Where's my additional podcasts, Hombre?

I get the feeling something may have gone wrong with the recordings, maybe Jon accidentally (or intentionally?) recorded his Lady Gaga impression over the panel.

I ended up spending all of my 2000 points on:

1. Dark Void Zero- Great bit of retro fun, with some new modern flourishes. Holding down to shoot down is going to take some getting used to, when I am in Metroid/Castlevania mode and my character is walking, holding down is always crouch, I bought it because of all the positive talk on the podcasts and Zach's review.

2. Art Style: Digidrive- A really fun and frantic puzzler by Q games, I got it because of the "Why Q games rocks my socks" article by Neal. I am looking to get starship defense and trajectile in my next round of   purchases.

3. Spotto!- Enjoyable, but it reminds me so much of beginner's dynamics lecture that I can see how it will drive me batty (in a good way). Thanks for the recommendation Zach.

4. Mario Vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!- This feels like it is going to be a real treat, already I enjoy it more than Mario vs. DK for the GBA. Neal's review sold me on it

Thanks for the great recommendations everyone. I tried to mention who prompted me to get each title because I am enjoying them all and wanted to extend my thanks.

What? Nintendo content on WiiWare/DSiWare? You want them to support their download platforms?

You silly, silly man. ;-)

Third parties always go "waaaaah we can't compete" when Nintendo releases a game so the download platforms aren't getting much to keep third parties happy.

That is a very optimistic view sir.

I really would have loved to be at the live show, but being all the way over in sunny California means that the trip wouldn't be worth it. No offense  :P:

Nintendo is to most of us a bad lover. She abandons us at times for more casual affairs despite our long standing relationship, and even manages to disappoint us in areas that we would have expected to be impossible. She may not show up to a date that she herself set, or invite us over to her own home for dinner and expect us to have a third party cook the meal. Still, despite all of these shortcomings we stay by her side, because when she is good she is oh so good.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I wish there was more Nintendo content on DSiWare. I have plenty of games like most available DSiWare games on my iPod already, so there aren't really many things that stand out to me.

Cons:
- HMs still suck

In-freaking-deed, gentlemen.

Slave pokemon work well, though. What would be awesome is if you could keep an extra pokemon with all of your HM's in your pokewalker and just press connect every time you needed to use one. What would be even more awesome is if HM's existed outside of the four main moves a Pokemon can have, what would be the awesomest (*word?) is if HM's didn't exist.

If that's the Game Boy Light, where is the Game Boy Colour? Is it the black one in the center?

It is purple, and yes it looks like a colour.

I know that some of the Newscast hosts are into DSi Ware (or so I believe). I just bought a new DSi XL and am loving it, but I am not sure what games to download. I have already downloaded the flipnote studio, which is great for a free application.

If you guys had to come up with a list to maximize a $20 card, what would you suggest? (Note: I like most kinds of games, but would not want to download a racing, sports or gambling/playing card game)

A super guide in 3D isn't more complicated than one in 2D. Emulators have recording abilities, that's based on the deterministic nature of the game (given the same input the game plays out the same though usually that means input from power-on, they'd probably force the PRNG into a specific state when the super guide is activated) so you only need to record the player inputs and the rest of the level will behave as it did when the playthrough was recorded.

Since I haven't made use of the Superguide I have no idea whether it is dynamic or not. Is it really just the recorded information of a playthrough?

I realize that, and I also realize that I want to wait at least year after the 3Ds comes out to see about the second gen of that.

I was kinda joking but....

Also, I have a job.

What was that supposed to mean?

Oh, I didn't mean to sound rude or imply that anyone here doesn't have a job. You really had no way of knowing what I meant; I don't have to pay for my college tuition, and I have a job, so that means that I am fortunate enough to be able to afford most things that I would like.

You do realize that there is a New DS coming out that is in 3D right? and it's bacwards compatible and probably the same price as the current DSiXL is not a little cheaper. You sure you don't wanna just ride it out for at least another 2 months till E3 and then another 6-9 months till it's released?

Darn it all, I am gonna buy one of these and trade in my lite. I do most of my gaming on the DS, and I just realized that it has been four years passed since I bought the lite.

I think he meant hurting his eyes like the resolution of PS1 game. Or an Atari 2600 game. The enlarged pixels were ugly.

Well that isn't kind! Just because someone or something is plus-sized doesn't mean you have the right to say hurtful things! DSi XL, you are beautiful, you are more sensitive than other DS's and certainly more modest with your toned down-colors.

The pixels are huge. They hurt my eyes. :-/

Does the XL literally hurt your eyes? That is a pretty big complaint if it is true.

I didn't say that person had to keep the system--ship it off to Mr. Jones when you're finished.

I already own a DSi.  While I don't plan to purchase an XL, I'd like to hear from someone in my position why I might want to reconsider.  I believe James still uses his DS Hevy--of course the XL is going to be a huge improvement.  If he were making a more incremental step--from the DSi or even the Lite--his opinion of the system would certainly be affected.

What exactly is there to know that you can't assess from a picture? If you already own a DSi, I would think that you are already familiar with all of the features of an XL outside of size. With size being the defining feature, it seems logical that just about any review of this device would mention it and ergo give all the insight that a DSi owner would nee. Plus, I think the bulk of the upgrades are going to be coming from DS lite owners.

greybrick, that is an astonishingly good deal if true -- but I don't see anything about it at the store's website. I'm skeptical that they would offer $90 of credit for a system that retails for $129, especially knowing that many systems being traded in would be quite old. But if that offer holds up, I might actually go for it.

There were a couple of boxes with that advertisement on them when I went in today, and the manager told me it was correct. So, for now I will assume that it is real.

Edit  I just called in to another gamestop to confirm whether or not this promotion was valid for the DS lite seeing as the Gamestop I went into also made the Monster Hunter mistake. It turns out, a DS lite will drop the price to $129.99, and a DSi will drop it to $99.99. Understandable I suppose, but it was enough to put me off.

What really bugs me is that when the first gamestop pulled the boxes with the promotion details printed on them to read the deal to me, and I confirmed with them that I had a DS lite, they didn't mention the different prices. They even tried to get me to put money down then and there based on an incorrect deal. Mistakes happen, but two employees at that store both agreed that a DS lite would get me the $99 DSiXL. The things those people will say to get your money, "If I were you, I'd put down the $25 right now so that you get one and you can just bring in your DS lite when you pick it up". Hooey!

All of the gamestop talk on this episode reminded me that I am still thinking about getting a DSiXL and that at Gamestop you can trade in your DS Lite and get the XL for $99.99. Now, seeing as I play GBA games on my SP or the Game Boy Player (still, yes) this trade in deal has seriously got me thinking. Anyone else biting?

Jonny have you picked up FFXIII or are you waiting on that?

Bought it last week, haven't played it yet. Unlike some people, however, I do eventually play every game that I buy. I plan to start FF13 as soon as I finish Mass Effect 2, which will be very soon. I'll probably just barely start it before leaving for PAX.

Well I hope you enjoy it, I have found myself having a better time with it than I did with ME2. I say that not to put down ME2, because I enjoyed that game greatly. I think the complaints of linearity are silly, I enjoy that the game doesn't pull a dragon quest on you. FFXIII propels you down a path much like ME2 does, except you play through a crafted story arc as opposed to choosing your way through that story. Where Mass Effect lets the player pick and choose what content they will experience and in what order, FFXIII presents a dictated adventure that to me at least ends up feeling more purposeful.

No plans for 200 yet -- I'm focused on PAX right now, and we've still got three months before the milestone. I tend to agree with broodwars in that we should not spend too much time reminiscing on the past. However, we can still do something special to mark the occasion. Maybe our Top 200 Nintendo Games Ever. No chance.

Perhaps the show can be recorded as each host races to collect 200 banana coins in donkey kong 64? just a thought :P:

Jonny have you picked up FFXIII or are you waiting on that? I only ask because I think someone mentioned that they were interested to hear what you thought of it. I am really enjoying it, even in the face of its blatant Japanesey-ness.
