Nintendo Gaming / RE:GC dance mat game?
« on: February 16, 2004, 09:28:39 AM »
With compression, Konami could fit a lot more music on the disc, too. Really, there is no technical excuse for Konami not to put DDR on the Gamecube.

I am guessing for the way it streams image from the disk. Playing the whole mountain in one shot, it takes almost an hour. I am guessing some innovation was in use here.

Metroid Prime used the same technique 2 years ago, and True Crime used it better than SSX 3 last year, yet neither of those were nominated for innovation (at least not True Crime).

You can do it on the PS2 as well- most people don't, though, because it's no fun.

I, too, think the GBA SP is horribly designed- the square shape hurts my hands almost as much as the NES controller did, the buttons feel very awkward and I'm never sure if I've pressed them down, and I actually had to flip the unit over and search for the shoulder buttons the first time I used an SP- I still have to consciously place my fingers on the shoulder buttons when I use one. In all actuality the only thing I think the SP has over a regular GBA is a light and a rechargable lithium battery. But really, with an Afterburner and set of rechargable AA batteries (which are even better since you don't have to wait for hours should your battery die like with the SP), I don't see the SP as being better at all, just a ploy by Nintendo to get people to buy the same system again. It worked.

Still, though, the N-Gage has got to be designed 100 times worse than the SP could ever have been. Honestly, it's as if Nokia tried to piss of their customers.

But wait, Deguello! Bioware zoomed in on Knights of the Old Republic! =O You're telling me that's not innovative?!?!

If you ask me it seems like the AIAS just picked a few big name games, like KOTOR, Wind Waker, and Prince of Persia, and nominated them for just about everything, regardless of whether or not they deserved it.

Each stage has several secret shines. Also, remember to play through all those other wordly platforming stages again.

Actually, with the proper compression, I think a Gamecube disc can hold up to 3 gigabytes of data.

Which big breasted hot chick? It explains Mune Mune in the 7th episode, though, which kind of makes the previous six disgusting.

The problem is if you try to offer something too new to a game series, people complain that it's not the same anymore. But if you don't offer something new enough, people will complain that it hasn't changed any. The public is very fickle, and I think Nintendo has found the chord to strike with most of us.

Is that an actual picture of you, Omen? It looks like someone scribbled on the photo with a black crayon over your cheeks.

It's been reported that what was shown earlier has been scrapped- we're not entirely sure, but I'd bet on it.

Also, it wasn't FMV- what you see in the early trailers was actual gameplay. It just looks that good.

Sweet zombie Jesus, that video is incredible. O_O I guess Apple must be REALLY popular in Japan, or something.

I'm still trying to comprehend how long that line was. Holy $#!+.

Even 2 full discs of pure gameplay is an incredible amount of playtime. They have to be filling the discs with something else entirely

Chongman summed up my sentiments exactly. Thank you Chongman.

I never claimed any of those games were worthy of being GotY, either- in fact, the only reason we're even talking about GotY worthiness is because YOU brought it up as "proof" that Halo was innovative. Halo is quite simply not an innovative title- that's not necessarily a bad thing, just something you need to realize. Nothing you've listed so far has been innovative at all. Just get over it- Halo is not an original game, just a very good one. In the end, that says more about Bungie's ability to make a good game (I know they can be innovative- they proved that with the Marathon series), rather than Microsoft's. Microsoft merely bought out Bungie.

But how can they fill up 3 discs with pure gameplay?!?!? That has to be easily 200+ hours of gameplay!

I share you sadness- DDR is one of my favorite games ever. I have a PS2 primarily to play it, and even spent $130 on a metal home pad.

Anyway, a bongo game is a music game, similar to DDR, that uses bongo drum controllers. Beyond that I don't know much more, but reportedly Donkey Kongo is very fun.

Nope, Konami appears to be headed by the same people as Fox and decided to release Dance Dance Revolution on the Xbox instead of the Gamecube. What prompted them to make such a ludicrous decision is beyond me, but sadly, there are no dancing games for the Gamecube.

However, there is a bongo game, Donkey Konga, due out soon in the US!

What's all this with Free Radical? I thought EA only got the publishing rights to TS3.

Well, I think EA has the publishing rights to Free Radicals games in general. Besides, EA doesn't have to buy out Free Radical to have them develop a Bond game. Amusement Vision developed F-Zero GX and Nintendo didn't have to buy them out.

Also, it's really weird seeing Termin8 and oohboy have a conversation- battle of the Natalie Portman avatars!

How on earth can they fill 3 game discs with pure gameplay then? That's some 4.5GB uncompressed!

I honestly wonder what they're going to fill 3 discs with- they don't have prerendered backrounds anymore, and as good as the game looks in game there's no need for FMV cutscenes.

Awesome reference to Real Ultimate Power on the main page. For the record, though, the quote goes as such.

I heard that there was this ninja who was eating at a diner.  And when some dude dropped a spoon the ninja killed the whole town.

No, it's not speculation- I'M not the one fabricating this. Reportedly Capcom themselves said they threw out what you saw in the trailer. That's straight from the horse's mouth, I'm not making it up. It's very possible it's not true, but I doubt it.

I usually don't post much in here, either, actually.

But to all newbies, don't do anything dumb and you won't get banned. It wouldn't hurt to read the rules either.
