Wow indeed.

This game is online only? Youtube comments said so, anyone know the truth?
Yup. Online only. However it's suppose to be free to play with you being able to buy different things with real money. Not totally sure what the includes though. Could mean maps, weapons, etc

Figured this might be the case and as suggested this could me GameCube remakes (3DS maybe?) or downloaded versions via whatever online system they have.

I'm pleased. :) I can't really be anything more. Information is limited but there is enough to take any concerns I had away. The power is there. The effort to work with 3rd parties are there and there should be nothing holding them back. Even if the PS4/X720 leap the Wii U (it's getting easier to say) it shouldn't be a massive leap. It might be closer to the PS2 compared to the Xbox/GC. Downgrades or upgrades should stop be possible without a drastic change. Certainly won't be a repeat of the Wii. It's a diminishing returns situation where Sony and Microsoft can only go so far the next go around.

Once I get this this new system I think I'll be happy with just it as there should be no reason for it not to get multiplatform games now. I don't really care to much about Sony and Microsoft first party IPs. Between this and the line up for the 3DS and the eShop it's been a good E3. Looking forward to what is said at the round tables tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully even more news can be passed on.

TalkBack / Re: Upcoming Wii Games Listed in Release ScheduleĀ
« on: June 07, 2011, 06:20:31 PM »
Only not completely disappointed because it is incomplete. I hope someone ask them tonight what the deal is with those two games (Xenoblade and The Last Story) when it comes to meeting with them. I really don't want to have to homebrew my system but NoA seems to be leaving me no choice if I really want to play these games.

257
Hopefully there are some good games I'm interested in. Would love to be a two hand held and one console (Nintendo) gamer going forward. That would fit my gaming time better. So I'm actually happy bout the price. Puts more pressure on Nintendo which is always a good thing.

258
Ugh at the lack of update.

Still there are a number of DSiWare games I wanted to check out. The Shantae game for example. Never played one but it looked interesting.

My guess is Nintendo is going to hold on tight to $250 until the month before PS Vita releases and boom it becomes $200 instantly.
Possibly. They might not have to though. They could just launch Mario on the same day and dominate Vita.

Nah. They're going have to drop the price. It's easy to see which is more powerful when directly comparing the two's graphics. 3D I don't think will be that big of a deciding factor unless developers start really making it apart of their game design and start making a big deal of it. Nintendo will have to drop the price and have a number of solid games out on the system. Both have to happen.

I think I'm going to be picking this up this weekend. I want a straight up action game and at the moment I don't really have that when I look at the 3DS games I do have. I had Street Fighter but realized I don't want to take the time to really learn a fighting game. Links, canceling, chains, etc are things that just aren't interesting to me. I realized if I want to play online and do well I would have to at some point start thinking about those aspects of the game. DoA:D was another game that peaked my interest but I think in the end I like the idea of playing a fighting game more so then actually playing one (Smash Bros being the exception it seems). I think back in the day I had more fun with the wrestling games then the Street Fighters and Mortal Kombats when I think about it now.

SWC seems like the fit but I've never played them before. Sword fighting, combos, etc are things I've enjoyed in other games. I'm a fan of the Diablo, Baulder's Gate: Dark Alliance games for example. I guess I could wait until Zelda or Resident Evil come but those fill a different desire.

Possible it isn't selling well. That might explain the trouble connecting with other players for random matches.

I'm hoping there will be some work around for YouTube. Granted I have other ways of reaching it, it still would be nice since they have 3D options for videos now.

TalkBack / Re: Square Enix and n-Space Making Heroes of Ruin for 3DS
« on: June 02, 2011, 12:25:29 AM »
Better graphics can be produced on the 3DS. That there is still a long time before the release is the only reason why I'm not going crazy about the graphics. I just hope they actually improve. Nothing short of GameCube graphics is acceptable in my eyes post-launch titles. There is no excuse otherwise when it comes to 3D titles  (in the 2D/3D area not 3D slider aspect).

Controls might be similar to how Legend of Zelda is being handled. Move all menu options to the touch screen. Use the motion controls where they make sense or in different ways. Balance in MGS and shooting in Zelda. I wonder if you'll be able to shoot while moving though. Resident Evil will have that so we know it's doable control wise.

TalkBack / Re: Letter From The Director: Easy Going Nintendo Fan

I've listen to the Newscast several times now and generally I think the show is okay. However count me in as another that finds the overall tone to just to negative. Not that Nintendo doesn't do things that they shouldn't be called out on. Sometimes though I get the feeling that the various host just don't want to be doing the show at times. That they rather be talking about something else. It's this reason I can't listen to the show regularly as I just don't want to deal with it on a constant basis.

I generally listen to Nintendo podcast because I find that Nintendo offers most of the games and styles I tend to like. I grew up on the NES and SNES. For a while I really into the PS1 and PS2 but once I got a Cube most of mine time was there. I have a Wii, 360, PC, and PS3 but the Wii has the most games and has gotten the most play. I'm not against other topics but the constant negativity is why I've tuned out other Nintendo podcast and generally every other system podcast. Especially because after the negativity starts it evolves into actual insults aimed at actual Nintendo fans. Other podcast about other systems just seems to take insults toward Nintendo and it's fans as a must have. I'd like to point out IGN's Nintendo podcast. After Matt C and Mark Bozon left (negativity had really started in their final shows) the next set of host just outright started insulting Nintendo fans and not in a joking manner (in their minds they thought they were joking) that it caused a mini-meltdown in regard to how people viewed that podcast and that section of IGN in general. Do I think that'll happen with the Newscast? I don't think so but really I see what it could lead to.

As suggested I do think those on the Newscast really should sometimes site down and try to listen to some of the episodes.

TalkBack / Re: Wii Successor Could Use Flash Memory and 25GB Discs
« on: May 03, 2011, 05:37:44 PM »
If true this shouldn't be a problem I think. SD cards are cheap and are getting larger. Those that would be willing to buy DLC would be willing to pick up a SD card or cards. Also aren't they less likely to go bad compared to a hard drive? Lack of moving parts and all that? Or is that just in regard to Flash memory. The biggest issue with this might be that it makes it easier for people to pirate DLC or to hack the system. For this reason alone I hope this is false.

Flash memory I can deal with. 8GB should be fine for most DLC. Think about which games get DLC the most and how big it usually is. FPS in terms of map packs, music games for songs, and games like Fallout 3. When most people move on to the next FPS they usually don't go back. So cleaning house for them shouldn't be a problem. Games like Fallout might be a problem. Combined the Broken Steel and Point Lookout download content  for Fallout 3 is over 1gb I believe. However DLC like this is rare. Between VC games, downloadable scaled games, DLC such as costumes, maps, modes, etc 8GB or around a little higher should be enough really.

What this will be to small for and wouldn't work with would be downloading of movies, music, TV shows, and the installation and downloading of full console games. PS3 and 360 have services like this. If Nintendo isn't going to have services like this on their system then they don't need massive storage. If they allow streaming like Netflix or music programs why do they need 100GB+ hard drives?

Still more storage is always good. If Nintendo is really talking to developers when it came to developing this then I expect them to have more storage in the end. Kotaku is the source of this remember. That should say enough.

Great night lead into a great day.  ;D ;D ;D

Seal Team 6 Rocks. President Obama Rocks. America Rocks!!!!

I haven't felt this pro America in a long time. I hope they release the pictures soon.

This is more what I was thinking with this design.  I'm drawing up a mock-up of what I think it should be.
This one looks more comfortable to hold over a longer period of time.

When you are playing music you can change the background by pulling the cord in the middle of the screen.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Nintendo seeks Alliance with other companies....
« on: April 26, 2011, 09:23:21 PM »
I almost forgot about the "Wii Would like to play" commercials.  They should have done those the whole Wii Life.
Those were pretty good. They were unique to Nintendo, had distinct music, and grabbed you. I never understood why they stopped those.

More importantly they should have took those concerns core gamers had to heart early on. Yes they put out games that were aimed at that but they put the spot light on them the way they could have. Battalion Wars 2 or Excitebots for example. They did not push those when they really should. Then they let them go out of print it seems.

I still hold, and this is conspiratorial, that many 3rd party companies crapped on the Wii the way the way they did on purpose. They wanted to poison the waters because they wanted the damn system to go away. They wanted it to be a fad in the strongest possible way. So they acted stupid. Acted like they had no more engines that they used on the PS2, Cube, and Xbox. They acted as if there was no core audience on the Wii, that those GameCube owners didn't exist. That they needed to find out what the mythical "Wii audience" wanted. So really even in the end if Nintendo did everything we wanted them to do I think the end result would have been the same. 3rd parties hated the system and wanted it to go away. Many I still hold have a straight up anti-Nintendo bias. Some more then others. When it didn't die it was to late. Either people picked up PS3s or 360s which is what they wanted or they simply ignored 3rd party efforts and focused on Nintendo games. Which hurt efforts from those that had a change of heart.

The Wii in the end did well in spite of the 3rd party efforts to kill it. For as powerful as the new system is going to be I will bet money that 3rd party developers/publishers will come up with yet another excuse for why they aren't putting their games on a Nintendo system. I'm just waiting for it. It's going to happen. That I'm 100% sure of. They never fail to hit that note.

Am I jaded? Yes. Perhaps I'm playing the Nintendo fan victim card. However I've seen nothing that makes me think 3rd parties will care this time around. They'll be the rare company here and there. That's always the case but the majority will try to screw the platform and it's owners once again.

I think Nintendo should do more themselves. More internal and secondary IPs. More studios. More output with their names on it. IF they rely to much on 3rd parties or try to make them the most important when they pull the rug out from them again, if it gets that far, they'll be stuck.

274
My vacation is going to cover the days of E3 again. I'm making sure I'm doing nothing those days but watching the streams. I wish Directv still had G4TV for moments like this but oh well.

275
Playable at E3? I don't think they'll try for a summer or later launch. I think we'll see another Feb/March launch worldwide the same way the Nintendo 3DS was launched this year. This holiday being focused on the 3DS and the last push for the Wii. Then come next year in Feb/March it will launch so the early adopters can buy. Then everyone else once the big named games come out during the holiday later that year. The Wii will still sell outside of Japan the same way the PS2 continued to sell but the focus will be on the new system at the very start of next year.

I'm already putting money away from this and for several games. I'm there day one as long as I can get my preorder in. I just hope they include both old school controller and a updated version of the Wii remote.
