General Chat / Good Books?

"Lewis Carrol is also thought to have been a pedophile. Being his "relationship" or what not with the girl (more than one maybe?) who supposibly inspired Alice. "

Yes, he was a bit TOO interested in the 12 or 13 year old girl he wrote Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass for and about. I hink Carrol eventually married his first cousin and they had 12 kids- or maybe that was his parents.

Uh, Family Guy and Futurama never left Adult Swim. They stopped showing them on Sunday, but they still come on Monday through Thursday. The 24th Cartoon Network is dropping Futurama for a while until they get the rest of the episodes.

This isn't about how many nerds you know who've modded their PSX or how many nerds I know who haven't- that's not adequate proof. You can't convince me that pirating is a serious problem that threatens this industry's well being by telling me you know a bunch of guys who pirate games. The PSX was the best selling console of all time and it had a plethora of huge selling games- if pirating can really bring down a company, why isn't Sony bankrupt by now? Windows is copied all the time and yet Microsoft is the richest company in the world. Pirating is a problem for developers, yes, but you can't honestly say any company is in trouble of going out of business BEAUSE of pirating.

"Pirating may be easy to those who follow the scene, but the majority of people who play games dont have a clue about it, I would bet that most people dont even realize that console games can be pirated."

EXACTLY- that's what I've been trying to say all this time, much to no avail. Thanks for putting it in simpler words.

"This is all my opinion, and is not right or wrong, but it appears to be a more common opinion than the opposite one, as sales clearly reflect."

Yes, because Zelda became the most preordered game in history because EVERYONE thought it was boring and repetitive. Look, I'm lgad you finally said what you thought instead of tossing out one-liners, but don't go assuming everyone shares your opinions because we DON'T. I don't know why people have come to the conclusion that sales are bad- like I said, Nintendo's performing at least as well as MS but you don't hear any discontent on that side of the fence. Nintendo's not doing as well as they should be doing but to say they're doing bad is downright idiotic. And sales don't indicate quality, cubed- you should know that. Most games nowadays sell on marketing alone- I think you'll find 99% of Gamecube owners love their system and all the games Nintendo has given them. From what I'VE seen, you're in the minority when it comes to your opinion of Nintendo's quality.

Not have I seen such destruction of an expensive piece of consumer electronics since that Sega fanboy at Daily Radar tossed a PS2 out a second story window then rolled over it with his car.

Hostile: Historians don't base their conclusion that Lewis Carrol did opium on the sole fact his stories were wierd- he didn't live that lnog ago, making evidence of it very easy to attain. Besides, almost every did opium back then since no one knew it was harmful.

Even Edgar Allen Poe, who wrote some extremely weird things as well (Tell Tale Heart gave me a new definition of "weird").

Nintendo Gaming / Rareware
« on: July 07, 2003, 12:36:44 PM »
Well, I think one of the main reasons Rare wasn't getting good sales was because they took so long to make a game- people lost interest after a while. All in all Nintendo was putting a lot of money into Rare and not getting a lot back. I STILL think their games were awesome, though- I just think it was absurd of Microsoft to pay $375 million for them.

You also raise a good point about people leaving- I wouldn't be too worried if the Stamper brothers were still there, but I'm not sure if they are. Either way I still think they have the ability to make some great games (although Grabbed by the Ghoulies looks horrible).

Mystic: A simple "check your spelling" would've done just fine.

I don't mind if someone callsme a raving lunatic if they at least point out why they think so and what they disagree about. People who sit on the side lines and toss out insults annoy me.

As far as I'm concerned you're a geek for taking the time of day to defend yourself and prove you're not one. I never said that the Dreamcast wasn't easy to pirate for, just that nobody really cared enough except for a bunch of losers who think they're bad because they didn't pay the 15 bucks for the game. Most everyone else in the home console realm actually buy their games.

How come nobody voiced their views abotu Rare's drop in quality BEFORE they left Nintendo? It doesn't make sense! Before anything hit the fan all anybody had for Rare was praise- Rare was constantly listed as a reason to own a Gamecube, and then all of the sudden Rare "Was never that good", or "their quality started dropping", but only AFTER Microsoft bought them? I loved Rare from when I first play Donkey Kong Country on the SNES all the way up to Starfox Adventures on the Gamecube (which I thought was great). Sure not ALL of Rare's games have been top notch, but NEARLY all have, and that's something only a handful of developers can ever claim to. Nintendo dropped Rare because of SALES people, not quality- as far as I'm concerned Rare kicked ass all the way through Starfox Adventures and all signs point to their continuous ass kicking on the XBox.

"nonjagged

you seriously need to seek professional help asap."

Cubed, if you're going to insult someone like that, don't just take a hit and run. You better be ready to have a counter argument to the guy you're bashing otherwise it just makes you look like a jerk. While I may not agree with all of nonjagged's views (I think), he's at least adressing anything people throw at him instead of just taking low blows at them.

Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are both extremely good books, but are also extremely weird. Lewis Carrol's opium habit is quite obvious.

Rare's gone because of poor sales, not poor games- Rare is one of my favorite developers ever and I've had hours of enjoyment playing them games across nearly every Nintendo console. I understand WHY Nintendo let them go, but I don't understand why people feel the need to bash them since since they can't play their games anymore. I may not like Microsoft, but those XBox owners are getting a real gem of a developer and I hope they show them more respect than most Nintendo fan/fanboys are showing them now.

It pisses me off how much Rare gets bashed now that they're with Microsoft. I find it VERY odd you heard only praise for Rare before they were sold off by Nintendo.

I never said Nintendo was underpeforming, just that they were being outperformed. I thought I had amde it clear that Nintendo is doing very well, but they're not doing near as well as they could be doing. It's very good their profits are much larger than MS and Sony's despite poorer sales, but the general fact of the matter is, if you couple Nintendo's ability to make large profits with Sony's sales you get HUGE profits, and that can only benefit Nintendo. Please believe me when I say that I do not think Nintendo is in any trouble, but I DO think they could be doing a lot better. It's like Will Hunting in Good Will Hunting- Nintendo's got the potential, they're just not using it.

Yeah, this kind of annoyed me too- I don't encounter it too often now for some reason, but Rick says the board doesn't distinguish between full fledged posts and edits, so there's not much they can do about it, if anything. I definitely know what you mean, though.

I believ ehtye were stealing isotopes, and it was GL that actually saved the van, I believe. The Flash is a much deeper character than they've portrayed and it really annoys me he gets the short end of the stick. They gaven't even had a Flash villain appear yet- I mean, even GL had Star Sapphire. The Flash is not some arrogant little prick who annoys everybody- he's just as much able as anyone there, possibly even more so.
