Nintendo Gaming / RE: Developer/Editor Feedback regarding the NRC
« on: November 01, 2005, 01:10:06 PM »
Ian, I have trouble following that logic, considering Nintendogs VASTLY outsold both Eternal Darkness and MGS: TTS.  Nintendogs alone probably made well over twice the sales of those two games, combined.

Thing is, Eternal Darkness and Geist are both pretty niche titles, they're not something that's going to appeal to everyone, even if it is rated mature.  They have plenty of generic mature games on the other systems more likely to attract attention.

Okay, kind of a random question but something in this thread sparked it.
Does anyone else not like the Daily Show?  I mean, am I the only one who doesn't find Jon Stewart even remotely funny.  He says something bordering on the other side of clever, far from actually humorous, and makes a funny face.  THAT IS NOT A JOKE YOU GUYS.
Also, does anyone else find the Colbert Report to be infinitely funnier?

BigJim, you cannot honestly justify saying that one epic game = one micro game (if that's what you want to call them).  In most cases, games like Mario Party or Metroid Pinball probably don't take as much time or money to develop as games like Zelda or whatever Silicon Knights had in mind.  It's ridiculous to suggest that Nintendo should have as many 50 hour quests as it does ten hour high score/quickie games.  One epic game is probably equivalent to three smaller games, if not more.  One just requires many more resources.  A balance is not equality, it's a reasonable ratio.

Also, vudu: KOTOR sucked all kinds of ass.  One of the most boring games I've ever played.

It's apparently easy to program for.  He just doesn't want to put forth the creative effort, sounds like.

Possession sounds retarded.  An army of zombies?  That only works with Bruce Campbell, man, and when you're fighting the army.  That's what zombies are there for.  Fighting AGAINST.

The definition of a screenplay:  The script for a movie, including descriptions of scenes and some camera directions.

Implying that a script does not necessarily include those things.  Screenplay is the term you use when referring to film, generally.  That or shooting script.  Kinda nitpicky, but I wanted to know what the point of writing a Metroid script was, if he had any words in mind.
I know what I am talking about I am a film major yes okay.

Wasn't MGS a remake of a game from the Playstation 1, released around the time a new installment was being made for the PS2?
That was a bad idea from the start.

Also, stop whining, Nemo.

A movie only has a script if it has words.  Metroid should have few, if any, words.  Now, it might have a SCREENPLAY, detailing what happens in the movie.  Is that what you meant?  A screenplay?

There shouldn't be a script.
I think Theron would be good, and Thurman would be pretty good, but I don't think either of them fit Samus quite right.
I dunno.  I'd say they pick an unknown actress if this movie didn't need to rely so heavily on who's playing Samus to get publicity.

I did a paper on Toshio Iwai (Electroplankton creator) and the guy is a genius.  It's a pity more people aren't buying this, because it's bound to be great stuff.  I'm definitely getting a copy.
Besides, the cost to make Electroplankton was probably ridiculously low.  They were probably on a profit margin after a thousand sales, if not less.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Mario vs. Bowser (DS game idea...)
« on: October 27, 2005, 08:36:58 AM »
I think it's a spectacular idea, it'd be crazy fun.  Thing is, it sounds like pretty much a solely multiplayer game, which is hardly ever fun if you don't have someone around.  It could be a mini-game or a special feature they impliment in another game, but it sounds way too complex for a side-project.  I think it could be great fun, I'm just not sure how practical it is.

I'd get this if court stuff didn't bore me silly.

I'm sure it's fun, but I've just got too much stuff to get.  Alas.

I didn't think it really mattered, since it was still on the main page. Gameplay forum is empty.

I've never really gotten into Advance Wars, but I love the Fire Emblem series.  I have no other basis of comparison.
I highly recommend at least a rent.  The dialogue and story in Fire Emblem alone, all the characters, are enough to make it interesting, even if you don't like the gameplay style.

Definitely Earthbound, Mario RPG, some of the Zelda games I missed, Goldeneye and maybe Perfect Dark, a few other games.  I'll have a more comprehensive list later.

As for me, it still seems like the best possible spin-off of the Metroid franchise.  I mean, it's been waiting for years to come out of hiding.  It was in the back of everyone's mind.  It was gonna come.

I never edge guard.  My friend and I have a rule that you don't edge guard until you get to 90% damage, and even then I'm reluctant to do it.

Ian, the DS wasn't spectacular to start because it didn't need to be.  They needed to focus on fighting the PSP in Japan, not in the states where it wasn't even out yet.  DS was selling well without anything other than a port.  Now they have tons of quality games out and will continue to be several steps ahead of the PSP.  No reason to complain, it wasn't a fluke that DS succeeded.  It was cool enough on its own to sell.  Lots of gamers really loved the mini-games on Mario (I know my mother has played that more than any other game I've gotten, Meteos and such are too intense for her).  DS has succeeded and that's all there is to it.  Has-beens are irrelevant, because what has happened won't change.
