What worse--

One of my local Blockbuster (the one that I have a membership for) just changed management.

They used to be pretty good about picking what games to stock and how much.  But lately it's been like this.

No Ghost Recon for the Xbox or GC (even though the Xbox supports Xbox Live).  Or the fact that it's listed under PS2's Online games even though it's not.  Not only that but they listed it as Co-op as well.  Idiots.  PS2 version has Zero online MP and is only limited to One-on-one DM for offline MP.

Second, SWRoTR is a smash hit yet they only bought two copies, same for Mario Golf.  But the bought freaking 12 titles of The Great Escape for the xbox a game that averages a 3/10.

I filed a complaint against the new management already (keep charging me for movies that was already checked back in (even rented back out 50% of the time).

There's actually a Microplay a few miles away and I think I'll get an account there.  They also have alot of anime compared to anyplace else.

General Gaming / RE:psp specs revealed
« on: August 05, 2003, 12:30:39 PM »
Why would a smaller screen matter on the contrast?

It wouldn't.  The reason Dark games don't work with the GBA is because it's not backlit, hell even the GBA SP is only front lit.

The PSP is going be backlit so you really don't have much to worry about.
The big issue is the compact mini-dvd disc player durability.  Moving parts on a portable might cause alot of issues.

But a few folks at EB were trying to explain that the disc's themselves are going be encoded in a plastic case (think of a modern day flobby drive). Which is kinda neat.  Always hate little nicks are scratches on my DVD's hopefully someone would create some type of cases for them as well  (Anyone recall those Mac's CD tray).

Nintendo Gaming / RE:$50 free from target
« on: July 28, 2003, 08:21:42 AM »
Yes, it includes the bundled (nintendo free prom) where you can chose between four games or opt for the GBP which was shown in the add.

And it's not mail-in neither meaning you can just ask the employee that you'll like this game isntead of the $50 or whatever.

I would pick up the GBP and lay the $50 down for zelda.

You're still going have to get a memory card though (get the 251 vrs the mc59 though--more bang for your dollar.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:FF:CC... Best GC RPG?
« on: July 27, 2003, 10:12:46 AM »
So far there's been two japanese reviews (the game doesn't come until Aug 17th or so).

Dengeki's reviews were 5, 6, 7 (avg 6) from it's three reviewers.  Flaws were plot and not enough skill developement (which is key to most RPGS).

Famitsu gave it 33/40 which is solid though Famitsu also gave Courtside 2002 the same score awhile back.

But yeah, it really doesn't sound like it's going be a smash hit.  It's going end up like "Unlimited Sega" which got so mixed scores it wasn't funny :0.

Same either loved it or some utterly hated it.

At least 8 or so.

I worked (past tense) in a general office building and alot of co-workers ask little ole me about what console to buy for husbands or their children.

I also tell them about deals that go around.  I know a few of them hopped on the GBA-GC deal back in Nov/Dec (not talking about the GBP but the orginal GBA) that a few retailers were doing.

In fact there's another great deal going on at target this week.  Buy a GC and get $50 gift card.  .

Well most people would only use it for a month or two, therefore they wouldn't have to waste $$$ for unused months.

I've played the DC version (played some of the GC version).

Yeah, it's one hell of a game but to bad it just didn't sell.

I really doubt a sequel is in the works, think overworks is going be to busy with it's current projects and I doubt sega's willing to take another loss.

General Gaming / Halo 2 to come out this year?
« on: July 17, 2003, 03:28:41 AM »
Well there's been a few cases where developers actually bumped up a deadline.

Could it happen.  Well yeah, but I wouldn't count on it.

But if you were MS wouldn't you try to get it out prior to the holiday season?  And it's not like MS doesn't have the manpower or capital neither.

There also is "Summoner 2"  for the gamecube that's been overlooked.

You might want to either rent this one or even buy it (I can find it in local shops for less than $20 used).

Sega CD was on it's draw board back in 1988, cd's was kinda new and everyone wanted on.

In 1991 it SegaCD was released and it bombed and why I think Nintendo jumped ship off the contract.

" Mac gamer leaves "

LOL, think I found your problem.  Time to ditch the good ole Mac and get a real-mans PC :0.  I ditched mine back in 1995 and haven't looked back.

Hell even Unix based OS's get more gaming support than the macs.

"The world''s most successful video games company. The world leader for graphics workstations. 64bit technology a generation on from its rivals. N64 inevitably became the world''s most anticipated video game system from the day it was announced; August 23rd, 1993.
To many, the announcement seemed more science fiction than science fact. Codenamed Project Reality, the new console would use 64bit, ''Reality Immersion Technology'' from $20,000 workstations and yet cost less than $250. Screenshots showed Mario and friends incongruously placed within high res, military sim cityscapes. This was not how it was supposed to be...

In 1988, Nintendo had signed an agreement with Sony for a SNES/CD-ROM Drive combo called PlayStation. It was officially announced at the 1991 June CES and Sony, not Nintendo, would control the licensing of software on the system''s Super Discs. Despite a dramatic re-negotiation of the contract sparked 24 hours later, the machine itself remained on track. At the ''92 Summer CES, Nintendo insisted the SNES CD-ROM Drive would ship in late ''93. Devkits were in use, games were deep in development."

If you look at FFVII developement time (6 years) that means the game started out in 1990, three years prior to nintendo ending the deal with sony.

Actually EB64 was supposed to be a N64DD game but it was later changed back to the 512mb cart.

It was show at spaceworld 99' running on a cart.

Reason for it's cancellation was because the developers were taking to long (6 years) or that's what nintendo stated anyhow.

Well,

I'm not sure if it even matters, arcades are dying here in the states and I doubt any in my area would even invest (arcade machines range from $2000+) in another driving game.

Fads changed over the years and more people are into DDR2 types of arcade games.

Nintendo Gaming / Why I'm happy owning only GameCube...
« on: July 16, 2003, 04:46:23 PM »
Well I had to make a choice between either owning all three consoles or upgrading my PC but I usually set a budget for myself each year on gaming.  The good thing about consoles is the lastability vrs a PC--no upgrades required.

The hardware is pretty much a set price (though if I knew a year later prices would have dropped this low and come with goodies I might have waited), but for software you can find some great deals (90% of the time I'm getting games for less than $30).

Or you can even rent games (Block buster has the "freedom" pass which allows you to rent one game per day for a month for $20.  Pretty damn cheap.  65 cents a day.    Add in $300-500 a year for hardware it's still less than $2.00 a day.

It's all about budgetting your money.  Instead of paying $5-20 per meal you can either make your own or have your GF make it for you :0.

"nintendo followed up with another BRILLIANT move and canned the Mother series"

I never said Enix created or developed the mother series :0.  I stated nintendo ****-canned there own turn-based RPG which left N64 gamers with ZIP.   Even if Square/Enix left, Nintendo should have created it's own RPGS for the N64.  It's not like it couldn't since it has plenty of funding.

And just because the hardware was available at a certain time doesn't mean the game wasn't in developement longer than that.  4-6 years for some of these games and right now and usually the specs on systems can change a few months prior to them launching.

For example, right now there's developers right now who are working on next generation of software without the hardware even being finalized.  What happens when the manufactures changes specs?  Do you just ****-can what you're done or simply convert it to another format?

"This still wouldn't fit on a single N64 cart as is, but if the game was properly programmed, it would have. Make no mistake there"

No it wouldn't.  Even if you converted the FMV to in-game cut scenes you'll still have the audio do deal with.

Hell the biggest cart that was released on the N64 was for RE2 and that was 512megaBITS (64MB's), which was an utter joke and hell no, FF VII wouldn't have fit even without the audio/FMV.  The 3D textures alone were 130MBs.

And it's actually nintendo's fault.  It stated it was going cd-based therefore developers (square) began developing for a CD system.  So why would square who invested 30 Million into a game not try to find another system to release the game on?

Nintendo's ex pres, Yamauchi is the one that made a big issue with it and basically pulled Squaresoft from developing on Nintendo systems.  Enix sooned followed square then nintendo followed up with another BRILLIANT move and canned the Mother series.

So in reality Nintendo's the one that killed itself in the RPG market.  Now since the new president  Iwata  is taking over, square and nintendo seemed to have worked out a new arrangement.  :0

Nintendo Gaming / Shenmue 3 confirmed, but not the platform.
« on: July 15, 2003, 07:49:16 PM »
"Although I humbley believe that Shenmue series would of sold dramatically better if it was on GameCube, Sega should learned by now damnit. they better not go for a 3rd on xbox, that's suicide! "

Yeah, I bet.  Rolls eyes.

It's a cult game, which means there isn't a big market for this type of game.  It's a bit to SLOW-paced to hold the majority of games attention.

It's right there along side of ICO, another game that's overlooked by the majority.

"connectivity is that it's now LIMITING gameplay"

Actually isn't it enhancing?  No more split-screen needed instead each player has a mini-screen to access their inventory without interfering with the others.

The only issue with it is the control pad (directional pad--GBA) vrs the the Dialog stick (GC).

I'm looking forward to it still.

FFXII & FFXIII is going be PS2 exclusive, this was announced after FFCC.  Hopefully FFXII will redeem square after that FFX2 crap.

As for FFCC, there's not going be any friendly AI, so no squadmates.  Was kinda dissappointed with that news myself, was hoping for KH type of combat.

FFCC comes out in August for Japan, think it was delayed until the 21st?  So I expect more info soon.

Privating is increasing while profits isn't.  It's that simple.  Sure the market is increasing but so isn't developement costs.

Want better games for the future, buy them now and support the developers/publishers.  They have families too.

Actually the bigger developers are the ones that are losing the most.

Which games do you think get privated faster, Zelda or some game like Rayman 3 for example?  You see plenty of SM64 Roms but you really don't see any Superman 64 roms :0.

Also if you ever recalled Tribes?  There was more people playing (nearly 2x) then actual copies sold.

Yeah, privating has always been around since freaking 5 1/4 floppies but it's growing (mostly because of the widespread of info thanks to the net).
