TalkBack / Re: The SNES 20
« on: August 09, 2011, 05:34:05 PM »
I always wanted the second version of Super Mario All-Stars (the one that added SMW), but it was so rare because the only way to get the game was to buy a new SNES with it packed in.

I bought that SNES package. Still have it! Need to get one of those modern TV adapters though. The we can play on the 57 incher instead of the old 14.

I hope Billy comes back soon!

Also its kinda sad when your own retroactive players voted upon a title specifically to troll you.  I think you should dictatorial do Baten Kaitos Origins.

This is patently untrue. Folks voted for it because they are interested in it and because it should provoke interesting discussions. I call foul!  ;D

I'll be there. Jonny's holding me to my word.

Woot.

Wow, since the K7 win this thread has become full o' grapes.

Sour ones that is.

Karl really should be invited for the K7 discussion. Its the only fair and balanced thing to do.

Same here: loving this game on the 3DS thanks to e-shop. The translation is funny.

Highly recommend this game.

TalkBack / Re: Iwata Taking 50 Percent Pay Cut Over 3DS Sales
« on: July 29, 2011, 05:52:50 PM »
I wonder how this pay-cut idea came about? Hmmm...

(phone rings) **ring ring**

Iwata: Konichiwa. Who is calling, please?

Caller: It is I, Hiroshi Yamauchi.* Konichiwa, Iwata-San.

Iwata: Many happy greetings, Yamauchi-San. How may I serve you this day?

Yamauchi: Iwata-San, I have learned of this quarter’s losses and revised earning projections for our company. Most unfortunate.

Iwata: Most unfortunate indeed, Yamauchi-San.

Yamauchi: Stock prices have fallen sharply. Thus, I have cut in pay. Now you take cut in pay too.

Iwata: Of course, Yamauchi-San. I will announce tomorrow.

Yamauchi: Sayonara.

Iwata: Sayonara.

I voted Killer 7.
It'll be fun to hear Jonny (and James) bitch about it. But it'll be even better if Karl is on the 'cast. If Killer 7 wins, Karl must be brought in!!

Also, I own the game but have barely played it. So, there's that too.

Doesn't that also mean we're the most likely to buy these games when they become available for purchase, so Nintendo should offer something we're less likely to buy?
That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If Nintendo is giving away for free items I would likely buy anyway, then this is a good gift. If they give me something I may not have wanted, this is not a good gift and I may still feel slighted at the big price drop.

2285
This really is an "everybody wins" move on Nintendo's part. Folks buying after Aug 12 get a very attractive price and a decent line-up of games to choose from. Also, the e-shop is up and so is Netflix and Nintendo Video (things early adopters had to wait for).

The folks that bought already are getting a big gift of VC games, only half of which have been announced and those ones have very good selections. And who would care most about VC games? You guessed it: the early adopters. The Nintendo faithful. The hard-core fans.

This is really great PR for all. I hope the 3DS sells like gangbusters from here on.

And it doesn't hurt that the price drop is a big "**** you" to the Vita ;-)

TalkBack / Re: Breaking Down the 3DS Ambassador Program
« on: July 28, 2011, 01:44:54 PM »
The best deal in town will be at Canadian WalMarts, this weekend only.

For some reason, WalMart Canada will be selling the 3DS for $198, this weekend only. Sure, it's not the $170 that will drop August 12 but if you buy now, you can get in on the very valuable Ambassador Program.

I already have a 3DS ... but none of my 3 kids do...yet

...hmmmm...

I played the demo. Yes, they DID have assistance from Nintendo in the form of a playable demo that was up on the Wii Shop Channel for awhile.

I didn't like the demo. So I didn't buy the game.

I'm really digging the visuals of this game right now. It looks like maybe they have polished them a bit since we last saw them? Or maybe NWR's video quality is just good? I dunno.

But I'm getting a sort of Dragon Quest VIII vibe off of these visuals. I like them.

Same thing happened to me. I called the Nintendo phone line and a recording told me that the call volume is currently too high so I had to call back later. I'll try the "zero, zero" thing next
pretty sucky, Nintendo

2293
The same is true with Super Mario All Stars. You could buy all three games off the VC for 500 points each for a total of $15 which is half of what All Stars cost when it was released. Now that its discontinued the price of it is probably even higher.
I thought you could not buy the SNES versions of SMB 1, 2 and 3 on VC, just the original NES versions? So, unless you have the SNES cartridge (like I do) these games are indeed exclusive?

Just picked up Scourge Hive for GBA.

I'd say yes but then I only ever owned Prime 3 before getting the trilogy. The controls are fantastic though.

These are great, Jonny. What a cute kid you were! These recordings are a nice time capsule of both the industry and of younger-you and I think it took considerable humility to share them. Thanks for letting us have a listen.     My favourite comment of yours was that you didn't feel you were eloquent speaking about games but were OK writing about them. LOL! I guess you've fixed that, haven't you. Nowadays, you are very eloquent speaking about games. One might even say loquacious!  ;D

I just don't think this is coming to North America. Just a feeling. Here's hoping, though. Maybe Atlus will pick it up? Or that other one that publishes obscure Japanalia?

I got 10 hits at Video Games Live. Not as many as I had hoped but still not bad.

@Tanatoes, I don't think you have to have the system in sleep mode for StreetPass to work, do you? I could have sworn I got a hit on the bus the other day while I was playing some other game. Maybe I'm dreaming.

I had a DS game running with the lid closed (i.e. sleep mode) and the pedometer worked and recorded steps as I walked around. Not sure if StreetPass was working. I doubt it.
