General Gaming / RE:Report: Sony to cut up to 20,000 jobs
« on: October 23, 2003, 03:06:35 PM »
Although this is all very off topic for this forum, here is a link that states SCE's drop in profits for this up coming quarter:

http://www.gamespot.com/all/news/news_6077227.html

"but also blamed sluggish PlayStation 2 sales in America."

Who ever thought they would hear that...

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Why no Mario RPG sequel?
« on: October 20, 2003, 06:54:06 PM »
Thank you! Paper Mario, while fun, paled in comparasion to the excellent Super Mario RPG. My thirst for another Mario RPG has yet to be taken care of, and the game remains one of my all time fav games, and without a doubt my fav SNES game.

As is, it was a excellent RPG that built a foundation from the world of mario, although a story that warrants Bowser joining forces with Mario again should be used... as that was a excellent feature in the game. I also feel that this was the best Mario game to date, unless you count Smash Bros. Melee.

"So for all of you that hated it, but loved Mario 64, I'm just going to assume that you were looking for something different, and you got more of the same."

Exactly, which is what makes this statement not make any sense:

"Am I the only one in this forum, in the gameworld who think that Nintendo should give the gamers what they want and not experiment the innovation they think so good for the industry´s expansion above what´s good?"

That's what they did, unless you consider Super Mario Sunshine a huge leap into a innovative direction that seperates it from Super Mario 64 quite a bit, I don't. Nor does Miyamoto.

3004
? If I am not mistaken, Super Mario Sunshine is bashed for being just more of the same from Super Mario 64, not for its odd innovation in that field. If anything they gave the gamers what they wanted on that one, and people just realized that they would rather have more innovation.

This whole thing just doesn't wash with me, seems like a forced editorial that was made just to upease a update on that particular site.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Disappointed......New to GC
« on: October 18, 2003, 06:18:58 AM »
I have to agree with Grey Fox. I never even finished Star Fox Adventures, I got so bored of the large, usually baren, levels with enemies that comprised no more skill than just jamming the button with no fear of being hit. The graphics were good... but it's a game I am sorry I bought. Anyway, my personal recommendation list:

Super Smash Bros. Melee (GET THIS! My sole reason for owning a Cube, got it the day it released, and still play it)
Time Splitters 2 (if you don't own on another system)
Metroid Prime
Soul Caliber II (if you don't own on another system)
Roque Leader (or might just hold out for the third)
Skies of Arcadia Legends (if you don't own on another system)
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

There are tons of great games for the cube, but out of the 30 I own (yeah, even number) these are the cream of the crop IMO.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:GAMECUBE sales quadruple!!
« on: October 02, 2003, 09:15:23 PM »
I agree with what Manny said, but I have to give props to Infernal Monkey for the best response yet.

I don't see how anyone can see the negative in this, sales are increasing and, hell, alteast for me, some of my friends who were only into the PS2 have picked up a GCN so they can get Resident Evil and, later, Twin Snakes.

General Chat / What is the legal "mumbo jumbo" behind audio samples?
« on: September 07, 2003, 05:04:43 PM »
fter searching Google for half a hour with no clear results, I was wondering if anyone here could answer my question.

What exactly is the legal information behind "audio samples'? A lot of sites do it (amazon, buy.com) and I was wondering exactly what terms they have to follow to keep it legal? Is there a time limit, if i had to guess under 30 seconds or 1 minute? What about songs that are less than those listed times? And how would this apply to a audio medium not on CD (example: Game or Movie that has no CD soundtrack, or atleast not that particular song)?

Sorry for the tough question, and thanks in advance.

TalkBack / RE:More Sakurai Details
« on: August 20, 2003, 06:53:10 AM »
Oh please, god, I hope he comes back to do another Smash Bros. down the line. Without a doubt one of Nintendo's hottest franchises, and considering how well the first two worked with Masahiro Sakurai, I hope he continues to work on the series.

who made it? i forget :\

Well it had saving, so it wasn't that hard... the trick for the bosses was just to evolve a "worthless" body part... example the horn, as everytime you evolved your HP filled. Nice little trick for fighting em.

It was a excellent game overall though, one of my fav SNES games.

I don't know what you are trying to accomplish, but if you are trying to tell PGC visitors of your site by slandering the PGC staff than your approach is more than a little flawed. I have never been to your page, and truthfully after seeing your behavior here, I have no desire to either.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Mainstream Media trys to Cover Video Games.
« on: May 29, 2003, 05:39:16 PM »
"Oh, and Grey Ninja, Nintendo isn't doing well. They fell below their expectations."

And Sony is at a seven year low in terms of their stock value... whats the point? World economy ain't doing to hot, but still Nintendo is #1 in terms of video game profits out of the three, no doubt about that. Just beacuse they failed to meet their expectations doesn't mean they still aren't making the green.

But what game of Sonic Team's "tanked" on the GCN?

Did Phantasy Star Online do horrible or something? Or are they refering to the Sports games still, which weren't done by the Sonic Team?

Either way Sega has the most backwards logic I have ever seen... -_-

Nintendo Gaming / Why don't Nintendo fans like Fighting Games?
« on: May 25, 2003, 05:20:49 PM »
I LOVE fighting games and already have SSB: M, Bloody Roar (awesome game BTW), Mortal Kombat: DA, and Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. I plan to pick up Soul Caliber II when it comes out here of course.

TalkBack / RE: UbiSoft announces Splinter Cell Sequel
« on: May 21, 2003, 11:08:29 AM »
Looks like MS couldn't hit Ubi Soft with a money hat for the sequel... be nice to get it at the same time as the Xbox version. Suppose I will just hold off on getting the first now and see how the second pans out.

General Chat / RE: CD Japan?
« on: May 21, 2003, 08:32:53 AM »
I have ordered nearly 30 soundtracks from  CD Japan and beyond the time it takes to recieve items, standard for a company based in Japan, I only have good things to say about them.

I highly recommend them.

General Chat / RE: The Matrix Reloaded......Anyone seen it?
« on: May 19, 2003, 07:04:47 PM »
After seeing Matrix Reloaded I would have to give it the coveted "most over hyped film in history" award.

I loved the first, but the second left me cold...

The film seemed about about 30% filler to me, and the fights seemed.... well worn out. They rarely ever reached the same level as the first Matrix.

The dance scene, as others have mentioned, is probably the most painful part. I swear the scene was constructed with the sole purpose of giving customers a chance to run out and get some popcorn.

If I had to make the choice again, seeing Matrix Reloaded or $9, my wallet would be $9 thicker... but live and learn.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: lack of good teen or mature games
« on: May 12, 2003, 10:44:51 AM »
Oh my god! jc24 is right! I just looked at my collection of GCN games and realized that I don't have a single exclusive "mature" FPS title!

I have been in fault for all these years, oh I feel so horrible... I suppose the only solution would be to sell my GCN and go out and get a Xbox where these mature titles can be found. Oh thank you jc24 for pointing out this fault in my console, and opening my eyes.

... Just giving the troll what he wants... heh heh (yes that was 101% sarcastic).

NWR Feedback / RE: Problem with Planetgamecube's front page
« on: May 08, 2003, 01:40:21 PM »
Not sure what the pages stance is on "double posting"... but this is still a issue and not being able to look at the front page of PGC is really starting to get on my nerves. I did a virus scan, and I did a check with Adaware... if anyone has any other suggestions I would be more than willing to try them out.

Thanks in advance.

I just updated my adware to the latest, and still the problem happens. Also its not a pop-up, I already have a pop-up killer, it redirects me away from PGC to a page with the dialer, which is even worse as I can't even view PGC... -_-

I know this is probably something wrong with my computer, which is why I didn't post it in "Tech," but everytime I try to view www.planetgamecube.com I am redirected to a lousy internet dialer...

I did a check with ad-aware, and my virus scanner... but nothing... anyone have any clue what could be doing this? It seems to only happen with PGC, just my luck -_-

How did Agent Under Fire get on there? heh heh

Problem with Players Choice games is that I almost always have the ones that already interest me once games go on the "list." -_-

Don't shoot the messenger... but I recall it being mentioned that Microsoft gave Konami a money hat to make sure that MGS3 hits the Xbox first for several months before appearing on other systems. I think this happend shortly after Konami announced that Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance would not be released on the Xbox in Japan, seems that forced MS to do what it does best... throw money at companies to get what they want.

I hope I am wrong, but just do a quick search on Google and you can find sites mentioning the money hat that MS gave Konami. One example here:

Just wanted to warn people before they get their hopes up.

Infogrames did it with the Godzilla game being ported to the Xbox, even after they said they wouldn't port the game. So I figure they will probably do it with the DBZ one to the Cube... not that I am interested in DBZ unfortently.

General Gaming / Who still loves their PC over consoles and why?

Blizzard games are the only reason why I ever played games on the PC, and beyond their releases I don't really have a interest in any PC game.
