General Gaming / RE:"Oblivion" gets 4 1/2 yawns on a scale of 5
« on: April 24, 2006, 06:44:43 AM »
Smash_Brother: THANKS for making this thread!

I now understand why I felt like NOT buying an XBOX360 with Oblivion! I felt that I wanted to wait until the new Zelda: TLP comes out instead. Not that I won´t be buying the XBOX360, I will, but I will never buy the Oblivion game. In particular the parts where you lament the constant slow-downs which sacrifice gameplay over graphics is the best expample I have yet seen to fully demonstrate how right Nintendo was to NOT  jump on the graphics wagon this time! Gameplay always comes first!

Funny they named it Oblivion, eh? Because for many people who have played Zelda: OOT or MM adventures, and who have seen the new Zelda adventure coming out later this year on GameCube, Oblivion is one adventure game that will soon fade into... oblivion! It will never be able to beat ZELDA!!

Nobody can beat Nintendo on sheer quality of gameplay and excellence in the accompanying graphics!

The Oblivion game smells badly of being rushed to market, not being done properly in the gaming seems. That I have never seen in any Nintendo game. So that would be why Nintendo never releases a game  to market before it is READY. Something Bethesda could learn from!

General Gaming / Are these genuine Halo 3 screenshots?
« on: April 14, 2006, 07:02:36 AM »
IGN suddenly posted these screenshots of "Halo 3", and since some of them show scenarios that I do not recall having ever seen in the first two HALO games, I think this could be the real thing.

HALO 3 screenshots finally?

Can anybody on this Forum confirm if they are authentic? Another april fools perhaps??

Professional666, shame on you... naughty little boy!

Zelda will not be a "flop", in which I think everyone will agree (including yourself). If anything will be a flop, it will be the Playstation 3!

Phony Haystation III, Next-generation control nightmare torched!

UGO - what´s that?

As for this thread, it seems it is drifting totally away from it´s intended purpose: a discussion about the new Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

But then again, what´s really left to be discussed? Hasn´t everything about that game already been discussed to death? I personally am just waiting for the game to come out. On that merry day, after buying the game, I will take it with me to the highest building I can find in my city, and there THANK the Gaming Gods for allowing us to once more experience the joys of Hyrule - this time a hundred times better!

Og thank Heaven for Sev...erh...Nintendo Heaven!

I think we will get The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on exactly the same dates where it came out in 1998: November 24. or 25. (I got it on the 30.)!! I think they will release it simultaneously worldwide like they promised earlier.

It will become the greatest RPG ever released to any console, having Forums across the world white hot with frantic discussions, and loud cries for gameplay help (one of the producers said it would be so hard our brains would melt).

OOT was named Game of the Century, this one will be named the same.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Metroid Prime 1: NEED HELP!
« on: February 17, 2006, 08:29:30 AM »
What I did, was to flip out my scanner and just keep running it over the terrains whereever I was. In that way, I could quickly see if something lighted up in bright orange or red because it had not been scanned.

Why don´t you just consult the guide found at cube.ign.com or gamefaqs.com?

In any event, I recall that there is one runic symbol near a couple of crates inside some weeds. Next, there is one right in front of the bridge which you jump onto in order to proceed higher on the ledges. Then there is one on the tree higher up, and finally one on the the last ledge you stand on before jumping up to the sunchamber acces gate!

Hope that helps. Otherwise it will  help others who may not yet have cracked that puzzle.

Professional666, THANKS!

I will try what you suggest! I do recall that I had the SAME problem with Flaagra in the Metroid game, where only an alert Forum member made me aware WHY I couldn´t get away from the damn plant boss, after delivering a barrage of missiles or charged shots. But after learning that, not that it wasn´t in the instruction booklet (I was so busy just getting to p-l-a-y that awesome game, that I completely avoided it, assuming I could do it all by direct on-screen learning, as I went along in the game. But then again - I was to become a lot wiser!)

Thing is that I really think I also did press the b button several times to get out of the way of this boss, but still got only a kind of floaty jumping which was too slow to escape the lightningly fast fish! But like you said, there is ways to let him take far more damage than oneself, even though he hits you!

What I experience is this: I shoot him with the light beam, and do damage. HERE it is MUCH easier to get OUT of the way in time! BUT when I get to having only super missiles left, boy, it is much more difficult to get away! Did you experience any of that? Is there a slower reaction time with Samus, when delivering Super missiles?

Another thing is that on several occasions my super missiles did NO damage whatsoever, but the fish hit me! Exactly WHEN do you hit it? Do you do counts after the fish begins to move from it´s corner, and to the point where it is easiest to hit it? I know the mouth has to be completely open before any shot, but then why does my shots not damage it? Counting helps the timing to be the same every time, if such is possible! Do you actually do that, to make sure you hit it precisely when it is going to "go in" every time?

If I can´t get this issue straightened out, I will get a lot more trouble when I encounter the other bosses, like, say, Chykka (shivers!)!!! So, here´s hoping you help me out on the Alpha Blogg one last time!

Does any of you know how I beat the Alpha Blogg?

I have tried five! times, and I can´t beat it, as it always manages to ram me when I try to get out of the way following the head-on hits with beams or missiles? At one point I had it´s energy meter nearly totally depleted, but it got to me anyway! Why can´t I get out of the way quick enough?

I wish IGN had a video guide, SHOWING how each boss is killed! They have only some of the encounters on demo under their "review" section for GameCube games. That helped me to understand how to kill Amorbis!

Just a shame that I cannot go further.

Roll into the Morph ball after hitting him? Would that be low enough to avoid it´s belly, and roll out of the unscathed, when it counter attacks?

Hope somebody knows a smart, fast way to kill him!

Just too much of a hazzle to go back, only to get knocked down again!

SEGA is definitely among the very best (in my opinion the second best of all), but they had trouble with stupid people in their previous management, which lead to the exit from the hardware market. I have always despised such idiots, who can make such blunders and have us pay with the death of a beloved console. Some people say "let them learn, and get wiser", I say: "not in my backyard! Not on this planet!" I have had it with stupid people who make huge mistakes, and let other people pay for it, and I truly hope that the bastards who were responsible for alienating the core fanbase with SEGA consoles, have been fired, never again to be seen in the videogameindustry! Somebody should put a tag on them, which would make sure they would be banned automatically from ever entering the industry again!! The vacuum left over from the DC was one that was horrible to live through, with the only other next-gen offering then being the hated ps2 console with its dark, evil colour and wrist-twisting joypad design. So those responsible for the near-death of SEGA should definitely PAY!

Strangely the XBOX 360 reminds me in some way about the DC, at least in the way of the joypads and the white color. Could this be what a next-generation Dreamcast would have looked like had SEGA been designing it?

To me, the F-Zero game on GCN showed just what can come out of it when Nintendo and SEGA join forces in the creation of a videogame! When I played it, I felt like both playing a Nintendo game and a SEGA game, atmosphere-wise! Still, Nintendo gaming atmosphere was the least predominant in that game, which was kind of sad to me, as that made it feel less compelling to play again.

But it was clear to me that SEGA has lost none of it´s potency, yet is being eternally surpassed by Nintendo in terms of sheer gaming genious! I see them as Number #1 (Nintendo), and #2 (SEGA), with the Nintendo games being more wholesome, more complete, more lasting, and more replayable! It really shines through that SEGA made their way from mostly arcadey like type of games, with Nintendo actually going away from that in the early days after that market had secured it´s first real success, and then going into exclusively making games for home consoles. That must be the reason why they are the best in console gaming overall! Makes a lot of sense, I think!

I believe that if SEGA can get it´s games to shine on the Revolution with that fabled new controller, grounds will have been created for it to launch a standalone SEGA console again. It is simply a question of beefing up enough userbase support and brandname recognition once again, taking gamers from Playstation and over to Revolution, and keep them really happy there. Then, once one of the other two bows out, space is left for them to fill out with their next-generation Dreamcast!

And do you know what? I really really think this is all going to happen! It is a secret though, why I think so!

Khushrenada,

I agree with you that it was very kind of SEGA to support Nintendo. Still, I do suspect that, at least in the beginning, it was more a question of making as much money as possible, as quickly as possible, in order for them to break out of the financial quagmire they were in then, after the hardware exit.

It is correct that the Nintendo way, is the right way. There simply is no other videogame maker in existence, who can make games which feels that way when one plays them.

Whether SEGA becomes a second party, or a re-enters the hardware market remains to be seen.

I don´t know what you mean, though, when you write that they still have some of the attributes which would create a repeat of the past if they entered the hardware market now. Which are they? I do see them as very much stronger now, and they have thrown in new and innovative games constantly, just like Nintendo themselves have done, and continue to do all the time!

I totally agree with you on you about the true reason behind the third-party support problem. I think that if Nintendo would once again become the market leader, they would control the direction of the entire market, which would save it once and for all.

"Why are Nintendo's games better? Because they've been making them longer and their system's provide what they need to keep making them of such high quality. Also, Nintendo needs their games to be of high quality to sell their systems. Thus they work hard at making sure their games excel."

Yes! And THAT is the same reason why I think that SEGA will one day be wanting to re-enter the hardware market. But, not until one either Sony or Microsoft are gone! Then they will fill out the vacant space left behind, since I don´t think there will ever be room for 4 hardware-makers on the market! We saw what happened to Nokia NGAGE and we see now how it goes for the latest all new entry to the handheld market!

I do agree that it won´t be until the next generation that we will see who will remain of the two console makers.

Thank for a nice post, by the way!

Let´s all keep sharing our ideas and insights!

I really think we will see something from SEGA in the very near future, and the reason why I think so, is because there is a definite need for something better than the current offerings from Sony and Microsoft to fill up the market. The stagnation that has been ravaging the videogame market for years, is simply because Sony and Microsoft don´t have any idea what they are into, don´t know games (like Hiroshi Yamauchi said of Microsoft), and there pump out a mediocre bunch of games, which if it wasn´t for the few highlights such as Halo and Gran Turismo would have long ago landed the whole industry where it was at the last market crash. Yes, I mean this!

They can deny it all they want, but I know for a fact that SEGA, as one of few, and even though they don´t have a console anylonger, has salvaged a lot for the gamers survival on said two platforms during this stagnation, by producing titles being way above the average and below-average games seen flooding the market. I have to merely look at the reviews scores for console games on, say, IGN, to tell how few games are really any good or really, really good! It´s companies like Nintendo, SEGA, Namco, Konami, Square-Enix, Rare (I almost didn´t want to mention them, but did anyway, as I still believe they have potential to return to the glory of the past once again) which continue to keep the market floating, and not sink like a certain luxury liner did in 1912!

So SEGA probably knows they could make mega bucks by returning to the hardware market, but only if they time it incredibly well, and that would mean not until either Sony or Microsoft throws in the towel! Some might argue that will never happen, but I think that one of them will have to bow out for reason of unprofitablity!!!

I don´t think SEGA would have a problem at all attracting support from third-party developers, since they are going to be forced to launch games on several platforms in order to remain profitable, and looking good in investors- and share-holders eyes!

So, perhaps we shall indeed see, that the two companies who were once the two most successfull in the business, with NES/Master System and SNES/Mega Drive, will once more return to the two top spots and duel it out again head-to-head! The emptiness left by the current two market leaders is bound to be whisked away, and filled out by pure gaming love from the Videogame Gods!

The SEGA Dreamcast was the second best console ever launched to market, in my opinion, only being surpassed by Nintendo´s 64 bit machine. That is in terms of gameplay fun. But in terms of graphics, the DC won of course. I will never forget it, and hope like others that we can one day see the return of SEGA to the hardware arena.

I was always enraged by Sony and their Playstation 2, and how they used cunning advertising campaigns, and so much money that SEGA didn´t have to spend, to crush the Dreamcast totally. When I read about how Sony fans were maliciously celebrating "The death of Dreamcast" I went totally mad with rage, and actually would have murdered them if I could have done it somehow. But instead Sony is now paying for their abusive ways, and "we don´t care"-attitude, which I find totally in order.

Never for one moment have I doubted that Nintendo will NEVER share SEGA´s fate, though. Nintendo might even return to become the market leader as Jim Merrick already stated. He stated it, but I THOUGHT it, long before!!!

For, noone can beat Nintendo in pure gaming spirit. They are, and will always be, the best!

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Revolution Bundled with Mario
« on: December 28, 2005, 06:02:01 AM »
Requiem, I KNOW that Miyamoto´s job is hard. I really do. Thet must get it right, for the gamers to be happy, live up to the high expectations, which is NOT easy.

But I also know that I would very much like to very soon see a great Mario platformer which is second to none since Mario 64 with Mario Sunshine dissapointing me, and many others a lot, since I am running out of must-have titles on the GCN, and there is still some time to go before we´ll see the Revolution launching worldwide. Hell, I know how hard it is overall for Nintendo to get all of the things ready for the worldwide release of their generation-next console, but I am just a gamer, a consumer, and therefore my perception doesn´t have to go any further than to the level where I after years upon years naturally begin to wonder about the whereabouts of a long-awaited, half-promised, and rumoured-to-death follow-up Mario title which I would looove to get my itchy hands on right now.

Still, no word from Nintendo about it leaving us in the dark prolonged, except that Iwata is putting pressure on Miyamoto to get a Mario game out for NRS launch. I know many other Nintendo gamers around the world feel the same way, so I hope Nintendo is understanding the seriousness of the situation if there is no Mario platformer at launch. I mean, there was many many people who was talking here on the internet about how the Luigi game, which came instead of a Mario game, at the launch of the GCN ruined the sales of same, and gave it a slower than expected start. That is why I feel it is crucial that a Mario platformer is launching with the Revolution, since Mario is the gaming icon which most people in the world know well, and therefore will respond to positively in terms of initial reaction if they see it launching on the Nintendo generation next console.

If Mario launches with SMBM, Metroid Prime 3 and a good selection of third party titles, we might be seeing the sales of the NRS skyrocket, which will be good for the brand new control approach seen in it. It is definitely important that the games with which one has to control in such a radical new manner are superb, famous, outstanding and just plain great in terms of game play. No better promotion of the new hardware than that!!!

I know nothing about the NRC controls, though.

"Having Mario128 bundled will also persuade people to connect the NRS with their fond memories from the NES and SNES days, which is a very powerful connection to gamers and older gamers. the message "This is the same Nintendo that brought you the NES, Gameboy and SNES"."

Brilliant idea! That is exactly how Nintendo should kick-start their re-ascension to the top spot in videogaming!!

Still, I really do think that Iwata is going to have to kick Miyamoto´s behind good in order for the long awaited Mario platformer to come out with the NRS. I have long tired of hearing Miyamoto doing experiments with Mario gameplay. But I do think that Iwata will have a bone to pick with Miyamoto if he doesn´t get his ass in gear, and deliver that Mario 128 game at the launch of the NRS. It is vital for the success of any new Nintendo console, to have a Mario platformer launching with it from day one, and Miyamoto has had time long enough for his "experiments"!!!!

General Gaming / RE:More Sony Lies

I don´t think Nintendo will go to any extremes in order to attract more developers. I really feel that they do things the way they can, the way THEY feel good about doing it, and that is the way that is! And the way it should be. They should not change themselves, just to attract more developers. That would hurt the Nintendo spirit of gaming cherished by so many gamers throughout the world. So that will never change, as it would hurt their coregamers. Their goal is to keep the coregamers, while attracting new ones all along.

I think they would prevail, even if they remained a number three in the next generation as well. But that is not to be. I see a big fight between Sony and Microsoft over the marketshares, and the winner will be the one who can ensure the most of games to play of a decent quality, cheap online access with a great service regardless of the low price, and to me that winner is the one with the most of MONEY which is, obviously, Microsoft! Sony is already hurting in several ways financially, so their limelight is starting to fade.

That would leave Sony as the loser, and Nintendo quickly overtaking them for reasons of people who will wan´t to buy a second console for the home which offers something different than XBOX360 (and the PS3 will be just the same as XBOX360) which most of them already will own at that time, so they choose Revolution! and there you have it: Microsoft in the number one spot, Nintendo in the second! Sony as number three! And what Jim Merrick envisioned for 2007 an emerging reality!

Even if all the developers are told by their respective publishers that games are to be made for only the PS3 and the XBOX360, so be it! THEY will SOON understand that they won´t be making as much money on those platforms, as they may think today, for the already stated reasons of a stagnating gamemarket where old-school gameplay is keeping more and more people from playing games since they take too long to complete, are too difficult to complete, or are just too darn complicated to get to grips with for the majority of people today. So the games they are so keen to get out on the two platforms WON´T sell as they are expected to.

Time is of the essence here, and people don´t want to invest as much of it as is required by todays games. Thus the industry has lost it´s goal of constant expansion, as it has come to an insurmountable threshold in time meaning it cannot go any further. THIS is what Miyamoto means when he talks about a stagnation in the market.

I repeat that the majority of the games that such publishers will put out on XBOX360 will be on PS3 and vice versa, but NOT on Revolution which makes it a better choice for people as they wan´t to get a second console which offers something substantially different than the other two. That will help Nintendo to gain recognition with more publishers who are probably right now sitting on the fence waiting to see what happens when the Revolution is lauched to market! But that is not to say that there isn t already publishers who have decided to release games on revolution.

What I am trying to say is that Nintendo has already triumphed. The upcoming consolewar is not with them, it lies between Microsoft and Sony! That is probably why Nintendo say they are in no direct competition with any of them!

So they´ve never had a BETTER reasons to advertise the Nintendo Revolution massively!

In what way is IGN a bunch of "self-important idiots"? I think they do a good amount of Nintendo coverage, and will be running their online service too. So you must be one of the nly people who dislikes them, KDR_11k!

General Gaming / RE:More Sony Lies

Yes, Mantidor, that´s right! They themselves believe they have a chance to become the No.1 again. And rightfully so! I believe they hit the nail head-on, interpreting current times correctly and how people need games that are far more simple to control!

And KDR_11k:

You may wonder why Nintendo do not snag the Indies as you call them. I don´t! Nintendo being tired of bad quality games, won´t take a chance on developers they aren´t sure of! That´s my belief! They know they have to deliver the best of the best quality in order to get ahead in the next generation, therefore they can´t afford to see software on their platform which "may of may not" meet required standards. I have so far not ever seen any software on the GCN which was so bad that it was comparable to rubbish games found on the Playstation 2! I think they (Nintendo) has managed to scare away a lot of the developers who simply do not understand the word "Quality" but only the word "money". There are exceptions, of course, in the way that some games become crap because they don´t get the required amount of developertime for various reasons, mostly economical, but this is not viewed by Nintendo as being their problem. Their "problem" is to get games out on THEIR platform which will as far as possible meet the high standards of their OWN games, so that these third-party games, will at the very least look close to being as attarctive for gamers to buy as their own first-party titles. So that is probably why you don´t see them snagging the indies! They simply do not see them as a "major asset" right now! So they will never give them the stamp of approval.

You may not see Sony leaving anytime soon, but I see it! I see it like it came from several miles away, starting with distant noise, growing more audible at approach, coming head-on until I can see the whole thing up in my face, and it passes me by like a runaway express train headed in the WRONG direction!

But, I never attempted to think Nintendo as a company trying to control people, only influence! and that is what they have been doing for over 20 years and still continue to do!

I don´t think that the whole issue of Sony´s future revolves around policies of any kind. It has to do strictly with developers and how they view developing for the PS platform. As stated in earlier replies, rumblings indicate more of them are growing tired of Sony and the rock-hard developement cycles on it.

Nintendo is al about GAMES, which Reggie said on numerous occasions. Also about business selling them, naturally, but it seems to me that Sony is only interested in the business aspect of it all and less in the games! They seem very hollow to me, looking from outside and inwards, whereas Nintendo are much more complete from that perspective. They are far more mature than Sony, as regards games!

"Microsoft is a bigger draw for publishers than Nintendo because they offer better conditions.

I believe that what I read on trustworthy websites like [...] IGN.com,

EXCUSE ME?

Lastly, a great console won't sell if it doesn't have a good public perception and lots of marketing. Look at the Dreamcast, even if Sega had continued making it the DC was selling very badly compared to any other current gen console."

Microsoft may be more interesting to developers of a certain type, but already now several other developers interviewed are VERY enthusiastic about Nintendo Revolution thanks to the new interface. I think it will only be a question of time before people will be so enthusiastic about the new control that they will only wan´t to play like that. No kiding! First Person Shooters alone will become uber-cool to play and who will wan´t to go back to a constricted joypad, wireless or not, which limits the degree of in-game freedom! Once you drive a Ferrari, you don´t wan´t to go back to a Toyota, do you? just for the purpose of emphasizing the ease of control with Nintendo revolution and the other controllers from Sony/Microsoft! Nintendo´s next console IS a revolution and that´s the end of that. No religious talk! I MEAN this, view it the way you want! I was damning the way RE4 was difficult in the aiming-department, and now my problem is gone forever with the new control!

I agree that they need to market the Revolution aggressively.

By the way, Nintendo themselves will work closely with IGN! So what is wrong with IGN?

Dreamcast online wasn´t free, to my knowledge. It came with a monthly fee. So I still see Nintendo as being first to market with truly subscription-free online gaming!

"Talking about Nintendo being an "and" company is worthless if he can't show anything that has come from this philosophy. The public oppinion is rightfully against Nintendo because while they may deliver many great games themselves they cannot make up for the lack of major third party exclusives and haven't made up for idiotic decisions like the tiny non-volatile media on the GC. Gamers want games and sadly the games are on the PS2. "

Firstly, Hiroshi Yamauchi isn´t with the company anylonger. OK? His old-school hard-line hand of control is gone, but not the sense of direction of the company. This alone means that Nintendo is going in a new direction which is clearly seen in the lightningly fast initiatives by Iwata (he started the day he became President) with fast follow-up to change the old-school Nintendo into a reborn company which will if things go according to plan (and so it seems) will put them back as the marketleader in 2007 and forward. So they CAN show something which is coming from "this philosophy"! And that is what I read in the news daily continues. Nintendo DS, free online (a first for the industry), Revolution with revolutionary control changing consolegaming forever and new as of yet unseen initiatives from Nintendo to be revealed at the end of the year. So it does indeed look rosy, doesn´t it! At the same time they are trying very hard to make it easier to make the games themselves, lowering licensing fees, enabling developers to think in diferent ways towards gamecreation which will significantly lower the
production cost of each game made, thus helping struggling developer companies to gain some much needed ground in the industry awakening hope in the world of consolegaming when it is being dominated by a company which has held dominance for far too long, perhaps flooding the market with games but in the process lowered the overall perception of gameplay quality, and overall morality as goes for paying for the software releases. They entered the market like a hurricane, and left a trail of destruction like a real hurricane does, and now they will leave the same market like a hurricane also does after raging on for only so long.

Don´t believe me? That is your decision. I have heard the rumblings of the market where developers are seeing the New Light being turned on by Nintendo (and to some extent Microsoft) which in contrast makes the old-school Sony style of management and marketing attitudes look less and less compelling to developers. Were it not for Nintendo, there would be no changes in the all-time high- and rising costs of videogame developement! They are a most welcome and fresh influence in the industry. In a way they have always been, but the hard-as-nails perception that they are only for kids has unfairly weghed them down for too long, probably also being the very reason why too many third-parties didn t give them a fair chance. I read about all of these things daily, weekly in the videogame news and I believe that what I read on trustworthy websites like this one, Kikizo.com, IGN.com, Revo-europe.com is to be taken as ample proof that they put action behind their promises! The Revolution is already rolling, and I believe it will continue to roll and take a lot of gamers with it. A lot more than in this generation!

No, KDR_11k I am not an acid salesman!

But I think you are, with all that negativity you always throw in my face when I state my positivity towards all things Nintendo! And by the way, I think you not only sell acid, you´re also on it no doubt since you are so convinced that I am so wrong about Nintendo! YOU are the one living in a world of illusion, not me!

But that will be seen shortly, of course. And that is where I think I will finally have some peace from your negativity.

There is absolutely nothing wrong about being wonderfully positive about Nintendo´s future, in particular if it is based on fact and not fiction!

I always kind of wonder what you are doing here in a Nintendo Forum, when you are so pessimistic about Nintendo´s future! Me painting too rosy a picture of them for you, huh? Too bad if you think so, because I think you paint one which is too negative!

Yes, they´re here and they´re here to stay!

Thank the great videogame God for that! Thank him until you can´t say "thank you" anymore that day, and then go on to start thanking him again untill you drop on the next!

Nintendo saves us all from videogame annihilation!

Yes, really!

And I do feel I have explained the "how" of it!

It may not go precisely like that, but overall Nintendo should be OK for the future, and more so than now. So I don´t think Iwata has anything to worry about in terms of sales of the Nintendo Revolution!
