TalkBack / Nintendo of Europe Closing Headquarters, Relocating

The Germany office will now be consolidated with the office in Frankfurt.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37628/nintendo-of-europe-closing-headquarters-relocating

Nintendo of Europe is closing its headquarters in Großostheim, Germany, and will instead be run out of the Frankfurt office.

The cost-cutting move has left 130 without jobs, according to Eurogamer. In a statement provided to the site, Nintendo of Europe said that the move was to allow more flexibility within the video game business.

"The measures include the consolidation of the current European headquarters in Großostheim to Frankfurt, the closure of the warehouse and office in Großostheim, as well as outsourcing and reorganizing some functions," they further reiterated.

No word if other offices will be affected by these cutbacks.

« on: June 07, 2014, 04:33:26 PM »

All Hoenn starters will now have Mega Evolutions.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37626/new-mega-pokemon-evolutions-revealed

New Mega Evolutions for specific Pokémon have been revealed in the latest issue of CoroCoro magazine.

Swampert, Sceptile and legendary Pokémon Diancie all have new Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Mega Swampert retains his type, but now has the Swift Swim ability. Mega Sceptile is now Grass/Dragon and it's ability is Lightning Rod. Diancie's ability and type is currently unknown.

On top of this, the rumored Mega Evolutions for main legendaries of the Ruby/Sapphire games Kyogre and Groudon have been confirmed in a sense. These new forms they will obtain are called "Ancient Devolutions." The forms are called Primal/Prehistoric/Primeval Groudon and Kyogre, respectively.

Other items have been detailed in CoroCoro magazine as well. Steven Stone returns, as he is looking for the secret of Mega Evolution and has a Mega Charizard with him. The Acro and Mach bikes are back as well. Both Team Aqua and Magma return with their respective admins and leaders touting new redesigns.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are due for release in November on the 3DS.

Tomodachi Life, Zelda: Minish Cap, I've Got to Run and more this week!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37613/nintendo-downloads-june-5-2014

Busy week in the Nintendo Download. Lots of new titles for the Wii U as well as the 3DS, which has the biggest release this week with Tomodachi Life. With E3 coming next week, might we see some new surprises in next week’s Nintendo Download? No one knows for sure, but the week will be exciting regardless. Let’s run down the releases today!

Nintendo Wii U Downloads

How to Train Your Dragon 2- $39.99

Based on the CGI movie of the same name, looks like you’ll be training dragons. Maybe. I don’t really know, CGI animated movies aren’t my thing, really. I did like Wreck it Ralph, though. Maybe this is like Wreck it Ralph, but with dragons.

I’ve Got to Run- $1.99

I’ve always wondered what marshmallow boy is running from. Is he running away from responsibilities? Life? A giant dragon? Many questions remain unanswered. But what I do know is that I’ve Got to Run is out today, and for a cheap price.

1001 Spikes- $14.99

1001 Spikes is a retro inspired 2D platformer that, from the looks of it, tends to be a difficult game. I would probably rip my hair apart trying to play this game, and maybe cause damage to my 3DS in the process, so maybe I should avoid it. People with nice temperaments only, please.

Chubbins - $5.99

Chubbins is all about a bouncing rabbit. Good thing, because this game is aptly named–the bunny is a bit plump. Look, I know it’s not nice to call others fat, but hey he’s bouncing around various levels, perhaps losing weight in the process. So good for him, he’s doing something about it.

Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap - $7.99 (May 30)

Only one Virtual Console title is out this week, but hey it’s a big one! Minish Cap is one of the Zelda games I haven’t played, but a lot of people like this title. It involves Link wearing a silly hat that tells him things. I don’t think that would fly in real life.

Nintendo 3DS Downloads

Tomodachi Life - $39.99 (June 6)

Praise be to the Virtual Boy, Tomodachi Life has finally made it to North American shores, but not without some controversy. But regardless, if you want to preform stage shows, make a bunch of friends and have bizarre dreams, this seems to be up your alley.

1001 Spikes - $14.99

More platform craziness ensues on the 3DS with this version of 1001 Spikes. I wonder why it had to be 1001 Spikes. 1000 seems like a good number to me. Now I'm going to be up all night trying to figure out why they needed 1001...

How to Train Your Dragon 2- $29.99

Training dragons sound hard. I have a tough enough time raising a dog, but dragons? Maybe it depends on the type of dragon, like an ice dragon wouldn’t be so bad during the summer, right? I’d probably need to get it defanged either way.

Color Zen- $3.99 (May 30)

Finally, you shall achieve zen. Not by the Wii U, although you can nab that version as well, but also on the 3DS. By matching colors, you’ll reach nirvana. Or maybe just have a fun time, either one works.

Sales

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars is down to $29.99 on the 3DS eShop through 9 am PT on June 9.

The Just Dance series is having a sale as well on the Wii U eShop. Get 50% off all titles through 9 am PT on June 9.

Bit Boy!! ARCADE is 40% off starting today through June 26 at 9 am PT.

Treva Entertainment is discounting their titles, including Riding Stables 3D and Riding Stables 3D: Jumping for the team through June 25 at 9 am PT.

Originally released in August of last year for 3DS and later for PC and Playstation systems, SteamWorld Dig will be making its debut on Nintendo home consoles sometime this fall, a post from developer Image & Form Games says.

SteamWorld Dig's gameplay revolves around mining and looking for resources, though the main character, Rusty, is also put in platformer-like scenarios and wields a pickaxe that can be upgraded as the game progresses. Mario Kart, Mega Man, Klonoa, and, most importantly, Luv Me Buddies out this week!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37557/nintendo-downloads-may-29-2014

Not a whole lot this week in the Nintendo Download, but there’s one title everyone’s been waiting for. Yes, Luv Me Buddies Wonderland is finally out on the Wii U. Calm yourselves down, I know it’s been a long wait but the time has finally come. Oh, and some game called Mario Kart 8 will be arriving in a few days. But come on, we know the big players here in the Wii U field.

Wii U Downloads

Mario Kart 8 - $59.99 (May 30)

Yes, the wait is nearly over! Mario Kart 8 will race onto Wii U systems on May 30. It definitely looks nice, with HD graphics and a live band soundtrack. I can't wait to get in there and race...in Grand Prix mode. I'm too much of a wuss to try and kick people's butts online. I disappoint myself every time.

Gravity Badgers - $4.99

You know, I always told myself that there needed to be more animals in space. I just never knew which animals to put in there. Gerbils? Nah. Hamsters? Too easy. Badgers? Yes. There can be no better mammal in space than that of the almighty badger.

Ittle Dew - $9.99

I am in the process of playing this game, so a review will be up within the next week for my final verdict. What I can tell you about this game right now is, if you like 2D Zelda games, this game is right up your alley. Plus, it’s funny. Funny games are fun(ny).

Luv Me Buddies Wonderland - $19.99

The killer app we’ve all be waiting for is here! Lots of cute little heart shaped critters will guide you through some mini games. Like the epic, immortal tagline says, we all need somebuddy to luv.

Wii U Virtual Console

Klonoa: Empire of Dreams - $6.99

Klonoa, the some sort of animal thing with very large ears is back! Well, in virtual console form anyway. But from my understanding this particular series is a fun, platform-filled adventure. What more can you ask for?

Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console

Mega Man Xtreme 2 - $4.99

It’s Mega Man...to the XTREME. I had to put that in there. This particular series is known for being very tough, especially by Game Boy standards. Considering that even normal Mega Man games are known for their old school toughness, I imagine this game is about as difficult as throwing a celebrity in jail.

Sales

Nintendo 3DS titles Pushmo and Crashmo are both 33% off through June 13.

TalkBack / Capcom Employee Comments on Lack of Mega Man Titles
« on: May 27, 2014, 04:01:07 PM »

Four years isn't an extraordinary gap, they say.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37534/capcom-employee-comments-on-lack-of-mega-man-titles

A Capcom employee has recently defended the current lack of Mega Man games in a post on Capcom's official message boards.

An employee by the name of GregaMan commented that, "Four years is certainly a large gap for Mega Man, which has some 129 titles to its name spanning just 25 years, but not an extraordinarily large gap for your average IP."

He continued, saying "Even without a recent title, Mega Man has a constant presence, be it in our news reel, the Japanese investor relations site, the frequently updated Rockman Unity blog in Japan, or with frequent rereleases in the digital space."

The last Mega Man title, Mega Man 10, was released in March of 2010. Keiji Inafune, creator of the series, left in October of that year and all Mega Man games following his departure were cancelled.

TalkBack / Pushmo World Announced for Wii U

Pushing your way onto the Wii U on June 19 all over the world!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37535/pushmo-world-announced-for-wii-u

Update: Pushmo World is also coming out in North America and Europe on June 19.

Pushmo World is coming to the Wii U eShop next month in Japan.

The game will be released on June 19 for 1,000 yen and will be 1 gigabyte in size. It appears to be similar in scope to the original with 250 new puzzles and will allow players to create their own puzzles on the GamePad. Created puzzles can be shared via Miiverse and can also be shared across Wii U and 3DS versions of the game using QR codes. However, not all of the Wii U puzzles will be able to be shared on 3DS. Additionally, Miiverse stamps can be unlocked during gameplay.

Developed by Intelligent Systems, Pushmo World has you sorting and shifting puzzle blocks around. The goal of the game is to save children locked in these puzzles by shifting the blocks in the right order. It first debuted on the 3DS eShop in late 2011. A sequel, Crashmo, came out on 3DS the following year.

Check out the trailer below!

Some street fighting and squids, though not together. Also, Mega May continues!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37502/nintendo-download-may-22-2014

A big week this time in the Nintendo Download. Wii U and 3DS are represented well in both downloadable and Virtual Console titles, with some big ones arriving today. Even the DS gets some love this week. Man, I hope the streak of DS releases just keeps coming, as it's kind of amazing.

Wii U Downloads

Fit Music - $14.99

I'm guessing it's a music game that will keep you fit. It's nice to jam out to music sometimes. I'm not that kind of guy, though many out there are. I'm just fine sitting around and doing nothing, thanks.

Squids Odyssey - $14.99

How convenient! I just reviewed this game, so check it out and see what I thought about it here. But if you want the short version...it's a pretty fun game! Check it out.

Swords & Soldiers - $2.99

This game features vikings. They're the real discoverers of America, not that Columbus guy. You should read more about him, by the way. He wasn't very nice.

Wii U Virtual Console

Street Fighter Alpha 2 - $7.99

One of the biggest Super Nintendo titles is now on the Virtual Console! I'm not the biggest fan of the Alpha series, but it's something different from the mainline Street Fighter games so it's worth checking out. The box art is pretty cool, too.

Nintendo 3DS Downloads

Alien on the Run - $3.99

I don't blame these aliens for being on the run. I mean, you know what people want to do to aliens, right? Do experiments on them. That's not very nice at all. Of course they're going to run!

Turtle Tale - $2.99

Turtle Tale looks like a fun, simple platformer. Those might be common on the 3DS, but are platformers ever a bad experience? Well, maybe Home Improvement was, but this doesn't look like Home Improvement. This actually looks fun!

Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console

Mega Man V - $3.99

Mega May continues with the fifth entry in the Mega Man Game Boy series. It's kind of amazing how many Mega Man games came out in an eight year span. No wonder things slowed down once the SNES era went into full effect!

Nintendo DS Downloads

Lost Treasures of Alexandria - 800 Nintendo Points

Yes, more Nintendo DS games! This looks like a simple puzzle game, but hey--it's a game nonetheless! I'm sure Nintendo DS enthusiasts are glad new games are coming out on almost a weekly basis!

Sales

Darts Up (3DS) is now 67% off through June 11 at 9 a.m. PT.

Classic Games Overload is $10 off through June 2 at 9 a.m. PT.

Joindots Games have a sale on their titles in the 3DS eShop through June 5 at 9 a.m. PT.

Blok Drop U is 25% off through June 4 at 9 a.m. PT.

TalkBack / Squids Odyssey Review
« on: May 22, 2014, 04:01:04 PM »

The Wii U gets its first great strategy game featuring squids!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/37501/squids-odyssey-review

When thinking about strategy RPGs, my first thought isn’t a deep sea underwater adventure starring squids. But then again, I’m not a video game developer. The Game Bakers, however, have realized such a game with their release of Squids Odyssey for the Wii U, with a 3DS version soon to follow. It’s quite the deep RPG with a multitude of levels to play through and a number of items and characters to unlock and choose from. The  learning curve is a bit high, but overall it’s a fun adventure that is worth picking up for strategy RPG enthusiasts.

The game has a similar layout to mobile games such as Angry Birds or Cut the Rope. There are a number of stories shown once the game starts up, but only one is able to be chosen from the start. Once completing all the levels in one chapter, the next one opens. The overall narrative, with squids fighting an evil presence in their once happy undersea life, is a fine and intriguing story to follow. The option to play on the gamepad with Off-TV Play capabilities is a welcome addition.

Gameplay works like many strategy role playing games. You have a set of squids that must battle their way towards victory, either by surviving, clearing all enemies, or finding the goal. Using the joystick, squids are sent smashing into enemies that either whittle away due to damage or fall off ledges to their doom. The squids have a variety of abilities; some shoot with guns, others heal other squids by colliding into them, and some have stomping abilities that push away nearby enemies. These different types of squids found in different levels do indeed provide great strategy tactics in order to clear out a level efficiently.

What is most interesting about the game is just how deep the customization is. There are a number of items and upgrades for each character to unlock in each level, and these can be bought and equipped at the squid’s base for pearls that you collect in each level. Pearls are also used to level up characters. Unlike some RPGs, this isn’t done automatically and instead it requires manually leveling up characters you use in the game individually. It does require some strategy and thought into what character to level up and what item to buy to progress in the game.

Squids Odyssey is tough after the first few levels, especially if characters aren’t leveled up properly. But that’s fine; it never reaches to a frustrating level. Overall, it’s a charming game that, at its core, is actually very deep in customization and gameplay. I wish leveling up was more automated, but these are minor qualms compared to the overall experience. In terms of Nintendo eShop titles, you won’t find many others that offer the long hours of gameplay that Squids Odyssey provides.

TalkBack / Speculating E3 2014
« on: May 20, 2014, 05:39:57 PM »

Just what will Nintendo show at the big event? Here's some good 'ol speculation.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/editorial/37297/speculating-e3-2014

Nintendo’s E3 presentation will be bright and early on June 10th. Like last year, Nintendo has opted to do a presentation via the Internet as opposed to a press conference in Los Angeles. This has disappointed some people, including myself, but this isn’t what this article is about. I’m ready to do some speculation. With less than a month to go, lets get down to the nitty-gritty.

A Wii U redesign? That’s possible, but I’m not sure if it’s needed. I was thinking that they could release a version without the GamePad, but with the recent announcement of Nintendo developing games that will use toys with NFC, I guess that idea is out of the picture. However, I can still see them creating a new version of the Wii U and maybe changing the name. I think most casual gamers either still don’t know about the Wii U, or know about it but are confused by how it’s different than a standard Wii. So giving the Wii U a new name might be beneficial in the long run. It’s a long shot, but if they go with a redesign there is a possibility we might see something like this.

Price cut? They just did one with this current model last fall, so no. If Nintendo does a new design, then I can see a newer version of the Wii U go for cheaper. I don’t think Nintendo liked the idea of cutting the Wii U’s price so early in its lifespan, so cutting it again just a few months later seems inconceivable. Stranger things have happened though!

And now...the games.

Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, Hyrule Warriors, and Yarn Yoshi were all shown off, or discussed, last year. Little has been seen from them since aside from Hyrule Warriors, which has been confirmed for a release this summer in Japan. I definitely expect to see footage of Hyrule Warriors at E3. It seems like a given considering it’s so close release. I also expect at least something from the other two titles. Given that a new Yoshi title just came out a couple of months ago, I could see Yarn Yoshi not making it out until next year.

On the 3DS front, there’s not much to speculate on as there’s really nothing announced for the fall yet. However, that’s what E3 is for so I’m sure we’ll see tons of 3DS news at the event. There is one game that was just announced over the past week that’s making its way to systems this November and that’s the recently announced Pokemon: Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire titles. I’m expecting footage, for sure, and maybe a specific release date. I am, however, leaning towards no on that one. If they don’t have a release date in May, I wouldn’t expect one in June. September, however, seems to be a given.

Continuing on the release date route, Smash Brothers for 3DS is scheduled to come out this summer. Considering June is a summer month, we should expect a release date at E3. If I had to make a guess, I’d probably say August. I don’t expect the Wii U version to get a release date, however. If they’re shooting for winter, I would assume they will announce a date in the fall.

The next game in the Legend of Zelda franchise will most likely be shown at E3 as well. I don’t think Nintendo has confirmed it for sure, but its known that another title is in development. As for what kind of footage we’ll see, who knows! Whether it winds up being Toon Link, regular Link, or maybe even a new Link, I’ll be tuning in to see what’s next for the Hyrulian warrior (aside from a hack and slash romp).

It’s also been announced recently that there’s a new Mario game in development. I enjoyed Super Mario 3D World immensely, but it borrowed heavily from the 3DS title Super Mario 3D Land. Maybe this will be Mario’s latest big platforming adventure? The last time a genuinely brand new Mario platformer, in the vein of Mario 64, on consoles was in 2007. Perhaps we’ll see what new adventure Mario embarks next in just a few weeks time.

Retro Studios is also working on another game. Knee jerk reaction is Metroid, as that series hasn’t been touched upon in years, but it could be anything. Retro has really evolved over the years going from, “that company that makes the Metroid Prime series”, to a full-blown Nintendo developer creating stupendous titles such as the Donkey Kong Returns series, as well as helping with Mario Kart 7. There are a myriad of games Retro Studios could be working on. However in the end there might just be one game, and who knows what that game will be until it’s revealed.

Finally, let’s just full out throw some of my own probabilities. Starfox? Possible, but ’m leaning towards no. F-Zero? Seems pretty unlikely, especially with Mario Kart 8 coming out soon. Wario? I can see a new 3DS game, maybe. Golden Sun? A new 3DS adventure could be in the pipeline, so let’s go with that. Kid Icarus? With Project Sora being shuttered I think Pit is going to be dormant for a while. Mother? Doesn't seem to be possible at this point. Urban Champion? Absolutely. In the end, one can speculate all day and even throw out a bunch of random guesses, but the truth of the matter is we won’t know what Nintendo will show until it’s time to go live. Nintendo is going to be in the spotlight on June 10, and they should deliver a presentation that will lift spirits up in regards to the Wii U and continue to show support the 3DS as it trucks on. What do you think Nintendo will show at E3. Do you think some of my predictions are just plain ludicrous? Let me know in the talkback below!

I've Got to Run will be released on the Nintendo Wii U eShop on June 5.

4 Corner Games released the news on their Twitter today, just a few days after confirming that it had been approved by Nintendo of America for release.

The game centers around a marshmallow boy who, indeed, has to run. The game is a endless runner that moves at a smooth 60 frames per second. It has players running in a variety of modes, including some with single and double jumps, as well as slow down and speed up items.

When released, the game will retail for $1.99. Check out the trailer below.
