Got my 3DS, a Pull & Go Folio carrier and 5 (!) games today! I'm very happy with my purchases (though Ghost Recon will be mine!)

Nice! The more impressions, the better :)

So because I pre-ordered my system and Pilotwings on amazon I can pick up another launch title for $5...but honestly they all look terrible.

I'm not that into fighting games but SSF4 is obviously the biggest launch title and might be pretty fun.  Ridge Racer has also been getting good reviews and is said to really benefit from the 3D makeover, but I never end up playing racing games as much as I intend to.  Rayman 3D is also tempting because I played Rayman 2 on the N64 and loved it (and never beat it) but I also have a hard time supporting such a lazy launch title....then again, it's effectively only $5.

SOMEBODY MAKE THIS DECISION FOR ME.

Since you are interested in it, you should pick up Rayman 2. It's a good game despite some complaints and if you have any qualms about value, surely it's worth picking up for $5?

I think you're confusing buying Madden with being a dick to someone for liking a game that you don't.

Touché :)

Just a friendly reminder to all you guys and gals picking up a 3DS over the next couple of days, please remember to visit the 3DS thread over on the NWR community forum http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=33812.msg662321#msg662321 .
There, you can post your 3DS system code so we can get this community started off right!

Happy gaming all, I'm super psyched to finally pick up my system and games come tomorrow. The wait is finally over  ;D

(And we got 40 votes on my first poll which is cool  :cool; !)

Well I refuse to buy a system that has worse battery life than my phone that cost $50 more than my phone did. So if they want my money the 3DS either needs to drop $100 or get a redesign with better battery life.

I don't think a better battery can be had unless the systems itself is enlarged to accommodate a larger battery or battery tech sees another jump in form factor and capacity.

Also your phone unsubsidized is probably $100 more than the price of a 3DS, not to mention being locked into a contract and paying more than $50 a month.  I apologize, but I hate comparisons of the 3DS to the price of a cell phone because phones without contracts are the epitome of over priced hardware and battery life can be just as long or short on the device depending on what settings you use it on, just like the 3DS.

I really think people are making a mistake to wait for a "3DS Lite". The only reason the "Lite" came out was because the original DS was rushed. They had a design that wasn't what they really wanted. Pretty much thrown together I believe. The design for the 3DS is pretty much what Nintendo wanted as it's pretty much the design of the DS Lite. It has the upgraded OS and store that was tried out first on the DSi. If anything we might see a bigger version of the system but that might not be for years. When people make the 3DS Lite comments they keep forgetting or don't realize why the original DS changed into the DS Lite.

I agree.  I can understand the thought of Nintendo handheld fans being conditioned to expect a revision of the present hardware.  But outside of making a larger 3DS, there really isn't anything they can do to redesign the current system.  Read all the Iwata Asks on the 3DS' design, they really engineered this thing to the hilt. Every decision about the look and feel of the hardware (from the protruding lip and 3 tier color scheme, to the hinge and even stylus placement) was done with extreme specificity.  This thing is about as balanced between useabilty and efficiency as it can get.

This does not invalidate anyone's opinion if they don't like the look of the system. But anyone thinking that it's going to have some kind of cocoon to butterfly-like transformation in a "future redesign" is going to be waiting a long time and will be sorely disappointed. I personally really like the look and feel of the system and can't understand some people's strong dislike of the design, particularly in a post DS Phat world.

Ha ha :)! I first read that as Nintendo having a dedicated branch in Greece and was like "huh?"

Good to see some evidence of 3DSware popping up now in lieu of official announcements.

Nintendo Gaming / The Official 3DS System Friend Code Thread
« on: March 23, 2011, 12:03:40 PM »
Welcome NWR Community to our 3DS Friend Code Thread! I ask that everyone who owns a 3DS and is looking for a group of great people to play games with over the internet to post your system friend code here. As time goes by, I will continually update this original post for ease and convenience. Normally friend codes and the like are put in your forum profile, but currently there is not an option for 3DS.

When posting your code, please post the name of the Mii you are attaching to your system profile. When I update the thread, I will be sure to post everyone's forum name next to their Mii and Friend Code so that you know who's who.

The 3DS Friends List is limited to 100 registered friends and is a mutual add system. This means that the only way you can populate your friends list across the internet is by having both parties enter each other's friend code after which you will immediately be able to see the other person.  With that in mind, it will be assumed that everyone who posts their code will also be entering all the others that are also listed into their system.

Let the first real attempt at a Nintendo online community begin!

I'm not sleeping on this title. I'm definitely picking it up probably in a month once I get through my initial cadre of launch titles.

I think the only game that has internet multiplayer is Super Street Fighter IV.  Most of the launch games feature some kind of local wireless multiplayer (excluding some single player-only games like Pilotwings and Rayman 3D).

I would imagine (and hope) that any game featuring wireless multiplayer being released post launch window will also include an internet option.

562
Ha ha! Just came here to post the TRU deal and was beaten :) It has made my decision to pick up a few more games at launch easier as now I don't have to choose!

Picking up:
Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition
Pilotwings Resort
Steel Diver
Ridge Racer 3D
Rayman 3D

I'll pick up Super Monkey Ball and Ghost Recon probably a month down the line once I get through these first crop of games. Ghost Recon is a definite buy though not right now as I just recently completed Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and have taken care of my srpg itch for now. I'll be interested in the impressions of Super Monkey Ball as people get it to see how well it compared to the first.

I'm so pumped! I've never been compelled in the past to pick up so many games at launch for this little (I'm getting ostensibly 2 games for free with the TRU deal and my gift certificate).

563
This video walk through of a mission in Ghost Recon for 3DS was just released http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/03/21/tom-clancys-ghost-recon-shadow-wars-gameplay-walkthrough.

I that got me real psyched for that game!

NEW GAME GET!!!

565
I don't know about Asphalt, but if you want to play a great arcady racer with awesome music and drifting out the wazoo, Ridge Racer is the best.

566
Street Fighter is a lock as I've not owned and played one to death since the SNES days.  Pilotwings is a lock as I enjoyed both WiiSports Resort flying (though I'v never had the time to fully explore WuHu island) and the demo of it at PAX. Both games can be played in short bursts and compliment each other well with Street Fighter being fast and furious and Pilotwings being calm and laid back.  The third game I'm picking up is Steel Diver. It's unique, my unknown and from Nintendo and outside of complaints about it's length (which doesn't bother me in the slightest) looks to be fun.

But now I have a gift certificate to Best Buy to buy ANOTHER 3DS game and I'm having the devil's own time trying to figure which game to pick up!

My choices:

Ridge Racer 3DS: The last Ridge Racer I played seriously was Type 4 for PSone.  It has been reviewed well and from numerous impressions seems like a lot of fun with a lengthy career mode.  Graphically it looks fine to me and has been said that it looks way better in motion.  I haven't owned a fun racer since Mario Kart Wii so this is a game I am very interested in.

Rayman 3DS: I absolutely loved the 2nd game, but never got very far in it due to time restraints when it came out on the N64.  Now I get to play a much better version of it in 3D, portably! It's a meaty adventure platformer that I want to own and beat after all these years.

Super Monkey Ball 3DS:Finally! A monkey ball game with a proper frame rate and analog controls! I've never had the time to really dig through the challenges of the later levels in the first game.  The proposition of being able to whip out a competent version on the go is just awesome (both previous portable versions just didn't cut it).

Ghost Recon Shadow Wars: Tactical warfare set in modern times? Rainbow Six-like planning? Turn-Based combat in 30+ missions? From the creator of X-Com? Ranch Dressing? This game has my name written all over it! Plus I'm getting it for free, so what's to lose?

Help community!!! I don't know which to pick :-\ .

Just got a call from my local Gamestop shil reminding me that I can pick up my 3DS this Sunday at 9am (no midnight launch for my store which stinks because I actually get out of work at 11pm).  This week will fly, but the wait is getting crazy!

Gah! Favorable reviews and impressions are popping up for a bunch of 3DS games that haven't been covered much if at all that I'm interested in.  Seriously, I've never had such a hard time deciding what to buy at the launch of new system :Q .

Awesome recount of your playtime online! This makes me even more jazzed up about playing this online.  I haven't played a fighting game seriously against another human opponent since Street Fighter 2 came out on SNES.
