"Banjo-Kazooie - million seller
Perfect Dark - not even close"

Actually PD was a million seller, so wasn't conkers for that matter--that's why it was a player's choice game on the N64 (which only applied to million sellers unlike the GC player choice games, IE spiderman.

Actually I'm not.  Only Sonic Adventure 2 Battle sold well.  Neither the Remake of Sonic Adventure or the Sonic Collection sold well (50Kish last I seen).

"Sega gave Xbox some of it's biggest guns "

Actually, besides CT, the other series never sold that well.  Shenmue (US) sales were pretty grim, Panzer Dragoon, Jet Set Radio, ect all sold pretty crappy on their native systems (Saturn/DC).

And you shouldn't talk about numbers since SoA (Eternal Aradia Japan), SMB2, or even Billy Hatcher--didn't sell worth beans (hell BH sold less than 10K it's opening week in japan--that's pretty poor for a sega title.

Besides the sports, VF4 and EV now are the only ones that seem to sell well.

Well, there's two things.

For one, even when PD0 was still listed under GC, it still had 2005 as a date.  Which would have been the launching of GC2.

Second, that's prior to the new look, the anime style.  Why did MS or Rare decide to go with that look?  Maybe because of the developement time--though it's not cel-shading like everyone is thinking (unless it's a new method since it has multiple colors + fading).

But yeah, with slew of FPS on the xbox, you really don't need too many more--platformers will brand name is what's needed because games like Voodoo Vince isn't going to sell.

Thief 1 or 2.

Wonder whatever happened with Thief III?  Wasn't Eidos publishing it?

« on: October 11, 2003, 08:13:54 AM »
Final Fantasy III (Japan)--why, because the motherfookers never ported it over to US or Euro.

The only way to play the game is to find A.) Import copy or B.) find a few translated roms off the internet.

Besides that one, I've played them all, even replayed them the PS1 though was kinda disappointed that you really didn't get much in terms of a remake--basically it's just a straight port with a begining FMV and ending FMV.

Still hoping Square/Enix decides to port over FFIII on the PS along with another game (just like all of the other collector's edition).  Not really picking but I love seeing a port of Secret of mana (SNES) since Legend of Mana is already on the PS.

Actuall MC, Nintendo's in the red for the first part of the fiscal year which excludes the recent price reduction on GC.

And it's doubtful that's going change anytime soon.  $100+ million is going be spent on fall-winter ads which is quite a bit, plus you're losing a few dollars for every GC sold, ect it's going hard press for nintendo to make any type of profit in the fall unless it's software sells extremely well.

LOL,

First off if FF VII -FFIX suck so bad then why don't the reviewers agree?  FFVII is still the highest rated FF game or even FFX which recieved solid 9.0's.

Personally I love the addition to FMV to the series and what it added--a sense of feel.

As for sex & volience you're point is pretty much invalid.  Not sure what FF games you played but characters dying (in FFV alone 4-5 characters die) or that whole sex appeal isn't new either.  Sure a 8bit character looks rather dull but if you read the bios it's always some hot little lass and not some overweight ape looking women.  You never find 100% girl from the next door from any of these games.  The only difference between then and now is how the appear graphically.  Big deal.

As for sales, it's pretty weak agruement to say the sales reflect from the quality because if that's the case then freaking SMS, FZero GX, Zelda Wind Waker, ect all sucked ass since they didn't sell as well as the orginals.

LOL all those DOS games came out when?  Yeah that's my point.

SK has only released one games since 1996 (that's when BO appeared)--alot worse then freaking Rare's record anyhow.

Actually Metroid was in the works for awhile, when retro presented nintendo will the idea then already had 2 years of fiddling with it.

And you consider Blood Omen good?  LOL.  Take it you didn't play the orginal?   It's nothing steller C at best.

"output digital "  No, it doesn't support digital but yeah you have to use the adapter mini-plug they gave you.

It's really not to much of a hassle unless you'll going hook up multi components then you might want to get a audio hub (fairly cheap--$20 or less).

You shouldn't have to adjust anything, games that support DPLII will automatically be in use (you can check from the LCD display--think it will read PLII or something.

I'll get my brother to log in since he knows more about them then me.

General Gaming / RE:Rare: A Year Later
« on: September 21, 2003, 05:46:59 AM »
Yeah, it's quite funny how people are holding Rare as a double standard.

Sure they're slow to develope games but isn't Nintendo just the same.  Or even SK who released a whooping 1 title for the last 7+ years.  Or Retro Studios who has a single title even though it was founded in 1996.

Rare isn't that bad.  On average, Rare released two titles per year.  This year they are releasing one GBA and one Xbox game.  Next year they have 3 more GBA games and a couple of Xbox ones.

As for selling of Rare, Nintenod really didn't have much choice since the brothers owned the majority of the shares and they were the ones that sold Rare.  No sense holding 49% of the voting shares when MS owns the other 51% is it?  Nope.

Was Rare really worth it's weight in gold.  Depends--short term value most likely no but in the long run then yes.

Should have Big N bought Rare?  Yes, no.  I say no but they should have tried to get a third party publisher than allow MS to buy it.  Why No, they really don't need more platformers + they could use the extra cash to invest in 3rd party developers in areas they lack.

« on: September 18, 2003, 02:46:49 AM »
Yeah, Nintendo's not the first.

The DC should get the alot of the credit with it's VMU, hell even the ole Playstation a similar product (though I think it was only released in Japan).

A few things the VMU did.

A.) allowed you do DL mini-games

B.) allowed you to unlock special items in the game (SoA for example--pikmia quest).

C.) steam in stats from the game, quite a few sports games as well as others).

What has the GBA done that seperates it apart?  :0

Actually that's just something they created and not an official pick.

Don't think we'll see anything official until next year.  Nintendo likes keeping it's cards close.

Gee I bet MC doesn't even get the Mag.

It's not all praises for the Xbox/PS2.  The only time where the praise it over the GC is during two articles about online gaming & lan.  Not really a big surprise considering there's Zero Lan games out and only a single online game for the GC.

They simply point out the flaws and they don't seem to baised since they had a few cheap-shots at xbox's laughable japanese support.

There's not to many flaws so far with Sony's PS2 other than a bit dated and it's breakdowns so it will seem like they don't bash it as bad.  But if there's a issue with it, then you'll hear about it (Read Ghost Recon review).

?  Not sure what's Gup talking about?  Alot of developers have pulled it's multiplantform games from the GC, either that or delayed until the other two versions are finished--Mafia comes screaming to mind.

But yeah, it's basically just another mag but it's EB's so you get 10% off pre-owned video games (which saves me tons of money since I rarely buy new anymore).

I've saved $189.23 this year alone (that's with EB's other sales--they had an additional 20% off if you buy three of them for about a month).

What do I do with the money I save?  Buy more of course.

General Gaming / RE:uh oh, I like VF4e better than SC2
« on: August 28, 2003, 04:00:40 AM »
Loved VF4 myself, especially the AI (the adept to your moves ).

The only downer was the design.  The took away the "rolling environment" from VF3--namely all the stages are flat.  Guess it was just to hard for them to do correctly (if anyone played VF3 they'll understand).

Actually loading times are actually faster on the xbox but it's like a whooping 4 seconds, woot.

As for resolution performance, xbox does both 480P and 720P (both 16:9 & 4:3).  The only time the framerates drop a bit is in the higher resolution which the GC doesn't support.

For controllers, GC was rated the lowest.  A.) Directional pad--it's too small so either you're force to use the analog stick or just deal with the pad.

Though most reviwers played on the xbox "s" controller which works a bit better than the standard one (mostly because the buttons are in the standard square design instead of that diamond shape one).  PS2 controller is the best of the three.   But reality is you can use a PS2 controller on a GC (they have converted cables for it) or even the xbox's.

I've chosen the xbox version, why?  702P and 5.1 DD .  Can care less about any of the exclusive characters since they really don't seem to fit in the style of SC.  Ranged weapons?  ).

"PSO, SoA, LoZ:WW, AC, FF:CC, ToP, BK and
GS:LA, AW etc through the GBplayer"

Have to disagree,

PSO isn't to bad but it's only has Multiplayer action.  The single player mode is a bit stale (yeah I kinda realize it's meant to be online but still, some tweaks in the single player could have helped).

LoZ:  WW isn't an RPG.  It's more of an action/adventure with a trance of RPG elements but not close to enough.

AC:   LOL, nintendo places this back as a RPG but since it's basically same as EA's Sims, wouldn't be a "Life" or alter life simulator?

ToP?  Think you mean ToS .  Yeah this one is actually shaping up real good (received 9.7, 9.5, 9.0, and one 8 from the four top japanese reviewers).  Kinda sad you'll still going have to wait (unless you can read japanese),  until March+ 2004 for the US and most likely later for Europe.

FFCC recieved mixed reviews, it's basically the same as PSO but think Squaresoft's Game Design Studio should have added a better plot and included some sort of online or at least Friendly AI help.

BK, I take it you're talking about Nacmo's newest RPG, there's not alot to go on for this.  It could be a flop or it could be a hit.   Won't know for awhile.

That leaves the GBP games.

GS & it's expansion GS LA are good enough but AW?  Advance Wars is a strategy game, basically Starcraft clone type.

I really can't call that a positive otherwise you'll have to count the PS2 backwards comp as positive as well.   It's not really because A.) most fans have a PS1 just don't bother hooking it up since PS2 can do both, B.) even if you didn't have one you could get them fairly cheap.

Same with the GBA/GBP games.  I know alot of PS2 gamers who actually have GBA's so why would they need a GC to play them .

So right now, there's quite a few quality RPGs that I can play on the PS2 vrs the GC as of now.

What would a hardcore RPG do?  Wait two years+, or just buy an PS2?

A few dollars at best for all but THPS4.  THPS4 might get $10-15 at most.

You really get screwed trying to trade games in, especially considering these are old titles (minus THPS4).

You're better off trading games (try tradegamesnow) or selling them on ebay.

Just my advice.

"Well, that is true, the RPGs aren't exactly thriving on xbox."

Actually both Morrowind & SWKOTR are selling pretty damn well.  If you mean more traditional RPG's then not really but neither is the GC for that matter.   SoA didn't sell beans.

1499
And here comes the lock :0.

What's funny is oldfart states the Xbox is nothing more than a PC but what about the GC?  It has a powerPC (from IBM the creators of the PC term no less) which are found in Macs, or the fact that it uses opengl which PC's have been using for years (both N64 and NGC uses them).

Saddly oldfart is here just stinking up the place.

And if you're talking big numbers, big deal since the Xbox is selling at the same rate as the GC.  If one's a failure then the other one is as well.

Also Nintendo's & Sony Customer's Services are all toll-free or you can even file online.

General Gaming / RE:Final Fantasy's Final Fantasy
« on: August 11, 2003, 04:21:25 AM »
Well I don't think FF is any different the LoZ.  Both series have similar plots but there's always enough differences to make each one unique.

FFX2 is no less a expansion than let's say Zelda MM.

FFXI is pretty much no different than PSO--there are both spinoffs of the main series were were turn-based RPG's.  PSO is an ORPG, while FFXI is a MMORPG.

Persoanlly I perfer the classic turnbased RPG versions myself (you can get PS Collection on the GBA PS 1-3).

FFXII and FFXIII though is bringing the series back to it's roots though very little is known about either game since there annoucement back in 2002.
