Nintendo Gaming / RE: What really happened to Link?
« on: April 07, 2004, 06:03:34 PM »
I've always wanted to see that Link/Malon ending.

Anyway, WW's world is strictly connected to the events that Big Link experienced, where Ganondorf was defeated 7 years after Kid Link got the Master Sword.  If we look at the timeline Link jumps thru, Big Link was the one-and-only Hero of Time and physically belonged in that Ganondorf-influenced Hyrule.  However, "Almost-legal" Princess Zelda in her "infinite wisdom" (Triforce, my butt) sent Link's arse back 7 years, essentially physically removing Link from their universe and eliminating any meaningful involvement he'd have in their future -- because Link is now physcially lagging behind by 7 years -- that's why the Hero "didn't show up" in the precedents to WW.  Point is:  IT'S ALL ZELDA'S FAULT tHE STUPID *#&%@.

Now, MM is of course connected to Kid Link after he was returned to being a kid, specifically before Ganondorf chased Kid Zelda outta the castle.  It's funny in a Tom Hanks/"Big" sorta way cuz Link got to experience what it's like "to be a MAN" even though his mentality didn't mature at the same time his body did, anyway...  The problem is it isn't clear whether or not Ganondorf was a threat, or if he was there at all.  What signaled Link that it was OK to run off (and end up in Termina)?  It sounds like Kid Link and Kid Zelda teamed up on Ganondorf and defeated him then and there, if he was around at all.  Or it was like "ok Link, there's no bad guy to defeat so you can run off wherever you want, oh, take the Ocarina of Time with you."  Whatever happened, with Kid Link and Kid Zelda practically able to run around for 7 years together, the events in the latter part of Ocarina of Time most likely would not have taken place, and we're now working with an alternative universe, where the OoT/WW universe moved along separately.

And as soon as you're done with Metroid Prime, get Viewtiful Joe.

NWR Feedback / RE: My OPINION on PGC... Goodbye old friend
« on: April 01, 2004, 09:19:18 PM »
I've been visiting PGC and Nintendojo since 1999 (has it been that long?).  I'm inclined to say PGC has been the most stable over the years, mostly because I've seen Nintendojo have unnecessarily long "dead" periods due to the loss and gain of writing staff, and their reviews [used to] come out later than others'.

Then there's Nintendorks, who's probably had the longest down time (and slowest recovery) of any site.  News is slow, reviews are slow, but they make up for that with sheer hilarity (mature content!), honesty (professionalism goes out the window, cuz most of the time you realize it's not necessary), practicallity in their articles, short or long.  It makes me smile, unnaturally (like one particular "performance" drug advertised on tv).

Tendobox was great too.  They're no longer with us.

OK, great.
Like Clash of the Titans.

And half-naked men engaging in mortal kombat with blue-screened claymation scorpions.

No way.

Nah.  Gameplay's different, controls are different.  RE4/ED's cameras cannot be compared validly.  RE4's camera is rather "STUCK," from the looks of the video.  It's much more like P.N.03's camera in that sense (Shinji Mikami's previously worked title).

Just get component and use them with your TV.  You'll get a slightly sharper picture than S-Video and it'll have no color bleeding at all (unless your tv's busted).  Madcatz sells a decent component switchbox.

VGA monitors aren't meant to display interlaced video, which can't really be helped, despite what scan converter you buy for a TV-to-VGA hookup.  Then there's the extra cost for that converter too.  I suggest you stick with the TV solution.

I was watching the latest episode of South Park.  Mel Gibson's off his rocker!

UPDATE:  Man, that was sick!

Examine every cubic foot of space in a 3D Zelda game.  There's magickal things to see.

I thought they failed 2.5 times.

a) Lament of Innocence, which didn't do a lot of important things well (platforming, level design/variety, camera, menus, story tie-in, etc).
b) N64 Castlevanias I count as 1.5 games, since one's an update to the former.  These I found much easier to digest (I did enjoy them) than LoI because they were built off the platforming roots of the classic Castlevanias, with cool platforming challenges.  Music and enemy numbers/placement is where I'd make the key improvements in.

We've only seen the official *teaser* trailer.  We've yet to see how good the game truly is.

I still think the lighting on the villagers is still "off."  As they hold a torch, the upper portions of the body *should* be noticeably illuminated, not "OH I'm just a torch floating amongst pitch black darkness," as if the torch flame didn't give off any light, or if the developers made the intensity of the light unreasonably low.  If there was a brighter light-source shining towards the game camera, then the "blacked-out" villager lighting would be logical.

[after reviewing the trailer...]

HOLY CRAP, the lighting *DOES* make some sense, yet not.  In the outdoor night sequences, Leon's back is illuminated regardless of the lighting conditions of the environment, as if there's a "camera crew" behind him with a light shining above and to the left of him.  This closer light source would cause distant objects to appear darker since our eyes would adjust themselves to the brightness of the more direct, more intense light source, like how it's harder to see in the dark while driving when headlights from oncoming traffic shine directly at you.

The new question is, where the hell did this "camera crew" light come from?

SACRILEGE!!

Go back and play the old 8-bit Castlevanias, Contras, Ninja Turtles and whatnot!

The DivX codec (a couple *.dll's and *.ax's) is what's important, not the media playing software (however, QT doesn't run DivX).  Media players are mainly vehicles to access the audio/video decoders on your operating system.

I still use Windows Media Player 6.4, cuz it loads fast, is compact, has no unnecessary buttons, gives me access to codec settings, and I can pause/play video by simply pressing SPACE BAR.

I don't see why.  Seemed like "classical" Konami fare.

Link shall travel by a mighty giant PIG.  On land it is a force to be reckoned with, and it has the ability to travel over water, much like the amphibious armored personnel carriers of the U.S. Marine Corps.

My bad.

It think it's slightly better to visit www.1up.com

Gee, Igarashi, thanks for the lack of effort in creating female characters.  Thanks for the lame story in LoI that DOESN'T EVEN HAVE DRACULA.  Thanks for the AWEFUL 3D MECHANICS in LoI.  LoI is also one of the smallest games in the series.  Meh.

Put Hagihara-san back in the driver's seat, with KCEK as the developer (N64 Castlevanias, GBA Castlevanias).  Igarashi's gone nuts.
