TalkBack / Re: NEC SuperGrafx on Its Way to Virtual Console
« on: September 30, 2008, 09:44:30 AM »
I think this is the ideal use for Virtual Console - giving us games that we wouldn't go out of our way to get, but might pick up if given the chance.

I'll definitely get SuperGrafx G'n'G if it's released over here.

I never played the original Super Stardust, but come on, it's in HD.  WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?!?!

I agree, it feels very different.  The play areas also seem a little crowded, almost as if there's too much going on at once.  I find it really hard to find where you are at the start of the level, too.

Oh yeah, and I suck.

I think it's a lot different than F-Zero, really.  I think it's a little more accessible, and not as mind-blowingly difficult.  Battle isn't as big a component either.

I sent a game idea into IGN but nothing.  Not that I need it though, I have way too much to play already.

And as for Amazon, "they've been beddy beddy good to me" (channeling Sammy Sosa)

One rocky spell with Space Invaders does not mark the end of my love affair with Amazon.  We still make out regularly.

See?  It's differences like that between the same game on different platforms that causes us to only accept reviews of games played on Nintendo platforms.

See?  When you break up the original band (me, James, Greg, Jonny), everything falls apart.  Together we're Van Halen, with any of us MIA we're Van Hagar.

Apple and Microsoft are in the same boat.  They both want to have final say on what is and isn't made for their platform, and want money off of every unit sold.  This means that you can play with them...for a price.  Google is a definitely a threat to them because you can play with them without a price.  Now it's up them to prove that they can do things just as well as Apple or Microsoft.

On PSN I highly suggest getting Super Stardust HD and WipEout HD.  They're both awesome games.

PC Gaming will never die.  The simple fact that you don't have to pay one red cent to develop a game for PC ensures that it will never, ever die.

It all depends on what you're looking for.  XBL and PSN definitely have their own flavors.

BTW, there's a great pre-order deal for LBP on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/LittleBigPlanet-Playstation-3/dp/B000ZKA0JG/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1222644488&sr=8-2

You get a free $10 Amazon gift card if you place your order before 10/20.  With the way Amazon pumps out deals, you'll surely find something else to put that $10 towards.  Free shipping too.

DS sales are slowing down in Japan.  That's why Nintendo is doing this.  U.S. sales don't need any help right now, so I bet we won't see this in the U.S. until next year some time.

Yeah Pale, everybody seems to think that PSN is totally ass.  There are some incredible games on there.  I also love Everyday Shooter and PixelJunk Eden, and WipEout HD is amazing.  Echochrome and Super Stardust HD are genius as well.  Not to mention the best downloadable version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (no size restrictions = no compressed audio).  You can also get stuff like Bionic Commando, 1942, Mega Man 9, Commando 3, etc.  Good stuff, and since they revamped the layout it's a lot easier to navigate.

You can't go wrong with the 360 though.

I think these changes are more aimed at Japan than the US.  The current DS Lite is still selling in the US.

You'd think that, by now, somebody could have come up with a device to strap onto the butt of every cow out there that would eliminate the methane.

Maybe they already have:

Yup, in order to submit a formal review of a game you have to review it on a Nintendo platform, period.  It eliminates a lot of potential headaches.  We treat Virtual Console games the same way; we could play then via alternative methods and review them, but you never know when there will be an issue particular to the VC emulation.  We've seen a couple of games like that.

In cases like this one, putting a review up on the blog is perfect.

We'll have to look at this and see how it fits in with other changes we plan on making to the site.  Instituting something like this requires a bunch of us to sit down in a virtual room - filled with internet magic - and look at it from all angles, and that hasn't happened yet.
