I enjoyed the hell out of Runner, having downloaded it after hearing Jonny and Greg praise it on RFN. The design of that game really appealed to me, though. Going to wait and hear what this one is all about.

Sure, though is it wrong to wish that this was an announcement that they were bringing Duck Tales, C&D Rescue Rangers, and Aladdin to the VC instead?  :-\

Meanwhile, the only collection of console Capcom games that have been released recently are the Mega Man and Mega Man X collections. It would be nice if instead of releasing the same games they have made available countless times, they would dig into their more obscure games that you can't get on anything other than their original console.

You know, like Demon's Crest or Gargoyle's Quest 2.

I wouldn't think it wrong to wish for any such games to appear on the VC because they are all excellent games. Foolish to wish for these games, however, would be another story.

I really don't see why it is unfathomable to think that games like Ducktales, Aladdin, or even The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse could appear on the virtual console (besides, of course, pure apathy from the likes of Nintendo and/or Capcom). These games aren't particularly marred in red tape, since I imagine Disney is the only rights-holder that Capcom would need to work with (aside from Nintendo).

HOLY F%*$! Virtual Console Arcade releases!?

At the very least, it's a good sign that Capcom is releasing downloadable titles on the Wii.

The version of Earthworm Jim that is available on Virtual Console is the Sega Genesis version and not the SNES one.

I'm still interested in the Wii version, primarily due to the fact that I own neither a 360 or PS3.

I dropped by the local Future Shop in my area this morning, but it turns out not a single one of their stores received any copies of the game, and they are a pretty big retailer.

I don't think there'll be a size problem for GBA games if they ever come to Virtual Handheld. They've already released the GBA versions of Earthworm Jim and Rayman 2 on DSiWare and managed to add features. Anyone know how much fridge space these take up on the DSi?

From what I understand, Shaymin, Earthworm Jim for DSi was a version made specifically for that platform (including iPhone and iPod touch versions). Not sure about Rayman 2 though...

On another note, the Newscast is fantastic, guys. I look forward to it every week. Keep it up.

And Nathan, are you compressing the podcasts differently than they were being compressed before? Or something else significantly different? Whenever I have tried to play the last two episodes using my iPod (downloaded via the iTunes stream), I get 5 seconds in and then my iPod restarts. Haven't had this happen with any other podcasts... odd hey?

...and, hey, speaking of, I love that stage's music. If they have only a couple older songs, that should be one of them.

Stickerbrush Symphony is a contender for one of my favourite songs found in a video game. I love the version in SSBB, too, and often play that annoying Rumble Falls stage just to hear it. Incidentally, it was a long time before I actually recognized the track, yet I always felt that there was something familiar about it.

Mario Party 2 on Virtual Console? Has the original Mario Party even been released on VC? It certainly hasn't been in North America.

I own a cartridge of the original and would definitely pick up the sequel on VC if it were made available.

Whether or not TJ Spyke turns out to be correct, I'd definitely say that there is probable cause for worry. If NBA Jam were still being released on the day that NBA Elite 11 was supposed to drop, I wouldn't think twice. However, it's being delayed, and there is likely a reason for that delay.

I think the worse part of this situation is the broken promises. Does it really matter whether or not that this game is a Wii exclusive? No. What matters most is that Wii owners will be able to play this game.

However, this BS that EA had been feeding Wii owners ever since the announcement of this game had me thinking that they actually cared about Nintendo's system and its gamers more than other companies. Clearly, I was mistaken.

At this point, I would actually be much more excited about this game if it had originally been planned for 360 and PS3, and THEN announced to be coming to Wii, because I would be happy to be getting a version that I could play. That might make me feel that EA actually cared. Instead, I get a broken promise of "exclusivity," a conspicuous absence of an online mode, and price that is yet to be determined. (And at this point I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same as the HD versions) But like I said, none of that matters. I still get NBA Jam. What I don't get are any warm, fuzzy feelings towards EA, despite the opportunities they had to foster them.

Wow, what mismanagement.

I also just downloaded Dark Void Zero from the App store last night.

I know I am a bit late, but I finally got a chance to put in several more hours in the game and so far I am really enjoying the story. It is a fun story, fantastic, nah, but it is entertaining with some iffy dialogue. So far no problem with how they've portrayed Samus, the only part that bothered me a bit was the encounter with Ridley, besides that she is still a strong woman character with human flaws.

The gameplay is fantastic though, I LOVE the boss fights for the most part, and it is great to have so many.

Glad to hear that someone else is enjoying the story. Sure it's not the greatest, but it kept me playing to see what was going to happen next.

The dialogue... Ya, it's really the only thing that I was disappointed with. In particular, Samus's. I'm not one of those people who think Other M ruined her "previously established" character, but I pictured her as terse. That's not to say she shouldn't speak, but that when she does, she doesn't mince words. She has pretty much eradicated entire species, after all.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii Remote Plus?

Is there room for improvement with the CC Pro?

Not sure. Never used one myself. I probably would own one if I hadn't previously purchased the original Classic Controller, which I have only ever used for VC SNES games.

I suppose Nintendo could always work their magic and remove the need to plug it into a Wii remote.

I am tempted to run out and sell my current Wii remotes and Wii Motion Plus accessories RIGHT NOW in order to get top dollar value so that I can replace them with these new Wii Motion Plus integrated remotes. They're just so convenient!

Nintendo sure has had a rough go with the design of their controllers this console cycle. This is, in a way, the third iteration of the Wii remote -- it may not add anything new, but it's an improvement on the overall design. The classic controller also had to be improved with the Pro.

Games that are harder entirely because the controls are awkward or irresponsive are crap.  That's just piss poor design.

If you think games like Wario Land: Shake It! and New Super Mario Bros. Wii are actually harder because of their controls, then you are stubbornly clinging to the past way too much. Either that or your Wii remote needs replacing. The controls in both of these games were sublime. The shake and tilt mechanics add that little extra bit of tactile feedback that engages you just a little more than a simple button press. These are new ways to play these games, and they work incredibly well. Rarely, if at all, did I find them cumbersome or to artificially increase the difficulty. It's a great medium between traditional button controls and "waggle", and I hope that future 2-D platformers continue down this same path (as long as it continues to be implemented as effectively). Case in point: If Donkey Kong Country Returns can be played with the Wii remote held sideways, I sure hope I can give it a shake to slap the ground.

JRPGs have been steadily drifting towards Sci-Fi over the years (Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, etc.), and they have been doing fine.

I just don't think Metroid is the type of sci-fi Japan is generally interested in, at least when I think about the other sci-fi related things I have seen come out of Japan. But perhaps they like it more than I realize.

The second half of your post is very intriguing...

Can anyone offer some insight as to what it is about Metroid that it has never been popular in Japan? Is it because of the exploration, or the shooting, or that it stars a female, or the strange title, or what?

It might be easier to narrow down a possible explanation if we look at how the more recent Castlevania games have performed in Japan. If good, then we can probably rule out the exploration and, in the case of Order of Ecclesia, the female lead aspect.

I think it might be the sci-fi element, which I would consider to have more of a western association.

recently went through both Banjo games on XBLA (had both for 64, as well) and I gotta say that Kazooie is miles better than Tooie.  Tooie has too much running from point A to point B with nothing to do because the levels border on being way too big, in my opinion.  The one case of bigger not being better.

I have to agree with you, jimwood27. I bought a copy of Banjo-Tooie earlier this year and played through the game in its entirety during July, and while the game design itself is thoroughly fun, I experienced tedium that I have not felt for years. Contrary to what James said during the podcast, I also found the levels to be far too big, and their design to be quite convoluted. Banjo-Kazooie's levels were smaller and tighter, with much less running from point A to point B. I also found the running itself to be quite slow -- even when using the talon trot -- as opposed to something like Super Mario Galaxy, where the speed of Mario makes everything feel smaller in comparison. Perhaps the game runs faster on XBLA?

Speaking of which, how the hell can someone be on the seventh level after only playing for 7 hours? I really hope that time doesn't include collecting everything in each level...

I think they would have been a lot better if there were half as many as there are; having 120 feels so forced.

If you were talking about Super Mario Sunshine or the original Super Mario Galaxy, I would agree with you. However, I think Galaxy 2 is the first 3-D Mario game since Super Mario 64 where I wasn't exhausted by the process of collecting all 120, let alone 242.

Hell, I enjoyed it so much that I actually went back to Super Mario Galaxy and played through the game to completion as Luigi, something that I never thought I would do.
