Nintendo Gaming / RE:Resident Evil 4 Discussion

No, no- this isn't speculation. Some places are reporting that Capcom themselves have said they threw out what we saw in the trailers and started over from scratch.

I'm not much of a fan of online gaming myself, but I have to say, Pokemon would make the PERFECT MMORPG. It's almost as if it were meant to be one all along.

Short sited nothing, Amac- what has Halo offered to the genre that hasn't been done a million times already? And who cares if you have fun playing Halo on LAN? I probably have more fun playing SSBM with 3 other people and I'd warrant it has the exact same fighting engine as its N64 predecessor. I'm not saying Halo is a bad game- stop assuming that anyone who doesn't think it's the second coming of the Messiah hates it. I love Halo- one of the best first-person shooters I've played in years. Nothing it did, though, was new, just better. I guess that deserves some praise, but game of the year? Hardly. Is it a revolutionary title? Nope. What about an innovative game at all? Not even. Halo should be considered no more of an original title than Rogue Leader.

What really brings down your argument, though, is you bash Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, and Super Mario Sunshine. Who mentioned any of those games at all? Stop being a hypocrite and just accept that Halo was a run of the mill FPS that deserves no more praise than any other title exactly like it. Your pathetic justifications, like "amazing AI", good controls, and vehicular combat (which Bungie took from its own Myth series) are no better than your sarcastic rationalizations of the Gamecube games you attempt use against me.

That's what I've read on just about every website talking about Resident Evil 4, namely MagicBox.

Even so, Omen, Nintendo still has an incredible amount of very loyal fans. It's a testament to Nintendo's level of quality and devotion that their diehard fans alone could not only carry them through hard times but turn them an enormous profit as well.

Team Ninja also spews out crap more often than not- at least Yamauchi is correct, or at least justified, in what he says most of the time. I have absolutely no respect for Team Ninja or Tecmo anymore.

I am sure Capcom previewed the article to make sure people are not misled.

I doubt Capcom had anything to do with the article- the whole issue with Nikkei and their report on Nintendo should show that the media rarely checks their accuracy before going to press.

Wow. I just saw the pictures, and it's quite a........... change. I find it kind of odd that Capcom completely threw out the old scenario- the trailer had a lot of very spooky scenes I was anticipating. I trust Capcom, but from the look of it now they're going for more of an action game, which doesn't ring Resident Evil in my head. I'll wait until E3 to make any more of a judgement, though.

Also, Zero_Plague has as much right to disapprove of the game as everyone else does praising it.

Inkwell, Nintendo is one of the most profitable videogame developer (probably THE most profitable), and that fact alone means Nintendo will be around for a very long time. On top of that, Denis Dyack has broguht up a very good point numerous times- the difference in console power from generation to generation is shrinking, and eventually will virtually dissappear altogether. That's when people aren't going to look at graphical quality or similar features, but rather the quality of the gameplay, which is one area Nintendo has down better than anyone else.

7 is actually a very serious episode that explains a lot- no completely pointless and mindless things that make you question your sanity in it.

Holy crap! I just watched 3 episodes of this today (5, 6, and 7). I feel like I'm on drugs. o_O I usually hate anime, but there are 3 shows and 3 shows only that I make an exception for- Kikaider, Fooly Cooly, and Abenobashi (not surprisingly from the same guy who made Fooly Cooly).

I'm sure all of those GOTY awards it recieved were unjustified...

Actually, yeah they were- name one thing Halo did that no other FPS has. You can't, can you? That's because Halo didn't do anything new, it just did the same old things better. Don't get me wrong, that's nothing to scoff at, but certainly nothing to praise, either.

Yeah, I look like a hippy with the hair but I'm about the furthest thing from it. I'm not antiwar and I'm not a vegetarian by any stretch of the definition. A lot of people also think I'm a stoner, and it perplexes them to discover I've never done any drugs in my life.

With the gaming media though I think it's more of a bias. I mean you can't write about games for a living and ignore a major player like Nintendo. You have to choose to ignore them.

I swear, Ian, you always have a quote that sums up my sentiments exactly.

I'm very glad to see the DS has some strong Japanese support. I hope Nintendo pursues American developers just as much and that they are as optimistic as their eastern brethren.

You're kidding, right Inkwell? I'll admit Sony's maturing as a developer, but they've hardly done anything innovative beyond the EyeToy. Their games are a micture of genre cliches that they simply do a little bit better than most other developers. Certainly nothing to write home about. And Microsoft has juist plain bought whatever they can't make themselves, which is just about everything. The titles I consider most innovative on the XBox aren't even associated with MS in anyway, besides the fact that MS bought their exclusivity. Nintendo, on the other hand, has continuously experiment with new gameplay and artistic ideas. In fact, most of the complains people have with games like, say, Super Mario Sunshine is that they're too different than their predecessors and would rather Nintendo stick to the proven formula. Really the only console series that has remained completely unchanged is Mario Party, which of course is always singled out in debates like these. The bottom line is you quite simply cannot claim MS and Sony have been innovating at all while Nintendo hasn't. I don't care if it's your opinion, it's a grossly misinformed one.

NIN is like VHS, it still there but does it really compare to DVD (Sony or MS)...

Another bonehead quote from you, Inkwell. The media is attacking Nintendo so much because Nintendo was once the industry leader, and now they're not, despite have an incredibly loyal fanbase. And as we all know, controversy sells news.

It comes down to this: if a third party f*cks us over, we f*ck them over.

Someof those games didn't sell well *period* kovu, such as Metal Arms, which actually sold better on the Gamecube than the PS2 (and best on the XBox). Beyond Good and Evil also sold *very* poorly on all three platforms. And while Prince of Persia's sales weren't bad, persay, 500,000 units being nothing to scoff at, it should have sold at least that much on the PS2 alone, and well over a million total. as for Need for Speed, I highly doubt it sold bad at all on the Gamecube. It is true that 3rd party titles generally do worse on the Gamecube, and for very good reasons, but the titles you listed were very poor examples.  In any case, there's absolutely no reason for EA not to release Burnout 3 on the Gamecube. Firstly, Burnout sold very well on the Gamecube, and Burnout 2 sold as well as it could (Acclaim hardly shipped any titles- my EB still doesn't have any copies, and never will). Second, EA has very good relations with Nintendo. Third, Criterion has the game set up to be easily, quickly, and inexpensively ported to another console, and although you have a point that that doesn't eliminate the work altogether, it gives EA no excuse to ignore the Gamecube considering even Acclaim didn't for the previous 2 titles.

I'd like to agree with Bloodworth, that the game will be ported to the Gamecube eventually, I think there are entirely different circumstances now as opposed to the first game. This time it isn't both the XBox and Gamecube being ignored, it's just the Gamecube, and to me that suggests Burnout 3 will not appear on it at all. It's still possible, though.

According to IGN it's being localized for the US as we speak. It'd be a shame if when the Gamecube finally started getting some quality RPG's they don't end up getting released outside of Japan. I'm glad Namco saw past that.

I think brushing your teeth works better. I used to drink so much soda my resting heart rate was 120 bpm. I also had gingivitis because I didn't brush my teeth enough (even after I had a gingivectomy). I solved both problems by brushing my teeth whenever I wanted to drink soda. That way I brushed my teeth a lot more often and I wasn't drinking any soda since it would taste so disgusting after having just brushed my teeth.
