TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Announces Fitness Game Ring Fit Adventure
« on: September 12, 2019, 09:01:47 PM »
The RPG makes it seem like they're to make this more of a typical videogame.  "See, it's not another Wii Fit.  It's a real game that happens to involve exercise!"  But I think that the target audience that wants an RPG just want a damn RPG without exercise gimmicks and the Wii Fit audience was perfectly content with Wii Fit's approach.  I suspect this will clog store shelves much like Labo current is as Nintendo tries to recapture the Wii magic despite the fact that the Switch is a resounding success so this is completely unnecessary.

I think the game is meant to be another Wii Fit.  They put the RPG stuff in it for people who want something to get them a little more active, but want it more gameified.  Stuff like Fitness Boxing or Just Dance and give you a good, pre-set workout, but you still move to be graded on your movements.  An RPG layer lets you move and get a small reward (damage dealt to an enemy) based on your movements instead of a "good" or "perfect".

Quote
I get my enjoyment from the gameplay and if your videogame needs dumb gimmicks to hide it's shallow gameplay then your game is **** and I'm not going to play it.

The sparkling innovation isn't meant to hide gameplay, the gameplay is an excuse for the motion controls.  I don't think Nintendo would make this game without the motion controls.  They'd just try to make a good game.

3D Touch was such a good feature.  I honestly miss having it.  Wasn't sure I would since I didn't use it all the time, but those times when I would've used it really stand out now.

I still have hope for Travis Touchdown.  Just wanted to throw that out there.

I'm also not interested in the new iPhone lineup.  I'm surprised the baseline model is more based on the XR than the XS, but I guess the 11 Pro is more XS.

I currently have a XR, so I'm in no rush.  But if next year is the redesign year, then the year after would be where I'd normally strike.  However, I'm back in school so my phone budget ain't what it used to be.

Glad to see prices are trending back down a bit?

For a WTF-Out-Of-Left-Field pick how about Chargin' Chuck from the Super Nintendo games? We could use a more sports related entry in the roster and aside from Waluigi or another generic NES character to represent those old sports games, Chuck could be a fun one. Have him tackle opponents and throw a ball at opponents.

I'd like Chargin' Chuck as an assist trophy, personally.  Seeing him in Odyssey hit me right in the nostalgia.

Capcom only has tertiary stuff such as Rathalos.
Capcom has the most third party representation on the playable roster: Mega Man, Ryu, and Ken. Don't disrespect the Blue Bomber like that, yo.

I misread and thought he meant that as what was left for Capcom to add, and I was about to demand an apology to Phoenix Wright.  Also, Phoenix Wright for Smash.  And also Professor Layton.  Then the Layton vs Wright thing can be properly settled.

Hush is hard to adapt, but it sounded like they added stuff that didn't need to be there and/or wasn't good.

I think it's unfair to call the links posted by spambots "crap links" unless you click on them which I did not do out of fear.

20 is a lot, and I think Sakurai and the team spend a lot of time already balancing the current roster.  Honestly, I'm happy that we're getting a total of 6 DLC fighters already (with the two released).  If Sakurai added another, I'd be thrilled, but I wouldn't expect it.

Homerun Contest and maybe a return of Smash Run would be great though.

In light of recent events, I am surprised and thrilled.

Nice post, bro.

Wow, did that bot just jack your post but give it the proper context through quotes?

Lmao, yeah.

I could maybe see one last batch of Nintendo Selects Titles for the 3DS. This is basically the 3DS's last Christmas in any kind of retail setting and it would make sense to give it one last push.

I'm not so sure. EBGames no longer has a section for 3DS games. It is Switch only now. Even some Best Buy's seem to have cleared away shelf space for 3DS games. It may be too late to introduce some final Select titles for the system.

They could still bring down the prices of digital games on 3DS.

Well, it's not like ratings week to week are an issue with Netflix.  Also, Netflix has to expect people to want to binge, as they're used to, so I would expect them to let a full season run before making any decisions about total streams.

The move to weekly is making more and more sense to me.  With some of their shows/movies people talk about them for maybe the week following release and then nothing.  Social media "word of mouth" is probably their best marketing strategy, and you need people to watch something for longer than the trending topic cycles.

The weekly thing is kinda bold.  I was expecting each show to have between 4-6 episode drop and have the rest of the first seasons come out in intervals to keep people talking.

The only way a movie could be bad in the way oohhboy is describing is if the film were exposed, the vocals and the visuals were out of sync, and most of the movie was slightly out of frame. Or maybe even each scene is one take and then the next scene is filmed right after with no editing.

Nitpicking the details of the film might make it a bad story, but that's only one part of the movie.

I was definitely planning to get one this week when I went home for the weekend. #LeSigh

Superman dies after that. :(

But then he gets better through the power of friendship! :)

TalkBack / Re: Top 5 Remaining Smash Bros. DLC Character Predictions
« on: August 29, 2019, 06:06:42 PM »
That's one of the things that can make the last two characters hard to predict: the character/franchise still has to appear or have appeared on a Nintendo console, right?  I would also lean away from it being an FE character since the focus seems to be third party franchises with no current representation.  That being said, it could be Master Chief, and Halo could come to Switch, but who knows?  Doom Slayer seems more likely since Doom is already there.

Sakurai also likes to find characters with potentially interesting/unique movesets.  In Smash 4, Ryu had his original inputs, Bayo had her heel guns and witch time, and Cloud had his limit break.  In Ultimate, Joker and Hero have pretty unique playstyles, to say the least.  But I say all that to say, it could be Master Chief or Doom Slayer, but probably not both since those two might not be that different.  If you want uniqueness, Minecraft Steve could deliver, and he's already on Switch.

It's also the uniqueness that makes me rule out Travis Touchdown (:(), since he's a sword fighter who uses wrestling moves, and Sakurai probably got his wrestling fix with Incineroar.

This trailer really pushed me over the edge in terms of wanting to see the movie in theatres.  I was intrigued, but on the fence.  Thought the biggest thing for me was getting over the fact that it's decidedly not a typical comic book movie.  I think the first trailer was the reveal of that fact and this final one was the the "we're trying to make a genuinely good movie" trailer.

I actually liked the footage.  I thought it looked good and the ending was pretty surprising.

I see people posting the .gif oohhboy posted and it's either with a playful tone of "Lol, it's like a swiss army knife!" or a more angry "How dare they make a lightsaber that folds!!!".  Either way I think it makes sense she'd shift from a typical sword to something closer to the staff she had as her primary weapon her whole life.
