Chrono Cross! Playing Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes has recharged my love for this series, and I'll probably play Cross again in the next several months. For now, it goes in the collection.

Hopefully they'll develop games for Nintendo platforms.

Bioshock (Steam sale), Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, and Super Mario 3D World are my current Now Playing titles. I'm seriously impressed by the scope and atmosphere in Bioshock. It's groovy.

That game is always a year away.
That may be so, but I'm looking forward to it. I follow Ben Collins, aka "The Stig" from BBC's Top Gear, on Twitter, and he's been posting updates on the game. I believe he's one of the chaps responsible for the telemetry and other auto-centric data concerning Project CARS. And the man knows his stuff, too. Hope it turns out great.

Oh, you know where I'm going with this...

StarTropics: The Return

Platform: Wii U

Developer: Retro Studios (with the ex-Naughty Dog artists given full artistic reign)

Wants/Goals: It's a re-imagining of the StarTropics series and brand new sequel - set in the style of the Uncharted games, but with Nintendo's whimsical nature layered on top (looks like and progresses like an Uncharted, but doesn't completely play like one.) Graphically speaking, it looks fairly realistic, but still contains that Nintendo whimsy that makes their games shine. It's colourful, but not too much that it blows your mind-thoughts away (when I look outside my own window, I see LOTS of colour everywhere - not so much brown.)

Plot: Mike Jones returns to Coralcola Island (C-Island) years later to find that the previously rescued Argonian alien children that were released from the cubes, have been kidnapped, cloned, and used to create a menacing alien army threatening to not only take over the South Seas, but to use and harvest the planet, too. Where does this threat come from, you ask? Why... Zoda wasn't the main guy in charge, after all. His higher up has sent a new beastly burden to plunder the world, and this time Zop (get it? Soda/Pop...Zoda/Zop) leads the retaliation.

Locations: Just as in the first StarTropics (and also how Uncharted progresses), the game plays out in chapters - a stage by stage affair. So, if you miss a heart container, that's it...you missed your chance. Game starts out, obviously, in Coralcola Island where several chapters are spent plunging head first, deep into the trap-laden, treasure chest-filled jungles and caves. As it progresses, you'll visit various other locations and islands in the South Seas via Jones' submarine. There's also a small chapter where you'll get to ride on a dolphin! This is a sort of change from the game's normal progression, as it's a more brisk, faster-paced, obstacle course kind of level. The dolphin, by the way, is the lost son you rescued for the mother dolphin - who ended up saving YOUR life at the end of StarTropics. Also, along the way, Dr. J (Mike's father) helps out in various chapters, aiding Mike in clearing certain obstacles or puzzles, and he also creates new gadgets and weapons for Mike to use and fight with. And finally, Peter, the talking parrot, returns in a couple of chapters, too, to help aid in the darkness/caves - Mike has Peter carry a lantern, of course.

Gameplay: Now here is where striking differences start to occur between this game and the Uncharted series. Mike, who obviously doesn't use guns, carries a yo-yo (the Island Star) as his primary weapon. And just as in previous games, Mike can pick up a variety of weapons strewn about the South Seas and/or dropped by fallen Argonian clones such as baseball bats, baseballs, alien laser blasters, shurikens, torches, slingshots, and even newer items, too - such as coconut bombs! One drastic difference this time, however, is there should be certain key moments in the storyline where Mike comes across an especially hidden treasure chest. These chests carry certain key items that Mike keeps on him at all times. For instance, the Reflective Mirror is now a permanent shield that Mike can choose whether or not to carry at all times (let's say he gets this early on in Chapter 3.) The Rod of Sight will also return - especially so as the Argonian clones have discovered ways of cloaking themselves! As for key items and new usages, the Cleats should return as an item that allows Mike to speed boost - clearing certain environmental puzzles by running through loops blazingly fast, or even wall jumping/running ala Prince of Persia (seriously, this game will have it all.)

As for his primary weapon, it's upgradeable just as it was in previous games, but now the upgrade stays permanent. And yes, there's wall-covering and cover-shooting. There NEEDS to be. After all, some of the Argonian clones and other enemies are going to be indestructible - you might have to stealthily sneak past in certain chapters as the only way to advance. This along with the previous weapons/items are how Mike will battle his evil-doers this time around - whimsical, yet serious in nature.

Puzzles! This is where the game truly shines. Mike, a full-blown archaeologist now (all thanks to his dad, Dr. J) carries certain archaeological tools on him at all times. These tools will help him solve all sorts of environmental puzzles laid out all across the South Seas as he progresses through the story. He'll use brushes to wipe off dusty surfaces (using the Wii U GamePad screen, of course), mattocks/picks to bust through rock/debris, secateurs to cut vines (to swing from), trays to shift sand to find special keys (moving the GamePad back and forth), and Mike will even carry a small backpack sprayer to wash away certain elements in the environment unveiling puzzle clues or hidden passages (there will always be small pools or puddles of water nearby to refill the sprayer - stand in them to refill it.) I feel like all of these aspects will really drive home the notion that Mike is an archaeologist - thus giving the game a true feeling of discovery as you progress through each chapter.

So, yeah. StarTropics. Anyone know how I can send this to Retro Studios? I'm serious about this game being made.

Blast, UncleBob... help a brother out. I pay $85 for 500 minutes/N&W/MtM/Unlimited Data&Text - grandfathered plan from AT&T.

I'd love cheaper, though.

Ah, VG Cats. Love it. I met Scott Ramsooooooooomir once. Nice guy. Quiet. He drew Leo as Mario holding a plunger, saying, "Ewww..." for me - which I have hanging above the loo.

Also, I hate Mass Effects ground combat. It's terrible. Star Fox x Mass Effect? Eck, no thanks.

I'm excited about this game. And nickmitch is right - (as long as you're a fan of the genre) everyone needs a good button masher every now and then. I adored the TMNT games on the 'Cube years ago. So, I'm eagerly looking forward to this.

In the end neither of them are close to Star Trek yet and I can't say anything about Google's because I haven't used it overly much.
I was annoyed by how Siri couldn't understand certain words I would say. Then after switching to Android, Google Now is a godsend. It understands about 99 percent of every word I speak into the mic - even with background noise going on. Siri couldn't do this.

I've got a friend who's getting the Wind Waker bundle before the year ends. So, yeah.

Visited three separate Nintendo Zone locations today, and I got...

None.

Not a single blasted StreetPass out of any of them. I did, however, get one StreetPass from carrying my 2DS with me while I was in a Walmart (ugh, hate that store.) So, there's that. I don't know why it didn't work correctly. So strange.

I, too, want to see a hybrid design console when Ninty step up to bat again in several years. Everything BnM mentioned fits my own description to a "T" about how I think the Big N need to go about their next console.

Everything I hear from my local friends, who I clearly define as "western gamers", dislike Nintendo consoles, but love everything about their handhelds. What's even more puzzling are a few statements I've heard from them as of late such as, "I want my handheld to do one thing well, and that's games."

Hmmm, games, you say? Strange as that's what their consoles do well, too. But apparently the home console space needs to do more than just games for them - which is fine, mind you. I feel like the Wii U does almost everything else outside of playing games that I want. My only request is the ability to stream content through DNLA from my PC. But seriously, it's ok without. Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, Amazon Instant, web browsing, Miiverse. That's plenty! Holy needy people, Batman.

But yeah, handheld hybrid console. Do I think it would sell to the market that has abandoned Nintendo in the console space? Possibly. Three of my local friends, who are big in Ninty's portables, told they would indeed go for a hybrid-type console. A Vita-sized controller with a TV box that streams the content via HDMI to the telly? Yes, please.

And lastly, Manny, I wholeheartedly agree on the streamlining their game development studios. I think this approach would not only give us more games overall, but even better, tighter, and more incredible experiences, too.

So, yeah. Bring all that shiz together.

I still think we're getting Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon HD early in 2014. And I'm all for it.

I zag when you zig, though. Now, if the two of us were to zig at the same time ... that'd be almost like crossing the streams.

Khush, we can't go destroying the universe now. Come on.

Definitely agree with you, Ceric, on Monster Hunter 4 for Wii U. I really hope Capcom do that again with this new sequel.

As for the console, I'm quite happy with my purchase. There were some rough spots in the beginning with mine - system crashes/freezing, GamePad not syncing properly - but those two problems have been sorted out with all of the firmware updates. Mine's a very stable system because of it.

I've had some really fun experiences with the console, too - both single-player and multi with my family and/or friends. Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge was a brutally hard experience, but I had a blast all the way through. The almost 100 hours that I poured into Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate were fantastic, too - and I'm nowhere near finished.

Mario 3D World has blown me away with its brilliant gameplay, music, and graphics. I also purchased LEGO City Undercover back earlier in the year, and I just recently got around to starting the game. I had no clue I had that charming of a GTA-like sandbox game sitting on my shelf for so long. Bloody fantastic experience.

And to finish, I'm in love with the Pro Controller. So much so that I bought an adapter that allows me to connect it to my PC - which I'm using to play Steam games and Final Fantasy XIV: ARR. The Pro feels excellent in my hands...almost as good as the GameCube controller. Ergonomically, it's the best controller of the three new consoles. Just wish it had a tiny mic built in - that would help with games such as Mario 3D World requiring me to use the GamePad for GamePad-specific levels (curse you, Captain Toad!) Don't think I don't appreciate the GamePad, though. Games like Nintendo Land knock it out of the park using it, Miiverse has very creative uses, and Off-TV play is king. Premier League football on the telly while I play Mario on the 'Pad? Yes, please.

Brilliant job, Nintendo. Thank you.

I have held it both ways.  Pushing the Triggers is very uncomfortable for me.  I wish this wasn't the case.  Right now I think Nintendo has the best controller.  I wish you could get a Nintendo classic Controller Pro to work on the PC and MAC.  Or the new Wii U classic controller.  I would buy and use that in a heart beat.
Spak, you can!  I use my Wii U Pro for PC gaming on Steam and for FFXIV 2.0. It works wonderfully well!

YES.

I want a sequel to The Adventure of Link so very badly. I'd love to see the "new" Hyrule (since, as has been mentioned already, the original Hyrule has become a barren wasteland) in glorious 3D with the same gameplay style and mechanics. Give us a gigantic world map to traverse with lots of locations to "go into" to explore in a quasi-2.5D graphical style. Yes yes yes.

I can't wait to see Xbox One and PS4 sales drastically drop off into nothingness come January/February. Going to be a grand time.
Schadenfreude is bad for your soul. Don't do this or your will turn into jaded cynic (the most pitiful creature in my opinion).
I'm sorry if that sounded as if I'll get pleasure from that situation, but I'm more looking forward to the actual numbers than anything. I just don't think this industry is stable any more. As has been mentioned in another thread on this forum - I, too, wonder which third parties will bite the dust this generation. It's getting quite scary.

I can't wait to see Xbox One and PS4 sales drastically drop off into nothingness come January/February. Going to be a grand time. It's then that everyone will see just how big each respective console manufacturer's audiences truly are.

Right now, there's about three-and-a-half to four million dedicated Nintendo fans...still. It'll be interesting to see the size of MS/Sony's crew.

BnM, you must have not been in the mood, as I thought it was one of the best BNNs yet. Especially the sliding down the fire department pole scene, combined with Peralta's quick-witted reply to Charles' question. Hilarious stuff.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is definitely my favourite new show this year. Easy.
