TalkBack / Re: New Nintendo DS Has Camera, Music Playback
« on: September 28, 2008, 01:30:27 AM »
Nah, not Kohler.  That dude speaks and reads Japanese too well to mistranslate something.  This looks like the last big push to get a DS sales surge before they announce the DS's successor.  With the new things that developers could do with a camera, you could probably milk two more years of innovative games out of the DS.

Nintendo seems to have finally wised up and tossed in media capabilities, which really make it more competitive to the PSP in those respects.

Or, to be more accurate, make the PSP less competitive with the DS.

Kohler posted this on Wired, so it's legit from all appearances.

So you posted a copy of the requirements for the game... Then ask US if your computer can run it.

What's wrong with you?

If this is all you have to add to the thread, don't post in it Dirk.  There's no need for these personal attacks.  You've been warned.

Yup, the soundtrack is catchy techno.  Good stuff, not too overpowering but still nice to have going in the background.

Yah, Galaxy Man is easy.  I have a feeling I started with the hardest levels first.

The league is going to be a piece of cake, since Pale is sure to draft Shaq, Nash, and Stoudemire with his first three picks.

I don't have a cell phone at the moment. There are a bunch of reasons why I don't have a cell phone, and the most important is that I don't need one because it would be an investment from my part that I could reap no benefits at the moment. Don't get me wrong though, I fully support and love to see the enhancements in cell phone tech and gadgetry, it's just that there are certain tech tools that I just like to be kept simple and clean. Also, I'm at home a lot, and such benefit in portability functions is just something I already have on my PC where I spend most of my time anyway.

If you're not very mobile, you don't really NEED one.  The only reason I'd say it'd be good to have one would be emergencies.

(I really, REALLY doubt we'll see many more exclusive 360 JRPGs, personally...It's just not cost-effective at all for developers...)

If they're getting moneyhats, I don't think they care.  Microsoft is paying away the risk for them, essentially.  I don't think it's entirely moneyhats, either...you would think that some brave souls would choose to fill an empty niche in the 360's library, much like High Voltage with Conduit on Wii.  In the beginning, certainly there were moneyhats, but now I'm not entirely sure.  Franchises that are popular in Japan sell decently on the 360, as isolated as those cases are.

Windy probably mentioned it to me, I regurgitated it on the podcast, and then forgot to actually join.  I have Windy, Jonny, and Ty on my friends list, though.

I haven't played local multiplayer, but you can choose between horizontal and vertical split-screen, which impressed the hell out of me.  The online is amazing, there's literally no difference between online and off in terms of speed and performance.

I think this game is actually a bargain at $20.

The PS3 version is fine.  I got it for that exact reason - I didn't want it taking up space on my Wii.  The game screen has a black border (since the PS3 is HD and has more screen real estate), but aside from that it looks exactly like an NES game.  Plays nicely with the PS3 D-Pad as well.

And of course it has the online leaderboards, although it doesn't have trophy support.  Not sure if that's coming or not, but I'm not a huge trophy guy so I'm not really concerned.

Any of the PS3 players out there download WipEout HD?  Holy cow, it's amazing.  I know the WipEout series isn't everybody's cup of tea, but if you liked the older games or any of the PSP incarnations, WipEout HD is a must-own title.  It so good that they could have released it as a full-priced retail game.

Just got this last night for PS3.  It's a LOT harder than MM2.  It's not so much what you're doing, but the fact that they throw so much more advanced stuff at you right out of the gate.  With Mega Man 2, I hadn't played that game in 20 years yet I was able to sit down and beat Wood Man after about a half-hour of playtime.  In MM9, I didn't even make it to a boss after a half-hour - in fact, after about an hour of playing I was still in the "Holy crap this level is hard, let me try one of the other ones" phase.

With MM9, there's a whole lot of "are you kidding me?" that goes on.  It reminds me of the NES Ninja Gaiden games, in which you need to pretty much memorize enemy placement in order to beat levels.  This requires a lot of trial and error.  MM2 doesn't require this type of memorization.

Seriously, Golden Sun.  This is another one of those series that Nintendo inexplicably leaves on the sidelines.  If they had Camelot create it, Nintendo publish it, and marketed the hell out of it, it would be HUGE.

Is it now the best T-Mobile smartphone, or do they have something better?  I'm not familiar with their phone selection.

I have both PS3 and 360, and really enjoy them both.  I got the PS3 because I'm a technology whore, and I bought the PS3 to specifically play games with my buddies (Halo 3, Gears of War, NHL, Madden, etc.).  If all of my buddies had PS3s, I wouldn't own a 360.  At this point the PS3's online component does about 98% of what Xbox Live does, perhaps not as slickly, but functionality-wise they're nearly identical (especially with PS3 games coming out nowadays, which all have trophies, properly-integrated online features, etc.).

That GPS sounds awesome.  I was watching one review and they sure weren't fond of the camera, though.  They were talking about it taking a ridiculous amount of time to snap the photo, which is apparently a problem on all HTC phones.

I can see that.  My general experience was that Uncharted was one of those games that I'd play for couple of hours at a stretch, and then say "OK, I've had enough for the evening".  I always wanted to come back to it though, mainly to see how the story turned out.
