SPOILERS!

"This MIGHT be adressed in the 3rd ending,"

It's not. The 3rd "ending" really isn't an ending at all- it's more of a nice little reward for beating all 3 quests that explains how they all tie in. It's really interesting, but it has nothing to do with Zlex hallucinating everything, although that is a very intruiging theory.

Do you have a link? This is pretty big stuff and would've reached a major site by now (as does EVERY Miyamoto interview).

Nintendo Gaming / OLED Displays finally a reality
« on: March 06, 2003, 04:49:46 PM »
rod: Yeah, I read in Popular Science a while back about paper signs that could change their ink (or, I guess, "ink") displays. It was freaking some people out at a mall they tested it at.

Blah blah blah, happymaskman- it's the same rap you get from people who have so deluded themselves that Nintendo made the absolute right decision that they downplay the SW2K demo. Keep in mind that demo was made in less than a week- think of what Nintendo could've done with that if they had fully worked it. I'm not saying that cel-shading is better- I'm just saynig if you ask almost ANYONE, they'll say they would've much preferred the realistic style.

And what's this about realism not being "Zelda"? Miyamoto *himself* has said almost word for word that there is no bone fide "Zelda style"- they rework the series for whatever they think will do good. You could say that ANY style change "isn't Zelda". Side-scrolling was different than a top-down view, so it's not Zelda! A colorful, exaggerated world is different from sidescrolling, it's not Zelda! Back to a top-down view is different from colorful, it's not Zelda! 3D is completely different with half-way realistic looking model,s so it must not be Zelda! A stylized, Japanese artistic style is different from full 3D, it must not be Zelda! Basically, ANYTHING is Zelda if Nintendo works it right, and believe me, if they go ultra-realistc with the next Zelda, Nintendo will make damn sure that it IS Zelda.

Nintendo Gaming / Pre-E3 list, (not confirming list)
« on: March 06, 2003, 04:20:47 PM »
"NEW Camelot, United Artists Games"

Why would Sega be publishing Camelot's games? Camelot's a 3rd-party and have always had their latest games published by Nintendo (Golden Sun 1 & 2, Mario Tennis/Golf, etc). Camelot should have it's own heading, or at the very least be listed under Nintendo's heading (since they ARE making Mario Tennis and Golf). I don't know what compelled the people who compiled the list to organize it that way.

::EDIT:: Yeah, that whole list just seems really wierd- I don't know where they got their info.

manunited: CLASSICAL classical. My favorite composer is Tchaikovsky- while I don't expect anyone to know the name, he's the guy that wrote the Sleeping Beauty ballet, the Blue Danube, and of course The Nutcracker. I also like Mozart and Beethoven, but those are kind of given. I also like current classical- Howard Shore's work on Lord of the Rings was incredible.

I also like the other kind of classical- Queen's one of my favorite bands and Another Brick in the Wall is a just plain great song.

Masterpiece: I've heard Pain concerts are incredible. For a while Dan, the lead singer, shaved his head and at concerts he'd set it on fire and let people roast marshmellows in it.

They like Metroid more than THAT. But this sales chart is obviously for MP's first week in Japan- how long does the chart have MP on for?

Seriosuly, providing a link would certainly help your case- anyone can come in here and make some wild claim. While I'm not saying you're WRONG, I won't believe it until I hear or see it officially.

I'm really indifferent to the whole music scene- before I started listening to Pain, I pretty much only liked the Beatles and classical music. I still love both, but Pain kinda sucked me in like no other music has. A friend of mine once said you never really get into music until you find the style that you love. And that was Pain. Through Pain, I've really branched out into a lot of stuff. Besides rap, pop, and country, there's no real style of music I don't like, just as long as it's done well. I mean, Pain's pretty much ska, I've been to an Incubus concert before (love the band) with Hobbastank, and that's like alternative. I love punk as well (it's almost a given when you like ska), my sister's a huge emo fan and I like most of her music, and now I'm listening to At the Drive In through masterpiece here. I guess I'm lucky I'm so broad in my tastes

Dennis: The only real complaint I had with Eternal Darkness, and this isn't meant to be a statement against you or your team, who've obviously proven can make an amazing game, but once you got the refill meter spells, the game got pretty easy. I don't think I ever saw an insanity effect after I was able to both protect my insanity and refill it. I also don't think I died after I could refill or protect my health. It just got too easy. I think I heard somewhere that you would've liked a difficulty setting on the game- maybe we can have a hard setting? It really didn't affect the game in a major way at all, though.

Also, I'm, listening to your interview with PGC where you're talking about how there's so much of the story you didn't put into the game because of size constraints (one of those topics being the yellow magic), and I have to say you really need to get the story out in some form or another for those fanatics like me that NEED to know the whole story. O_O I felt the same way with the Cthulhu mythos by Lovecraft- one story, I can't remember which one, just ended because Lovecraft died before he could finish it and I have to tell you, I almost went crazy! I'm so wrapped up in all of Tolkien's work that I own nearly 15 books compiled by his son on the history of Middle-Earth and Arda. Just don't let such an incredible story stop at Eternal Darkness.

Denis, do you browse by here often, or is this the first time in a while? I was surprised to see you respond since it's been so long you've actually posted on the board. Just want to tell you Eternal Darkness is easily one of my favorite games ever- too bad not a whole lot of people got to experience it.

nolimit: Hehe- my sister would love you. My sister's a big Dashboard fan (like I said, we saw them at a Weezer concert), she really likes Something Corporate (as do I- I Woke Up In A Car is one of my favorite songs) and The Used, who I personally haven't heard, and her favorite band ever is Juliana Theory. She's going to a concert of their's and I believe The Ataris (another great band), which is cool because they both have new CD's out. I think Further Seems Forever might also be there.

« on: March 04, 2003, 02:24:17 PM »
Anyone watching the new Let's Make a Deal? I swear, Let's Make a Deal is probably my favorite game show ever, probably because even if you THOUGHT you were doing pretty good, you could screw yourself the next minute. A win a car or trip or something! The new one looks to be just as good- it's a lot flashier than the original, but it's almost the exact same show, complete with all the really inventive deals.

I just  got DDRMAX for my brithday, whcih was yesterday. Since my pads won't be here until later this week, I've just been screwing around playing with the d-pad and face buttons. I was a bit surprised to see a workout mode, though. Interesting that even Konami has recognized that a good session of DDR can be a great workout.

Marcus: Nintendo didn't GIVE the F-Zero license to Sega to work on, they LOANED it, just like they did with Donkey Kong and Rare or Zelda and Capcom. Nintendo still owns every inch of all three of those franchises- they just allowed someone else to make the actual game for them.

Nintendo Gaming / Disturbing comments-again

"The Mario and Zelda audience has historically been a younger audience"

I think what he means by "younger audience" is the "really friggin' big seller audience" since Mario and Zelda games always seem to sell millions more copies than almost any other series. The guy just wants the Hobbit to sell well.

"yes the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings were originally written for children back in the mid 20th century,"

The Hobbit, to a degree, yes, but Lord of the Rings was most definetly *not* written for children. The Hobbit was supposed to be a nice little fairy tail for kids to read (maybe not real young kids, but Tolkien wasn't aiming at specifically adults), but in a letter written to someone asking to him to write a story about the Necromancer, Tolkien replied such a story would be much too dark for children. Well, LotR IS abotu that Necromancer, Sauron. It also contains a LOT of things that little kids would not understand- I first read the book in 4th grade and didn't understand an ounce of it. I do know, 5 years later, but LotR was not written for just kids. Besides, towards the end the book starts getting written in a very old English way- a little kid could spend hours wading through words upon words without knowing what most of them meant. LotR is a lot darker than the Hobbit (which has a sense of darkness all it's own).

"What a biased fool you are. How do you know that HAlo 2 wont be better than Zelda? Have you played them both? You call the judges biased and yet you have made up YOUR mind without playing either game. Too funny."

I agree with you completely that we shouldn't assume that the judges are biased. BUT, games like Halo 2 are kind of assumed to be good, and they get a lot of press. I'm not saying MS pays off the judges, but they might be blinded by the hype. When Halo 2 coems out, even if the game IS pretty bad, I *severely* doubt you'll hear anyone say as much. They're so jaded by the hype that they just assumed it's good. One interesting aspect I've grown as a Nintendo fan is the ability to spot out the occasional wrong thing- even thoguh I lvoed SMS, I thought it could have been MUCH better if Nintendo had tried a little harder. I doubt a lot of MS fans will spot any faults in Halo 2 just because they've already come to the conclusion that it WILL be good.

Shut Your Mouth isn't by the Pain I'm talking about. They're another band called Pain with a much different style of music that I don't really like. If you want to find my Pain songs, search by album (Goggins, Midgets With Guns, Wonderful Beef, and Full Speed Ahead). It's very easy to tell when you have the right Pain because Dan, the lead singer, has a very distinctive voice and the style is very similar throughout all their songs (all of them are slightly odd ).

I've got Chanbara and I think Rascauche, but I haven't listened to them yet. I definetly will, though.

FF10 definetly. Budokai, I've heard, is an average game at best, even if you're a huge DBZ fan. FFX is ozzoing with quality- one of my favorite RPG's.

I'd also suggest Ico- if you like Zelda's kind of puzzles, you'll love Ico, seriously. Incredibly ambient and atmospheric game and incredibly fun. Real short, though (took my a little more than 8 hours), so it's probably more of a rental than a buy.

Yeah, that whole merger with Sammy kind of makes this rumor just sound like wrong. Besides, EA HATES Sega- they Speak out about Sega whenever possible. I thought the original Sega-being-bought-out rumor was just a warped version of what really happened- Sega merging with a company we've all never heard of.

Nintendo Gaming / Any news on the Legend of Zelda movie?
« on: February 28, 2003, 02:26:07 AM »
"I don't see what is wrong with the pokemon anime. It is not made for older people, it is made 4KIDS. It is just supposed to be somehting fun."

I LOVE kids cartoons- you have to realize this. I love any cartoon that's quality enough to be enjoyed. You ever heard of this cartoon on Nick Jr. called Kipper? Great show about this little British dog- I love it, yet it's made for preschoolers or kindergarteners. Pokemon s just poorly made- I'm a modest fan of anime, too, so thjat's not the reason I don't like it. It could just be so much better.

And 4Kids only knows how to make one kind of cartoon, and that's the "dumb" kind- I had hopes for Kirby's cartoon and it was pretty darn bad. I have no faith in a Zelda movie if 4Kids is making it.

Good thing this is all a rumor, though.
