TalkBack / Re: Rayman Legends Devs Protesting Delay

Can you imagine what would happen if the game were leaked during this delay?

They seem to have some pretty disgruntled developers over there...

Anywho EA announced no Tiger  Woods Golf for the Wii U. Between this and Madden something is truly up.

Personally, I really don't give two craps about EA. The only interest I have in what they are selling is the NHL series. I suppose if they ever reacquired the MLB license, I'd also be interested in MVP Baseball. If Battlefield were ever released on the Wii U, I might check that out. In all honesty though, I've always thought of EA as a rather boring company.

Nintendo Gaming / New Game from Monolith Soft - "X"
« on: January 23, 2013, 09:41:22 AM »
Today's Nintendo Direct offered a glimpse of Monolith's next title on the Wii U. Share your impressions!

1. I assume Xenoblade Chronicles sold well enough in the west.
2. It sounds like it's going to have amazing music, again.
3. Mechs!
4. Did that last face in the trailer belong to Shulk?
5. I am already pumped to the max for this game!

Would that particular picture have any relevance to those games, Shaymin? I don't know squat about either one.

The problem was probably that the team was too big. The word "unmanageable" comes to mind.

Sit back and enjoy, the game begs to be explored.  It got to a point though for me that I almost became an addict lol.  There were times when I really wanted to stop and push on with the story but I couldn't, for the life of me, stop myself from exploring every nook and cranny.  It'll touch on any ocd tendencies you may not even know you have lol.  Amazing game though, haven't been left that satisfied with a JRPG in such a long time.  Brings back memories of the "good old days".

I was in the same boat as you, Mannypon. I logged about 150 hours over the summer, and even though I haven't played the game in months, I hope to return to it to finish up the affinity tree and take on the final two insanely overpowered beasts.

Even though I felt compelled to explore every little nook and cranny, the great thing about the game is that there is more often than not some sort of pay off for doing so, which made it really fun and not a chore.

No, FF7 would still have stayed with Sony. Nintendo was pretty anti-RPG at the time, encapsulated by Yamauchi's infamous comment about RPG players being "depressed gamers who like to sit alone in their dark rooms and play slow games."  Nintendo and Squaresoft just had (and still have) completely different philosophies about gaming which just aren't compatible.

Plus, Sony was willing to publish FF7 and give it a ridiculously huge marketing push that there's no way in Hell Nintendo would have matched.

I was under the impression that development of FFVII began on the N64 but that Square jumped ship due to cartridge space limitations.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U in Review (News & Rumor Consolidation)

I had some extensive play time with Nintendo Lands Metroid today and good god that is the ultimate future. Co-op 3d Mario, Zelda and Metroid could bring forth some amazing ideas with the whole isometric(is that the word?) gameplay.

I don't know now anyone could doubt the gamepads use for "core" titles after playing Metroid.

Same here, Caterkiller! A friend and I played co-op Nintendo Land for the first time, and we completed every challenge in Metroid Blast (Mastering all but two of them) and all the standard challenges in LOZ: Battle Quest. After checking my Wii U log, we played for nearly 12 hours!

Metroid is serious fun. I wasn't entirely sold on Nintendo Land prior to this, but now I am.

Also, using the grapple beam to hang from the gunship is awesome.

My update started at 30% and only took about 10 minutes. I'm pretty happy with that.

Theyshould have it come with a game boy advance micro, so you have 2 worthless stripped down consoles

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Let's not say things we can't take back! GBA Micro was awesome, despite being unable to play GB/GBC games. Plus, it had a headphone input jack, so it had that over the GBA SP.

I'll champion this sentiment as well! Prior to picking up a Micro, I thought that it was pretty useless. Afterall, no backwards compatibility AND a smaller screen? However, the reality is that it is damn sleek. A great design and hella portable.

Unfortunately, I can't really say the same for the Wii Mini. Someone like me has absolutely no use for this thing. The lack of Wifi limits many games and applications (no Netflix OR Wii Shop), and the removal of the SD card slot defeated my interest in this as a homebrew running Wii.

Funnily enough, it's an example of Nintendo's "This only plays games" mandate. It'll be interesting to see who still has an interest in that. That being said, this will likely be a collector's item because it may not sell all that well.

Does THQ own the Darksiders IP? If so, I would love to see Nintendo pick that up.

Sweet! Looking forward to reading this review, Zach. Glad to see you enjoyed it. I'll totally pick this one up when the price drops a little bit.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: how are the Darksiders 2, Batman and BLOPS 2 ports?
« on: November 23, 2012, 04:08:23 PM »
Glad you asked this question, magicmilner, as it's been one I've been wondering myself. As the Wii U is my only HD system, I've been interested in Darksiders II and Batman. From what I've gathered, they are every bit as good as their original console counterparts, but the addition of Wii U features isn't anything really game-changing.

I have a feeling that I'll definitely pick them both up when they inevitably drop in price later on. I'm also really craving a good FPS, and Black Ops II is apparently quite good, but I prefer something a little more simplified. I loved the Wii version of Goldeneye, so I'm hoping something with similar mechanics comes along soon!

« on: November 23, 2012, 10:52:55 AM »
Well, day one is behind me, and I am happy to report that I didn't have a single problem. Fortunately, I was aware of the long system update and was prepared to keep myself entertained during the download process.

Historically, I've been very fortunate with the Wii in the past -- the only freezes I experienced while playing the system were during online matches of Goldeneye and Call of Duty.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Who is buying a Wii U at launch?
« on: November 15, 2012, 10:25:11 AM »
I currently have two online pre-orders -- one at Future Shop and one at EB Games -- both of which were placed the weekend immediately following the September press event. I'm assuming/hoping/praying that one of those will go through, and that I will be getting my Wii U a day or two shortly after launch day.

I'm thinking about downloading NSMBU, since I'll have the deluxe digital promotion I should take advantage of. Either way, I'll be paying $60 for the game.

Looking forward to hearing more Wii U impressions and launch pick-up plans!

Speaking of which, I was reminded of how you guys are the definitive source for Nintendo news when I turned to Weekend Confirmed for their take on the Wii U press event in Sept. Theirs was the first well-known industry podcast I could find which covered the event, and I had to suffer through 10 minutes of them trying to comprehend why the system wasn't being sold with a remote! Ugh!

I made the same assumption, and the same mistake, about the first game that you did, Pandareus.

I also feel that I must apologize for requesting the third game (my former handle was OneTwenty). Though I certainly don't feel passionate about it enough to fight either TYP or Zach, I do think that it can still be enjoyable to play. It's far from perfect, but I feel like people often retroactively apply their hate for its much worse sequels to this title. I had actually forgotten that I had requested that game. At least I can say that I wasn't the only one who requested it.

That being said, I feel like I must redeem myself. I'll be submitting some much better requests very soon.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: I do want the Wii U to fail
« on: October 08, 2012, 03:30:44 PM »
You know people say things in the heat of the moment they mean at that time but they might not always mean.

The beautiful thing about the internet is that people need not post their knee-jerk reactions. Unlike a face-to-face argument, we can allow the "heat of the moment" to pass and respond after we fully articulate our thoughts.

Of course, that's not always the case, but people often seem to go to extremes on internet forums, and if they don't mean to, it's often interpreted in such a manner. If everyone remembers this, we all might get along just fine.  :D

... Eeeeeeew, Castlevania the Adventure. X____X

Yeah, I haven't heard good things about this Castlevania game. However, having recently played through Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge on the Game Boy, I can say that that game is excellent!

And although I appreciate some of this, they've got a really blatant case of false advertising to address... where's my Kirby's Dream Land 2, NOA?

Why Shaymin, it's in your copy of Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition of course!
