Nintendo Gaming / Re: Help/Question about Wii U audio
« on: December 03, 2012, 10:23:38 PM »
If you're going use "headphones" then you're going have to plug them into the 3.5 jack that's on the gamepad itself if you're planning on using the mic anyhow.

As for your main speaker setup since you have an headphone output jack on your monitor you can buy one of these cables in case you reciever doesn't have have an 3.5mm input.

http://www.amazon.com/Dynex-Mini-Stereo-Audio-Cable/dp/B0032JAG4G/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354591304&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=3.5+mm+auduo+to+rca

Fairly cheap but they work.

Durango is supposed to have more cores though--6 to 8 meaning it's going be at least double the cores of the WII U.  Have to wait and see since rumored specs isn't another to go by.

"you never seem to have a comfortable amount"

LOL?  Ended up banking over 5 million since the merchants during my playthrough don't have anything worth buying  ::) .

Have to agree with you about the fetch quest--main story.  You play as DEATH but you end up as some lacky's gofer, if I was the developer I would have given Death the power over souls (someone not feeling very talkative--steal their soul and find out everything you'll need to know).

The later stages feel rushed--chests in plain view, easy to get to, and the level design is flat?  Wonder if they had multiple teams making stages because it surely feels that way.

Finally finished installing the game, takes GFWL forever and now there's hardly anyone online at all.  Two people which pings in the green for me and a couple more Europeans with pings in the 1 or 2 bars range--sigh.

Going try a couple more times tonight and see if the lobby improves.

Has anyone tried an USB GC controller adapter to see if it works?  WII U doesn't have GC ports but I wonder if it still has GC drivers at least?

That way when ESHOP--Gamecube games go on sale you'll still be able to play them with standard GC controllers.

Also anyone tried an USB Fight stick modded with an GC PBC board?  Kinda want to know since I'm already ordering an light kit for my fight stick and might as well figure out what options I have for the WII U.

"higher resolution like the dolphin emulator"

Yeah the dolphin is an emulator not a scaler and the reason games look much better is do to 8x Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, and high res texture packages.  It's more or less remastered similar to those Sony HD packs like GoW collection.  Texture swapage isn't to uncommon with PC titles, look at GTA 4 for example.

The WII U uses MSAA but sadly doesn't look like it's going be used in B/C games--who knows that might change.

?  Yes it does?

When ever the native resolution is changed into your TV's native resolution (namely 1080P) the image is upscaled.  Most modern day TV's already have an built in scaler but the WII u was tested with sets that didn't and the WII U still outputted the images at 1080P meaning it has a built in scaler.

Upscaling really doesn't do much other than smooth out some jaggies but it's barely noticeable to most people.  Back in the early days of HD, video scalers had "newer" fliters than TV sets so buying one did help but nowadays it's an waste of money.

Dont' think there's any native FULL HD on the WII U yet?  Everything is upscaled just like the other consoles.

Missed out of those Microsoft Store deals:  They had Tekken Tag 2 for $10. :(

Really didn't spend much this year myself since I still have a boatload of backlog games from last year's deals.

This year's booty:
Left for Dead 2 (PC since all the DLC packs are free anyhow) $5 from steam.
Starcraft 2 $20 (PC--Battle.net sale)
Trine 2 Expansion Globin King $4 (PC steam sale, in fact you can get the entire series for $8).
Mass Effect 3 Leviathan $5 (360--XBL sale)
Batman Arkham City Harvey Quinn Revenage $5 (360--XBL sale)

Total $40 for 2 games and three expansions.

Going head to Target today, hopefully they have more MS point cards (they ended up selling 1600 point cards for $10).

Nintendo Gaming / Re: how are the Darksiders 2, Batman and BLOPS 2 ports?
« on: November 23, 2012, 03:22:20 PM »
There's not much wrong with the ports other than a few spots in game where the framerate suffers but that might be addressed with patches (think COD alreay has one or will be out shortly).

The only real gripe is the pricing.  DSII and B AC can be found cheaper on other consoles sub-$25 vs $60 WIIU and with CoD it's the MP limited player count (less than 500 players vs 100,000+).  If you only have an WII U then by all means buy those games but if you "can" wait for anther 2-3 months those games should be 1/2 off I'm guessing.

PC would win hands down--the only version of AC3 that has tessellation enabled.  The WII U has an tessellation unit (according to the specs) but I don't see any game using it.

Tessellations makes everything more "3d"ish so you'll notice stuff like cloth and objects stick out more.

Not official but on the back of Rabbits Land case cover it lists (DD) for supported sound?  Not sure if it's an misprint or what but that's one question someone should ask nintendo *cough*NWR*cough*.

DD would help me since I really don't plan on buying another reciever for PCM 5.1 and my headphones only have DD 5.1 support anyhow.

There's going be an youtube video of WII U's unboxing tommorrow and a couple of games.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance]
« on: November 02, 2012, 08:56:48 AM »
Finally gotten around to starting the game and I'm running into issues.  First off I don't own an CCP (I have the Nyko Power Grip Pro ordered but they keep delaying shipment for some reason or another) so I'm running into camera issues right off the back.

The game uses an targetting system similar to other Kingdom Hearts games but the range/break is a freaking joke.

Also the spirts AI is a bit dimwitted to say the least.  I set up my pets to "cure" my character but it's an hit or miss on that regard.  When I'm at 90% health it'll heal me but when I'm down to my last 10% health it sits there like an log.  Also notice the AI gets stuck on objects way to much.  It's to bad you can't set what commands they can do and what order (think Gambit system FFXII).

---------------------------------------

A few things they should/could have changed:
1.) clean up the screen--since the 3DS has dual screens you shouldn't have your health icons ect blocking your VIEW.
2.) have somesort of warning system (spidersense) in place to block "back" attacks.  The camera is zoomed so close to your main characters that you can't see any attack coming for behind.  Either zoom the camera out or give me an warning.

Opps?  Nintendo didn't stress the new system instead they refer it to as WII U.  Casual parents wouldn't know that that WII U means new system all they would see in an Tablet controller?

The UK one was a bit better IMO in showcasing the system and the games.  The NoA has way to much going on and it's short compared to the 2 1/2 minutes one that was in Europe.  It's confusing to the casuals IMO.

TalkBack / Re: 3DS Remake of Dragon Quest VII Announced and Dated
« on: November 01, 2012, 09:40:50 PM »
Yeah, even when DQVII was released on the PS it wasn't all that popular  in NA (avg score was something like 6 or 7).  Persoanlly I loved DQVIII and the only thing they would have to change would be the combat system (it's ole-school and way to grind-heavy vs skill or tatics).

Of course it's a matter of time before we see DQVIII remake.

Not sure if we'll ever see "remakes of 9 or X"--they are focused on MP and you rarely see MP games being remade and the few that do sell poorly anyhow (Halo1 for example).

Finally gotten around to finishing the game.  (I was at 50 hour mark with tons of side quests skipped).  Overall it's solid but there's a few major flaws.  The biggest gripe (or at least for me) was all the backtracking you have to do.  You have to go back and forth between towns way to much (you do get an teleport option but that's latter in the game).  Also I wish there's some sort of log book for sidequests and the option about abandoning them if you proceed in story (as you progress through the story mode certain side quests become blocked which annoys me to no end).

It's a very long game so there's not many that'll end up finishing it but I loved even though it was my second playthrough.

"but is there a way to format half the HD so it can also be used for the Wii U?"  Yes, there's free tools on the net but Nintendo hasn't stated what format you'll need.  The PS3/Xbox has their own formatting tools installed for their internal Drives and Nintendo mgiht have it's own for it's USB?

TT2 for the 360 is an 8GB install but the PS3 versions is 17GB (like the WIIU) so I'm guessing it's uncompressed textures/audio that makes the difference?

You can select what your AI is doing though?  If they are mage by default then switch them to melee (swords) through the command menu.  Once you do this they will continue to use melee until end of the battle.

Nintendo's been updating the trademark (ownership of the title) but I believe SK owns the IP for the characters/locations/ect.  So all SK would have to do was rename the game.

"tellectual Property Rights

Nintendo owns intellectual property rights in its products. These include copyrights, trademarks, and patents.

Guess since you never played the series so you wouldn't know but PL has tons of hint coins and even if you were stuck you can just keep guessing until you get the right answer.  The only thing getting the wrong answer does it take about (award coins) which is used to buy unlockables.

What pisses me off is the few questions that get lost in translation, so in other words--broken questions where you have the right answer yet the game continues to tell you differently.  There's always 2-3 of these (out of a 100+ puzzles) that drive me nuts.

It was something like Skype (video-chat software) which was shown at E3.  It's more or less an 1 on 1 chat-session though so it wouldn't work in something like COD all that well--but 1 on 1 co-op missions would be easy enough.

You could just use an blue tooth wireless headset ;0.  PDP-Afterglow 2.0 is one but I believe older sets will works just as well.  "although there is no confirmation as to the extent of its compatibility."  It's written on the box :)

It uses an usb transmitter for mic support (still has 3/4 jack for MS though) so I'm taking a wild leap and say that most older "wireless" headsets that work with the PS3 should work as well.

Finally gotten my first Streetpasser (50K steps and two mall visits later), for awhile there I thought my 3ds was broken since I wasn't getting any hits, turns out my area is just plain dead when it comes to mobile gaming--well I wouldn't say dead but most people/even kids seem to be on mobile phones or tablets.  :(  Doesn't look like I'm going get any "hats" anytime soon.

I'm planning on taking it with me during Black Friday and usually there's a couple of nintendo gamers in line with me.  Come to think about it I might do that for the WII U launch as well.

You clearly didn't play NG3, it was total overkill with QTE, bosses had them, cutscenes, even basic enemy fights, and yes even the platform selections.

Ninja Gaiden didn't have any prior to 3 and I'm not sure about the entire series of DMC since I skipped 2 but they didnt' have any either and the new one DMC is stated not to have any neither.

The only one you got right was the God of War series which has them during cutscenes, boss battles, and chests.  It's not as bad as NG3.  Ninja Blade is about the only other action game that abused the QTE more than NG3 though in NB defence it's QTE was a bit more interesting since if you missed it "continued" on anyhow with NG3 if you miss you'll end up repeating it over and over.
