Nintendo Gaming / Re: Super Mario 3D Land
« on: March 31, 2012, 07:59:23 PM »
The game has been enjoyable but don't feel it's as amazing as others feel. I'd still recommend it but I feel the Bowser fights were really cheap and didn't like them at all. The only one that was at all enjoyable for me was the last fight in world 8. Maybe it's  just me though. I could never get pass him without taking damage or dying. I did like the airship boss fights. I would have liked the arena style fights from Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy more. If Super Mario 3D Land 2 has those fights I'll get it but if it's similar to the ones in the current game I might pass. This is part of why my favorite 3DS game from Nintendo was still Zelda: OoT until Kid Icarus Uprising came out.

There was indeed a learning curve for me but I'm completely fine with the controls now. Didn't have a problem from the start but it took about three stages for me to be really comfortable with the controls. Honestly if one has played Nintendo consoles over the years and is a Nintendo they should be able to adapt I feel. Look at the controllers for the various consoles. One just has to be willing to learn the controls I think.

Got the game at release. Had some issues with the controls the first few stages but that's pretty much gone now. It really came down to being able to hold the 3DS in a comfortable position so I didn't break the 3D and once I got that things went great. Have no complaints outside of that part the game. Has been a joy to play.

I don't think this is intended to be a portable game. At least not the way you play a game on the train or bus. I really think it's meant to be played at home or at a gathering of with friends. I assume Monster Hunter on the PSP and 3DS are meant to be played the same way. I have no problem with that at all either.

Still haven't finished Skyward Sword. Does the Zelda discussion have any spoilers regarding that game?

If you were looking forward to it and are still interested then buy it. A review is just one person's opinion. Some dislike the game while others are really enjoying it. Don't let one review be the deciding factor for you.

I enjoyed Monster Hunter Tri but it really was a game that I wish I could play on the go or away from the TV. Animal Crossing has become the same way for me. I've been enjoying playing my 3DS while watching TV or using my computer a lot recently. It's part of why I'm looking forward to the Wii U's new controller and being able to stream the game to it while using my TV for other things. Until a Wii U Monster Hunter appears having the 3DS version will be appreciated. I was hoping this would come to the US.

Yeah. I really wish that Update option worked or they were clear regarding what it's suppose to work for if it doesn't work with downloadable games.

I just hope Nintendo didn't cut corners and half ass security and privacy on it like Sony did with PSN. Oh, and trophies too. If Nintendo got those two things right then I will be satisfied.

This is my biggest worry in the end. The security on the Wii is horrible. So far things are looking good on the 3DS. I just hope things are even better on the Wii U.

TalkBack / Re: Resident Evil: Revelations Now $39.99
« on: January 28, 2012, 11:13:04 AM »
Great that it's dropped in price. I'll be getting it now. The extra $10 was a problem for me to the point I was going to wait. The latest demo sold me on the game but still wasn't going to bite. The games already cose more then PSP/DS games. Capcom wanted to get even more.

Part of me hopes the reason for the change in price was that the game wasn't doing well when it came to pre-orders and sales where it was already released. Being hurt or worried where it really counts is possibly the only thing that got Capcom to change their mind.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Updates NOW available in E-shop games
« on: January 15, 2012, 01:12:52 PM »
That is terrible that the "Updates" feature is broken.  I've been checking "Updates" for months only to find that it's broken.  5 3DS system menu updates and they haven't caught it yet.

I really hope Nintendo are aware that it's broken. Has anyone ever contacted customer service about it? It has never really worked from the beginning I think and if I didn't follow forums I'd have no clue that I had things that had updates avaliable. I got no notice at all from the eShop.

Not really feeling the app to be honest. Finding it more annoying then anything else. It's so easy for this to become filled with spam messages in order for one to unlock the other features. Getting to the point where I'm just thinking of removing it from my system. The only other option is to make my friend list smaller and don't want it to come to that. I'd honestly prefer a message system with short pre-defined messages (that were tailored based on the games you have had in your system).

TalkBack / Re: Official Legend of Zelda Timeline Revealed?
« on: December 21, 2011, 11:14:52 PM »
Interesting reveal. The split timeline as a result of OoT was a given but a third is one I haven't counted on. Should be interesting going forward to see how they fill in some gaps as there are some more questions that result from this with the new timeline.

Normally I don't like to go to shop at GameStop but it's going to be cheaper for me to get it there instead of Nintendo.com (sure it's a few dollars but that is a few extra dollars that can go toward something else I might need or want.). I would love to get this from Amazon.com but oh well. I'll be in the area when this game comes out so it's not going to cost me anything extra in terms of gas.  Plus I'll get it on the day it comes out.

Same goes for the Circle Pad Pro if I ever decide to get it.

So is the online random match making or just friend code matches? That review doesn't make that clear.

Picked up my copy today from Best Buy after having Walmart and Kmart drop the ball by not even having the game on the shelf and not being able to put it up until someone higher up came in (Kmart) and not being able to find it (Walmart) when I got there early this morning. Ugh. Hate that. That's the 2nd or 3rd time I've had issues with Kmart after trying to take advantage of the $15 off coupons. I have until Dec 31st to take advantage of the coupon I have and I'm done with them. I'll stick with Best Buy and Amazon going forward.

Had a chance to play a few cups and do a few online matches. I need to practice the starting boost. Without it I lose every time. Until I can get that under control I might stick to the battle modes for online play. Going through 50cc to get handle the control and to learn the tracks. It's far to slow but I need the practice I think. The game looks great. Playing in 3D. The game has the same FPS no matter if it's 2D or 3D right?

I added the NWR community channel. Hope to see others in game at some point.

Doubt it. Was just stating the obvious. :) Though I do wish some of these more seemingly weird games would come over but fully understand why they don't though.

Anyone know how worthwhile this game is if one is playing solo? Seems pretty interesting and perhaps relaxing but don't have anyone to play this with so solo will be the only option.

Yeah. One less game to fill out the North American release schedule. No way this is leaving Japan.

I had been meaning to get World at War but it had been so long since it's release so when I had the chance I figured its online was dead or hackers had taken over. Also the lag shooting concerned me, especially since Treyarch fixed that with Black Ops. Having dealt with it in MW3 Wii before the patch I don't want to deal with that even if it is better then what was in MW3 Wii.

I couldn't care less, Treyarch has done a better job with the COD games anyways.

This. By the time Black Ops 2 or whatever their next game is my FPS fatigue should be gone or at least I'd be willing to put in the money and time into their game. Treyarch has built up some favor with me with how they've handled the Wii.

Managed to rent CoDMW3 though just to see what it was like since I'm not buying it and I don't care for it. The same way I didn't care for Modern Warfare 2 after finally playing it I expected it be honest. I really don't like the decisions IW makes with their games. CoD games in general are very similar but there is a actual difference in how the games feel and play depending on which developer makes them. How easy you die, how guns handle, the types of guns they decide to use, etc. A number of somewhat small changes that do add up when taken together.

Treyarch's games are slower paced I feel (in both single player and multiplayer) and they are better for it. Black Ops Wii plays and controls a lot better I feel then Modern Warfare 3 Wii because of this. The pointer controls feel better as a result. The pointer controls don't feel right at all to me in MW3 Wii. I played my copy of Black Ops and the rental of MW3 Wii back to back with a little Goldeneye, Conduit 2 (recently sold it) and Red Steel 2 thrown in. MW3 Wii is the one that didn't feel right to me.

In regard to how the game plays (frame rate (still bad even after the patch I feel as I played before and after it dropped. Even when aren't host the game seems to have issues.), graphics not just popping in, map design, etc) I feel Black Ops Wii has it beat soundly. The Spec Ops mode is better though then Zombies because we only got the one Zombies map on the Wii. If more had been included I'd give that to Black Ops as well.

Thanks. Guess we'll have to wait until people get their hands on the full game. It having online play with random players will decide if I get this or not. Local mulitplayer is worthless to me sadly.

I think I've finally gotten a handle on the flying. Enough that landing on the small islands is now doable. So far I've been loving the game. Controls are fine. Sometimes I have to remind myself to slow down as to make sure my movements are read correctly.  When I turned off the game tonight I was 8 hours and 22 minutes into the game. Currently at the second temple entrance. Actually just entered it before I turned it off. Been taking breaks to run around Skyloft and flying. The world itself as a dungeon is very true and it's even more clear leading up to the second dungeon I believe.

This game certainly will take a while to beat. I love it. :)

I do now know due to looking back, and seeing the Sheikah Stone entry on the first boss fight I made that fight a lot harder on myself. Ugh.
