Sounds like it might be a kind of survival horror game. But with mother nature delivering the horror.
Could be amazing. Don't count this game out. When more info it revealed it might end up being one of the Wii's most anticipated titles.

I'll say one thing, the game's hero looks cool as hell.
Kind of like Wolverine but even more bad ass.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:another controller
« on: May 09, 2006, 10:04:28 AM »
Looks like Nintendo may have scrapped the shell idea and decided to make an optional standard controller.
It's sure to come in handy for the downloadable games and I suspect it will be dirt cheap with its simple design and CORD but if original titles on the Wii use it, it will get confusing for consumers.

It's odd how it's only on the JAPANESE Wii site. Perhaps it won't make it to the US at all.

"You hold the wiimote sideways and control the truck with motion. I thought it looked good. Wave Race good. Pretty environments and ridiculous amounts of air time."

It does look good but, again, why trucks?
Is there anyone who honestly wouldn't have preferred a new Excite Bike over this?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:I take it all back ...
« on: May 09, 2006, 09:37:14 AM »
"I only read about it. But from what I read and heard, the only showed off a video of them. What I meant is that I wanted them to shown off on stage, show off how the games worked with the controller in real time. I wanted a full blown presentation, not video."

Be patient. E3 hasn't really even started yet.
I'm sure most if not all of the games will be playable. I'd rather read lengthy impressions from people have played the games than short demos from Nintendo reps anyway. The conference was just a tease. We just have to wait a little longer for the real info.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:27 Titles...
« on: May 09, 2006, 09:27:47 AM »
I still think Smash Bros Melee will be shown.
It's possible Nintendo chose not to reveal it in the conference on account of it being one of the few games that doesn't use the Wii-mote. It wouldn't have fit in with the conference's theme,

I think it's also a safe bet we'll see Sonic Wild Fire in action.

WTF is with Excite Truck anyway? Why not Excite Bike? The only explanation I can think of is that the Wii-Mote will work as a gear-shift and the the analog attachment as the steering wheel. Or this could just be Nintendo's sad attempt at being butch.

When I read the title and the Arabian nights thing I pictured some horrible Sonic spin-off. Pictured Sonic running around with a Wii-controlled firehose dressed as a sultan.
But if anything this sounds like it might be the most traditional Sonic title in years even if it does have a kind of warped story.
It says the game is controller by tilting the controller left and right. Seems obvious it's a 2D title.
Basically tilting the controller left and right to move in those directions and flinging it in those directions to do a spin-attack. Of course the classic Sonic gameplay will only require a single button for jumping. So the Wii-mote is PERFECT.
It would certainly take some getting used to but it could offer a kind of precision like never before.
You could have Sonic run at all kind of different speeds and the spin-attack would be more more reaction based.
The story does sound whack but hopefully the GAMEPLAY will be the focus here. Like it was in Sonic Rush which also had a whack story.
The mini-games sound great too especially with multiplayer which is obviously something Nintendo is going to push hard. It has to justify the name anyway.

ON ANOTHER NOTE. The sad thing is this is the type of game that could now be ported to the PS3 if it indeed only requires tilting of the controller. But most of the mini-games are probably bound to the Wii.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Rumor says EGM says Wiimote has speaker
« on: May 08, 2006, 08:09:48 PM »
As for the speaker. Not something I would have thought of but it does make sense. In fact its brilliant.
It will basically allow for 3D sound effects. Like when you hit a tennis ball in the tennis title you'll actually hear the smack right in the spot you virtually hit it. It will be much more immersive.
Or like in Nintendogs Wii you'll hear your puppy growling right in front of you as he bites his teeth into your virtual chew toy.
I still hope and expect a rumble feature though. I mean this is nice as an addition but not an alternative.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Game Market is Nintendos for the taking
« on: May 08, 2006, 08:01:19 PM »
I'm betting on $200.
The $250 supposably came from a Nintendo rep giving an estimate. Of course he's going to estimate a little higher than what they're shooting for just to be safe.
The only way I could see Nintendo actually going with $250 is if they decide they can get away with it on account of Sony being so outrageous.
But I think 200 will still be the magic number with Nintendo so focused on the maintream and non-gamers. Plus this way they'll get away with advertising the Wii as being a third of the cost of its nearest competitor.

It makes sense for the game to have optional Wii controls.
I mean it obviously has to have a traditional control scheme to be GCN compatible.
Additionally, the game wasn't designed with the Wii-mote in mind so I doubt it will be nearly as intuitive as in a game like Red Steel. Also unlike Red Steel which will likely use the sword-play sparingly, Zelda has very hack-n-slash style swordplay. Even my thumb has gotten exhausted pushing the button in some drawn out sword fights in Zelda titles over the years. Obviously full-on arm motions would not be an improvement in that regard and, for that matter, it could look sort of "wrong". The name is getting enough jokes as is.

I imagine a Zelda title built with the Wii-mote in mind will be very different than what we're used to in the series.
Instead of mercilessly hacking at enemies, it will be much more skill-based with an emphasis on using the sword to block attacks and executing a few well place stabs at "weak" spots which would be a huge improvement IMO.  Zelda is supposed to be a thinking game but the sword fighting has moslty just been dumb button mashing.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Sony half-assed ripped off Nintendo
« on: May 08, 2006, 05:43:40 PM »
Regardless of how inferior it is, this still sucks.
It's funny how people are always bitching about Nintendo supposable being paranoid and being too secretive.
They complained about Nintendo only showing the console and not the controller at E3 last year. Which is probably why they decided to reveal it at the TGS. Now look what's happened. If Nintendo had waited, this probably would have been avoided.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Sony half-assed ripped off Nintendo
« on: May 08, 2006, 05:24:51 PM »
I'm sorry but are people really going to pay almost as much for a PS3 as they would for a PC?
Some will but Nintendo is going to be a very tempting alternative with a price that will be at least half and probably even a third of it. Then you have to take into account that for the console to be really worth the cost, you need an HDTV to go along with it.
Sony got away with upping the standard price a little last generation but that was when it was the first out the door with a stranglehold on third-party support. Not to mention the addition of DVD playback which made the price jump more acceptable. Even the XBox didn't pull ahead of the Gamecube until MS packaged it with TWO free games.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Sony half-assed ripped off Nintendo
« on: May 08, 2006, 05:07:48 PM »
I knew Nintendo was going to regret showing off the feature so early on.
But is this really the same thing?
I mean does it simply detect rotation as opposed to 3D movement like the Wii's controller?
For that matter how functional will the controller be as one solid peice? The Wii-mote and analog attachment are seperate for a reason.
Still Sony should burn for this sh*t. It's possibly the most shameless rip-off in gaming history.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:GBNext: My Idea
« on: May 06, 2006, 07:28:02 PM »
I'm with pale.
A 3D display is a fun sparkling innovation but it doesn't really add anything to the gameplay.
Not like the d-pad, shoulder buttons, analog stick, touch-screen, Wii-mote or any other landmark innovation in games.
Even increased hardware power other than the obviously improved graphics allows for things like larger worlds, more activity on screen, etc...
I could see a 3D display used in conjunction with VR goggles for added immersion but if we're talking just a standard screen displaying 3D, it seems pointless to me. It would certainly be "interesting" but so was the Virtual Boy.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam confirmed for Rev
« on: May 06, 2006, 07:03:19 PM »
Definite pro.
This is what the Wii needs.
Multi-platform titles won't sell consoles. It's exclusives that will. Now in addition to Nintendo's own expected exclusives its getting some surprising third-party exclusives thanks to the innovative controller as well as the console's ease in development. Who will be able to resist buying a Wii at the very least as a second console to go go along with their 360 or PS3? Especially at half the price.

TalkBack / RE:Sega Announces E3 Titles
« on: May 05, 2006, 10:59:17 PM »
Didn't IGN basically confirm there would be a Sonic title for the Wii? It must not be listed because it's a surprise.
The Nights rumors have enough backing them to make me believe we'll still see at least a teaser for it at E3.
Don't go knocking Super Monkey Ball BB either. The original Super Monkey Ball on the Gamecube was sadly one of Sega's few solid hits last generation. The Wii getting an excluvise SMB game is huge. Especially with the new controller allowing for a more natural method of play that is sure to turn heads.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:What will likely happen at E3
« on: May 02, 2006, 04:13:56 PM »
"There's a difference between inviting someone to have their game showcased in Nintendo's booth and forcing everyone to."

For all we know, they may have been invited. You don't know that they've been forced.
Besides this E3 is all about the console's deput and upcoming launch. The focus is obviously going to be on a few select third-party titles along with Nintendo's own titles. A year from now when the console is a success and the third-party support increases I'm sure things will be different.

I think the final secret is revealed in the video but it's nothing like that.
It's all the interaction between the i's. I think Nintendo has created some new spin of online play. The technical aspects of online play have already been exploited but a creative new approach to it that would allow for more mainstream appeal and real interaction with real friends or potential friends could be a big deal. Basically, I think Nintendo could reveal the online game console equal to something like "My Space". "My Space" has become such a hit not because it technically did anything special, just created a more simplistic format which appealed to a wider audience and allowed for people to actually learn something about people they talk to online as opposed to just exchanging meaningless words with complete strangers.

Imagine if you could simply switch on the Wii-mote and with a few simple motions could bring up a list of local gamers (find out if your neighbors have Wii), gamers world-wide with similar interest, and previous opponents with a status marker indicating whether they're willing to play. You could bring up a profile with their stats and a list of games they own. There could even be a few built into the console like the ping-pong title. Because this is Nintendo it would be much more limited than My Space with actual messenge sending being limited only after someone accepts a friends invitation.

This would also make more sense of the "we".

TalkBack / RE: IMPRESSIONS: Mario Kart Arcade GP
« on: May 02, 2006, 10:54:12 AM »
"The Cube doesn't need another Mario Kart game and the Wii does. This gives the Wii a major launch title that also sells online play and it gets Mario Kart "out of the way" so Nintendo can work on something different without pressure from fans to make the typical "expected" sequels"

If the Wii was just the same old console with updated graphics like the PS3 and 360, I'd agree.
It would be unneccessary and I'd prefer Nintendo get it out of the way and create something more innovative. But a Mario Kart game on the Wii has so much potential for innovation with the new controller. Something that could not be fully exploited without building it from the ground up.
If Nintendo wants to free up its own resources it can joint-develope the game with Namco now that it's proven itself capable of making a good Mario Kart title.

"Anyway you should go to Disney Quest anyway because its awesome."

If you like virtual reality games with PSX-level graphics and over-sized uncomfortable head-sets that may have amazed people in the late 90's but are now just lame. Not to mention the Virtual Space Mountain which amazingly simulates a twisting turning roller-coaster going at a speed of about ten miles an hour. Yawn. That's on the supposably most extreme setting too. The regular arcade games including the retro section are ok but they're all tainted with the filthy hands of I LOVE HALO 2s. Rocky's Replay in Altamonte is awesome though. All the great arcade titles, much fewer I LOVE HALO 2s, and lots of alcohol and chilli dogs.

Seems like most third-parties would be pleased Nintendo would showcase their titles along with its own first and second party titles.

There's no more time for "wait and see".
The Wii launches in like six months or less.
I fully expect Nintendo to have at least a dozens of games on display and playable.
I also suspect that certain third-party titles from the likes of Capcom, Namco, Konami, Sega, and even Square (and EVEN Ubisoft w/Red Steel) will steal some of the spotlight from Nintendo's own Wii titles.
Once E3 has come and gone I think Nintendo fans will have a huge list of must-have games coming out this year. That's just counting Wii titles. Add in the DS which should get some amazing support from developers now that its a proven success and there will be a ton of homeless Nintendo fans by year's end.

Metal Slug is awesome but are these just regular ports with Wii-mote capabilities added or will they be remade with Wii-level graphics as well?

Anyway, the Wii and SNK could be a perfect match. Finally a console that lends itself to SNK's unconventional arcade-style titles.

TalkBack / RE:New Racing Game on Wii
« on: May 01, 2006, 04:00:32 PM »
I think it's already been confirmed that there's a DK platformer in development for the Wii.
Besides, I think I heard Rare took the game and converted it to Banjo-Kazooie Racing for the XBox.
I don't recall that game ever coming out but knowing Rare it could still be in development after all these years.
Probably launch with the XBox 2010.
