I've had the PS4 since launch and haven't actually used the browser yet. I think my experience of the Wii browser sullied my opinion of all console browsers.

Like all good local multiplayer games, therefore, Towerfall Ascension manages to be immediately comprehensible while also possessing a hidden depth. The razor sharp controls are intuitive enough that almost anyone could pick up and play Ascension, but spend a few hours with the game in the company of friends, let the competitiveness wash over you, and you can expect certain tactics and manoeuvres to gradually reveal themselves. Indeed, much of Ascension's success derives from it's ability to instil a competitive environment in which mind games become a natural extension of the game itself. The mechanics of jumping around and launching arrows is undoubtedly fun, but the real draw here is the opportunity to play with friends. Establishing short-term alliances to take out a common foe, backstabbing said ally, deliberately trying to aggravate the person sitting next to you by killing them for the third time in a row, these are the situations that Towerfall Ascension excels at creating.

So grab a few beers, call a few friends, and get ready to hear the 'F' word...a lot.

Strike 3.

I thought 'The Smash Brothers' was very well made, lol.

This week's episode is weird.

I'm still making my way through the podcast, but just thought I'd pop in with another 'I'm that guy'.

I Love running! Sticking on some 'Stiff Little Fingers' on my mp3 player and running along the river for an hour every couple of days is the best.

Between that and the 'multiple endings' question, me and Dr Metts are not seeing eye to eye this week.

 :P

I just want to point out that I'm 'That guy'. I've only ever played Chrono Trigger once, got to an end, and never felt compelled to go back. Same goes for Cave Story.

I've just never found multiple endings to be satisfying. I actually find that for me personally it detracts from most games, as I become anxious that I'm missing out by not playing through a given game in the optimal way. The result being that when I do reach an ending in a game I accept it as being my conclusion and move on to the next game.

The only exception I can think of was Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, which I did play through multiple times to see the various endings. It helped though that Shattered Memories was really short. I guess Chrono trigger can be pretty short too, but I'm also not that into RPGs.

Anyway, Just thought I'd confess.

Yes, I've truly never played Pac-Man.

Really? Not even the Google homepage version?

97/100 an epic battle between the rebels and their overlords, a daring space arena awaits as multiple planets are the stage for a vicious war over precious resources.

Ha!

I think I've found my new favourite game.

Dream Team Live Update

Boss Battles which involve motion controls, quick time events, and failure states which result in the same animations looping over and over again...not fun.

REPEAT! NOT FUN!

M&L: Dream Team - I seriously need to put a bullet in this game tonight. Will it ever f***ing end?!

It's certainly not a bad game, but MAN does it wear out it's welcome. I was ready to slap a bow on this thing 30 hours ago!

You would have thought the world's supply of red DVD cases was used up in the Great NSMB Wii release of '09.

Being in Europe I unfortunately missed out on Excitebots, but I've always been interested in it. If it ends up winning it would be a good excuse for me to finally pull the trigger.

Luftrausers, therefore, manages to feel like a modernised version of Atari Combat, striking a good balance between paying tribute to the arcade-style games of old, while also making good use of more modern trappings. The monochromatic art style certainly feeds into the impression that Luftrausers is a long lost gem, but it also works to the advantage of the game, as the simple colour scheme and high contrast allows enemies and projectiles to be distinguished easily, despite all the chaos.

The high degree of customisation and the addictive, 'one more round', sense of challenge will no doubt appeal to some, but for those who aren't driven to compete for high scores this is one flight you might want to miss.

7/10

(Give it a go. Review a game you only know through second-hand knowledge.)

General Gaming / Re: I hate console wars.

I find it difficult to get angry about something as trivial as which video game console is better than another. I also don't get agitated by people engaging in 'console war' flaming, because, again, it's silly and not worth getting angry over. I don't hate the 'console wars' because I simply choose to ignore it.

I'm in total agreement with what others have said about Brawl's online being completely broken. I don't think I've ever as disappointing an online experience as I did with Brawl. It was god-awful.

Depression is very a strong trait on my father's side of the family. I won't go into details, but my father and both his brothers each died as a result of depression and/or alcoholism.

It is, therefore, something I'm very conscious of.

I am also prone to depression and am exceedingly introverted (not to be confused with being shy). I am, thankfully, an emotionally intelligent person, self-aware, and confident. Being so very introverted can be troubling (both for myself and those who know me), I'll probably never feel truly at ease with other people for example, but it has it's strengths too. While others might crave the reassurance, comfort and attention of those around them, I'm very much capable of doing my own thing, of having independence, of focusing on inward reflection rather than broadcasting outwardly to the world.

I'm not saying that the support of others isn't helpful, but there's also a certain strength to be found in understanding your own nature and of reconciling that with the type of life you wish to lead.

146
Yup.

147
You definitely should. It's one of the gems on Wii Virtual Console that I had never played before. Along with games like DoReMi, Ufouria and Faxanadu, Pulseman holds a fond place in my heart as something I missed at the time but now adore.

148
The game will also be coming out in March* in North America.

*-March 2016

Just in time for Mario Kart 9 on the Playstation 4.

149
I've seen a few people online compare this to Mega Man, but it reminds me more of Pulseman.

Looks like it could be a fun action game though.

It doesn't beat my T-shirt with an image of the Blue Shell, around which it states 'I will find you...and I will kill you'.
