I wonder how data tranfers will go when the Wii 2 is out.  Will Nintendo still bother to assist you?

I am sitting here with every Ace Attorney game to hit the DS, and they're telling me that they're not doing any more?

Well, they could do what some others are doing and releasing it as a 3DS title.

....does this mean that we're not going to see Phoenix Wright vs. Prof. Layton either?

In my eyes, the Wii is done.

TalkBack / Re: Kensuke Tanabe Wants More Developers Like Retro Studios
« on: April 11, 2011, 09:09:40 PM »
The Wii is one of my least favorite Nintendo consoles, and in no doubt, makes me feel that Nintendo's net console will be disappointing in some way, compared to Sony's and Microsoft's offerings on their consoles (including third party support).
It seems that most of the third party game companies that matter to the long-time gamer did not want anything to do with Nintendo 64, Gamecube, or the Wii.

It's easy to see that Nintendo's next home console will suffer the same way, and I don't think I'll want another console like that again.

To combat this, Nintendo NEEDS more development studios.

An interesting read, Nathan.  It's nice to know that you had fun, and it can be fun for those who haven't seen the shows or movies.
Nice review.

TalkBack / Re: Natsume Reveals the Best-Selling Harvest Moon Game
« on: April 02, 2011, 08:01:07 PM »

(I'm not counting spin-off titles, like Rune Factory)

Best selling: Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life ...supposedly

It may be because it was the next Harvest Moon game to come for Nintendo home console gamers after Harvest Moon 64, and was the first 3D HM game on a Nintendo console.
It may also be because that people played Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland on PS2 and were disappointed.  I was one of them, and thought that A Wonderful Life was going to be THE 3D Harvest Moon game that gets it right.
:(

Best Grahpics: Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (without a doubt)

It makes me wonder why doesn't the Wii games look as good, or better.
Then I look at the rest of the Wii game library, and can see that most of everyone who develops for the Wii just doesn't try as hard to please those attracted to nice graphics.

Best Music: Harvest Moon: Magical Melody (Gamecube Version)
My personal opinion.  While the other games will have you hum a tune all season long, Magical Melody actually have more of its tunes in my head that I actually love. (I can also play them on piano and bass guitar.)

Worst in the series: Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (read below), Followed by Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland.

Best in the series: Harvest Moon: Harvest Moon: Animal Parade, Followed by Harvest Moon: Magical Melody (This is REALLY close to a tie, in my opinoin.)

Magical Melody and Animal Parade felt the most complete, with everything that you would normally find in a Harvest Moon game, and more.  A Wonderful Life was an empty shell of it all.

Animal Parade is a much-improved, updated version of Tree of Tranquility, and the largest of all Harvest Moon games.
Here are some of what makes Animal Parade better than Tree of Tranquiliy:
-Larger cast of characters
-More side quests
-Seed sowing is easier (no longer forced to do 1x6)
-More marriage candidates (with 4 more than Tree of Tranquilty: Witch, Wizard, Harvest Goddess, and the Harvest King).

-Can have TWO children (can be either boy or girl)
-Better pets system
-More clothes and accessories to buy (you can even buy stuff for your kids)
-More character interactions with everyone, including more cutscenes

-You can now carry around small animals that you own. (this coudn't be done Tree of Tranquility for some stupid reason.)
-There's much more to be seen.  Even subtle ones make a difference

Now.....as for that turd, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life:
-No Fesitvals
-Not much at all to buy, which makes farming/ranching almost a complete waste of time and energy.  Even house upgrades are automatic.
-Only 3 girls to woo, and you're forced to marry by the first year's end.....or it's GAME OVER.  No wedding. No Rivals.
-No seasonal songs (can only hear BGM in people's houses and from the records you play on your farm)

-No special goals.  There really isn't a reason to play.  I wanted to give up part-way through chapter 2.  By the time I got to chapter 3, I was just sleeping without doing anything with my farm and animals.
-The bum won't leave!  Moi.
-No Harvest Goddess (she'd dead.)
-Another Wonderful Life isn't much better (you play as a girl).

When Magical Melody was released on Gamecube, it was a TOTALLY DIFFERENT STORY!!
-Lots of villagers with character who can move in/move out depending on what you do
-Can have multiple houses/barns
-Can own multiple pieces of land
-More people to marry
-AWESOME MUSIC
-GOALS!  You have a reason to actually continue playing the game once you've started
-Achievement System to awaken the Harvest Goddess.  Stuff like, ship X amount of crops, stand in the rain for X amount of hours, catch X fish, get X amount of steps on your pedometer, etc.
-A rival who's ranch is always in competition with yours
-You can marry your Rival (who's always the opposite gender as you), but....
-The return of festivals!
-While everything in the game is 3D, the gameplay is that of your traditional 2D Harvest Moon game.

After playing Animal Parade and Magical Melody, you'd NEVER want to ever want to play A Wonderful Life EVER again.

Yep, another inferior game on the Wii.  No surprise there.

In the past, every WWE game on PS2 came out better-looking than the Wii versions.  I wonder if it's still true for this game.
I'm still waiting for a Nintendo home console that 3rd party companies will actually take seriously...at least as even as the Microsoft's and Sony's.

I can't wait!
I won't be able to go, but I am looking foward to your quirkiness on video, and on my mp3 player.

OOOOOOOHHHH HECK YEAH!!!

Frickin Sega of all folks to do it first on a Nintendo console.

I thought there were emulators on PC that allowed NES and NES games to go online too.

This looks really good (I really like these types of games).  I may have to put some cash on the side to build up for a while.
Maybe I'll be able to get it sometime when it launches.  It looks to be one of my first purchases for DS in 2011.

TalkBack / Re: Samus to Appear in DOA Dimensions
« on: January 20, 2011, 11:41:56 AM »
Samus in DOA = sales
So let's do it!
It's not going to crush anyone's dream image of Samus.  Other M took care of that already.

Sakamoto's Other M was a throwback title for HIM.
Everyone else wanted a game with the style of Super Metroid/Fusion.

Sakamoto's selfishness hurt the game.

-Where the heck was classic controller support?

-D-pad for 3D control?? Are you nuts?

-First-person mode could have easlily been made to a button.  Then joystick would controls the on-screen reticle.  We have this is games called "First-Person Shooters", Sakamoto.

-Samus's voice acting and story didn't kill anything for me, but they really could have done a better job.  This isn't 1997.  The PSOne was full of that crap.  Still, the actress only did what she was hired to do.  It wasn't her fault.

I'm fine with Samus being in DOA.
You know, I'm actually okay with her being jiggly/bouncy in her skin-tight zero suit (if used).

There is a slider to adjust how much depth you want to put on your screen.

B.S.

Kiss My Butt, Nintendo!
Being Region-Free was why I love the Gameboy consoles and my DS!!

Unless they're commited to releasing all games from all regions to every part of the world, then they shouldn't have done this to the 3DS.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but now I'm rooting for hackers to find a solution.
I DON'T want to have to buy another expensive 3DS just to play Japanese and European games!

TalkBack / Re: Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes Review
« on: January 18, 2011, 11:41:47 AM »
Sengoku Basara is a definite improvement over Samurai Warriors 3.
I find it funny how Capcom has overthrown Koei as 'King of Mindless Repetitive, But Still Somewhat Addicting Beat-Em-Ups'.

Capcom's Devil Kings/Sengoku Basara on PS2 was a sign for Koei to start doing something to improve, but it seems that they're a stubborn little company.
Those who may have passed off on Samurai Warriors 3 should look at Sengoku Basara.

TalkBack / Re: WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 Review
« on: January 18, 2011, 11:36:33 AM »
Unfortunately, this is a straight PS2 port, and features none of the extras found in the Xbox360/PS3 versions, like online play, the new upgraded Create-A-Wrestler mode, the ability to edit featured WWE Superstars, and the ability to trade online, including unlocking (purchasing new wrestlers and clothing).

The Wii version is actually visually inferior to the PS2 version with bad lighting, pixelated videos (including what's on the Titantron during a wrestler's entrance).
The Wii version also have glitchy animations that haven't been fixed in years (that are also not present in the PS2 version).  Plus, the PS2 and Wii versions share some of the same character models from years past.

I know it's not good to to this, but if you compare the HD console versions to what the Wii has, you can definitely see where all of the team's time and effort went into.  Yes the Wii game looks, you're mostly looking at work that's been complete since 2008, and even earlier (since they're ports from PS2).

If there's a PS2 version of WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2012 this year, it'll most likely be a straight port.  They're not bad wrestling games, but they could've been better.

I didn't know if I should pick this one up or not, seeing that my auntie already owns the first Monopoly game on Wii.

I guess I'll skip this one.

Thank you for the review, Matt.

Whichever game wins, it'll be fun to play, and interesting to hear the podcast members' thoughts of it.
