Last year my excitement for the wii u was dropping a bit. Not on a games level, as I can always count on Nintendo to make games I want.   More on a technology level.    I was kinda afraid the hardware might be a bit more phoned in.

With all the hub bub being said the past few months, about how the new dev kits are more beefy. Also with all the positive impressions from people who are kinda..  Well.. I would say more neutral when it comes to Nintendo hype.  These have really helped alleviate those worries.

Not that I was or am expecting the wii u to be some kinda monster hardware.  I'm just glad to hear some positive things coming from people who have experience working with hardware, and hearing good results of nintendo listening to feed back from developers.   Overall it just makes me feel a bit more comfortable.

So I bought this yesterday shortly after my post.  Let it background download till late last night.   Was just about to watch Walking Dead on the dvr and pulled it out.  Big mistake.  I forgot about the tv and didn't watch it for about an hour and half.

Made the other mistake of turning it on in bed, needless to say it was another hour or so before I got to sleep.

Quite the fun little game.   The friend leader boards are really nice too.   Loading can take a tiny bit long for the levels, but you only have to load once.    Still really awesome little game.

Side note.. Some of you people on my friends list...  Were one of your parents part pinball machine?  Seriously!?  I'm not naming names, but yah you know who you are.

The fact that this game keeps getting brought up on connectivity and RFN podcast occasionally keeps making me almost break down to buy it.  My friends list is pretty full too, so that just makes it even more tempting to break down and get it.  Cause I think a few have it too.

Gotta say more developers though should include friends leader boards and such.  That can be a really tempting way to drive sales.  I'm not even a competitive gamer, but those are always fun to play with cause they give you goals.

Gotta say I'm more excited about this than having them work on a home console.  Sadly lately I just don't invest too much time in long scale rpg's and games on my consoles too much. It's usually either my handheld or my pc.

So hearing this news is pretty exciting for me.

Pretty sure you have to touch screen in the system menu for setup though.. Today when traveling I took my 3ds and had to manually set up each wifi connection since it didn't automatically pick them up.  Everytime I went into the internet settings I had to use touch screen.  I could be wrong though.   I think there are places in the E-Shop that also do this to me.

I've had the money set aside for a vita since before it was even called vita.  Still planning on getting mine next week along with uncharted.  Especially since I had an early preorder of uncharted for 40$.  Still I'm not going to get all negative on sony about forcing touch when nintendo constantly does it to me also.  Every time I go into the systems menu or something having to switch between buttons then to touch.   I've just gotten used to it I guess.

Was a big fan of the series on pc.  Was really kinda looking forward to this, if it was a decent version.   Hopefully it will come out sooner or later.  As I would like a portable edition of the game.

« on: January 21, 2012, 03:54:32 PM »
The RE demo was pretty nice.   While I am not going to get it at release, it pretty much cemented me getting it at some point.

Funny how I totally went old person while playing it..  Switched to first person and was looking around.  Thinking how far games have come.  Thinking how I can see the detail on the face of the clock setting on a dresser, and I am carrying this game around in my pocket.  When I think about all the progression games have made since playing my atari and nes with my father and sister..  Sometimes it just blows my mind.

- Super Mario 3D Land 2.

Instead of this or in addition to it they should make Wario Land 3D, because the original Wario Land on the Gameboy was actually the 3rd Mario Land game.

Oh I'm not saying I particularly want it.  Just that I think it will be announced.  Honestly if I could have any game in a Mario type series, I personally would want to go back to something more explorative and open like Mario 64.

I loved super Mario 3d Land, it just wouldn't be my first pick to have a sequel to.

:)  I just think they will though.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Animal Crossing 3ds and DLC
« on: January 18, 2012, 06:59:26 PM »
There is a chance the DLC might be free too.    I'm just glad to hear the game might get some fair support after release.  While it might be something small just like new items or furniture.  I can't help but to hope that they might do even more.

A really neat DLC might be a small island.  Bigger than the one from the gamecube/gba link.  Where you could get a second house and possibly even exclusive items or shops there.   Make like a vacation house.  That could just be wishful thinking, but if the game was designed to allow such expansions after release, would be really nice.  At least in my opinion. :)

Nintendo Gaming / Animal Crossing 3ds and DLC
« on: January 18, 2012, 05:02:52 PM »
So screwattack is reporting that Animal Crossing 3ds Will be supported post launch with DLC

www.screwattack.com/news/japan-animal-crossing-3ds-will-receive-dlc-down-line

Which I guess originates with this page now with google translate.

http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamememo.com%2F2012%2F01%2F09%2Fdoubutu-no-mori-3ds-natu%2F

With this news  (If it is true.) I am kinda curious of what most peoples opinions are.

Personally as long as the content is decent and the price isn't outlandish  I can't think of a game more suited to occasional DLC content than Animal Crossing.  So I am okay as long as the content is good.  How does everyone else feel?

Even though I know we all love Swapnote,
I thought I should make a list of some improvements that could be made to make it even better.

1: Re-Note / Re-Swap (retweet) - the ability to pass on a message that you received so that you can share it with the other 99 people on your Friends list.
-You can only send a message to the 100 people on your friends list. But you can only reply to the messages that you receive. What if you get a really good message that you want to share with a community much larger than the 100 people that person originally sent it too? I shouldn't have to re-create it, and the originator shouldn't have to shuffle their friends list to make it happen either.

2. Color or Shades of Grey
- It would be nice to add detail to some drawing by using color or a few shades of grey at the very least.

3. More ink per post.
-Not sure I really need 3000 swapnotes, but longer & more detailed ones wouldn't be so bad. So if they sacrificed the ability to store 3000 down to 2000 to allow me double the ink space and an extra page or 2, then I think I would prefer that.

4. Animation Frames
-I'm not talking about full on animated notes, but watching a swapnote is already sort of like watching a story unfold where you can reveal certain things by drawing them last. So it would be nice if you could time your drawing to play out at a certain speed, maybe sync an included sound with that specific portion and allow you to change certain pieces of the drawing while the note plays.

i.e. I draw a happy face man. then I reveal something that surprises him, like a cake being thrown. his facial features change to a surprised look all on the same note page.

5. Multiple pics per note.
As in 1 per page for those of us that can't draw or would rather communicate through pictures.

6. Short video clip in place of a picture(s)
a short 3-5 second video clip could be placed in a note

7. Different Pencil Selections
- Maybe the option to select a thinner pencil and a thicker pencil than the default one provided. This will allow you to maybe add some fine detail lines or thicker outlines to the things you want to add them to.

Anyone else have something to add that they would like to see in a future update or newer version of Swapnote.

Wow those are some good ideas.   Hopefully over time Nintendo will expand it a little like they did with find me mini games.   The renote or retweet and animation would be especially appreciated.

I know today I have to spend a good amount of time in a hospital waiting room.. If all goes well like it should, I might go in and read all my swap notes I've been saving for the past few days to pass the time.    Really a nice little app for things like that.

114
I'm kinda impressed by the app.  For some reason when I imagined it in my head I thought of it more as a simple tiny note sending program where knowing Nintendo we were only going to be allowed to send a single message to a single person.

I was kinda taken back when I saw you could send to all your friends or select ones.  Not to mention the kinda reply function for replying to notes.    Overall I am quite impressed with it.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: RUMOR: 3DS GBA Ambassador Games Announced?
« on: December 14, 2011, 02:46:40 PM »
If all these come to America too, that is a pretty good list.   This would actually be my first Fire Emblem game.
I'm pretty pleased that there are a few titles there I never got a chance to play before.

116
I really hope what Retro is working on, is something that they want.   They seem to be really talented, and I get the feeling if it's something they want to do, they will put a lot of passion into it.

I'm not so sure how I feel about them going back to another Nintendo Franchise.   In some ways I kinda wonder what would happen if they did an original game, or even branched out and did an exclusive game for Nintendo but with another companies license.    Kinda like Factor 5 did with Rogue Squadron.

I'm really letting myself get too excited for this game.  I spent so much time in Wild World, really been itching to have more portable Animal Crossing.   I like the ideas of customization with street lights and such.  I wonder just how much choice and options we will have with them.

It also kinda gives me hope that maybe there are some other changes that haven't been revealed yet too.  With the whole community thing they are putting into Mario Kart, that might make an interesting addition to Animal Crossing.  Just really looking forward to having this on my 3DS.

Looks like a lot of fun.. Sadly I have already decided to hold off on Mario Kart and Mario Land.  Someone wanted a few ideas for Christmas presents for me and I listed them, mostly cause I thought it would make for easy things to find.  Hopefully I will join in with the fun after the holidays.

One of Amazons deals today is some discounted 3DS games. Asphalt 3D, Bust-a-Move Universe and Super Monkey ball 3D are all 9.99, if anyone is looking to get any of these titles.  Believe this is a one day deal.

Figured I should throw this link in too.    Buy one, get one 40% off select DS and 3DS titles at Amazon.  Not sure how long this deal lasts.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: How do you clean your 3DS?
« on: November 13, 2011, 06:29:35 AM »
I used a little microfiber cloth the first time I cleaned it, came with a free accessory kit I got.  Since then I have had a screen protector on both screens, so I just use a slightly damp washcloth.  Usually start in the middle of the screen and work my way out, so that any moisture on the cloth doesn't get forced behind the screen protectors.   Then I just clean the rest normally. :)

I would love a new overhead, or 3d portable zelda.   In fact as long as its not touch based I want it.  I never finished spirit tracks, I just got too burned out on touch screen controls for the series.   Kinda shames me to say that as a zelda fan, but I just ran out of steam on it.

Probably won't see it, but I would love a sprite based Zelda ala Link to the Past.   In 3D with multiple layers, to me that would be just gorgeous to play through.

122
The Ice White one looks pretty good.   I hope the bundle comes to America.  I've got a friend or two that are interested in getting a 3ds, but still haven't.   That might be enough to drive them to it, since the new Mario game has been tempting them.

You can capture every pokemon that ever existed in Black and White.

I did not know this..   Thank you for the correction. :)   Learn something new everyday.    I must have picked up the wrong impression of it somewhere.

I keep telling myself each time a new pokemon game comes out that I will get it.   Then I don't.    I haven't played one since the original red.   Given what I have seen of the pokedex on 3ds though.. I hope whatever next version comes out, brings some of the original pokemon back.   That would probably tempt me into a purchase.  I just kinda want to get one eventually to see the what has been improved upon in the series.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Super Mario Galaxy 3
« on: October 12, 2011, 09:10:24 AM »
I hope not, while I love the Galaxy games, it is probably time for Nintendo to try something new with the series. Heck I wouldn't even mind a game designed like the original Mario 64, or a follow up to Sunshine. But that is unlikely since Nintendo does like mixing things up with the 3D Mario's, which, in the long run is a good thing.

I kinda agree with this.. Although I really do hope to see a mario game return to 64 or sunshine form.   I really loved the exploration aspect.   The castle hub on Nintendo 64 was an amazing place to explore for the first time.  While today it doesn't quite carry the same marvel, back then it was amazing.

I would love to have that sense of exploration back.  I didn't quite get that from Galaxies. While I loved them and had a blast, I never had that sense of  "Whoa I didn't know I could go through here and find this area!"
With modern technology especially with what the Wii U might be packing.. I would love to see the castle return as a hub world, and perhaps even the surrounding areas included.

They could still work in some Galaxy type crazy levels, while still having a bit of classical exploration.  Want to do a level based on a giant cake or running about on giant food?   Put the level in a little bakery shop just outside the castle in a small town.   Go back to crazy space worlds?  Put some levels in the observatory.

Suppose I am just wish full thinking, but I really would love to see that sense of over world exploration and some exploration brought back into some of the level's.   Not like Galaxy was without exploration, it just didn't feel quite the same to me.  Of course that's just my personal opinion. :)
