Already up to $865.55, and it's still going! He looks to make a tidy profit off of this when all is said and done.

You know, I had been thinking the PGC was the last place on the net to have intelligent discussions about games and gaming.

You have shown me there are no such places.

I think you are taking this a little too far... If it makes you feel better, the PSP did outsell the Gamecube, and we aren't sure how many PSPs there were to still go around.  However, I don't see why one has to take offense when someone on a Gamecube forum "roots for the home team".

Also, in regards to the numbers, are the GBA figures for the SP and the regular system?

Did anyone see the "Coming Attractions" advert (one with Kantos, Goldeneye and Metroid)? Love to see that one on TV, great choice of music too (love Rob Zombie, even if his movies might suck...). The other two Metroid Prime 2 commercails were eh, but that one was just perfect, one of the best video game adverts out there.

heh heh, noticed that too. This comes on the heels of the next Godzilla game coming to all systems but the one it did best on (Gamecube). If I had any faith in Atari, it's now gone.  I think Warner Bros is on to something here, though, I mean has there ever been a good game based on a WB license?

I also like WB's comment: "But [Warner Bros.] would only comment that "sales don't equal quality."" Translation: Enter the Matrix was crap, and they knew it.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube's worldwide sales?
« on: May 21, 2004, 09:57:18 PM »
Just wondering if anyone here has the worldwide sales of the Gamecube (hardware)? If you happen to have a source for that figure too, that would be great.

Hope I'm not sounding pushy, and thanks for your time.

You are correct, the latest Godzilla game from Atari IS a sequel to G: DAMM, and it goes under the name "Godzilla: Save the Earth." It may not have the #2 in its title, but it is a sequel the first game in terms of type of game, how it is played, and the returning roster from the first (or so it looks). The project was even code named "Godzilla 2" while in development, so there is no doubt that this is the sequel the successful GCN and unsuccesful Xbox game: Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee.

For more information on the sequel, which I'm hoping gets a Cube port with enhanced features like the Xbox got of the first, you can visit here:

Ok, not sure how many care, but it appears from various sources that some of the staff behind this game surf the boards over at GameFaqs, and that if enough "stink" about the lack of Gamecube version is addressed that they MIGHT consider porting it. Sounds like a long shot, but for those interested please sounds off in the GameFaqs board for the first game here:

For those that do care, thanks for your time.

Wow, the Gameboy one is awesome, too bad the Gamecube ones aren't on par with it... but hey, in their defense, they got me interested in Custom Robo. The baseball one I found a tad annoying though...

Yeah, I posted about this awhile back:

http://www.planetgamecube.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=3&threadid=8419

After looking into it further, their reasoning appears to be a rather "sloppy", IMO, justification in that the GCN is 3rd in the US. Pretty much ignoring the intended market, and what type of games sell best where... not to mention that the GCN version STILL outsells the superior Xbox one in weekly sales... Like I stated before, I just don't think Atari has a whole lot of business sense.

However, they have their DBZ games to fall back on, at least for now, although it should also be noted that Atari has gone on the record to say that they are a “huge supporter” of the PSP too…

Umm... no, that's wrong, sorry. The new Terminator game and (most likely) the new Enter the Matrix game are both coming out for the GCN. So they haven't dropped support.

At this point, in terms of if I would like it or not, I'll say yes as it would probably be the only way to keep it off other systems, unless it bombed.

Most excellent, glade you got that quote for others to see... hope Planetgamecube makes sure to mention it when they run the story. Its a little more easier to stomach that Factor 5 has moved onto a next generation console from the Gamecube, as opposed to the Xbox or PS2.

Super Smash Bros. Melee. There really is no contest in those regards. SSBM and Time Splitters 2 have been the only two titles which I play constantly sense buying them quite some time ago.  Its the best party game for the GCN, but the amount of options that the player can toggle with give it a lot of replay value for those times when you just want to mess around with the game by yourself. Gotta love the diverse cast of characters, and the nostalgia never really wears out for me.

Ok, lets play within the stereotype here, what about some of the more "kid oriented" titles like: "Ty the Tasmanian Tiger," "Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly," and maybe the delayed port of "Scooby Doo" on the Gamecube?

PS: (and a little off topic) I also never liked Turok very much, beyond the first one for a short time before Goldeneye 007 was released and my expectations of the genre soared.

Ah yes, right of course, G: DAMM must have passed over my mind when I made this... so are:

Soul Calibur II
Sonic Heroes
Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee
Star Wars: Clone Wars

the only  titles which have sold better on the GCN? Kind of dishearting...

I have one of those, which was the second SNES I got, anyway it came free with the pruchase of "Kirby Superstar" rather late in the SNES' lifetime. I think Target, among others, were offering this deal.

Also, as I recall, Game Genie didn't work with the "mini" version of the SNES, much to my dismay as I still can't beat the Super Star Wars games any other way.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube Versions vs. Xbox/PS2
« on: March 27, 2004, 06:03:46 PM »
Sorry for the semi-vague title, but it’s the best I could come up with to relate to my question, which is related to games which have hit multiple systems. Anyway, I was wondering which games have sold the best on the Gamecube in the U.S., either compared to both the PS2 and Xbox versions or just one, and how often is the Gamecube version ported over later than the others.

For example, I’m pretty sure that the Gamecube versions of both “Sonic Heroes” and “Soul Calibur II” outsold both their Xbox and PS2 counterparts in America.

Thanks for your time.

Personally, I would rather hit a switch that would change between my settings from my console to my DVD Player. Less work than switiching out the game inside everytime I want to watch a movie, better DVD player too. Also, how many times do you hook up your DVD Players/Systems that this would become a "hassle"?

Actually, Atari gave Gamecube the worse of the two versions, they even removed content (the bots) from the Gamecube version and it STILL trounced the Xbox version.

I don't think so, as Enter the Matrix 2 and the next Terminator game from them are both hitting the Cube... They are, however, trying to show themselves as being one of the biggest supporters for the PSP (let them, I have yet to see a good hand held game from them).

Everything seems to point to a grudge against Nintendo, or something. When you have a 4 player game which didn't sell well on the Xbox, and then you go ahead and release it for every system but the Cube... I'm just baffled...

I hate Atari... I really do...

http://www.tohokingdom.com/web_pages/godzilla_vg_stuff/gdamm2/news.htm

The game will appear for every system BUT the Gamecube...  Ok, PS2, thats great, more people to be exposed to Godzilla from the large userbase. But the Xbox again? I have one question... why? It just doesn't make sense, the Xbox port sold well below the GCN version, below Atari's expectations as well, and appears to continue to sell worse than the GCN version.  Plus, Atari had the sales figures for both by the time they started planning a sequel.

So what does Atari do? That's right, they drop GCN support in favor of Xbox support.  You can't sell the Xbox version in Japan either, they choose to withhold the Xbox version of G: DAMM there, a lot of good that's going to do you Atari seeing as how its Godzilla's 50th birthday this year along with the last Godzilla film to be released in atleast a decade.

I'm convinced Atari's business decisions are made by a group of chimps and a dart board... Anyway, this topic is in the wrong forum now.

http://www.tohokingdom.com/web_pages/news/2004/3-10-04_e3_gdamm2.htm

It appears, according to Atari, that the sequel to the 2002 GCN/XBOX game Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee 2 is being made, and will likely appear at E3. No word yet on a system, keeping fingers crossed for Gamecube which seems more likely than Xbox due to sales.

Atari just made a lot of Godzilla fans very happy though, lets hope they improve on the formula and correct some of the mistakes the first game made. Even if the formula is about the same, with just an improved roster, I'll still likely pick this baby up if it hits the cube.
