Actually the RROD happended because developers pushed the Xbox passed it's designed specs (175W was the supposed limit for fat xbox but certain games ran up to 200w).

For this generation the WII U really doesn't have to worry about heat--70w at full loadout while the xbox 1 is running around 120 and the ps4 is at 140w.  I really don't think heat is going be much of an issue unless developers try to "unlock" more power out of the systems.

===========

My biggest gripe is why stay with slot disc drives.  They tend to wear down to quick IMO compared to tray drives but I would love it if they went back to top-loaded systems--the less moving parts the better.

My current PS3 drive is dying (again) and this is going be the 2nd replacement I needed--granted it has over 2000+ hours of use easy but I still hate replacing them because the little plastic gears wear down.

Pokémon still hit the multimillion seller though (something like 3+ million) so I'm pretty sure Nintendo's extremely happy about it.

I recalled when NPD used to actually have a decent list of numbers available to the public but the way they list things now it's basically worthless now.  If you don't recall years ago they used to list the top 25 games for each system separate with sale numbers.  Nowadays you'll have to settle with "leaked" numbers :( .

I actually read the reviews and not just look at the score.  There's some things I can forgive that others can't but going by what was said about the game; it's humorless without an a lot of banter between the characters, stale gameplay since it only has a 3-hit combo that you learn from the beginning of the game.

I was actually looking forward to Knack the most out of the next-gen launch titles but those are some glaring flaws IMO for the type of game I expected it to be.

Zombiu (WII U) Used is going be on sale for $10 at Gamespot during their black Friday sale--also if you're planning on buying an new WII U bundle then you can get Super Mario Land WII U for $25.

Rayman Legends (WII U--new) is also going be $25 during BF at GS.

Reviews are finally coming in for Knack and Killzone 4.  Knack was blasted for being to simple/boring while KZ4 fared a bit better with stunning graphics with crappy story mode which is pretty much an trademark for the whole KZ franchise.

You could have sold your preorder PS4 for a little bit of profit--getting roughly $80 profit easy enough (that's after taxes and paypal fees.

"Wii U's $299 price point is going to look more and more attractive to the average parents?"

But the PS3/Xbox360 are still cheaper and still in demand.  I have annephew and his friends (8-9) and not one of them wants an WII U.  It's either games for current system (Minecraft very popular still) or they want an PS4/XBOX One.

Some of them wanted an 3DS and most of them didn't even know what a Vita was (lol--I had mine to show them).

Got the "good ending" even though I didn't even have the serum.  Actually funny thing was I died prior to even getting to the tower (ran into exploding zombie) so I didn't even have my equipment.  It was so messed up that I checked youtube to see what ending I received.

Man, about 2 restarts and two crashes I was finally able to finish the game and what an disappointed ending.  :(.

There was some fun to be had with this game but Ubisoft needs to patch this game (last patch was in March) and make an proper ending.

He only held something like 10-20% of Nintendo's stock.  You really don't need 50%+ to take control of a company since most shareholders don't bother to vote.

Game Breaking Glitches--Why on earth hasn't Ubisoft fixed some of these issues is beyond me.

Just started the game and made it to the supermarket (3rd mission in) and ending up wasting about two hours of my time just because I opened an door before I was suppose to?  WTF :(.  Not only did the game glitch occurred but it allowed me to *save* as well which meant that I had to file to fall back to.

Uh...The glitch was reported since basically launch and Ubisoft hasn't fixed it to this date.  Hating this game.

Actually It died quickly because of the "flippers".  The game trades in at $14 so for each copy these flippers bought netted them $5 and so some of them bought 50+ copies at a time.

Personally I hate flippers but it's not really their fault for wanting to earn a little extra cash but I really wish stores would limit how many copies one guy can buy.

TalkBack / Re: How Do Wii U's Sales Compare to Nintendo's Past Consoles?

"Nintendo does not have that luxury. From what division they gonna move money from?"

LOL?  Try the 20+ year warchest of something like 10+ billion dollars.  MS is just an giant but Sony's is in far worse shape than Nintendo--Sony's been bleeding money like made for the last 10 years or so in just about all their major devisions and they only reason they don't take larger losses (though they did take an 200 million loss just for the last quarter) is because they are selling assets.
Sony's the one that can't afford to waste money, one of the main reasons why you don't see more exclusive Vita games, so this PS4 could as well be the last console from them if it doesn't sell (which I doubt because I think it's going be the "king" of next generation).

Since so many people abused the buy 2 get 1 free game in the past my target changed their policy now and instead of having one game zeroed out like they did before--each game is marked down 1/3 of price so when you try to exchange the game later on you can only exchange it for an game of equal value.  Been that way for a few years now.

of course that varies by state/region but it's pretty much common now for most of the big retailers in my area (walmart/bestbuy/gamespot).

My titles for the week:

Metro: Last Light (360)--loved the first 3/4 of the game but then the story takes a dive in the wrong direction.  Still once in awhile an linear story driven fps is what I need and this filled the void.

Disney epic mickey castle of illusion  (3DS)--talk about disappointed.  Didn't have the Disney 'charm'.

Devil Survivor 2 (3DS)--kept dying due to cheap shots by the AI and overwhelming boss battles.  Wouldn't have minded so much if they just included an retry option but they don't.  :(

Ratchet and Clank All 4 One (PS3)--a lot of people bash this game as being the worst in the series but I enjoyed even though I played it offline with just the AI :(.  Captain Quark needs his own game.

That was at my local Target using a friends ID and CC info (10%off).  Basically the Black WII U was an "online return" item so it was marked down 30%.  I was just in the right place at the right time :0 usually I only see returned xbox 360's or ps3 this was the first time I seen an WII U and it was the only one.

The Black WII U is going to a friends kid, he asked me to buy one cheap for him.

But yeah, if you see an sticker that states "online return" at target there's usually an discount of some amount.

With the price discount and Zelda bundles the WII U sold decent last week.  Ended up getting the basic WII U unit myself (2nd hand for $180) and another Black/Nintendoland (new for $210 after employee discount and markdown (store return unopened).

Pokémon is selling like mad in Japan, freaking selling out in most retailers within the first few hours of availability and some stores didn't even have enough units to cover pre-orders?  Not sure what Nintendo was doing, but it sounds like the game undershipped which could be intentionally on Big N part to increase E-shop sales for the game?

The pre-order numbers in the states had Pokémon at 1/2 million mark, which reminds me I never finished an single Pokémon to date :( .

-------------
The Vita continues to sell poorly even with the new models coming out.  Had some pics of the "wait" line for the Vita 2000 but it was like 4-10 people in most lines.  Depressing.

TalkBack / Re: DLC Not Coming to Assassin's Creed IV on Wii U
« on: October 12, 2013, 12:33:24 PM »
The season pass isn't mentioned but it doesn't mean the game wouldn't get DLC as single packs anyhow--Injustice was the same way.    Usually they don't sell the Season pass on WII U because that would lock the developers into a "contract".  This way if ACIV sells well enough then the DLC can be added afterwords.

Damn both the Vita and the WII U have tanked the last couple of weeks.  Sony had so much going for the Vita and yet it all went to hell in a couple of years.  Doubt another price cut is going help anything, might as well wave the white flag and bend over.

1/10 the sales of Xbox or PS3 sales (5% of the market).  Even if they did make the ultimate edition for Wii U  no store would stock the game considering the original still on store shelves.

Fighters on handhelds really don't sell much, minus SFIV (mostly because it was an launch title that stood out) and you'll have to basically create an whole new game just to get it on the 3ds.

To be fair, I tend to get the ultimate editions but I usually wait for them to hit the bargain bin.

I would recommend a larger MC if you don't have one.  BestBuy is having an sale on the 32 GC card ($45, sale price of $65-$20 gamers club coupon--which is free to join).

If you plan to travel with it or just play at home?  I tend to DL fighters since they're the perfect game to carry with ya at all times since rounds are less than 2 minutes.  You can get Mortal Kombat, UMvC3, SFxT, DoA5U, ect pretty damn cheap.  I would start with MK9 since there's decent SP challenges and modes.

Paid around $157 awhile back (think 4 months now) but mine came with 16GB card and four games.  With PS+ and free games (think I have around 8 freebies) I found myself enjoying the Vita very much.
