Nintendo Gaming / shadow link
« on: March 16, 2003, 09:54:00 AM »
If you ask me, Morpha's a LOT harder than Dark Link if you don't have the Biggoron sword. I personally always get it ebfore the Water Temple and use Link's overhead slash (target the enemy and press A), which makes short work of him, but my first time throguh with the Master Sword he was probably the boss I had the most trouble with.

General Gaming / EA not supporting Live
« on: March 15, 2003, 08:27:20 PM »
TheOmen is right- it doesn't matter if we think EA's games suck. The fact is they sell VERY well, and that can help any system, especially when it comes to online. XBox Live not having ANY EA sports games online is a huge blow to Microsoft- all XBox gamers have now is NFL2KX (which doesn't sell well) and NFL Fever (which sucks, at least compared to NFL2KX and Madden).

Japanese culture is mesmorizing. O_O My dad was in the military and I lived in Okinawa (technically not Japanese- they get pissed off if you call them anything other than Ryukens or Okinawans) for 3 years and loved it. Everything is so deeply rooted in history and traditions streching back hundreds and hundreds of years. I'd give anything just to live there again (I'm in Kansas now- ANYTHING has to be better). That's actually one reason Shenmue is one of my favorite games of all time- it's such an accurate depiction of Japanese culture and lifestyles.

Really? I've never had any trouble with Shadow Link- I just lock onto him, equip my Biggorn sword, and stab him. There's absolutely no way he can block him. Morpha's also pretty easy with the Biggoron sword, since it's so powerful.

General Gaming / EA not supporting Live
« on: March 15, 2003, 12:42:25 PM »
Eidos published Timesplitters 2 but it was Free Radical that developed it.

And yeah, this has been known ever since MS divulged all the details about XBox Live- I don't remember EA not supporting it because of it being "unfair" (I heard it was because EA didn't like the closed network), but I really thought it was common knowledge that EA wasn't releasing online games for the XBox.

Nintendo Gaming / Mr Gannondorf, the bell toll's for thee..
« on: March 15, 2003, 11:07:18 AM »
Well, then you answered your own question, Gibdo- people spell it with 2 N's because it was spelled as such in LoZ and I guess it was just burned into their brains.

I'm just glad they're maknig another SoA- I don't really care whether it's on the PS2 or Gamecube since I have both.

Does anyone know how SoA sold for the Cube? Well, I hope.

Nintendo Gaming / WW going to the top of the rankings
« on: March 15, 2003, 10:59:54 AM »
True, true, or they should at least label the ranking as for Kaze no Takuto instead of Wind Waker- that is, the Japanese version rather than the American version. Still, though, if people can't read the game and gave it good enough reviews to have it ranked number 2 overall, I think the American version will do even better.

« on: March 15, 2003, 10:37:31 AM »
Some people spell it Gannondorf (or Gannon) with 2 n's because in the original Legend of Zelda there was a translation problem that showed the spelling of Ganon having 2 n's. This was corrected in later Zelda games, but I guess the people who really got into LoZ just have a natural habit of spelling the names with 2 n's instead of one.

TalkBack / Want a new GameCube for under $70?

How exactly does FAO Schawrz go out of business- that's what really surprised me about the article. I thought they were a really popular toy store. I mean, the movie Big had it's greatest scene there!

Cheap games because of closings are great, though, especially since a bunch of K-Marts are closing. One near me closed up recently and there was at least 25% off all games. Unfortunatly, by the time I checked it out all the good stuff was gone.

General Chat / Pain
« on: March 14, 2003, 01:18:37 PM »
Yeah, but with everyone who doesn't listen to them, they won't stay around. I've personally introduced Pain to all my friends, although all of them thought they were strange except for one, who loved them ( gave him 2 CD's with most of their songs). Popularity doesn't necessarily mean the band will be bad, or anything like that.

Anyway, they only had one copy of one album- it had 7 songs and it was $10, so I decided to pass.

I was at a site called SongMeanings a second ago- I don't know if you've ever been there, masterpiece, but it's basically a site that catelogs lyrics to thousands of songs and allows people to post in a kind of message board format under the song about what they think it means. Anyway, I was looking at some for At The Drive-In, and I never really realised it, but their lyrics are *really* deep. Where as Pain's are light hearted and humerous, there's some real emotion in At The Drive-In's songs. For one thing, I didn't know Napolean Solo was about a couple friends of the band who died in a car crash on the way to the show, or Transatlantic Foe was about the cold war (although I could gleen hints of Russia from the title alone). It really gives you respect for bands that go through the trouble of comnig up with such incredibly smart lyrics. I really have to thank you for turning me on to a great band, masterpiece. I'll be at Best Buy tomorrow- I'll probably pick up one or two of their CD's (I've got like $500- looking for a TV).

Nintendo Gaming / Too Human Hype Thread!!!!!!!
« on: March 13, 2003, 01:29:33 PM »
First off, that "one hour" thing has to be a mistake- no one says "*over* one hour of gameplay"- I'm guessing they meant more.

Anyway, I don't mean to sound disrespectful, because I've been a big fan of N-Sider for a long time, but it sounds like they pulled most of their info out of their ass. There's VERY little information on this game and yet they mention gameplay details like it's common knowledge. Unless they ahvea  "source" in Silicon Knights, I'm guessing they mode most of that stuff up. Again, I don't want to sound disrespectful, but a lot of what they said sounded like pure crap.

olimario- Not for like a year, since they locked the boards last February. But Conker and a couple other guys convince someone to pay for Insider for me for a year. I haven't been on the boards much since I pretty much hate most of the people there, but I use the account to it's fullest extent on articles and reviews and stuff.

Nintendo Gaming / Pre-orders Closing in on OOT
« on: March 13, 2003, 10:33:13 AM »
Even if PGC wasn't a major site (their server size problems alone should discount that), they don't BS people- they check their sources and make sure it's true, which it IS.

Nintendo Gaming / Official F-Zero Thread

Good news- neither F-Zero or Wario World have been delayed and both will come out on their expected dates. Just thoguht I'd start off the discussion from the "redundant" thread.

TalkBack / Wind Waker Most Pre-Ordered Game in History
« on: March 12, 2003, 10:24:49 AM »
I'm starting to worry along the same lines as Michael- this preorder campaign may have made preordering the game SO desirable, just about everybody planning on buying the game have already done so. 500,000+ is definetly a lot for preorders, but in terms of overall sales, it's pretty poor, especially for Zelda, which generally sells 1 million+ in both Nintendo and Japan. What if actual sales of the game are pretty bad, seeing as just about everybody's preordered it? I'm not saying the game will sell like crap, just that I'm worried the bulk of WW's sales have already been preordered.

loserfish- I'd rather have Nintendo spendinng big $$$ to get a good relationship with America's biggest publisher, where they really need the help, than to have so called pride and go under.

Nintendo Gaming / Is this a glimpse of the future? Blu-Ray Disc ...
« on: March 11, 2003, 10:32:52 AM »
Sure games will continue to grow, but you DO realize games are multiple gigabytes now because of FMV, which will be obsolete in only a couple generations? Are you catching on to that? You can't base a theory that we'll have 20 gig+ games based on that info. The ONLY reason we have multiple or dual-layered DVD, or even CD, games is because of FMV, which takes up an incredible amount of space. I'd challenge you to find one multiple DVD game in the next 5 years that doesn't use FMV. Yes, game size will go up, but there IS an upper limit. Programmers still have to program these things and developers don't want to be making games more a decade because that's how lnog the game actually takes to make. Game size will peak out, it will NOT continue to go up forever and ever. It takes way too long. Besides, all that FMV will be gone, and games will be much, much smaller in a few generations. You can't just assume something will always go one way just because it went so in the past- if anything you shoudlv'e learned that as a Nintendo fan.

Nintendo Gaming / top 10 gamecube games
« on: March 11, 2003, 02:33:40 AM »
"Onto the unconfirmed, but worth mention:

7: Too Human
8. Pikmin 2
9. Namco's RPG
10. Monolith's RPG"

What do you mean "unconfirmed"? We know Too Human's in development- this has been official for a very long time. We know Pikmin 2's coming- we've seen screenshots. And Monolith's RPG already has a name- Baiten Katos. The other Namco RPG (which COULD be Baiten Katos, too) is the only one not really confirmed.

Definetly a poll, but I'm not the guy who locks topics and bans people.

1. Wind Waker
2. Too Human
3. Mario 128
4. Dead Phoenix
5. Viewtiful Joe
6. Mario Kart
7. F-Zero
8. Giftpia
9. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
10. Starfox Armada

I would've put on the list Super Smash Bros. 3 and Mother 3/Earthbound 2, but neither of those have been *officially* confirmed, although I'm confident both are coming.

Nintendo Gaming / Too Human talk
« on: March 10, 2003, 02:54:44 PM »
nonjagged: I'm assuming what you're saying is pure speculation, because we know quite literally *nothing* about Too Human's gameplay details, that is other than you cybornetically upgrade yourself. Silicon Knights could be donig something completely different than any of us expect.

Compression's biggest use is for FMV, though, which will be outdated very soon. I'm saynig there won't be any 20 gig games, but I'll be able to count all of them on one hand.
