Was having a great time with Bravely Default until I got to chapter 5--man talk about killing the game.  Not only do you have to repeat dungeons and bosses but they amped the enemies too much==requiring to grind quite a bit.

Grinding wouldn't be much of an issue but there's no "smart" AI autobattle system in place, you can only mimic your last moves which is nice enough for the first 1/2 of the game but at this point in chapter 5 enemies can easily knock out your entire party if your not careful.

Think I'm going take a break from it and play some Injustice since I just bought that for the PC during Amazon's sale.

Profit, Nintendo always skipped the "extras" like the CGI is the upcoming SSB even though it generates 100's of millions.  Nintendo reasons for cutting them out were a joke, something like cutting them out because they end up online :()  lol.

Retro tried a couple of times to green lit AAA games but so far Nintendo's shot just about all of the down and we ended up DKC which was great.  And Nintendo let go a lot of it's 2nd party studios like Factor 5 (Rogue Sqaudron), Left Field, and even Rare.

Kinda why I not surprised we haven't seen another Metroid Prime game.

Glad to hear it but you could save quite a bit buying a used WII U as well--bought mine last year for $180 and it came with two games and WII U PRO and an nice plastic cover/stand for the Gamepad--I'm sure you can score them even lower than that now.

Also, what most people gripe about was the fact you couldn't play WII eshop games on the Gamepad or any other WII game for that matter.  And you can't use the WII U Pro controller.

Nintendo released "enhanced" VC versions and required you to pay them a few dollars to get Gamepad support but I didn't see the big deal because you can still play them using WII mode on the WII U.

Note you should have an SD card handy for the transfer.

Smash Bros. and Mario Kart. were also on the GC and it didn't save that.

Not sure if losing Donkey Kong TF is that big of an deal since there's already two solid platformers that were/will be released by the x-mas (Rayman and Mario).

Rayman could use a few million more sales :(.

GTA crushed all while Puppeteer and Wonderful 101 flopped.  I wonder if Wonderful 101 would have sold a bit more if the name wasn't so "Japanese" cutesy.  After Viewitful Joe you would think game companies would rename games coming to NA and Europe.

A title like 101 Heroes might have sold better in the states IMO.

Rayman Legends looks like another flop.  Less than 50K across all three platforms with WIIU leading at 20K.  Damn that's not good at all for Ubisoft since Splinter Cell isn't selling much neither, their last hope lies with AC Black Flag and Watchdogs.

Loads of software underperformed.  Lost Planet 3, Splinter Cell Black List,  and Dragon's Crown all failed to sell.

Excitebike :).

Wouldn't mind another RC PRO AM neither but I'm not sure if Nintendo owns the IP or does MS now?

PS4--clear winner.  2/3 of the market will head to PS4 while MS makes a little headway early on but finds itself without the European and Japanese markets and developers.  The WII U will end up another GC, E rated titles will sell but the hardcore titles won't.

Sony would have to do something really st00pid at this point to lose the race IMO.  The vita will continue to bomb in the US and only pick up a bit in Japan.

186
? 101-- labled Action strategy same as pikmin though in Pikmin's case there' more adventuring (finding pieces).  Should have spaced out the two games by at least 6 months IMO and sales data shows it.

Not saying 101 would have sold that much more but releasing an AA title right on top of it didn't help an new IP in anyway.
----------------

Kinda like releasing SRIV a few weeks prior to GTA V.  One game is always going be left in the shadow.

Doubt the 2DS is going move units, the 3ds can be found for $100-120 range and the XL has been on sale a few times for $130-140.  It's no longer going be portable and without the clam shell design it's going end up getting scratched and dinged a lot more especially with kids.

Better off just redesigning the 3ds hinge's/battery life issues and updating the OS (namely you should be able to lock out 3DS in options so kids under 8 can't turn it on by just using the slider).

---------------------------

The WII U bundle doesn't work for me neither, it's great for new gamers but any hardcore Zelda Fan already has the game and the HD remade Wind Walker doesn't offer much "new" to warrant another playthrough for me (beat it twice).

Hopefully there's going be an Mario World WII U Bundle Or Pikmin or DKCTF.  Nintendo usually pretty good about Mario Bundles so hopefully by Black Friday there will be one available.

--------------------
A few things that worry me, Nintendo needs to work on it's pacing--releasing three platformers and two strategy games atop of each other instead of spacing them out?  Would have left DKCTF until 2014 and filled that void with something else.

Unity doesn't have the toolset that comes with Unreal 3 or Cry Engine 3.  There's third parties tools you can purchase but that just add to overhead costs.  I guess Unreal 3 will remain king for the next 3/4 years then the shift towards UE4.

Doesn't matter if it's physical or not:  PS3 games require mandatory install files and some games are freaking huge and even few smaller ones like 2-4GB isn't to uncommon.

Is your 1.5GB dive 3.5?  You really do need an 2.5 internal drive replacement vs an 3.5 external drive because some games will not install on the external drive.  Also you'll have to partition that 1.5TB drive into fat32 (into 16GB sections).

Why did you buy the slim PS3 12GB?  The internal drive (I believe you meant 12GB or did you mean 160?) will be filled up with a couple of games, games like GTA 5 with eats 8GB's alone.

You could have gotten the 320GB ps3 slim at that price or you could have gotten the GTA 5 500GB bundle for a little more $270.

--------------------
You could go with an external drive (usb) for the PS3 but it's format is a lowly fat32 format and some games refuse to install to external drives anyhow--which annoyed me and forced me to up my internal drive of my Fat PS3 awhile back.

"This is why online multiplayer in Mario platformers is still a long ways off because these games just aren't doable online at the moment."

:)--indie games have been doing MP platforming jumping for years not to mention Rayman Legends is going have Online MP, just Nintendo doesn't add online.  It's more of an Japanese thing where online MP isn't as big of a deal as Local MP.

Really doesn't have to deal with netcode at all since that's really up to the end user.

General Gaming / Re: Any Vita owners here?
« on: August 22, 2013, 01:16:36 PM »
Do you already have PS+, kinda the saving grace for the VITA iMO.  Tons of free games plus big discounts on current games like UMVC3 or Dead or Alive 5 for $10.

The 3DS have some killer titles too but Nintendo games don't drop in prices as fast so you'll be paying $30 a title.

Also if you planning on buying either one you can always buy used systems--Vita's go for around $120-140 and 3DS's go around $100-130.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Metroid Prime Trilogy for $85 Question
« on: August 19, 2013, 07:40:56 AM »
Most likely you'll only get the standard version if you buy used.

Are you buying it for an collection or just to play the game?  If you're just interested in the games you could also just go with GC versions of MP 1 and 2 and buy MP3 (WII) for cheap--like $-30-40 for all three games.

At E3, Nintendo did have those huge ass displays?  Did UB buy himself an lifesize Mario Kart ;0.

195
Bleh, you can still buy the European copy for cheap though.  It was an good game but not worth over MSRP IMO.

Got my copy for less than $30.

196
Nintendo's not known to throw money around even if it means failure for the WII U.  At this point in time it's going became the next DC--which I loved--dead before it even begins.

There's little reason to try to buy developer support at this time, better off just riding it out and try again with the next console (early 2016 is my guess).

197
Actually there was a couple times the 3DS (first one) hit the $100 mark but that's with mail-in-rebates or GC offers.

I recall Citi Bank CC had a promo going for $99 3ds if you opened an account with them.  Target had them on sale for $170 plus $40 GC + $30 mail in rebate--hense the $99 deal.

198
"first in-house HD device"

? Might be better of hitting craigslist and buying an PS3 or Xbox 360 since the game selection is huge and cheaper at the same time.

Been holding out of buying WII U as well, can already get them at $200 used on craigslist but I'm waiting for an redesign model--one that allows me to use HDMI output and RCA at the same time (for my headphones).

199
Rumble, drains battery like you wouldn't believe and MS has dual motors to boot.  There's not much use of rumble in WII U games and it's a feature you have to actually enable but I'm guessing if a game used the rumble/motion controls heavily you'll likely be getting a lot less than 80 hours.

I actually prefer AA's to built-in since I'm the type of gamer that plays longer sessions so in the middle of the game I can easily switch out AA's vs having to deal with the USB cord hanging all over.

Plus I already over a shoe box of rechargeable AA's anyhow so it doesn't cost me extra.
