Nintendo Gaming / WaveBird Suggestion
« on: March 19, 2003, 12:14:22 PM »
How would a docking station double the price? I have a rechargable docking station for my GBA with 2 battery packs that cost me something like $15.

"cost

Nintendo probable thought of it, but you have to be realistic. A rumble feature would put extra cost because the wavebird would also have to receive a signal. The battery life would also go down."

Yeah, and that's what everybody said about a lit Gameboy Advance- that it would be too expensive, too draining on the batteries, etc. Even *I* said Nintendo would never release a lit GBA. Then Nintendo pulls a fast one on all of us and releases a nice front-lit GBA with rechargable lithium batteries for an affordable price. Who says they can't do it again?

TalkBack / GameCube Sales Double in February

"As for the news at hand, I guess we see now that the GameCube outsells the Xbox when on equal ground, considering that MS has been giving away several games with every Xbox for some time."

True- even though I LOVED Jet Set Radio Future and with the XBox you get 2 free games, most people aren't interested in either and don't like either once they play them. With the Gamecube, even though you only get 1 game, you get a GOOD game that everybody will like.

Oh, I see- I was wondering why Planet Gamecube was reporting the announcement of Tubesliders as if it were new.

Odd- I have some 16 Gamecube games but I can't fit them all on a memory card 251 since it has file restrictions. In any case, I think a hard drive is a better route, with memory cards available if you want to take saved data over to a friend's house or something.

Is it just me, or have we known about this for a while now? I distinctly remember IGN reporting this exact same thing like a month ago. Is this just a report about the press release?

Gotcha, my mistake. Thanks professional.

1. Yep! My first game ever was Wolfenstein 3D, actually, and I played Doom I and II a *whole* lot. I play a lot of Final Doom now.
2. Other than giving me a keen liking for first-person shooters, no, they ddin't affect me. People who know me will tell you I wouldn't hurt a fly. I had a good upbringing and hence know the difference between fantasy and reality.
3. If the kid has mental problems or has trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality, well yeah, but I think anyone has to be at least a little crazy to inflict pain on a member of their own species. The fact is, most kids aren't affected at all by violent games. While some games may not be as good for developing problem solving skills as others, they certainly don't detoriate one's mind.

"Not true. A sequel would entail a continuation of the plotline. The Bond movies are all considered sequels to the last, yet the lead actor, writer, and director often change."

Also, the plot never picks up where the last left off. Bond girls are always in only one film and they never make mention to old Bond villains. It's kinda of like the deal with FFX-2: each new Final Fantasy game is an entirely new story with new characters and does not carry on from the last game. However, Final Fantasy X-2 is an actual sequel to Final Fantasy X, picking up where the it left off and involving the same character and world. I'm guessing that's what they mean by a "true" sequel to Goldeneye, a continuation of the Goldeneye plot rather than a whole new Bond mission.

Hehe- I just realise, if you sound out the letters of OPM, it sounds like opium.

Nintendo Gaming / New Sonic Adventures

Personally, I loved Sonic Adventure 2. It's not quite as good as Sonic Adventure, and nowhere near as good as Sonic 1-3/Knuckles, but still a great game, IMO. It really depends on your taste. You really don't play as much with Sonic, though, which could've made the game a LOT better.

There's actually 290 trophies, not 275. You'll have to work a bit harder, uglyness.

Nintendo Gaming / February Console & Game Sales (NPD)

I love how the first 11 games on the overall chart are all PS2 games. Our how the top 9 PS2 games all sold better than even the top game for both the XBox and Gamecube. Sony has a stranglehold on this market that really needs to be overthrown.

Also funny how the XBox outsold the Gamecube yet the Gamecube had better game sales- what are XBox owners buying?

Nintendo Gaming / Worst Gamecube Game...

I think most people who've played it agree that The Scorpion King si not only the worst Gamecube game, but one of the worst games ever made.

Okay, so HAL Laboratories isn't a 2nd party- my mistake and I'm sorry for any confusion (). But I'm still pretty sure Sonic Team is owned at least in part by Sega and I'm almost certain Nintendo does not own all of Silicon Knights.

::EDIT::

I'm right about Sonic Team:

http://games.ign.com/objects/026/026128.html

It says there that Sonic Team is a Sega *internal* developer, ala Nintendo's R&D's or EAD.

Why don't YOU find some evidence to back you up, gameferak. As far as I'm concerned, you're just pulling this stuff out of thin air. Where have you found info that Sonic Team and HAL are NOT owned by Sega and Nintendo respectively, and that Silicon Knights IS?

I was just asking if you did have them- I'm not saying you should look for them if you don't. Just wondering.

Why don't we like sports games? It's probably because we don't like sports in general, and hence don't like videogames about these sports.

Gamefreak: Calm down, man. Just because a company is owned 100% by another company doesn't mean they aren't independant in ways. Nintendo doesn't HAVE to dissolve any company they buy out, and I don't think they have. HAL IS A Nintendo first-aprty but they're also independant- they have their own teams and make their own games, but Nintendo owns them. Nintendo doesn't own all of Silicon Knights, maknig them a second party. Sonic Team is also a first party, sine Sega owns all of them. A first party doesn't HAVE to be the console manufacturer itself- rather it includes the console manufacturer and everyone they own.

Gamefreak: True, they're not Sega themselves but they ARE a first party, which is close enough. Sega owns 100% of them. It's like EAD at Nintendo.

You wouldn't need the GB Player necessarily. I think Nintendo could work out some way for the GCN-GBA link up cables to work to the modem adaptors.

I think this whole Sonic thing proves that Sega's not being bought out- the IGN article explicitly states that the reason Sega's pushing Sonic so hard is because of slipping earnings. If MS boguht out Sega, they wouldn't have any slippnig earnings because MS would've covered them.

Anyway, this is great. I've always been a huge Sonic fan (my second favorite platformer, right behind Mario) and this sounds like a erally great way for him to make a comeback.

I'm also a huge Sgea fan- second only to Nintendo in my mind. I wish them the best of luck.

I downloaded a bunch of orchestrated versions of the songs in OoT's sound track (like the Kokiri Forest, Gerudo Valley, Overworld, Ending, Goron City)- simply magnificent. I have to say OoT has my favorite soundtrack for any game ever.

Also, I love that wind-blowing noise in the Shadow Temple. Veeeery eerie.

Nintendo Gaming / More FF Games Coming ...?
« on: March 18, 2003, 07:03:17 AM »
"That's flat out wrong. Every studio I've ever heard talk has said they hate developing for the PS2. "

That's because the PS2 is a bitch to program for, even harder than the Saturn, according to Sega themselves. Of course programmers are going to hate programming for that thing. On the other hand, though, you have the XBox and Gamecube which are really easy to program for.

Anyway, I don't want to get into the GDS debate anymore except that I want everyone to realize that GDS does NOT make any games- all of Square's Gamecube game(s) are developer AT Square and BY Square then released under the GDS name so Squre can get money from Fund Q. In other words, Square makes all of GDS's games.
