Why not just wait two days for the announcement instead of getting your hopes up for another disappointment....oh wait, that would be  the logical thing to do.

General Chat / RE:What type of gamer are you?
« on: August 02, 2003, 03:05:35 PM »
Age: 15

First console: Nintendo

Game that really got me into gaming: Tetris

Consoles owned: Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube

Favorite console and why: Nintendo by far, despite being extremely young, I loved this system with my heart and almost any games that came with it. If it weren't for this console, I wouldn't have my glasses, I'd probably reading a book right now, and I wouldn't be here.

Favorite games: Tetris (Original), Contra (All), Double Dragon (All), Mario (All), Metroid (All), Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Bomberman (Original), Dig Dug, Road Runner, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Most that I've played), Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64, Donkey Kong 64, Resident Evil (All, Except Survivor), Eternal Darkness, Super Smash Brothers (All), Warcraft (All), Starcraft, Counterstrike, Unreal Tournament, and that's just the beginning, but I'll stop here.

Most anticipated games: Resident Evil 4, Mario (whatever title it is), Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, and Killer 7

Favorite genre: Strategy

Wish for the future of gaming: Return of 2D games.

Don't they function like mouses or keyboards? They are supplied power from the main machine (PC or console) to the device. So all the device needs to do is its job without worry of power.

You can't have directional control in the RE games. Think about it, if you are holding left and running left, but the camera changes angles (now your char would have to run up), and you are still holding left, you would crash into a wall. (This would be annoying because you could get caught by zombies). In the classic controls, you could be holding forward to run, and as camera changes angles you keep on holding down forward, you don't crash into any wall, etc. Do you understand what I mean?

Please tell me they'll keep the $50 price...

but it is great to hear this news. I hope PGC or IGN will have an article explaining exactly why we have 3 discs. (If they even know why)

Nintendo 'Ncubus

If anyone of you know the meaning of it (Incubus), you'll find it real ammusing.

But chode, look at GTA: Vice City. Another sequeal (or pequel) and it was the hottest game. Look at Final Fantasy, it seems Square is never gonna stop making them. Each Final Fantasy is blown off the charts. Devil May Cry, etc. etc. Sony's bigest hits have been sequals. X-Box can't really have sequals...because it's its first generation.

Nintendo on the other hand, has made ade sequels to its franchises, but they have failed to be as popular as Vice City, etc. It seems as Nintendo is doing something else wrong. I don't think sequals matter as much anymore. Of course, we do want new innovative stuff.

I can see how switching 2D and 3D would be considered revolutionary. But I do hope this is reported on either PGC or IGN.

Secondly, if it is a hoax, compliments to the person who thought of it.

The wallpaper that was shown above was real simple. Specially with bryce, which makes it even easier. You choose a sky texture. Add water and some larges ripples. Zoom in close for the wave affect. Add another texture to the water, and tada. You got it. Bryce does the rendering and effects of the sun on the water, etc. It's pretty nice.

Back to topic: Any suggestions about my game?

Nintendo Gaming / What features should gamecube2 have?
« on: July 22, 2003, 09:39:16 PM »
Bah....I don't want a remote period...we got enough any ways. And thats a good idea about the plastic bags instead of boxes. More environmentally satisfying.

Seriously, you guys must be real lazy to not be able to push a button on a console. I was an awe for about 10 minutes as I saw a line of 10 guys agree to a remote just to turn a console on and off...haha. I just can't get over the fact of how lazy you guys are...It's almost sad. And if it makes the Gamecube cost $5 less, then I'm all for removing the damn remote. You can call me cheap, but it'll be better in the long run to convince my parents to get it.

For 3D designing you need programs such as:

Bryce, World Builder, Poser, Maya, Soft Image, 3Ds Max, Light Wave 3D, etc.

But be aware these programs cost in the thousands, some in the ten thousands.

« on: July 22, 2003, 09:31:00 AM »
Why do you guys want a fricken remote just to turn the system on and off? Are you too lazy to just press a button on your console? That's just sad.

Secondly, I hope there is no DVD player or GBA player installed. Why? Because it will be cheaper. The is one of the main reasons Gamecube ran so well. I don't want all the consoles to pack every little feature into it and max it to 300-400 dollars. I want my 200 dollar system. All I want is a built in LAN, (only if wireless controllers are WITH rechargeable batteries), hard drive (or SD card), and backwards compatibility.

I'd also like to point out that if there is backwards compatibility, won't Nintnedo have to use the same controller?

(Continuation of my last post)

So as your female character wakes up, she is feeling nausea from the exposed gas and radiation form the plant. She begins to hear all kinds of things, and those sounds multiply by being. The truth is that what she hears and sees are not actually there. They cannot actually harm her, but because of her nausea, she does feels she is being attacked by some ghost, zombie, etc. This is sort of effect happens throughout the game, sort of like an insanity meter, but a player cannot control it. It is natural, and the only way to escape it is to leave the area...

The control scheme, I would imagine, would be like Eternal Darkness, where the camera follows the char from behind. The weapons I'd leave for the character to use would only be household and factory objects. I guess the strongest weapon I would throw in the game would be a shotgun, so praise it. The next most powerful weapon would be a pistol. (Thinking realistically, an industrial city does not carry rockets, grenade launchers, etc.) Of course, this brings to question, why would you need weapons if there aren't really enemies there? Now think back to the FMV (in earlier post)...the village burnt down, toxic waste, and exposure to radiation...think you get the idea now...You don't really know if they are there or not.

I plan to have a few more survivors in the game, which you will meet along your journey (unsure how many). The option I may leave for the game is that you CAN succeed with only one survivor...so having some chars die will not affect you. (There will also be character swapping for puzzles, etc.) So you can have characters die without ending the game. Although the amount of characters you have will affect how difficult each puzzle can be. And there will situations where having more characters will be worse. And I may even throw in puzzles that force you to leave one of your chars behind to die, so be smart on who you pick.

What I want my game to be is anything from the normal. I want it to be different, but I do want it to be difficult, and even more difficult for the hardcore gamer.

I've also been thinking about difficulty for hard mode (there is normal and hard mode, you can choose either difficulty in the beginning). For hard mode, I'd add a time limit (realistically, if you stay in radiation too long you would die). Fewer weapons, probably taking away the shotgun. I'd have players injured more easily and more enemies. Lastly, I’d have a minimum number of people that HAVE TO survive the whole game. Get my drift? I'd make this game hard...nothing easy even for normal mode.

So any opinions on this game?

Grey Ninja, I would love to accept the offer, but I can't. For a few reasons.

1) I'm not really an expert in the 2D gaming/artist design. Hell, I had to go look up what exactly Sprite/Tile Imagine was (and I'm still not sure), although I have worked with Jasc and Adobe to create banners, but that is an entirely different field.

2) I'm not sure what exaclty I'll do either?.Just create images on a photoshop program with a 256 color pallete?

I'm pretty sure there is someone out there who knows more and can help you a lot more. Besides I'm a beginner at this stuff, (You sound a bit more professional having a job in this and all). Of course, if you want to talk to me any time, my AIM name is Darkestsith6; afterall, this isn't the best place to be discussing this. I'm on a lot, so try catching me on sometime. (e-mail is Darkestsith6@hotmail.com)

As you've pointed out that programming is not that hard... (I took VB in school for a year, and it was very easy). I think our school canceled teaching C++ and are just going to teach a crap load of java now. Although my main dream was to become a graphics artist. I've already experimented with the Unreal Tournament Level Editor, and have fooled around with 3DSMax and Maya at other people's houses (Damn, those programs are expensive).

But to get back on topic, I'd like to make several games [Horror, Strategy, Fighter/Adventure/Strategy]

Horror Story:  As you start the game, it hurls you into a GC logo, slowly smoking away into a FMV cut scene. *Cut Scene Starts*

A group of happy young kids are playing in their village (in the 1700's), as the dads take off to work, and the moms take care of the cabins. The night slowly crawls, as the village and its residents make way to go to sleep. As light falls and moon climbs, a legion of blood-thirsty-mentally-crazy-psychos raid the village sacrificing the residents (to their supernatural g-d). They are shown boiling the pool of blood and cooking the bodies as a nighttime feast (They don’t actually eat them all). After their feast, they burn down the village leaving it in ashes and ruins. No one escapes, and all are buried under the ruins of the village.
*Scene Ends*

*Once player starts game, another FMV begins*
Hundreds of years pass, revealing that industrial buildings have grown around that same area. They experiment with various intoxicants, but are unaware that these toxicants could have catastrophic outcomes. They dump the hazmats into a nearby dump (the actual location of the village destroyed); the remains of the village display as a ruined and unfertile area. The collection of toxic waste piles up and a horrible accident occurs. One day, a nighttime delivery truck (carrying fuel) crashes into the power plant, causing a large explosion to occur. The lights go out in the city. On top of that, the power plants radiation leaks into the atmosphere slowly making the place unlivable. The city evacuates most of its inhabitants, except for a few survivors in the power plant, which the city assumed were dead. There is only access to the city by a bridge, and the city decides to destroy it, preventing others from accidentally traveling into the city.
*FMV Ends*

*Camera zooms into a character*
The game slowly shows you a wrecked area, as they show a women waking up from a slight concussion. She is unsure what happened, but is shocked to see her work place (power plant) in ruins. The cut scene ends and the player is given control of the character to explore the city...

(I'll add more to the story and many spooks that I have thought about, but I have to run for now)

Is it too hard for you guys to just wait it off another day...or do you guys always have to be wise-asses about the megaton thing...it gets old pretty quick.

I think the most innovative  and new idea I've read in this thread is by Chode2234.

What a clever idea to counter Microsoft's and Sony's entertainment system with their own Mega-Gaming system. I mean...I think now DVD compatibility is like asking for a VCR in your console...who cares. A majority of homes already have a DVD player...I'm not sure adding one is anything special...(you've prob got the main DVD player hooked up the the biggest TV in the house any ways, and that's probably where you watch all your DVD's too. Having another DVD there won't change the fact that you'll switch to wathcing DVD's on a smaller TV).

But I don't think adding a built in GBA/GB port is good. I think that would drop the sales of the GBA, and that is something they shouldn't do. I'd like that feature a lot, but I'm not sure it would be better in the long run.

All the other suggestions are good too. I'm glad this is one of the threads that is keeping it realistic without throwing out outrageous ideas.

(I'm not sure which forum this would go in, but I'll let the moderators decide)

Imagine if you could create your own games? What would it be like? How long would it be? 2D or 3D? FPS? RPG? Would it be original? Would it be a sequal? Prequel? Would it be multiplayer (if possible)? Would it be LAN? Online? Adventure? Action? Mystery? Horror?

The possibilities are endless, but I've always been fascinated by new and innovative games, and I'd like to see how imaginitive the readers here can be.

Maybe we can even create our own game and submit it to Nintnedo, lol. I'll be posting up my own original idea up soon. But I'm all ears for what you guys can think of.

(Just pretend you have no cost limit, etc. But do try to act realistic to the fact that this game could be made onto one CD, etc.)
