump across 2 to 3 small platforms (depending on the mission the number changes) and down to the other side and catch your egg before it rolls of the edge.  Took me a while to get the timing of my jumps down.  (Sometimes the egg will stop before it rolls off the edge, I think non charged eggs have the best chance of stopping.)  Also while each mission in a stage uses the same stage, like Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine, but you start at different points for the mission and some parts are off limits too and the rings you use to propel your self, kind of like in Sonic Adventure, are rearranged for each mission so you can't go through each mission the exact same way.  There is also several times in the mission where you have to roll down ramps with your eggs.  Usually that kind of stuff annoys me because the control is never real tight, but here it's very good and I rarely fell off the ramps, some were half pipes and others just flat ramps either level or at an angle, but most always they are windy ramps which made rolling down them rather exciting.  Some reviews state that later in the game it gets hard to control the eggs because the areas you roll them get narrower, but I really haven't seen any of the that.  You also get to rescue your friends, who each have a mission in each stage.  The only downside I can think if right now is that several missions get recycled for each stage like: The traveling salesman (find so many blue or red coins within a set time limit), Race with *insert name of a animal helper, but a bigger version either King or Queen* and save the 8 chickens, and defeat 100 crows.  But since the layout of the level gets a change around each mission it doesn't seem boring.  You fight a boss on each second mission and sometimes you can just go right to the gate whereas some you have to unlock the gate first.  A nice variety of eggs also exist, like 72 or some different eggs.  There are 5 coins in each mission, but in the first stage, two missions had coins that were completely out of the way that if I didn't just decide to go that way just because it looked like I could, I wouldn't have know that's where they were.  There are 2 different animal helper types that I know about, one is where you hatch them and you control them with either the X or Y button, (The one right of the A button) and they will do their attack, a ice seal, a electric flying monkey, a flying weird fiery thing, a weird wind rabbit thing, a water penguin, and the second are ones that you hatch and then ride, like a shark, a bird that flutters for a little while and a weird one that jumps high.  There are other animals you hatch as well, but they are for one use only, like a gorilla, a hawk, a chameleon, two different sized butterfly's, (they heal either a lot of health, or a little) and a crow that steals your light and makes everything dark for a short while. (These animals you use the other button, farthest left one).  There are three types of bombs I have found so far, one that you thrown and it follows a enemy, one that you can roll and throw and it will explode, and one that I don't know much about, something about "everyone else sees it as just a normal egg"
The stages are different, like Super Mario 64, you have a forest, a pirate ship theme (from the demo if you have played it), a fiery dinosaur mountain, a ice mountain, and a circus park.  There is an area I don't know what it is yet because I haven't opened it yet.  The camera can get in the way, but it wasn't until the circus park area that it actually blocked the view completely and you have to manually move it ( a nuisance because at the same time an egg is rolling along a track and you need to jump several platforms and catch it before it falls, and also the egg in question is a golden egg and if it cracks even a little or falls you have to start over again from the eggs starting point.  It would have been nice if Sega made the walls in this area become invisible when it is between you and the camera, but I think it will be easier for this level if I move the camera before I put the egg on the track.  And speaking of tracks, there are two kinds I know about, the one I have already mentions where you let the egg roll along and you have to catch before it falls, and then the kind where you jump on with you egg and you both roll along, but don't worry you don't fall off.
The graphics are nice and clear, colors are bright and really convey the mood of the game, too me they more than get the job done.  I like the music, it's cheerful and I like listening to it.  There is no real voice acting, but kind of like the recent Legend of Zelda games where link makes noises to convey his actions.  But each time you finish a mission the character says "Good Morning" in a real cute way that goes with the whole chicken theme.  Each mission also has several little chicks roaming around that can give hints or nonsense really if you talk to them.  Sometimes talking to them can mean completing a mission quickly, or taking a long time.  Sometimes at the beginning of a mission your are given details of what you have to do, and sometimes you are not, so talking to the chicks is needed sometimes.  You are rated for each mission, on how many eggs you hatched, enemies you defeated and how many egg combo's you pulled off, and a mission bonus.  You are timed on each mission, but it's like the Sonic games where it keeps track of how long you took on each mission and not a set time limit unless for specific missions.  The controls are very tight in my opinion, and just running around rolling eggs is very fun too, but you have to finish a mission.  You can throw you egg with the B button.  You can jump with A and pressing A while in the air will result in a egg slam move like Mario's butt stomp, and it will propel you higher than you can jump, which will be needed to get past some obstacles that will break your egg, or to get up to high ledges.  Pressing the L trigger centers the camera behind Billy, and the R trigger will give you a boost to your speed that you can use and then jump with will cause you to roll with your egg, giving you enough speed to get up small inclines, which later in the game becomes necessary to finish missions, R also is used to hatch a fully charged egg, "cock-a-doodle-doo".  Each egg, except for the golden ones can take several hits from enemies before breaking (with will leave a eggy mess, hahaha), but some times an enemy can break it with one hit.  But fear not, eggs regenerate and there are probably a dozen or so different eggs per mission too.  Also it should be noted that unless Billy or his friends are armed with an animal helper, they are completely defenseless if they do not have an egg at hand.
Combat usually revolves around you rolling your egg into an enemy and killing them, some take more than one hit though.  Also, if you have defeated 100 enemies and you lose a life, you also lose the 100 enemies defeated when you do finish the mission, and also any combos you may have pulled off.  Kind of cheap, but in a way it makes you want to redo the stage for a better letter grade.  I have a lot of D's because I have been focusing on completing missions or finding all five coins in a mission.  I also die a lot because some coins are in places that mean instant death if you don't go at getting them right.  Like a coin floating above a pool of lava you have to jump across after getting a speed boost.  But once you get the hang of it all it shouldn't be difficult.

If I were to grade it, I'd give it a 9 out of  10 because it's just a fun game., and take the point off because some levels get repeated and because later levels the camera gets lazy.

Nintendo Gaming / Final Fantasy Tactics Adavnce
« on: September 20, 2003, 01:48:12 PM »
Okay, I’ve been playing this game for a while and I am currently trying to get monster souls for my morpher.  But I am having some difficulty.  What exactly are the requirements for catching monsters.  And please don’t be smart and say “be a hunter who has learned capture”  Because I know that.  I have so far been able to capture a lamia, firewyrm. antlion, red panther.  But I can’t for some reason capture a bomb, or a toughskin, or a jelly.  No matter even if I get them down to just 1 hp or so I still get 0% hit rate when I try to capture one even standing behind.  The highest % rate I have ever gotten I think was 21%, and rarely get a catch on the first try, usually 3rd time is the charm.  So anybody know of any requirements or strategies to capture monsters.  I haven’t tried the others because I haven’t run into them very often. I have only seen two tonberry’s so far.  I have over 100 missions complete, by the way.

General Chat / Being a Good Neighbor
« on: September 04, 2003, 05:57:44 AM »
For the people here who know me, know that I rarely start a topic unless I absolutely need to.  The reason for this one is very simple:  New users and their big ass avatars.  And sometimes users who have been here since these new boards opened.

I have seen lately more and more users with the what I see as a "Scarlet Letter" type punishment from the mods with avatars that let everyone know that they have violated the rules, either the image is too large, or they are using an image that is not on their own site, or have permission to use their bandwidth.  I have no problem with this, and agree with the action the moderators are taking.  Are they giving warning first or what?

I am wondering, should we go out of our way to help inform the user of their error, or just ignore it and let the mods catch it and take care of it in their "own way".  I mean, I have on more than one occasion gone out of my way to inform several people of their indiscretion, only to be ignored or attacked for what I consider being a "good neighbor"  I use dial-up to access the internet, broadband access is not available in my area other that through satellite cable (which I am hoping to obtain soon), so being forced to have to deal with both a slow acting board and people who are basically too lazy to read the rules, or if they do read the rules, refuse to adhere to them because they are generally being simple asses..

I haven't seen the movie, so I can't say whether the movie was good or not, but based on reviews I have read, the movie was suppose to be a lot better than the last Tomb Raider movie, and it was getting very good reviews from the magazines I have access to, so I'm wondering why it did so bad over the weekend.  According to Spong.com, the move brought in less than half what the first TR movie made when it opened in 2001, that is really shocking, I was expecting TR:CoL to be # 1, but alas, Spy Kids 3D was.  Could it be possible that the movie bombed was because of the latest game in the series being so bad that it's sort of a backlash against the series?  I find that easy to accept, but it's still vert strange.

General Chat / Basic Driving Rules!

Basic Rules for Driving in Suburban Maryland

Turn signals will give away your next move.  A real Marylander never uses them.

Under no circumstances should you leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you.  If you do, the space will be filled by someone else who will flip you off.

In PG County, crossing two or more lanes in a single lane change is considered "going with the flow."

The faster you drive through a red light, the less chance you have of getting hit.

Never come to a complete stop at a stop sign.  No one expects it and it will inevitable result in you being rear-ended.  If you want your insurance company to pay for a new bumper, come to a complete stop at all stop signs.

A right lane construction closure is just a game to see how many people can cut in line by passing you on the right as you sit in the left lane waiting for the same jerks to squeeze their way back in before hitting the orange and white barricades.

Braking is to be done as hard and as late as possible, to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a nice, relaxing foot massage as the brake petal pulsates.  For those without ABS, this is a time to stretch the legs.

Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right.  It's a good way to scare people entering the highway.

Speed limits are arbitrary figures, given only as suggestions, and are apparently not enforceable in the DC area during rush hour.

Just because you're in the left lane and have no room to speed up or move over doesn't mean that another driver flashing his high beams behind you shouldn't think that he can go faster from your position

Please remember that there is no such things as an alternate route during rush-hour traffic.

Always slow down and rubberneck when you see an accident, or even someone changing a tire.

Learn to swerve abruptly.  Maryland is the home of high-speed slalom driving thanks to DPT, which puts potholes in key locations to test drivers reflexes and keep them on their toes.

It is tradition here to honk your horn at cars that don't move the instant the light changes.

Never take a green light at face value.  Always look right and left before proceeding.

Remember that the goal of every driver is to get their first, by whatever means necessary.

Real Maryland female drivers can put on pantyhose and apply eye makeup at seventy-five miles per hour or in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Real Maryland male drivers can remove their girlfriend's pantyhose and bra at seventy-five miles per hour or in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Pick your nose while driving your car.  You are invisible there.

In the Maryland area, flipping someone the bird is considered a friendly salute.  The gesture should always be returned.

Never pay attention to a "Yield" sign.  It is the responsibility of those who are already in the lane to watch for you and anticipate you gunning into traffic.

If you are an immigrant to the Unites States, you are allowed to drive wherever and however you please.  We're just so darn happy to have you here, we'll be willing to stay out of your way.

If you come upon a car signaling for a left turn on a one-lane road: instead of driving around the stopped car, drive up really fast then break just inches from their bumper.  Honk.  Flip them off.  Make a big production of having to drive around them.  Flip them off one more time for good measure.

Nintendo Gaming / Forbidden Area: Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow?
« on: May 09, 2003, 04:37:04 PM »
I am 95.1 % complete and at the end, but how do i enter this area?   Forbidden Area

It's the area that is gonna be on the very bottom right part of the map under the Study and right of the Underground Reservoir, a water fall knocks me back when I try to get through at the right and coming off the study a wall blocks the path and on the other side of the screen is a switch but how do I press it.

Possible Spoiler:
Also, for those that don't know, to get the "Legion" soul, you must knock off the entire shell (4 pieces) then destroy the core, other wise you won't get it.

Nintendo Gaming / Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow in less than 2 weeks!
« on: April 24, 2003, 09:20:16 AM »
I just realized that the new Castlevania game comes out May 6, less than two weeks away, and like eight months after the last Castlevania game came out  Too bad still no Gamecube Castlevania

Oh, and hopefully the PS2 Castlevania plays as well as Devil May Cry does, being in 3D it has a shadow of doubt already on it.  At least it looks promising.

Nintendo Gaming / GCN Soul Calibur 2 outsells PS2 Version!!
« on: April 23, 2003, 08:00:21 AM »
  • http://the-magicbox.com/toptenDengeki.htm

The Dengeki Console Game Ranking Top 50 from April 7, 2003 to April 13, 2003 has the Gamecube version of Soul Calibur II at # 12, with 12,471 current and 69,467 total while the PS2 version is at # 19 with 9,826 current and 89,278 total.  I find it great that the Gamecube version is outselling the PS2 version.  I wonder if this is a sign of better things to come.  I guess having Link in the game really does make the difference.

The Xbox version is not on the list, nor is any other Xbox game.

Nintendo Gaming / Where is Castlevania: HoD?
    « on: March 04, 2003, 09:48:29 AM »
Does anyone find it strange that Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance is not listed at either EBGames.com and Gamestop.com?  Amazon has it listed for available in 1 to 2 days.  Circle of the Moon is still available, but why has Harmony of Dissonance become so scarce?  Castlevania: SotN is still listed and that came out what feels like 10 years ago or something.  I'm not looking to buy it since I got my copy when it came out, just an observation because I find it odd that it is no longer available, even as preowned.

    General Gaming / Wavebird Question
    « on: February 01, 2003, 03:45:07 PM »
While playing Skies of Arcadia Legends, I turned the Wavebird controller off because I had to do something and when I went back to the game I forgot to turn the controller back on and tried to move the character.  Off course nothing happened because it was turned off, but when I turned the controller on the character, Vyse, started to move in the opposite direction I had moved the controll stick and kept on going until I turned the controller off then back on again.

So my question is, is this normal?  I don't remember doing it before, so i don't now if it's something that happens in other games.

Does anybody remember a while back when there was talk about the Wonderswan remake of Final Fantasy 3 being brought over the the GBA?  I think that Square should go ahead and do it, because I want to play the damn game already.
