I hope this version of Link is just as good in Brawl.

See, I thought Link was gimped in Melee and not the original.  His back and forward airs landed for better damage and impact, and his bombs were a heck of a lot more explosive.  I honestly thought he was more of a wuss in Melee.  o_O

Do you want to be responsible for that? =P

He was last on the anniversary show, and it was quite hilarious.  They wouldn't let Evan get a word in, it seemed.  I felt kinda bad for him.  You should definitely go back and listen to some of the beginning NWR podcasts (PGC then..), and listen for Mike and Evan's commentary.  Good stuff.

But back on topic...

I really hope we do see other transformations other than the Bee suit and the Boo suit.  This game will own completely if it can rival Super Mario Bros. 3 in terms of that.

Plus, one of my favorite characters to use, Ness, is way too dumbed down in Melee.  Saddened me to see that happen.  He's definitely more balanced in the first Smash.

But man, I love my Ice Climbers.

Whoa, man.  I didn't say I prefer SSB over SSBM.  I said I prefer how it feels over SSBM.  Totally different concept.  I love Melee more for the simple fact that it oozes with TONS of crap that brings a smile to my face.  But SSB definitely plays and feels better.  Melee is way too fast.

Ya know, I just got through playing a few matches in the original Smash Bros. on N64, and I have to say... I definitely prefer how that game feels over Melee -- so it's definitely good to hear that Sakurai is slowing down the pace on Brawl.  Other than some framerate issues going on when 4 players are going at it in the original, the game's speed is much MUCH better than Melee's.  Haha, and I laughed when I pulled out a bumper to throw at my foe.  Made me happy to see that.  ^_^

I can't wait for Brawl!

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Disc Read Errors? On MY Wii?

My Wii froze on me just the other day after I had downloaded F-Zero X.  Blah, oh well.  All is fine it seems, though.

I honestly think Nintendo needs to get someone in their group of 1st party devs to start work on a new 1080 Snowboarding game using this thing PRONTO.

1659
That is true, Ceric.  And that's why I love RPG's that keep a "journal" of sorts ... to catalog your travels.  Pokemon does this, why can't more?  Just keeping up with  say the last three major steps would be enough.

Edit: GP makes possibly one of the best posts of all time.

Do you ever listen to the podcast?  I'm hoping you do, 'cause it's awesome beyond belief, but when Evan is on.. yeah, he thinks WAY too deep into things sometime.  There's a reason why everyone kept getting on to you that one time during the anniversary show, Evan.  :P

I think it's great having Evan on there, though.  He creates a sort of diversion from the way everyone else thinks.  Counter-balancing, I suppose.  But it makes for one heck of an interesting podcast.  ^_^

Hopefully in Brawl, Sakurai is going to allow us to do air throws.  That'd give us a total of 8 different throws to work with this time around.  I'm all for it!

And with the Wii selling like hotcakes... it's all very possible.

1663
Could you imagine that if it all became reality?

The main Final Fantasy series, Dragon Quest series, AND the brand new flagship Golden Sun series... ALL on Nintendo's console....

Gah, I think I just asploded.  o_O

1664
Oh gawd, that is true.

They need to just ditch that online golf stuff they're doing and focus on making Golden Sun the best RPG experience ever.

I'm dead serious in wanting this RPG series to be long-running just like Final Fantasy.  Camelot could do amazing things with it.  All the characters have great personality.  Far better than some FFes I've played.

I'm assuming you read about the same thing I read about today then...  :P

I really REALLY seriously hope that Camelot does in fact have a new Golden Sun in the works.  Whether it's for DS or Wii, I don't care.  I just want a conclusion to the awesome storyline that is Golden Sun.  Then after that, pull a Square-Enix and make Golden Sun Nintendo's "Final Fantasy".  I could see a long series just like FF created out of that style of RPG.  Golden Sun rocks!

I definitely loved the speed of SSB a heck of a lot more than I did in SSBM.  I'm glad to see that Sakurai is slowing down the game a bit.  I've read somewhere that it's about 80% the speed of Melee.  And that's great.

1667
Mashiro, I just wanted to say I completely understand what you've been talking about concerning Zelda.  I, too, agree that Nintendo shouldn't answer as if Zelda might or might not come to the Wii.  It's the fact that they seem to be lollygagging around the topic.  The Wii SHOULD get a Zelda built from the ground up -- just as all previous Nintendo systems have gotten.

I just wanna know this bullcrap that Matt Cassamassina was touting for E3 concerning a Nintendo franchise being brought back from the "dead".  Kid Icarus? Punch-Out!!? Mach Rider?  What's the deal, Matt?  We've gotten no such thing thus far.  Grr.

Ah, wow.  Left Field Productions... we haven't heard from those guys in a LONG time.  Hmm.. hopefully this "Nitrobike" shtick turns out to be pretty cool.  They are a pretty good dev after all.

I personally think this will be the case also.  Unless Sakurai decides to weaken a few of her attacks... AND slow her the heck down.  Gah.  o_O

Nintendo Gaming / RE: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
« on: July 08, 2007, 03:04:25 AM »
I just finished Twilight Princess for the first time a week ago, and now that I've had time to reflect on my experience with the game... here's what I think about this whole ordeal of which is better (OoT or TP), that you guys are creating.

First off, let me say that Majora's Mask was my favorite Zelda game of all time with A Link to the Past as my second favorite.  Majora's Mask has had THE best storyline of any Zelda game to date, and it's characters were brought to life (finally) because of a particular Dan Owsen not doing the translation that time around as he did for the travesty that was Ocarina of Time's characters... ugh.

Twilight Princess is now my favorite Zelda game of all time.  The reason being that the game is extremely epic in scope alone.  The vast worlds, incredible music, lovable (and hateful) characters, and much MUCH deeper gameplay are all of the reasons for its epic scope.  True, there were a couple of dungeons that seemed a bit rushed (the Temple of Time being one -- which originally was supposed to be in Ocarina of Time).  But the puzzles involved in each dungeon this time around were all a bit more complex when compared to puzzles in Ocarina of Time.  Now, I still fully believe Majora's Mask has the best puzzle dungeons, but Twilight Princess is a VERY close second.  And finally, the game just oozes with depth -- whether it be the transformation ability that Link has to play with TWO different styles of attacking (wolf and human forms) or even the skill sets that Link has the ability to learn -- all are amazing additions to the 3D Zelda formula.  And in my opinion... having a great storyline, wonderful characters and interaction, complex dungeons puzzles, amazing graphical upgrade (over OoT anyway), very inspired level-designed music, and the tried-and-true Zelda gameplay intact makes this THE best Zelda game of all time.  Hands down.

Ya know, this absolutely has to be the best week of updates we have gotten thus far.  I sure hope Sakurai can keep up this type of awesomeness.

1673
I think the Wii remote (sideways) layout will be this by default:

D-pad left/right: Move character (of course)
D-pad up: Jump
D-pad down: crouch (double tap to fall through platforms)
1 button: Specials (double tap for those few characters with Smash specials)
2 button: Standard attacks
1+2 buttons: Smash attacks
A button: Shield (motion left/right to roll left/right - same for air dodges)(also thrust down for sidestep)
B trigger: Grab/throw

Motion for dodging makes more sense than for attacking.  Attacking just seems like it requires more precision.

If you pressed both buttons it would be just like doing a smash attack...

Oh well...

Not necessarily, Mike.  You could always double-tap the D-pad and hit the B button.  Would work just as well that way, too.

1675
Ah, I was wondering how tilt and smash attacks would work with just the remote only.

Now we know.  :P
