Nintendo Gaming / How are you supposed to rate a port of an old game?
« on: February 18, 2003, 02:25:54 PM »
Zelda's really not that old.  Well, maybe five years doesn't seem that long when you play the game twice a year.  Besides, it has enough new stuff to be reviewed again.  Maybe the reviewers just got frustrated.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo-No follow up ads
« on: February 18, 2003, 02:16:25 PM »
Hah, I love how you mentioned those ads.  Nintendo is accused of being kiddy, while the most notable commercial you mention for the Gamecube is Metroid.  On the other hand, XBox and PS2 are famous for Blinx and Sly Cooper.

Nintendo Gaming / wavebird?

The only flaws are the horrible appearance (needs to be large for the batteries) and the lack of a rumble.  If you enjoy that nice little *shake*, then mayhaps a WB is not for you.

Which is where the save file from Golden Sun comes in.  You have to have completed Golden Sun for it to work, but if you can do it at a low level, that would make the battle quite a bit easier.

Nintendo Gaming / The new Pokemon Game for GCN
« on: February 17, 2003, 09:32:59 AM »
I still think that destroys the strategy.  The main difference between your Butterfree and the other guy's is that your's didn't forget Harden in favor of Leech Life.  This could signifigantly change a battle.  However, if the other guy has one more move in addition to Harden, then the battle becomes dull.  Having only four moves supplies variety.  Keep in mind, Pokemon is not Final Fantasy.  You can't interchange one aspect for another.

As for the online aspect (should it ever exist), I think your character should be allowed to change clothes.  Think about it: in the game, all the trainers dress like "Flamethrowers" (who, obviously, use Fire Pokemon), Schoolgirls (cute, normal Pokemon), etc.  You could completely throw someone off by dressing as a fisherman and fighting using Grass Pokemon.  This would force you to keep a well-balanced, powerful team.

One thing that must be implemented is the ability to end a battle for various reasons.  For example: in the link-up Gameboy versions, the battle can not continue until both people make moves.  If someone you were battling were to just get up and go to lunch during a battle, you'd be screwed.  There should be a three minute wait, where, if the other character doesn't choose an attack, the match will be awarded to you.  One of my friend's GBCs ran out of batteries during one of our fights.  My game decided to not react.  I had to save beforehand, but it was still annoying.

Nintendo Gaming / Contra: Shattered Soldier ported over to GameCube
« on: February 17, 2003, 09:20:30 AM »
Nintendo fans do have the right to complain.  Despite what you may think, Konami is not being "charitable" by porting a game to the GC.  Konami owes Nintendo it's lifeblood.  They never would have become the power they are now without the NES, the SNES, and (most importantly) the GBA.  Nintendo lets them freely develop for the GBA without a contract clause that they need to support the GC.  It's the same clause they have with Square (rather, it's subsidiary company).  Konami makes a ton off the GBA, the least they could do is give us what we want on the Gamecube.

So, yes, we have a right to complain.  Imagine if Nintendo only supported the GBA, and occascionally threw an N64 port at the Gamecube.

well personally i think sonic is SUPER kiddy now, i dont really like sonic adventure at all, i really like the levels where u simply fly in one direction ie: thje snowboard level. They should make the whole game like that with a aphatter story. Mario can be played by everyone and its fun, its not kiddy. but sonic adventure is...

Wow, that was just...wow.  I'm in awe.  I really am.

In any case, Nintendo has about as much ownership to Sonic as they do to Megaman: It's just convenient some of the games appeared on a Nintendo system.

Also, I once heard a rumor that the Sonic Team actually owns the rights to Sonic.  Since they're capable of going freelance, I wonder how true that is.

Nintendo Gaming / Fire Emblem
« on: February 15, 2003, 01:54:30 PM »
I've been been saying for a while that Nintendo needs to release a Fire Emblem compilation disc as a bonus for another high-profile game that will be a guaranteed seller (Pikmin II, Zelda, what have you).  That way, you've just created an established userbase for Fire Emblem without worrying about having to sell the game.

The only problem is, this entails quite a bit of translation.  I doubt NOA's up to it.

Another thought occured to me; what about Animal Crossing 2?  I mean, actually within the game.  It's not that far-fetched.
