TalkBack / Re: Bayonetta 2 Out Later This Year
« on: February 14, 2014, 01:27:24 PM »
Can one of you Bayonetta afficionados elaborate on what makes the original great, and if the T&A aspect is overblown in these trailers?

If the gameplay is as engaging as Metal Gear Rising, then I'm interested, but the appearance that they're pushing the T&A part of the game is kind of offputting to me.
Bayo was considered to be the pinnacle of character action game genre.

Why? Because it's best.

In which aspects was it best?

In all of them.

I didn't play MGR myself but it's considered to be a lesser game compared to Kamiya's games, too short and undercooked.

The good parts of Bayo are exhilarating sense of power, full control of the battlefield, extremely satisfying gameplay, beyond mindblowing setpieces, action that makes P. Jackson and Spielberg jealous, great orchestral blood pounding music, content stretched over 100 hours of gameplay, introducing new mechanics that keep enriching basic gameplay and turning it on it's head every dozen hours and so and on.

As to visual style... As someone once said "i'm done explaining myself". You need to take it in full or pass through knowingly robbing yourself of experiencing videogame masterpiece. Can't handle the difficultuy/sexiness/visuals? I am very, very sorry for you.

See one of my previous essays where i write about Bayo 1 and compare it to an even more grandiose game.

Azeke, appreciate the reply.  From a gameplay standpoint, it seems right up my alley.

From an astetics standpoint, please don't misundertsand me - I don't care what others things in terms of the media I consume, it just reminds me of DOA Beach Volleyball levels of gratuitus sexuality, which is a bit over-the-top/obscene for my general tastes.

That said, I think it sounds like I owe myself to at least check-out a few more gameplay videos of Bayonetta 1 and possibly a purchase before I dismiss it for the visual aspect.

Incidentally, neither do I!

Whenever someone complains about being smited, I instinctively smite them for caring about an insignificant, often abused, and mostly irrelevant rating system.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Are indie games the "New" 3rd party?
« on: February 13, 2014, 03:14:29 PM »
I've been burned too many times by indie games that are lauded as fantastic experiences, only to find myself bored/unimpressed when playing them.  I'm happy to have the options, but it just isn't my cup of tea.

With the exception of Octodad: Dadliest Catch.  I'm jumping right into that the second it releases on PS4.

Honestly....I don't see why people build themselves up so much for these Nintendo directs.  I'm looking forward to watching, but I don't have great expectations for a monumental reveal.

TalkBack / Re: Watch Dogs Delayed for Wii U
« on: February 10, 2014, 08:23:29 PM »
This story doesn't personally affect me, as I'm patiently watching Watch_Dogs from the sidelines until some reviews come out.  That said, Ubisoft's support of the Wii U hasn't necessarily paid off for their Wii U games like it did for the Wii, so it doesn't surprise me that they're refocusing efforts for the other platforms they're supporting.

I think this is more a sign of them having some serious issues with Watch_Dogs as a game in general, not specifically them shunning the Wii U users.

Oblivion's family and friends are going to be concerned when they see repeated google searches for circumcised & uncircumcised penises in his web browsing history.

I'm assuming this is some sort of joke, considering we're in the funhouse.

If for any reason this is serious, just schedule an appointment with your doctor and ask him or her to check it out.  the benefits or drawback of either are miniscule, I assume, as long as you keep yourself clean in that area.

That's funny, because I'm looking at it right now and it definitely lets me see only what is free.

I use Netflix and Hulu too, but that doesn't mean you need to spread misinformation like that when you admitted yourself you haven't spent much time with it.

Gotta be honest, I encountered the same problem as BlackNMild.  On the PS3 app, it was a hot mess the last time I tried (roughly 5 months ago), being completely unclear what was free as part of the subscription, and what required you to pay for episodes.  Maybe they've improved it since then, but navigating & using prime was agonizing compared to Netflix back then.

I played Outlast on PS4 for a good 10 minutes before I realized I can't play the game for the same reason I can't bring myself to watch horror movies anymore: I don't like being startled/scared.

General Gaming / Re: Biggest Gaming Regrets
« on: February 06, 2014, 12:40:29 PM »
About 4 years back now, my wife and I we're just recently married, and she lost her job due to the economy.  There was about a year-long gap between that job and her next one, and at the time, I didn't have a good enough job to cover our standard of living.  Because I was young & foolish, I didn't adjust our expenses accordingly, and instead sold-off things & racked-up debt to pay for activities.

Regretfully, I sold my Sega Genesis with 30+ games that I had since I was 8, a used Super Nintendo I bought in really nice condition with 10 games during high school, and a Gamecube I bought right before college, and played endless hours of Megaman & Smash Bros on.

I technically have the money on-hand to repurchase these things, but I don't have any guarantee that they'll be in as good a condition as the ones I had.  That, and at this stage in my life (demanding career, wife, a 2 year old, and another one on the way), I just don't think I would have the time to play it all if I recouped them.  Maybe someday 4-5 years down the road when both my children are old enough to play & appreciate such things.

As a native Illinoisian, let's be honest, there's no "safe" place to be in Chicago.  Just slightly less dangerous places.

The bulk of my work week takes place over the weekend. But I may find time in the evenings after work. Really depends. I'll post if I have time.

ok, i'll take a peek later to see.  Fair warning, I haven't gotten very far in the game (comparably to others here).

General Gaming / Re: What is your most recent gaming purchase?
« on: February 01, 2014, 09:43:06 AM »
I had a buy 2 get 1 free coupon for Gamestop. So I picked up:

The Last of Us
Xenoblade Chronicles
Metroid Prime: Trilogy

It's incredible how expensive Xendoblade & Metroid Prime Trilogy are being sold at, so this was my best chance at getting a decent price for them.

Lucario was fun to play as occasionally, so I'm not disappointed by this news.

Forget Nintendo buying game publishers.  They need to purchase a company that can help expedite their getting to the present with online functionality.

If they can't find a good acquisition that meets that need, then they need to revisit a strategic partnership with a company that has established experience with providing a user-friendly, intuitive, online enabled front-end experience.

Not sure if anyone around here has still been holding out on it, but The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was marked-down to $20 at my local Target.

This may also just be because they were sitting on two dozen unsold copies of it.  Guess that's what happens when you sell a 2 1/2 year old game for $50.

Bah, sorry.  My department had a big 2-day supplier meeting today & yesterday, and I didn't even get home last night til late.

Anyone planning on playing this weekend?  I might be able to squeeze in a little time.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Turns to Smart Devices
« on: January 30, 2014, 08:27:41 PM »
Counting out them making games for smart phones, there are essentially 4 different app types they can make:

Miiverse
e-shop
Complementary apps for Nintendo games (Pokedex, etc)
apps that only act as a glorified advertisement for Nintendo consoles/games.

Additionally, I call bullshit on the continual claim that they "cannot show our strength as an integrated hardware-software business in this field,".  Just be honest and say that it isn't in your business strategy to release Nintendo games on non-Nintendo hard ware and be done with it.

I'm still n00b status, but would be inclined to pick it back up if there was opportunity to experience group play.
