General Gaming / RE: Sad times

I'm not saying that it's because "no one uses Linux" (and I read your post), I mean Windows is more popular as in it's the mainstream choice. I've got a feeling that "hackers" or whatever you want to label the people who write/spread viruses as, have more respect for people who use Linux, due to the fact that it's basically created by it's users, and it's free (most of the time). A lot of viruses for Windows are written because they see a flaw, and exploit it, so that Microsoft has to fix said flaw, because Windows costs a good bit of money (again, most of the time) and because it's so mainstream.

Windows is "more susceptible" to viruses than Linux or Mac for one reason - because it's the most popular. The people making these viruses build them on a machine running Windows, for Windows. I don't think it's really the same with Wal-Mart. I shop at Wal-Mart, because I have to (not because they have a monopoly, since they don't have one - but because there's about 30 of them in my county!), but I hate the company with a passion.

Go buy an Arcade 360 from Wal-Mart, and return it when you get your old one back, or within 30 days if you don't get yours back soon enough. Actually, buy one at Target, since I'm pretty sure their return policy is 90 days. GameStop's is 7, so don't even consider them.

That's an awesome price, though I believe I've actually seen it cheaper before, albeit it may have been a refurb. Still though, it was like $1500, including shipping. I think I'm definitely going to go with a Samsung as well, but I'm probably not going to buy a new TV until I sell my house. I may even go for a 65-71 incher. I believe my Toshiba is 52" (native 1920x1080, though it doesn't do 1080p, but it has pretty good deinterlacing), which was huge 3 years ago, but now it's not that impressive.

Edit - wow, 3 HDMI, 2 component, and VGA (and 2 S video, for the camcorder and maybe a VCR should I ever need to hook one up), I could get rid of my component switcher if I had all of those inputs.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Official Wii Sales Thread

I thought the Wii would have been #1 in the US by now, for total LTD sales, but Microsoft has been doing very well for the past several months. PS3 is an absolute joke, at best. I like how they always say that it's on par with the 360's first year sales, not in the US it isn't, maybe it's sold half as many in the first year, again at best.

My next TV will be a DLP rear project - why? I think flat panels are kind of stupid, since all of your other component are going to stick out around/under it. Also, DLPs are the only TVs that are completely free from the possibility of burn-in.

Resistance? Isn't that what consumers are doing with all those PS3s on the stores shelves? They should change the name to "Please Buy a PS3". My Best Buy *still* has the majority of the 185+ systems that they had piled up for Black Friday. I'd say they still have at least 170 of them.

They don't need to port the game, they can emulate the N64, or at least interpret it. Konami released Castlevania SOTN for XBLA, they didn't need to talk to Sony about it.

You don't need to mount it, it's not a CD image, it's a ROM, an emulator, and a manual, compressed and packed into one file. I don't think anyone read my post, or maybe some don't understand it - .BIN essenitally means *nothing*. Nintendo could have chosen to name these .VC files, or .WII, or anything that they wanted, they chose .BIN, there is no CUE, and there would be no need or reason for one.

No, if you changed the name of the file, the Wii would not recognize it. I was referring to .BIN that is associated with a .CUE as well. Can you even change the filenames on VC games? I would imagine that they're write protected files, so renaming wouldn't work, maybe I'm wrong as I've never tried, and maybe that protection (if it exists) is lost once you transfer from file from the Wii's internal flash to the SD card.

BIN just means binary - you're thinking of ISOs, where a cuesheet (CUE) is generally only for CD/DVD burning. There's no real association between the two. Also, a cuesheet (.cue file) is just a text file that tells the burning software what mode to write, where the ISO (.bin) is located, where to separate the tracks, if need be, etc. You can even edit the cuesheet, change the target file to say, .XZY (or anything), and change the associated file's extension to match what you made it say, and it'll work just fine.

Looks pretty good, nice and fluid. Hopefully you can disable the aiming reticule like you can in Ghost Squad. I'm gonna be balls deep in that game when it comes out.

Jesus. Did France win the Nintendo lottery or something? Maybe that's where Japan's missing units have been going.

That's actually a pretty cool discovery. You can buy additional battery packs for the Nyko kit, and it wouldn't be very hard to solder in some wires to extend the connection from the charger itself, so you could charge the batteries while they were in the Wiimote...of course it would be easier to swap the batteries out.

You don't need this (and probably would not want it) for Wii piracy. There have been Wii modchips since about 3 months after the system came out in the US. This is all about homebrew, plain and simple, it's basically what the whole convention is about, which is why they showed demos of Linux on the 360 taking advantage of the 360's 3D abilities, instead of talking about playing copied games.

I don't think this is something that they can possibly patch, it's a hardware issue. It can be fixed in newer systems, possibly.

That's awesome. I read about it before, but that's the first time I saw the video. This could lead to tons of awesome, awesome stuff. Hopefully someone develops a media center program with access to SD storage, or even a USB HDD, then I get get rid of my gigantic Xbox...maybe.

I'm sure the DS connects via ad-hoc WiFi (same way that it connects to another DS), it doesn't have any other wireless capabilities.
