TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Considering Wii U Rebrand?

Wouldn't single tablet play cancel out the Wii (we) part, though?
No because you've still got 4 Wii remotes and a TV screen.

Nintendo has made millions off of their game console accessories market (Wiimote, CC Pro,etc), so I would assume that Nintendo would want to sell these Umotes individually to cut production costs and then make a ton of money in the process.
That assumes that they aren't so expensive that people would buy them individually and that the system is able to handle them. If Nintendo can clear both of those hurdles, then that becomes an option.

The most expensive part of the controller must be the LCD screen and how much does one of those cost?Isn't the Umote similar to that Udraw tablet from THQ? If so, just use the price for it as a reference and then add the cost of the LCD screen. I seee the Umote being sold for $49.99 each when the Wii U is launched later in the year.

Well, it was pretty clear that they were only considering single-tablet play at the time. We'll have to see if that's changed.

Nintendo has made millions off of their game console accessories market (Wiimote, CC Pro,etc), so I would assume that Nintendo would want to sell these Umotes individually to cut production costs and then make a ton of money in the process. This is why I think we could get another revision of the Wiimote plus and nunchuck along with a wireless Classic Controller Pro with built in motion plus and gyroscope.

1254
Super Wii is where it's at. ;D ;)

1255
Might I make a suggestion? Super Wii should be th new name of the console.

Supposesdly the newer Xbox system is going to reject used games ad might use Blu Ray:

It's not clear if that means that the system wouldn't play used games or how such a set-up would work. Obvious approaches—I'm theorizing here—like linking a copy of a game to a specific Xbox Live account could seemingly be foiled by used-game owners who would keep their system offline. My source wasn't sure how Microsoft intended to implement any anti-used game system in the new machine.
A push in any way by Microsoft against used games would likely be cheered from publishers sick of seeing retailers like GameStop crow about their revenues from the sale of used games. But it could potentially anger consumers who rely on buying cheaply-sold used games or even pass games to relatives or friends.

Microsft would shoot itself in the foot by adopting anti-used game measures for their next system. Also, I do not see them adopting Blu Ray because of Sony. They will simply opt for something propriatary instead, which would most likely be similar to what Nintendo is doing with the Wii U's game discs.

I said this onthe PS4 thread, but I think Sony will have the weakest of the three next gen consoles because they were always the most successful when they had the weakest console like the PS 1 and 2. This time around, Microsofot will have the most powerful of the three and Nintendo will be in a close second to Microsoft with the Wii U.

The FPS genre is so over saturated these days, so if Retro were to make another Metroid game I would rather it be done in third person in the same style as Gears of War or Uncharted.

1259
One thing that bothers me about these games is that if we do get all three and they sell in small numbers then later down the road we might have to pay a very large sum of money for the North American version of thse games due to rarity. The same is happening to Metroid Prime Trilogy and that Super Mario All Stars Wii edition. They are both selling for very high amounts of money.

What do you care about that?  You're almost a guaranteed Day 1 purchaser, Kytim.  If anything, that should be my problem since I can't get rid of my Wii without losing my ability to play my import Rainfall games.

Well, I was until the two rear tires on my Blazer blew out and then the starter solenoid (which caused me to miss the launch of Skyward Sword) and then my battery died due to the cold weather. All of this has set me back in money to atleast the summer.

Yeah, I am very aware of what Retro has done with Metroid and I am also aware that they also made the only worthwhile entry in the DKC series, but that's not what my post was about. Read it again.

I don't disagree with anything in your post, mate.

I mean Q Games could make a decent Star Fox game, but to truelly make the series cerdible again it needs to be deloped by Retro themselves.

1262
well, Retro would probably make the best version of Star Fox yet

How do you figure? I mean, they didn't make the best version of Metroid (Super Metroid) and they didn't make the best version of Donkey Kong (DK: Jungle Beat). I am confident Retro could make a great Star Fox game, but it would have to be pretty gosh darn amazing to be better than Lylat Wars.

Retro Studios helped revitalize the Metroid and Donkey Kong Country series, so why can't they do the same for the Star Fox series? Both the DKC and Metroid series had great interations of their series follwed by some what lackluster sequels that put their series fututre into doubt. If it wasn't a sequel that failed to please attentive fans then the series just faded from the lime light in some manner. The latter happened to the Metroid series and until Retro made the Prime series Nintendo had no interest in maintaining Metroid, or atleast deliverying a true successor to Super Metroid. Look at what happened with Other M. It seems from the way people talk that no new Metroid game will be welcome unless it is developed by Retro themselves. I mentioned this before, but a Retro developed Star Fox game would combined the graphical quality that Retro made with the Prime series and then marry it to the cartoonish and light heatedness (and diffculty) of Donkey Kong Country Return.

1263
I will hold onto my assumption that Retro is developing a new Star Fox game for Wii U until I see what they are actually making and it is revealed at E3.

TalkBack / Re: Third Parties Have Final Wii U Development Kits
« on: January 24, 2012, 04:02:02 PM »
I'll breathe easier as soon as I see that Rockstar has been confirmed as a Wii U developer. So far that has not happened.

I said it on another thread, but Nintendo would own third party developers if they could get GTA 5 and RE 6 as launch titles on their brand new console. Also, here we go again, but Super Wii would be a much better title than Wii U. Wii U is the most bland and terrible name you could give something. I hope Nintendo changes it at E3 of this year.

1265
I wonder how long this TMNT game has been in development?

1266
I mentioned beofre that Rocksteady would be a good choice to develope a TMNT. I played a little of Arkham City and loved it, so a new TMNT game would be very welcome. The last few TMNT have been pretty abysmal, and the Arkham games have been a love letter to Batman fans, so I assume that this new TMNT game will be a love letter to TMNT fans as well.

I have been taking ym time with this game so far. I took a few hours to adjust myself to playing with motion controls. I have just reached the desert and so far the game is absolutely good. If the the game up to this point is indicative of what is ahead then I am excited to put more time into this game.

It might be too early to say this, but Skyward Sword might be the new Ocarina of Time in terms of being the best in the series.

Reasons for why Resident Evil 6 could be announced for the Wii U:

  • Nearly every single Resident Evil game is a available for a Nintendo system, so why should the Wii U be any different?
  • The sales figures of Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition.
  • If Resident Evil Revelations is a success then Resident Evil 6 on Wii U is certainty.
  • The sales figures of Monster Hunter for the 3DS and the fact that Capcom trusts Nintendo with an already popular franchise (in Japan) adds even more credence to the RE 6 being on Wii U.

I remember way back when the Wii first came out there was supposed to be a Bob Ross painting game in development for it, but I guess nothing ever came of that.

What are your predictions, Chozo?

With Mario Paint for the Wii U you could use the Umote as your easel and the Wiimote itself as your brush. It would incorporate motion plus for precise drawing and swipes of the Wiimote. Also, Nintendo needs a casula title to bundle with the Wii U and I think that Wii Sports title will not cut it this time. If Nintendo came out with a new Mario Paint title then every fan would buy it.

i think this e3 will be similar to the e3 where Nintendo first showed off Pikmin/Kameo

i can't wait to see what Nintendo does with decent hardware, i pretty much already have with the Zelda demo, but you hope to see something more real. I'd imagine Nintendo might spend less time making more games this generation. I'm of the school of thought that with more power comes less restraint for making games. Its also, pretty validated given how much UbiSoft puts out. Its always nice to build levels without worrying the system will crash

Less casual titles?

Even if that assumption is correct (which no one knows), each game would still require some adjustment.

Don't get me wrong, I want to see as many games available as possible on Wii U. I just think it's not so simple.

I don't like making predictions, although I think it's safe to assume we could find out the release date for Wii U (not 100% sure).

The reason I would want that to happen is so that I can avoid buying another console an djust focus on the Wii U and get every game that I missed by not owning a PS3 or 360.

Pikmin 3 and Mario Paint could be Wii U launch titles with F-Zero and Star Fox revealed via trailers and announced for 2013.

Edit:

About every game being on Steam, I meant the really good top tier titles released in the last five years. The shovelware can stay where it is at for all I care.

Not a chance that Nintendo will have that many launch games. No Nintendo console other than the NES has had more than 2 first party launch games (in fact, they have always had 2 first party games).

The latest RFN talked about why you should not expect every Steam game to be available even if it's on the Wii U. Every single game on Steam would need to be re-programmed to work on Wii U.

And I think it's a long shot that the name will change. I personally like the name Wii U, but I also see no reason to change it. "Super Wii" sounds like just an expansion for the Wii, and I can't see any other name that would be better and keep the Wii branding.

I remember Jonny Metts saying something like if the Wii U is as close to a PC as we think it is then they might be able to port over a lot of games without a whole lot of issues.

Nintendo Gaming / E3 2012 Predictions
« on: January 20, 2012, 12:30:14 AM »
We only have about six months until E3 of this year starts, so I thought we would discuss our predictions here on this thread. Here are some of mine:

Wii:

Last Story and Pandora's Tower will be made available for North America the same way as Xenoblade.

Reggie will state some life time sales of the Wii and then abandon the Wii entirely during the presenation.

3DS:

New Super Mario Brothers 3D will be announced with a holiday 2012 release.

A new 2D Metroid game is revealed and it will be developed by Wayforward.

Miyamoto's new game will be revealed, or talked about with more information throughout the year.

No 3DS revision will be mentioned.

Wii U:

GTA 5 will be announced for the Wii U. In fact, a member of Rockstar will walk out onto the stage with Reggie and Iwatat, roll up his sleeve and have the GTA and Nintendo logo next to each other.

Capcom announces Resident Evil 6 is for the Wii U and reveals a Monster Hunter game via video trailer.

All of the third party games released during 2012, but before the Wii U launch, will be available as launch titles for the Wii U.

Steam is announced for the Wii U and make available all of the third party games released since 2006 on their service for the Wii U. EA will also announce the Origin will on the Wii U too.

Gamecube will makes its debut on the Virtual Console and SEGA will announce the Dreamcast for the VC as well.

Wii U first party launch titles:

Mario Paint (bundled with console)
Star Fox (Retro Studios)
F-Zero (Monster Games)
Wii U Sports (Next Level Games)
Pikmin 3

Nintendo will announce further partnership will second level and independant developers throughout the fututre of the Wii U's lifespan.

Lastly, the Wii U will be changed to "Super Wii."

Should we start a E3 2012 prediction thread, or is it too early?
