@Phil

SuperPhillip!  How's it going, man? The link to your site has not left the NinTemple homepage, my friend.

That's very sad about the HoR demo.  Hopefully it comes to the states soon.

TalkBack / Re: The Disturbing Lack of 3DS at E3 2012

This is such a painfully obvious ploy by Nintendo to phase out the 3DS and start developing for smartphones.

I mean, showing off Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion, NSMB2, Castlevania, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Kingdom Hearts and the slew of downloadable titles .... where are the games?!

And just because Fire Emblem and Professor Layton are apparently in the pipe, who's to say there will be anything else after that if they weren't showcased this week?

RIP 3DS. We hardly knew ye.

When is the demo coming to the US?

Oh crud. Is it not available here yet?  I just assumed based on what others said ....  now I've made an ass out of wii U and me.

Wow. Awesome write-up, Neal! Thanks for covering this game and doing so with such an open mind.  I was curious about it but hadn't really gotten a hold of any well-written impressions before this one.

I'm glad to see the series is headed in a good direction.  Do we know how many total games will be offered in Wii Fit U?

I'm still holding out hope that one day someone makes a game that is truly a fitness game.  In other words, it is as grand and deep as a traditional game, but you can get a full work out by playing it.  Something like Red Steel 2 kind of came close to this concept.

Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on WFU since I had a good time with Wii Fit and WF+.  I always lost a little weight but it's truly a fitness augmentation rather than a fitness system.... for me anyway.

I'm probably going to check out the demo in the next day or so.

I was/am really excited for this game and was sad to hear it might not live up to my hopes based on James' impressions.

It may sound like a no-brainer, but I've really been trying to decide between getting either Heroes of Ruin or Diablo III.  I played a little D3 and wasn't crazy about it. Guess I'll have to try the HoR demo and decide for myself!

Razor's Edge is a better subtitle than Ancient Ship of Doom.

You take that back right this instant!!  ;) ;D

Original Trilogy > modern Ninja Gaiden

@broodwars

Abbie Heppe finds this Tomb Raider sexist.  ;)

~~~
Does anyone know if there has been any, even small, backlash about this in the general gaming community?  In other words, is it even possible the final product might tone down the Lara sadism sim?
Side note: it might not be so bad if Lara wore protective garb of any kind.  It was just unsettling to see her get shot in the head and keep on trucking  :P:
2 cents:
1. I'm very excited about this game and it his nothing to do with coins =P
2. I find it intriguing that people are getting fatigued or whatever on the NSMB franchise.  At the moment there are TWO playable games in the franchise.  They came out 6 and 3 years (!) ago, respectively.  What's to get tired of?
In a few months, that number will double to four games.  I know the thought of instantly doubling a franchise might seem jarring, but... c'mon... four games?  This is still a pace of one per platform.
Ultimately, the day I stop enjoying these games is the day I will ask Nintendo to pump the breaks.  Until then, we should be so lucky to have a series this successful manage to limit itself to new installments every 3 years... and on different platforms.
I think the essence of this title looks amazing.  However, I think it is held back by its root in the Lords of Shadow mold -- and somehow that has even managed to spill over into its ridiculous name... they better change it!
The announcement of Alucard has me cautiously optimistic.  Let's see what they can do with that.
Good write-up, Halbred.
TalkBack / Re: Wii U Has 8 GB of Internal Storage
« on: June 07, 2012, 02:07:08 PM »
I don't want a download-only or DLC-dominated future, I don't want tons of mandatory installs and patches to get software working that should run out of the box, I don't want my console to be a PC-lite experience.  So not having a huge hard drive isn't really that bad in a lot of ways.
+100
If you want more space for other stuff you just plug in a harddrive.  It's better than capping file sizes or making you buy over-priced proprietary storage (*cough*vita*cough*).
This game would absolutely be on my list if they removed the battered woman simulator aspect.
I mean, seriously, it was getting comical how frequently and brutally Lara was getting hurt by SOMETHING in those trailers/demos.
"Gritty" indeed.... more like uncomfortable slapstick.
is the co-op online?
either way, pretty 'meh' on this game. I'm just not feeling nsmb level pack 3 very much.
how did you feel when mb level pack 3 came out?
Now, I'm pretty sure I know what the answer is, but just to be certain, the multiplayer is only local, right? =\
Have they explicitly said one way or the other?
Fire Emblem!
I actually hope it doesn't hit the states 'til all that pesky DLC can be put on the retail copy right away.
Especially given the confirmation about transferring game saves/downloads from Wii to Wii U.
Yea, I'm imagining it will be just like the 3DS is except with multiple user accounts able to be tied to a system.
I would bet the house that (relatively) no gamers or developers even try to use SmartGlass.  Usually people toss around the word "gimmick" to dismiss a concept, but I don't even think SmartGlass qualifies as a gimmick.  It's more like ... a thing that exists .....
