You've only heard the first track, Striker? For the love of god, listen to it the second your record store gets it in. In my opinion Everything Goes Numb is a lot better than Keasbey Nights

Nah nah nah, the order goes like this:

1. Hello Rockview
2. Losing Streak
3. B is for B-Sides
4. Anthem
5. Borders and Boundaries
6. Pezcore

My favorite songs from each go as such:

1. Hello Rockview - Nervous in the Alley (best ska song ever written, in my opinion)
2. Losing Streak - Jen Doesn't Like Me Anymore
3. B is for B-Sides - Sleep it Off
4. Anthem - Motown Never Sounded So Good
5. Borders and Boundaries - Gainesville Rock City
6. Pezcore - Where the Hell is Mike Sinkovich?

I've only seen LTJ live once, at Warped Tour last year. They were more than worth the price of the ticket alone, though- their live shows are just amazing. I might see if I can go to Projekt Revolution, but all the bands on it besides LTJ suck balls.

The post in the other thread was about how much time a developer has to develop new games in house. Burnout 3 wouldn't be as good as it is going to be if it was to be published by Acclaim again with less money on the project and it's lower standards. Timesplitters 3 will also benefit from EA publishing it.

I seem to recall both Burnout and Burnout 2 being incredible when Acclaim was publishing them. The quality of a game is not determined by its publisher or how much money is being pumped into it. I also seem to recall Timesplitters 2 blowing me away despite not having EA's near infinite money supply being thrown at it. In fact, I recall it being my favorite console FPS to date. EA has nothing to do with how Burnout 3 and Timesplitters 3 turn out- they're merely funding the projects. Those two games' quality will rest in the talent of the developer. It's insulting to them to suggest their games will be good because of EA.

odifiend: I know what American Pie is (bad "comedy") but what's Van Wilder?

It was National Lampoon trying to relive its glory days of Animal House, complete with the same story of a slacker making his way through college while still trying to find time to party. It was a pretty funny movie, though- had some good laughs.

and tons of people here on this forum are salivating over Burnout 3 and Timesplitters 3

Neither of which are being developed by EA, might I add- I shouldn't have to explain to you the difference between "developer" and "publisher", joe, since you got on Deguello's case in another thread for making the same generalization you just did.

I could go into detail why I disagree with you about EA, but it's pointless since the argument won't go anywhere. I just had to point out that glaring mistake.

mouse_clicker- I find sailing boring in the fact that there wasn't much to do with the King of Red Lions. I thought of it as a bathroom break, to go between islands, in an empty, bland ocean. At least Hyrule Field wasn't that big, and you weren't there ALL THE TIME, and you only ride Epona for a couple minutes AT MOST. It takes -TWO MINUTES- to go through a square, and it just took far too much of the game. Darn the tediousness!

I love riding Epona, too! Epona's one of the best parts of Ocarina of Time. I'd just ride around Hyrule Field watching the sun and moon rise and set and looking for secrets and poes.

Yes, I know WW is low on dungeons (though I don't differentiate between temples and other dungeons...) but at least they were dungeons I enjoyed.

I completely agree- while I definitely would've liked more challenge in WW's dungeons, they were fun as hell. Case in point the mirror puzzle (can't remember which dungeon it's from, but you know what I'm talking about). The mirror puzzle wasn't hard at all but I had a blast doing it. Probably my favorite single puzzle in a Zelda game yet.

Quote

If Nintendo did the same thing with OOT as with WW (kicking out sub-par dungeons) I don't think OOT would have many left.

I completely disagree- I think every single dungeon in OoT was nothing less than superb. The Water Temple especially just blew me away. If Nintendo had kicked out the sub-par dungeons in OoT, it would have had the exact same amount.

Hm, english doesn't really have a nice convenient verb for filling up the gas tank- I'm going to start saying "tanking", maybe it'll catch on.

So is german your first language, KDR?

Dying System? There's some grain of truth, but it sounds like PR spin so they can justify putting Xbox and PS2 ports. I mean, SNK VS Capcom isn't going to look much better on the 'Box than on the 'Cube... (Though playing it on Live may make it a more attractive option, see Capcom VS SNK 2.)

Arguably the XBox is more of a dying system than the Gamecube, since worldwide it's in 3rd. That counts double since Metal Slug is a very Japanese styled game.

Also, Capcom vs SNK 2 EO sold better on the Gamecube, I believe.

What about the tedious sailing. I refuse to believe it was NOT boring, eventually. Just a thought.

Never- I voluntarily mapped out every single square in Wind Waker. I loved the sailing- I didn't like how most of it was pointless, but I definitely enjoyed myself while engaging in the activity. Also, you can't assume that anyone who prefers WW only has a Gamecube- Bill will set you straight in that regard.

I myself still prefer Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask in terms of gameplay, but Wind Waker had both absolutely killed in atmosphere and style.

You must be joking. Kids today are so coddled it isn't even funny. Kids in the NES days were real gamers, little brats tackling contra, donkey kong, metroid and the like. I doubt 5% of kids today could take any of OUR generations games.

I completely agree- older games were merciless. Metroid in particular I never even beat because it was too damn hard- every time you'd continue they'd start you off with 30 health and no extra energy tanks regardless of how many you had, it was insane. Couple that with the fact you never knew where the hell you were or where you were going.  Today's games, while still very fun, just aren't anywhere near as challenging as they used to be, which can be a good or bad thing depending.

the memory card situation didn't help, big mistake by nintendo. now there's the 1015 but a little too late.

The memory card wasn't what drove anyone away, though, it's just a nice patsy. Yes, it was a small problem that contributed to a negative view of the Gamecube, but singling it out does no use because individually the small memory cards didn't stop anyone from doing anything/

And Touchdown's name is stretching the board tables- can a mod crop it?

So by summer cleaning you mean took away most of the game boards? I guess that'll help. At the moment it's just flooding the Gamecube Discussion with redundant posts, and only asking for more to be created. Mario had a good point, though, that hopefully it'll spark some discussion in that board.

And Grey's not coming back, we all know that by now. He visits from time to time, but I'd be really surprised if he came back. I think he's pretty much done with message boards as a whole, now.

Sega cancelled their Gamecube sports games because the series as a whole was bombing and they had to cut their losses somewhere. It just so happened that the Gamecube versions were bombing (much) more than the rest. Sports games don't do well on Nintendo consoles anymore because the Nintendo fanbase is reduced to mostly hardcore fans, who don't like sports games at all.

Sadly Nintendo usually breaks all three of these.

You people are so hard to please- if Nintendo releases ports, you say you want original games (Mario). If Nintendo releases original titles you complain about how they're not like the original games (Metroid). Make up your minds!

Also, LttP hardly qualifies as a crap port- it had an entirely new game in it. Anyone who claims Four Swords GBA wasn't a new game obviously didn't play it.

And I'd rather have that difficulty. What happened to Nintendo being able to make games that were at least somewhat challenging? That weren't so easy that a 5 year old could beat them?

Mumei, you have a bad habit of exaggerating- yes, Wind waker was easier than the other Zelda games, but saying it wasn't even somewhat challenging and that a 5 year old could beat it is just flaunting your ignorance.

Actually what I said is exactly what Microsoft said in their press releases/conferences...  It's been posted on many websites.  LINK HERE

Sorry for lashing out at you then. That doesn't make it any better, though- in fact, it makes it worse. Why should MS feel the need to justify their own statistics? And why were they forced to do so with such a poor analogy?

I just wanted to point out that Less Than Jake released a new album Tuesday, B is for B-sides, which is the rest of the songs recorded during the Anthem sessions. It's quite good, especially Sleep it Off. I'd definitely suggest everyone check it out, even if it's less ska than you're used to from Less Than Jake.

Soul Calibur 2 or to a lesser degree Prince of Persia- both of those games demonstrate how multiplatform games should be made. If you ask me I can't tell the difference between any of the versions, except maybe the XBox version having higher resolution. Otherwise they're practically identical.

I'm not surprised. Making realistic graphics is a pretty straight-foward process. Cel-shading involves a lot of programming on the side to make it work.

In essence realistic graphics are easier, but making them convincing is incredibly difficult. When a game tries to immitate real life, you judge it much more harshly because you're extremely accustomed to it. You notice every little discrepancy in a realistic style, which can really bring the whole thing down. With a cartoony style, such as Wind Waker's, we don't judge it nearly as harshly and accept it much more readily. If a realistic style isn't very detailed it can fall flat on its face- other styles don't suffer from this.

200,000+ isn't bad, guys. You can't expect everything to sell a million copies, that just isn't how it works. A lot of great games don't even break 100,000.

1 important fact is that it took AOL 3 times as long as it did Xbox Live to reach 1 million users... Ofcourse people will argue but yea you only needed 56k for AOL... BUT you need broadband for Xbox Live... (negates the 56k argument basically). Then think of how many more computers there were in the world when AOL started compared to how many Xbox have been sold... When you think of it that way, and it took AOL 3 times as long, now the statistics for XBL sound pretty good...

No, no the statistics don't sound good- it sounds like you're going out of your way to compare two completely different events in a desperate attempt to justify this. What a horrible analogy.

No, no- Ninja Gaiden didn't just "borrow" gameplay mechanisms from Devil May Cry, it WAS Devil May Cry, down to the fine little details. The biggest difference was the main character was a ninja instead of half-devil. I'm all for the spreading of gameplay mechanisms, but only when the developer is going to refine and improve that mechanism. Team Ninja just took Devil May Cry, made it prettier, changed the locales and character, and called in "Ninja Gaiden"- that's called ripping off.

And I love hard games, don't get me wrong, but only when I'm still having fun. Ninja Gaiden is difficult to the point where I have no interest in playing it. Games like Viewtiful Joe or Ikaruga are incredibly difficult, too, but not at the cost of my enjoyment. They're difficult in such a way that I'm encouraged to keep trying. Ninja Gaiden pissed me off, Viewtiful Joe and Ikaruga never did.

And besides all that, Itagaki is still an arrogant, pretenious ass- there's no two ways around that.

What'd I say about a technical debate? Are we going to have to get KDR in here?

In any case, yes, I was referring to Devil May Cry in my comment about Ninja Gaiden, and I don't see how anyone who has played both games couldn't come to the same conclusion- the similarities are apparent, right down to collecting different colored orbs, one to refill health and the other to redeem at various statues for an odd assortment of new abilities and items. Ninja Gaiden IS Devil May Cry with a Ninja, and a lot more frustrating.

They also ripped the wall running RIGHT out of Prince of Persia.

I'm talking about a specific game, you're trying to do a system comparison. My point is Itagaki originally claimed that Dead or Alive 3 was IMPOSSIBLE on the Gamecube and could ONLY be done on the XBox, and yet there are clearly Gamecube games surpassing it, which either proves that Itagaki lied or he was making a very ignorant claim, neither of which are any good at all.
