1. Folding@Home is not run by the pharmaceutical industry. Its a project run by Stanford University. If they find anything, they benefit. Not the industry.

2. This isn't a profit driven concept. Its a utilization concept. If your computer is idling, then why not set it to work doing something beneficial? Its not something that is expected to run 24-7 on your computer.

3. It is a research subject, not a "find a cure" search. Research is the fuel that runs universities these days. The project itself has been pretty successful, check out the results and see for yourself.

Got any more complaints about Folding@Home?

That's what I meant to say. Carry on.

And yes, scoreboards are easy to implement, but require servers to track the game information. Halo 2 has a web interface where you can view your standings or even detailed summaries of games you were involved in.

What options besides "live" friends lists and instant messaging are so fundamentally critical to your ideal online gaming environment that you consider them key options? I can't think of anything that the Live service does that can be implemented using friend codes.

I reckon its not a feature issue you're complaining about, but a privacy issue. You want a massive list of random people you meet through randomly generated games to play with. And that's got nothing to do with the friend codes. That's a privacy issue.

But there's a fundamental difference. Second Life is a world all in itself. Home might be doing a similar thing, but it's an interface for Sony's online gaming platform. All the features that Second Life and Home have in common are only integral to Second Life. In Home, they're just extra bells and whistles in addition to online gaming that, from what I know, you don't have to make use of. I could be wrong about that though--I've never played Second Life.

From the homebetatrial.com site
Quote

Home™ is a real-time 3D, networked community that serves as a meeting place for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) users from around the world, where they can interact, communicate, join online games, shop, share content and even build their own personal spaces.

Its more than just an interface. Its excessive and ridiculous. If they were going to focus on the online gaming service rather than the social side of things then perhaps I'd be more welcoming. Because it sounds a lot like they're more interested in those Second Life concepts.

This is console gaming we're talking about--not an experimental handheld. There are higher standards, and when comparing to Xbox360's brilliant Live services, and PS3's impending Home service which is looking to be more innovative than both Xbox Live and the Wii's online by a mile, as far as online infrastructures go (AND it's free and on a system that is costing Sony money to produce, so that blows the "but friend codes are free!" argument out of the water), the Wii won't have an excuse.

No, you're wrong. Live is not brilliant. It has features. But the interesting and useful features are what the games have implemented, such as matchmaking and setting up games. I still feel that I spend too much time sitting in lobbies waiting for people to join in and configuring games and all that rubbish, and given the choice I'd rather jump into any random game for a couple of quick matches. But the options are there. Its just that you're confusing one game that started the more console-friendly online games (Halo 2) with the entire Xbox library. I'd be surprised if you could name any more games that built on the innovative potential of online gaming for consoles.

And Home is nothing more than Second Life with fewer penis attacks. Well, I can't speak much about what the future will hold. And that's the wrong path to take with online gaming - building an online world. Because that's not what I want to do - I want to play games on my console. I have a computer and a life. Home brings nothing innovative to the table aside from a new attempt to raid my wallet. Pity it was in the form of digital furniture and digital brands. Yeah, that's your subscription. Oh, and the advertising.

Online gaming has potential, but there's nothing really appealing to me. Its currently either excessive or absurd depending on the product.

F'n lol. Way to call the race over before it even gets competitive. That's like making a national appearance to declare the war won, and then being stuck fighting the same war four years later.

Yeah, they're different. Perhaps there's different ways of updating the PAL systems. Perhaps they've got voodoo magic into the PS3 to upgrade the BC. Perhaps I really don't really care at this moment in time.

The bad: Only streams iTunes content--leaving it up to you to get your videos into iTunes; current crop of iTunes movies and TV shows look much worse on a big-screen TV; no HD content on iTunes Store; can't connect to older non-wide-screen TVs; small 40GB hard drive has only 33GB of usable disk space; oversimplified remote can't control other devices; no ability to purchase iTunes Store content directly through Apple TV; no A/V cables included; no Internet radio support.

Heh. They've already opened up AppleTV and the techies are showing off awesome new tricks. New formats (Xvid comes to mind), streaming content from the network, bigger hard drives. Don't worry, they'll get it to a point where people can either follow through step-by-step, or take the items to a friend who has the right tools and do it all the same.

First off, that's garbage. Backwards compatibility improved with the 360 over time after launch as they got more games working under the emulation (and I believe software based emulation is more common these days. You can claim to support BC and show you're working towards 100% emulation by updating regularly without having to reach the mythical 100% support. Prove me wrong).

How will the PS3 do the complete opposite when they are planning on the same thing (intermittent software updates)?

Whut? Sounds like another rubbish bias. When he mentions an interest in games that are actually out on the 360 right now then maybe you build yourself a bandwagon and get everyone aboard. But for now its going to get more use as a DVD player.

My advice is this:

If you want to buy games for the Xbox 360 or PS3 right now, and you can't wait until the price drops, then go and pick it up.

If you'd rather just play the games that you have right now and wait for that price drop, then get a 2nd hand PS2.

Otherwise, don't play them. I've got a lot of PS2 games still even after I sold off my PS2. I'll probably get the Blu-ray player lawlps3lawl when its not priced at a king's ransom.

Seeing as how the PS3 has wrapped up its launch in Europe and Australia, it is interesting to see that a surprising lack of demand for the systems as well as pathetic launch events from both sides of the world.

Lets discuss what the hell happened. Did Sony not bring enough DJs to the launch night? Were the peons too ignorant to not notice a good deal when they see it? Did the French police watch 300 before they started their work patrolling the Paris PS3 launch?

If you feel that the PS3 is worth the investment currently, then jump to its defense, with guns-a-blazing. I'm sure someone here has bought a PS3, and would love to rub it in my face as being the best thing since sliced bread.

If you feel that the PS3 isn't worth it, then tell me why it was a hilarious disaster. Hell, even 1up can say nice things about the PS3. Surely I jest!

Oh yeah, your personal opinion doesn't have to match your post. Hell, your posts doesn't even have to be correct. Just argue an opinion and lets see who wins.

Ahahahahahahaha not only is JT suing Take Two, he's also suing a swag of review sites, including Spong.

Yes, Spong. You read right. Its far more hilarious that I first thought. His claim:

Quote

34. Take-Two, either directly or through its agents, including but not limited to Blank Rome, has collaborated and conspired with third parties to commit these racketeering activites (sic, including but not limited to the Entertainment Software Association, the Entertainment Software Rating Board, the Entertainment Consumer Association, Gamepolitics, Kotaku, SPOnG, Joystiq, Gamespot, ign, Game Informer, Electronic Gaming Weekly, Penny Arcade, Doug Lowenstein, and others.

And want to know what life is like being JT?

Quote

“35. As a result of this collaboration, individuals have repeatedly threatened the life of Thompson, visited his residential neighborhood to hand out libellous (sic) pamphlets, filed SLAPP Bar complaints against Thompson, having been encouraged to do so by gaming web sites, sent dozens of items to Thompson’s home and office via overnight courier and mail, sent sex aid products to his wife, threatened Thompson’s son, shot at his home, sought to incarcerate Thompson, “bookstormed” his book, Out of Harm’s Way, at Amazon.com, orchestrated and knowingly incited harassing phone calls and letters, and Case 1:07-cv-20693-CMA Document 6 Entered on FLSD Docket 03/21/2007 Page 33 of 37 34 generally engaged in a knowing, purposeful, and illegal “shoot the messenger” strategy against Thompson directly and through surrogates.”

Lawl, analysts. But what's really interesting about this one is that he claims the DS could be an even bigger seller than the PS2's 115 million+

http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=15549

Quote

This comes from DFC's latest report on the portable gaming market, which the firm predicts will exceed $10 billion in worldwide revenue this year, led by the DS. DFC said that the PSP will "establish a solid position in the marketplace" but that much of the Sony portable's fate will depend on how much effort Sony Computer Entertainment decides to put into promoting the platform over the next few years.

I took this to the most unilateral source of right and wrong googlefight and found:

DS failure
3,810,000 results
defeats
PSP failure
1,130,000 results

PS3 failure
1,190,000 results
defeats
PSP failure
1,130,000 results

PS2 failure
1,140,000 results
defeats
PSP failure
1,130,000 results

Moral of this thread: PSP failure is less likely than the PS2 failure. And we all know how badly the PS2 failed. Now go and put all your money on the PSP, its my "Lock of this Generation!" I'll post a giant lock later to show you just how serious I am about this.

1271
FF has a huge following, with the advent of the next generation of consoles I can't see why FF on the 360 would sell any differently to FF on the PS3.
I don't think it matters which system they're on, if its an exclusive deal (most likely) then they'll have to purchase that system to play FF(n+1).

Sure, the 360 library favours  the American gamers, but give the Japanese gamers a major franchise like FF as an exclusive and I'm sure they'll be able to sell more units over in Japan.

How hard is that to fathom?

Then you need to look at either

Designing the website so that it is more efficient. Like any other coding work, there is more than one way to achieve the goal. But there is a marked difference between the quick and dirty solution that requires more maintenance when changes are required, and the solution that took a bit longer, but is more modular and easier to maintain. What you've done is pretty much hand-coding each page, when you should be making use of languages and systems that make managing the website easier - CSS and even content management systems are things worth looking into if you want to automate and minimise the actual website work that you have to do.

OR

Finding someone who is willing to develop the website for you. Since you do have finances perhaps you should leave the web development to someone who can do it more quickly.

EDIT: Just realised you've been banned. Guess that won't stop you from viewing this, but take some time off to work on the website. Bits and pieces of time are fine, but if you can spare a good slab of a few hours without distraction you'd be surprised at how much progress you can make.
