Nintendo Gaming / Beach Spikers trailer w/ Live bikini women
« on: June 18, 2003, 08:19:29 PM »
Sega's Beach Spikers is another one of my favs, thanks to its custom character options and direct-yet-deep-and-fun play mechanics similar to Mario Tennis (another fav).

I came across this trailer today:
http://www.gamecubeland.com/index.php?page=media&media_id=40

It's nearly 2min long, 352x288 MPEG, directed towards the PAL release, features a decent amount of gameplay footage, plus live women in bikinis.

What puzzles me is:  why didn't I see this sooner?  and why hasn't this trailer been circulated more?!
It could've greatly increased awareness for this great game.  It's a shame.

Water bottles are for more than drinking.

Great.  Let's hope for "Super Samus Ball"
or
"Super Morph Ball"
or
"Super Metroid Ball"

with the complementary "Super Metroid Ball Jr." on Game Boy Advance.

Sam Fisher can only climb up things the developer tells him to.  What an idiot.

"Hey Sam, get to the embassy by entering the restaurant with the armed guards in it.  Don't climb up telephone poles, apartment ladders, overhangs, or use grappling hooks.  There's a world of options available to you."

Considering she's fused with Chozo blood and has a work routine of a Navy SEAL, Samus would look like He-Man, but with Barbie's head, so NO, I don't care for an image of Samus in a bikini.

There's a lot to learn and appreciate from history.  Us 21+ gamers have been through a lot of gaming history, so many might know what's worth appreciating and will stand the test of time, with the rest to be forgotten and laughed at.

Sense of fun?  My friends and I still make "monkey" jokes when we play Super Monkey Ball.  We're all 22 and over too, and couple of us married.  Such "mature content" in a children's title!

If only Nintendo & Friends advertised more effectively.  Their ability to build awareness for quality games is poor.  Why is it that it takes "bonus discs" and "free this/free that" to build considerable anticipation and interest?

My guess is your DVD player is outputting audio only in the old Dolby Pro Logic (I) mode, which does not support 2 separate surround channels, unlike GameCube w/ Pro Logic II.

When you're pulling up treasure, and you're not exactly at the right spot, sometimes you'll pull up a huge, rusty, corroded teapot.

General Gaming / What resolution uses the GC games?
« on: June 18, 2003, 01:46:57 PM »
Many screenshots would tell us GameCube games process at 640x448 (we don't get the full 480 cuz TV monitors end up covering the few top and bottom scanlines, so why waste pixels), but the actual video feed does occupy 480(vert) by adding miniscule black borders.

To clear something up, every Friday night is "Game nite + dinner" with my friends.  This Friday is more special, though, cuz a friend I haven't seen in a while from out of town will be joining us.

Thanks for your kind words, everyone.

But the story is not over, yet.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS UP WHY MY CUBE.

It doesn't seem to be dead, but rather, UNDEAD.

This son-f-a-bich might be possessed.  It refuses to function propperly outside of my hometown.  It worked during the weekend while I was home.  It DIDN'T WORK AT ALL when i spent the earlier part of this week at my apartment an hour's drive away.  Now I'm back home, AND IT WORKS FINE AND ^%)(&*^$% DANDY.

To add mystery to it all, i previously mentioned that I wanted a Platinum GC w/ Free game w/ Bonus disc.  I visited a Target, a Walmart, and a Toys R Us consecutively, and none of them had all three key ingredients at the same time, so I never bought a new system bundle yet.  It's as if I'm not meant to get another GameCube.

I'm cursed.

General Chat / capture cards
« on: June 18, 2003, 11:22:45 AM »
I have the Matrox Marvel G400-TV, which is an old 3D/video capture combo card in similar vein to the ATI Radeon series, but Matrox's video capture capabilities have always blown the Radeons out of the water.  The Marvel only had 3D power comparable to a TNT2/Voodoo3, but it's video capabilities are still amazing, which is why i still use it (if you can watch a movie in Windows Media Player, you can watch it full screen on TV).  It cost me $250 several years ago, has RCA & S-Video inputs and outputs, and one TV coax input, captures at 704x480 rez.

For stand-alone capture cards, Miro (Pinnacle) capture cards have been quality picks.  No TV coax connections, but of course has RCA & S-video ins and outs.  Captures using proprietary MJPEG format codec, at 640x480 rez.  If you can find it, a low-price model would be the Miro DC10; for more expensive models, try Miro DC30, DC30+, DC50.

If you prefer to play around with DV formatted video instead of MJPEG (and spend more money), you could try out analog-to-DV hardware.  Devices from Canopus and Dazzle are good picks, though Dazzle often requires you to already have firewire ports on your comp to receive the video data coming from the capture unit (some are external units, some are internal and fit in your drive bay).
The Dazzle Hollywood DV bridge is quite expensive, and requires pre-existing firewire ports.  The Canopus units aren't as expensive, and come with their own firewire add-in cards.

actually, sell it to me for $20! ill do.. something.. with it perhaps put a NES into it somehow

Hey, PIAC, are you *really* serious about that?  That would help compensate for some of my losses; cuz by buying a new system I'd:
1) get the Platinum GC I've always wanted.
2) get a new controller to replace my worst one (of four).
3) sell Zelda:WW + the Demo Disc for $40
4) have 2 sets of power cords so i can easily move my system upstairs or downstairs to my room (where i capture video) or my living room (where the big screen is).

Would you really buy my dead GameCube for $20 (console ONLY; no cords or anything)?

It started choking, giving "cannot read disc" errors the minute my friends and I popped in SSBM last Friday nite the 13th.  It worked flawlessly over the weekend, allowing me to play Mega Man Network Transmission which was dropped off at my doorstep late Friday by UPS & Capcom (got the free t-shirt!).  I guess that was its dying wish.  Today, it refuses to advance beyond the purple GC boot logo.  It's glared thru my tv for the last time.  Dark forces are at hand!

The funeral will be held, here.

The GBA Player should've been available at launch.  It would've been an even greater Cube incentive to members of the existing pre-Cube GBA market.
