Nah, Eternal Darkness could have done just fine with the proper marketing. In any case we'll never know for sure because Nintendo didn't try.

So basically most of the current generation of humans never become lactose intolerant because we as a species consume vast amounts of dairy products? The wonders of evolution.

In reality, though, there's absolutely no problem drinking milk or eating ice cream until the day you die. I just wanted to point out it deserves at least as much attention as caffein assuming it's roughly on the same level. You never hear milk getting bad press, though.

Caffeine is basically a scaled down version of crack- works the exact same way just on a much lower level. In fact, over time it can cause pancreatic cancer and death. However, that's only if you consume massive amounts of caffeine daily, much more than a few cans of Coke or Pepsi could ever provide. Even manunited's caffeine pills wouldn't do the trick. The fact of the matter is you're perfectly safe drinking soda or coffee or tea, just as long as that's not ALL you drink. Really, if you're worried about caffeine you should be just as worried about milk- most people don't know it, but milk contains as many ingredients that leech bone mass as add to it. You're really only supposed to drink it while growing, and then afterwards you're supposed to become lactose intolerant- what we consider normal for humans is actually a genetic defect that ended up being the dominant trait over lactose intolerance. Just because caffeine gets a lot of press doesn't mean it's dangerous at all when not taken in extreme excess.

And the Omen is right- vegetables are just as dangerous as meat is. Most of the vegetables we eat are not grown in the United States and hence aren't produced under our own standards. A lot of experimental pesticides that didn't get FDA approval in the US are used in other countries and work their way in our diets anyway.

A sequence break is when you get to an upgrade or area before you're supposed to. It's so easy in Zero Mission because you have an unlimited amount of morph bombs, meaning if you're skilled enough you can get just about anywhere. Johnny mentioned that in his review.

The Critic is another show Fox axed before it's prime, although I guess they had reason enough to do so. Still a magnificent show, Lovitz's best work since Saturday Night Live.

Eternal Darkness scared you through a creep atmosphere. Resident Evil scares you through jumpy moments (and wondering when those jumpy moments are going to happen next). Just different styles. Personally, I get scared a LOT more by Resident Evil, but that may also be because any surprise or loud noise scares the hell out of me.

I think the only thing it lacks at this point is word from Nintendo itself- I'm sure you can bank on Factor 5 making Pilotwings.

There are more people at Nintendo beside this one man that can make a great game.

Miyamoto himself embraces this- you do realize that Ocarina of Time was the last Zelda game he directed, right? He's taken a much more reserved role, offering input on projects headed by other people rather than making the games himself. He is, essentially, training a new generation of game designers.

If you're happy with your GBA, keep it. If you don't like having to replace batteries or use different sources of lights, I believe several stores have nice deals where you can trade your old GBA in towards the purchase of an SP. I personally prefer the original GBA myself, since it feels much nicer in my hands, has much better positioned shoulder buttons (indeed, more comfortable buttons overall), and since I play at home mostly anyway I don't need the light. That's just me, though.

The two movies were entitled Is it Fall Yet and Is it College Yet, the latter of which served as the finale for the series.

What's even worse than the fact that MTV cancelled Daria is the fact that they refuse to release it on DVD because "there is not enough demand for it" (despite the fact that Undergrads has its own DVD release). Luckily they did have the common deceny to release both (excellent) made for TV Daria movies on DVD, although the soundtrack in the second one was altered because MTV didn't want to pay for the rights to the original soundtrack.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:GCN 2 possibly delayed...
« on: February 09, 2004, 02:35:53 PM »
Also, hasn't Sony and Microsoft said they plan to launch their next consoles in 2006? And hasn't Nintendo said they will launch their next system at the same time as their competitors, no sooner and no later? So then why are we all expecting Nintendo's next console to be launched in 2005, as in next year? I think we have quite a while, 2 years at least, to wait for the next generation.

By the way, check out IGNCube's latest mailbag- they admitted that the quote from Iwata used in the article was lifted from a prior interview, and everything about the periphrials is pure speculation (according to NOA itself). It still may be true, but what IGN (and apparently Gamespot) have reported is far from a confirmation.

Piracy: Sega reported a loss of over $200million dollors from piracy of DreamCast Software for fiscal year 2000. You are right that piracy doesnt effect the industy on the whole but combine that knida loss coupled with the foolishness that they called direction and you have failure. PS was the most pirated system ever but people were still buying games in addition to the undergroud bootlegs.

Actually, I believe it was closer to $150 million, and I believe it was due mainly to Sega's price cuts that did very little to stimulate sales. Find where Sega themselves said they lost $200 million to piracy specifically and I'll believe you. Otherwise, piracy to Sega was one very small chip in a block that was already filled with cracks.

MTV's videogame show was dwarfed in irrelevance only by SpikeTV's videogame awards. As for the shows that MTV has brought to us (easily the best of which was Daria, one of the best cartoons period, in my opinion), I look at it this way- Fox was also the channel that brought us Family Guy and Futurama, but it doesn't mean I like them anymore than having a pencil shoved into my jugular.

I myself would be content if the current generation lasted  quite a bit longer, but I also want Nintendo to launch their next console at the same time Microsoft and Sony launch theirs.

Whoa now ladies, lets not get too upset. For one, "NINTENDO IS NOT SEGA". Sega didn't fall from silly add ons, they fell because bootlegs of DreamCast games were as easy to come buy as milk, eggs and cheese.

WRONG. The Dreamcast failed because of a combination of Sega's ineptitude at managing a console and Sony's constant PS2 hype- piracy had nothing to do with the Dreamcast's death. If that were true, the Playstation, the best selling console in history, would have failed as well, consider it was also the most pirated console in history. Piracy just doesn't have that big of an effect on the industry. Maybe Sega's add ons specifically didn't bring about their downfall, but they represented Sega's inability to effectively market a console.

TalkBack / RE:Burnout 3 Swerves to Miss GameCube
« on: February 09, 2004, 12:34:55 PM »
Kovu, read the newspost again- Burnout 3 is being developed specifically for any one console, it's being made on Criterions on RenderWare middleware platform, which makes it extremely easy to port the game from one system to another. That essentially eliminates any excuses not to have Burnout 3 on the Gamecube.

Are you guys sequence breaking? I know some people who have beaten the ROM in 39 minutes because they were able to skip huge chunks of the game. Fusion had absolutely no sequence breaks at all, which is probably why it took you longer your first time.

I don't know, maybe you guys didn't develop ears when you're were incubating inside your mother's womb, but Enya has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. Not to mention that, but her compositions and lyrics are beyond mortal comprehension. Seriously, if you're attacking Enya for making bad music, you're obviously intimidated by something that doesn't have a guitar blaring so loudly you have no clue what you're listening to. Maybe your standards are too high, in which case I'd laugh at almost any singer you'd place above Enya. I can understand if you don't like her style of music, but I can't see how you could possibly say she's not a very talented musician.

Actually I was hoping that the next Mario didn't have anything that needed to be hidden. I don't WANT some new big change to the Mario formula. I just want a good Mario game that doesn't focus everything around some gimmick no one cares about.

Just because Miyamoto doesn't want to show it doesn't mean the game revolves around a gimmick- I believe he said the exact same thing about Super Mario 64, and the biggest difference between it and past Mario games was the addition of a third dimension. I think Miyamoto has also said on numerous occasions that SM128 was going to be more of a direct sequel to SM64 (hence the name ), so I think you'll be satisfied.

I LOVED Metroid Prime's difficulty- it was a hard game, and it really made you feel rewarded when you beat it (especially on Hard Mode). I hope they don't change a thing in Metroid Prime 2 in regards to the difficulty.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:A realistic Zelda afterall?
« on: February 08, 2004, 05:58:50 PM »
The original Legend of Zelda had more pointless trapsing around the overworld to collect things than any other game in the series! And none of the sidequests were required in OoT- you beat one dungeon, you go on to the next. It's not that complicated. The game CAN be beaten in some 6 hours, you know. :/
