General Gaming / Micrsoft is now doomed?
« on: July 05, 2003, 03:35:12 PM »
LOL,

Love how nintendo fanboys think this as positive when nintendo themselves consider this bad.

Considering how much nintendo is losing with privating done on the xbox (you can private N64, SNES, and of course GBA).

And considering how small these files are, you can private 100's of them within no-time.

It's bad for everyone.

GBP has been out since mid-march in japan.

That's why alot of people imported it (that and it also comes in multiple colors unlike the Black that the US is getting).

" Nintendo dicreased the royalties for Konami. "

Huh.  SK is developing the game and nintendo is the publisher (meaning it's going be a 1st party game since SK is owned by Nintendo).

Konami basically just leased Nintendo the use of it's title/characters.

Think of it like those CD-I's Zelda games.  Philps (I think) bought the rights from nintendo.  Do you really think Nintendo had anything to do with those games?  Hell no, and even if they'll denial it anyhow .  I would.

I thought the GBP would save the GC, guess not.

It's really but a rough few weeks for the GC but I think August will be the month to look out for (FFCC is going be released on Aug 8th).  If it doesn't sell then then Nintendo's going be in some trouble.

Nintendo Gaming / Too Human?

I wouldn't be surprised to see this game "official on hold" since the team is currently working on MGS: Twin Snakes--which isn't a surprised.

ED really didn't sell to hot so Nintendo decided to go with a BRAND name game.

"the GC 2's going to have a much better and wider selection"  LOL--that's the funniest statement yet.

Like I said, Nintendo LACKING in CERTAIN areas and I don't see that changing even though nintendo has the funds to change it.

As for N64 Vrs PS--it wasn't just because it was released first (namely Sony only had a million fanbase of 3 Million by the time N64 was released).  It's advantage was the N64 lack of titles, price (PS was $50 lower and the games were priced at $40 vrs $60-75 for some N64 titles).  Also nintendo was retarded and had a fallout with Squaresoft.  When Squaresoft left alot of fans left as well, not to mention the other 3rd parties switching like Enix.  Also this began nintendo's whole "RPG's are out" and then canceled their own RPG series like Mother 64 for example.

What's worse was the whole pokemon craze that went on with the N64.  Nintendo somehow managed to pump out 4 pokemon titles but the mature titles were lacking.  Hell a few mature titles like SIN wasn't even released in the USA.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sony new the importance of 3rd party support.

Actually the PS3 isn't stated for 2005.  Sony stated it's 2006 but it might release a few months prior to compete against Xbox 2 (us release).

Like I said, Nintendo's the one screaming 2005 (spring) but they haven't been the best on releasing on time.

And it's really not going pan out if nintendo launches ahead of Sony since the majority of fans will wait a year.  Dreamcast is prime example of why prelaunching doesn't mean jack.  Nintendo will have to have SOMETHING to gain Sony fans which I dont' see happening.  Square-Enix is pretty much still going be exclusive to Sony which gives them the two biggest games series, DQ and FF.  Then you have the sport jocks, race fans, ect to deal with as well.

I really can't see nintendo competing without additional developers which means dipping into the warchest which doesn't seem likely to happen.  Not yet anyhow .

I love MC.  If it's good Nintendo rumors than he's 100% of it, but if it's negative than he doesn't believe it.

LOOK at the sources.  Each source loops back to this mag, Electronic Design Chain. :0  DUH.

It's called bad journalism.  Can't believe everything you read--sony HAS never stated that the PS3 won't have the Cell Processor--fact.

"April 21, 2003 - At an investor's meeting held today in Japan, Sony unveiled new details on its chip production plans, much of which is centered around the company's next generation Cell processor, scheduled to be used in next generation gaming hardware.
Sony plans to invest 200 billion yen (1.6 billion dollars) over the next three years on cutting-edge processor facilities. Of this, 73 billion (608 million dollars) will be invested this year for the construction of a new microprocessor facility to be located at the company's current microprocessor plant in the Japanese city of Nagasaki. Currently, the plant produces the Graphics Synthesizers used in the PS2.

The new facility will allow for the production of 300 millimeter wafer-based chips utilizing an industry-leading 65-nanometer process technology. Both larger wafer sizes and smaller chip sizes allow for more advanced technology and cost cutting. Mass production at the new facility could begin as early as 2005.

Sony will also be investing in another cutting-edge production plant, this one under operation of Toshiba, one of Sony's partners in gaming hardware crime. This plant is currently being used for the manufacturing of PS2 Emotion Engine Processors. Toshiba itself will initially invest 40 billion yen in the plant to equip it with 300 millimeter wafer production facilities that it expects will be able to produce 12,500 wafers per month starting late Spring/early Summer of 2004. The new facilities are also being developed for the 65 nanometer process, although the company is eyeing a shift to a 45 nanometer process in the future. The entire cost for the upgrade is expected to cost 200 billion yen, with Sony's planned investment currently unknown.

All these investments are centered on the production of the Cell processor, which Sony's press materials once again stipulate is targeted towards next generation computer entertainment systems. Sony made no specific mention of the PS3, though, and when asked about a specific time frame for next generation computer entertainment hardware that makes use of the Cell, Sony reps responded with "No Comment."

The Cell itself seems to be just the starting point for Sony's plans, though, and the new facilities are being designed with broader horizons in view. Sony is eyeing the production of chips for broadband network applications in general, and will also be equipping its new facility with the means of producing general DRAM and CCD and CMOS chips used for imaging technology. As a result, Sony states that these new investments concern not just Sony Computer Entertainment, but the entire Sony Group as a whole.

"

1.6 BILLION-- .

Cell Processor is still coming and that was a freaking April Fool's Joke about it not being in the PS3.

Duh.  It's already going beta at the end of THIS year which gives it plenty of time to work out quirks, and Sony is building a mega-million (can't recall the number but it's over 100 million) production plant just for the upcoming cell processor & HDTV decoder (the HDTV decoder might be for the PS3 but I think it's going be used for those WEGA tv's).  The plant is going be up and running this winter/spring.

As for GC2--I really doubt it's going be released in TIME (the GC was supposed to be released in 2000 and we all know how that turned out).

In fact I think Nintendo doesn't plan on it even.  Still think they are trying to trick MS or Sony into releasing their console premature.

If you think releasing one year ahead is going help, it won't.  DC is a perfect example.  Sony has the fans and the vast majority will just wait a year for the PS3.  So releasing the GC2 early would be a huge mistake IMO.  You really have to wait and release at the EXACT same time (or close ) that way sony can't change hardware specs and will have to release A rated games as well.

General Gaming / Europe not embracing online play.
« on: June 20, 2003, 07:18:47 PM »
MS pays for all of it's servers (hense XBox Live annual fee).

Sony leaves it up to the developers but sony & MS both give loans to game developers making online games.

Nintendo Gaming / Can Nintendo survive not being #1
« on: June 19, 2003, 08:09:50 AM »
Actually there was a DVD player with the GC.  It's called the Q and it was released in Japan and that didn't stop people from chosing the PS2.

Reason why, it has the games that alot of people WANT.  FFX, GT, ect.

What's killing Nintendo?  The failrure to capture certain markets--example sports/RPGs/ect.

Nintendo's like there isn't a fanbase so why bother but you can't gain fans from nothing.  You need exclusive games and you need them at launch--not 2-3 years later like FFCC.

Still shocked that nintendo couldn't get a develope a pokemon clone in time for the GC release.

General Gaming / Is there anything superior about the X-Box or PS2?
« on: June 19, 2003, 07:21:12 AM »
Actually the PS2 can do DTS while in games (SSX was one of the first to use it, GTA VC does as well).  But for progressive scan--no the PS2 doesn't support progressive scan nor will any of the games.  The new model will have a progressive scan DVD player but it's just for movies (worth the extra $20 IMO).

As for ports, lately (last 6-8 months) xbox has been getting the majority in terms of best version with the big exceptation for EA GAMES.  You can just look at IGN's comparassion's charts for them.

The big difference between PS/Xbox and the GC is online.  Both Sony & MS are supporting online games & developers while Nintendo isn't anymore.  Which is kinda-of-a-pisser--Always wanted a MK online with the ablity to make your own tracks & characters.

As for graphics, the difference is there namely with textures.  PS2 gets slammed because it has a whooping 4MB's for VRam.  WTF was sony thinking even the DC has 8MB's.

As for Vram the xbox has the advantage (64MB's though it's shared) and the GC has only 24MB though it's faster.  Still surprised that no developer has used the XBox HD as a VM cashe yet--should be able to.

Nintendo Gaming / Amazing Deals!
« on: June 17, 2003, 05:57:59 PM »
Yeah,

Best Buy gets rid of it's guides after only a few months (usually 3) except for a few (ones that are still selling :0 ).

I've seen guides like LoTR TTT, Spiderman, ect (mostly all action) go for a Penny apeice.

"the GameCube has two analog buttons that the PS2 doesn't have."

Wrong,  the GC's Analog stick & C-stick don't have any press down buttons unlike the xbox & PS2's analog sticks.

The Right Trigger and Left triggers on the GC are pressure-sensitive enabling them to do 2 functions but the PS2 already has Four triggers anyhow.

In terms of button layouts both the xbox and PS2 have 12 buttons+ two additional buttons for select and start while the GC only has 9 buttons + start.

Nintendo Gaming / PLAYERS CHOICE VS. PLATINUM HITS
« on: June 14, 2003, 07:59:46 AM »
Actually the box art is 99% the same.

The only difference is the top (there's a inch or so border with "Player's Choice".  The border is yellow.

In the UK at least (maybe all of europe) there's a special logon instead of the stripe (they replaced the Nintendo Gamcube logo on top of the gameboxes with a custom one that states Nintendo gamecube Player's Choice in goldish text.  It also replaces the orginal disc with one that has sparkes or something.

General Gaming / Xbox vs PC

Cough Alpex Cough.

Might want to look that up before you slash at MS. :0

Also, there isn't any lawsuit against MS in europe for price fixing.  What nintendo was inflating prices (meaning the retail price was alot lower than what retailers were selling).  MS stated the Xbox would RETAIL at 300 Pounds (which is $450ish or so).   Setting different prices in regions is LEGAL.

1544
Actually if GC fans where hardcore then why are the passing up games like ED & TS2?  Yeah, that doesn't make any sense at all.  Or why was Enter the Matrix the top seller ;0.

Reality is most gamers are casual, regardless of system.  Just because it seems like most people here actually know about games doesn't mean 99% of the rest of GC owners do.  Think about it, how many people actually post here vrs the userbase.

Why do Nintendo games sell, because that's what retailers tell you to buy.  Just walk into any shop and have them suggest games to you.

Nintendo Gaming / Bye Bye Gamecube
« on: June 13, 2003, 07:45:29 AM »
LOL,

Yeah, the immature level in here is pretty high, so  what he's getting a PS2--it's his choice and his opinion.

I use my PS2 alot because there's always something to play, especially RPG and fighters not to mention sports.

Right now my GC hasn't been touched since LoZ WW which lasted 2 weeks.  It was great but I won't be replaying it anytime soon (maybe another 4-5 years).

That's where online/mp kicks in--longevity.

As for "future" games, PS2 lineup isn't to bad, when your bragging out MGS TS, they are going be playing MGSIIISE.  :0.

1546
Actually if you consider what sells vrs games that don't you can almost see why Sega is dropping the GC.

If you look at the begining (nov-feb) they had their best months with SMB being a launch title and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle following in the spring.  But what have sold since then?  Sega Soccer Slam?  Nope.  What about SoA?  Nope.  What about PSO?  Nope.  What about SMB2?  Nope.

And that's excluding the sports titles which we all know by now didn't sell.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And Nintendo is getting two exclusives though, Billy Hatcher is one to look forward to.

Yeah, MS is evil that's why they were fined 160 million for "rigging markets and keeping prices artificially high. "

Oh wait a minute, wasn't that NINTENDO.

General Gaming / Xbox vs PC
« on: June 11, 2003, 04:39:52 PM »
Don't care much for NG either :0.

The Xbox is actually the reason why alot of games found their way to the PC, for example, SH2 that you stated you played on the PC.

That's just one example but it shows the benifit of both of them using Direct X.

So developers are looking at this as killing two birds with one stone.  Why not.   More games per system and more revenue for developers so everyone wins.

Compared to the others, ps2 would be the hardest to port, GC wouldn't be as bad for mac users (opengl, with  powerPC chip after all) but there's not exactually a big MAC community anymore.

Nintendo Gaming / GameCube controller, Really hurts...
« on: June 03, 2003, 05:29:25 AM »
Never had that problem with my index/middle finger (I can use either one for l & r).

The worst problem lies with the Mid-Evil Directional pad.  Games like SSX Tricky would leave your thumb bloody & beaten.  Think the directional pad is even smaller and narrower then even the NES pad.

Nintendo Gaming / Metroid: Prime lock up problem
« on: May 26, 2003, 07:54:50 AM »
"There was a point made by IBM that 1 in every 10,000 GameCubes that were shipped prior to Metroid Prime have a processor bug that cause the game to fail. This is due to the fact that Metroid Prime fills the GCN's data queue (Metroid Prime is supposedly the only game thus far to do that). I guess you just have bad luck(.1%). "

LOL,

Recalled reading that in forums but no where else :0.

The game has a crash bug (actually a few of them) and it's in the ruins.  Simple as that.   You usually run into it if you are "forcing" your way though (meaning your rushing though).  It has something to do with loading (since the GC loads while you play).

This isn't the first game to recieve a crash bug though, Rogue Squadron had one as well.
