Still say they should have added DuckTales 2 to the Wii Virtual Arcade.

Virtual Arcade? DuckTales 2 was a NES and Game Boy game, not arcade.

Meant Virtual Console.
Well of COURSE you did.
Spyke should know better.

General Chat / Re: Why do people hate Jar Jar Binks?
« on: March 22, 2013, 02:42:30 PM »
My opinion of Jar Jar has swung back and forth like his ears:
1. I saw TPM on it's release as an adult. I thought Jar Jar was ... just OK. Looked neat, had some cringe-worthy dialogue. Mostly harmless.
2. I saw TPM with my kids when they were little and saw how they reacted to Jar Jar, particularly in the toy stores. My kids thought he was funny. I could see their point. I gave Jar Jar a break. I could see how he was funny. I chuckled along with my kids.
3. I saw TPM more recently in the theatres with my kids who are now teenagers. We really enjoyed collectively cringing at how dumb Jar Jar is. He was a source of ridicule but he didn't piss us off. We had fun and laughed at Jar Jar quite a bit, but not for the reasons George Lucas intended.
4. I have seen several episodes of The Clone Wars animated series that feature Jar Jar. These people got him right at last. He is worked in logically to the stories in which he appears. He is genuinely funny. He gets results in unexpected ways because he is a clown character. He achieves his successes by accident. I genuinely enjoy his appearances.

Maybe I'll go watch it again, which will be a pleasure, so I can be specific because I can't quite remember now. I have the Blu Ray but its been over a year since I have popped it in.

I think it was around the time JGL was floating around hallways or maybe a bit later when LdiC was in his special crazy-wife world. I just remember some hastily delivered exposition dialogue that explained the new developments in the logical progression of dream worlds that went by so fast I didn't quite catch it and couldn't be bothered to rewind because, much like with The Big Sleep, I was more interested in and enthralled by the immediate on-screen action than with piecing together the overall logic (or lack thereof in the case of The Big Sleep.)

I'm really excited for this.  Moon was one of my favorite DS games.  I hope this is a full retail game but I doubt it.  I'll definitely have to get this.
Yeah, Moon was great but this seems like they are going back to their horror roots, like with the Dementium games. I would have preferred another sci-fi setting, personally.
Dementium was technically impressive but a bit lacklustre otherwise. I never played Dementium 2.

Cool! Never played the original but its legendary status has always had me interested.

Somewhere, Warren Specter is shedding a little tear that he isn't bringing this one forward.

I lost the thread in Inception about 3/4 of the way through, all 3 times I saw it. But then, I didn't care. I was in it for the fun.
Remionds me of The Big Sleep. Don't bother to try to solve the mystery, just enjoy the process.

My sad tale:
Queued this up for $30 purchase from Origin today. Ran out of time. Went back two hours later (after my meeting), no longer on sale.

It's showing on sale for me: http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.251734800

Is this a Canada thing?
Must be. It show $59.99 for me.

That is sad.

Sorry.  Time to go to Target and buy three games if you can find them.
Not in Canada it isn't, but I appreciate the suggestion.

Hey, it is possible. For those who watch wrestling, some wrestlers are that strong (The Big Show weighs about 450 pounds and John Cena has lifted Big Show up onto his shoulders).
It's all done with wires and mirrors, man. Andy Kaufman proved it!

I don't think I've ever felt that lost in a movie before. Maybe I'm an idiot or something but just....yikes.

You are not alone, a reviewer for Esquire said "anybody who claims he fully understands what's going on in Primer after seeing it just once is either a savant or a liar".
I felt that way about Inception. But I still loved it.

Chad, you should also know, if you don't already, that buying digitally on Nintendo systems is different than downloading on, say, your PC. The Nintendo downloads are tied to your system, not to an account. So, you can only play the games on the system on which they were downloaded. If you lose your system, your downloads can be difficult to recover, though Nintendo Customer Service is often helpful. If you sell your system, the downloads go with it unless, prior to selling, you physically have your old and new systems together and perform a one-time system transfer. There are a few other inherent quirks and oddities, but you get the drift.

That said, I cheerfully throw caution to the wind and download full games on Nintendo systems regularly.

Dear RFN,
I listen every week; have for a long time. I am a listener.
I am older than Jon Lindemann. Considerably so.
So, yes, there are listeners older than Jon.
Love the show, good luck a PAX.

Lego City Undercover! (through Wii U e-Shop)
Played first chapter last night. Fun and funny. Looking forward to more.

Downsides:
no co-op, long-ish load times (but really ,not as bad as you have read)

Upsides:
very funny; good voice acting;
And the fact that you can take any vehicle, any time, with impunity (cuz your a cop). The vehicles are varied enough to have different qualities so jumping from one to another is fun and worthwhile.

That's a great deal, getting double your money's worth of Wii Points. Where did you find the cards?

The Source (Canada)

http://www.thesource.ca/estore/product.aspx?language=en-CA&product=5810407

Was lucky to find a store within comfortable driving distance that still had a handful of cards in stock... but it was the only store left in my province with any and it looks like stock is extremely limited.
Thanks for the link. I found one card, just one, within 100 kms. Fortunately, that one card is just a few blocks away. I will try and snag it after work today.

Rebecca (1941) 9/10
Not a typical "Hitchcock" film but still so good. Beautifully photographed, terrific performances all around. Especially Judith Anderson as the uber-creepy Mrs. Danvers. The housekeeper from Hell!

In before Ian

I for one am happy these ports are starting to show up. I have yet to pick up this game, it is on my radar, and now it is coming to my platform of choice as an enhanced version. The last piece of the puzzle is price. Or, more specifically, value proposition. When price is announced, I will weigh the value of the enhancements, included DLC, etc. against what I could pay for a new version for PS3. If the equation suits my value proposition, I will certainly bite. I feel the same way about Need For Speed.
I hope it is downloadable through the e-Shop; then I will get more value per the Deluxe Digital Promotion.

Club Nintendo claims there is some 72 hour Luigi "sale" on right now, where certain rewards are discounted. I can't tell which ones are discounted, maybe it is the ones that are already no longer available.
"Sale" ends March 19.
It is neat that they have a nice picture of Luigi, have changed the Mario Cap logo to Luigi's cap and the colour scheme from red to green.

Edit: I see this story is already on the NWR Main Page.

Funny I was just playing max and the magic marker last night on the wii. That game still holds up well and is perfect for wii. I did not know the developer had been bought by Microsoft. Too bad since it means their further efforts won't come to WiiU.

That catwoman raven fight was great. Except for the outcome that is. Boo.
I like the little background touches too, like sin kitty and the joker graffiti on the dumpster. Ravens special smash is hilarious too.
