I don't have a podcast section under my iPod (in iTunes) and it's not showing up in the music section.

I realize you don't have a podcast section in your iPod on the sidebar to the left, but does anything show up when you click the Podcast TAB on the top of the iPod summary window? I know you have a Podcast tab up there because I see it in your screenshots.

I don't think iTunes is scriptable in Windows, though; it's done through AppleScript in OS X and from what I understand Apple never bothered to adapt it for a Windows-compatible scripting language.

Oh good point, I didn't think about that.

vudu, what about the Music tab on the top of the iPod summary window? Can you click that and make sure nothing is syncing there? If nothing is set up to sync, try actually selecting some other things to sync (if you have any in your library), syncing your iPod up, and then going back and unchecking all the sync options, and syncing a second time to remove everything. That might flush your system out. If that won't work, what about restoring the iPod?
vudu, so the podcast in question is showing up in the "Music" section of your library instead of the "Podcast" section?

Not everyone likes how iTunes chooses to organize their music.  I have a very specific organizational structure to my music that is totally different than what iTunes uses.  Some people like to actually have some measure of control over their computing experience, but that goes against the Apple philosophy.  It is not like it is hard to have a media player that keeps track of changes in your music, lots of other developers have done it (in fact I would say it is pretty much a standard feature of modern media players).  So it is a perfectly legitimate complaint.

I never suggested that no one should want to organize their music differently from how iTunes does it. That's fine, and if that's the case, iTunes might not be the program for you! But what EasyCure is wanting to do IS something that iTunes can do automatically.

Anyway, it's really disingenuous to suggest that using Apple software means having no control over your computing experience. iTunes is scriptable, after all, and Mac OS X in general is endlessly hackable/customizable. If people don't do it as much as they do it to Windows, it's more likely that it's because they're happier with the default Mac OS X experience than the default Windows experience. At least, that's been my experience in using the two platforms.

vudu, did you try unchecking "Manually manage music", and then going to the Podcast tab and making sure no podcasts are checked?
Example:

-I download both albums by The Advantage
-Create a folder under iTunes/iTunes Music for "Advantage, The"
-create subfolders for "01 The Advantage (2004)" & "02 Elf-Titled (20006)"
-be sure to rename tracks in the format of "01 [track name]" in each folder
-upload to iTunes
-Change sort Album names to add "01" and "02" respectively in order to display albums chronologically
-sync

Why not turn on "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized", drag and drop the Advantage music onto the iTunes window, and edit the track metadata in iTunes, which will sort them into the proper folders for you? iTunes will also automatically rename tracks to the [track number] [track name] for you.

If you change folder names or file names in Windows Explorer, iTunes will not work for you, period. Use another media player, there are lots of them and many will sync with iPods. I don't understand why you're even trying to use iTunes if your workflow doesn't match up with the workflow iTunes is designed for.

Oh yeah, Playon sounds like a good option too, but haven't been able to use it, as I have a Mac.

Hulu has been super slow to show up on any non-computer devices, there is a ton of friction going on. Boxee has gotten Hulu access but they keep getting blocked. I'd say forget Hulu for now and go for a Roku box (unless you really want a Bluray player). EDIT: I keep forgetting that every modern game console now can stream Netflix. Surely if you're on this site you have at least one of them, so get that set up.

Yeah, Dropbox is awesome, I've been using it for a while. And it's a thousand times simpler to use than any FTP client I've ever looked at.

By the way, in that OS Airlines joke above, the Mac one sounds like the best option by far. If that's supposed to make Apple look bad, it totally doesn't.

My god these iTunes problems are ridiculous. I've never had so many issues, even when I was using it on Windows. I think most of the problems on this thread stem from assuming that iTunes will somehow recognize changes to your Music folder's file structure. IT WON'T. Turn on "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" in prefs, drag and drop new songs onto the iTunes window, let iTunes sort them by their metadata, delete the originals, and everything should work much better. And when you want to edit album names, artist names, song titles etc, DO IT IN ITUNES, NOT WINDOWS EXPLORER, and everything will be dandy.

I've read it a few times too, but not for the "big" iPhone games. The small ones probably get pirated so much cause a lot fewer people are willing to pay for a game they've never heard of and aren't sure whether it's any good. I imagine the big titles (Scrabble, GTA, etc.) probably have enough exposure to mainstream iPhone users (non-jailbreakers) that the piracy rate is much lower.

Look at all the "big" iPhone games, most of them have around a 90% to 10% pirated vs bought (don't know how they get those numbers though) ratio.

What's your source on that? I find that to be well nigh unbelievable.

Go and read the divine comedy in one sitting with an lcd screen to see how you feel after you finish.

I've read a couple ebooks on my iPod Touch using Stanza. I have no fear of going blind at any point in my life.

Lots of people pay for games. And you don't think the Game Center stuff will be used in free games?

Apple is starting to annoy me, the can make crap and sell tons of it.

So far I didn't care, but it boogles the mind that some people think the iPad works as good book reader when the e-ink devices are far, FAR superior.

And I don't care all the people defending lcd screens, they are in denial and going blind when they reach old age, I've tried reading papers in my desktop computer and it only gives you a headache, even newspaper articles are painful. For browsing a forum and looking at video lcds are ok but anything longer than a couple of paragraphs is torture.

This is SO ridiculous. Most people here probably spend HOURS and HOURS every single day staring at LCD screens, either at work or at home. I know I'm one of them. Blogs and online news sources are hugely popular and many/most of those articles are several paragraphs long or longer. And still, I don't think I've heard a single report of someone's eyes burning out of their sockets because of how long they've been reading things on LCD screens. If you are seriously getting headaches from reading news articles on your computer, which millions of people do every day, I think there's something wrong with you. I really think all the "e-ink is the only way to read on a screen" stuff is so much marketing BS.

Sweet episode tonight! How would they give you a satisfying payoff to the flash sideways stories if they didn't build them up and make you wonder what the hell they meant? Lost is all about delivering mysteries and then slowly explaining them.

If you want to give us a further look, you can get us at iTunes or Amazon, search Margo May, the album is called Summerof. If you do get it, download this album art, the album art that's on the stores is messed up at the moment: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/878328/Summerof/cover.jpg

P.S. I'm the new, fairly inactive guy :) I'll be on the next NWR Newscast podcast, so you'll hear my lovely voice then (and you'll know why I didn't do any backup vocals on this album.)

edit: Thanks!

I play electric piano for a songwriter friend of mine, and help co-write some of her tunes, and we just got our album finished up and online. It's fairly lo-fi pop/alt-country/folk music for the most part, so if any of you are into that, take a listen! Here are a couple of the tunes:

Movies & TV / Re: Rate the last TV show you've seen
« on: April 03, 2010, 03:59:35 PM »

Just wanna remind everyone that FOX is up on Netflix now.
Lots of FOX's TV shows are up for streaming.

We're talking about all seasons of:
Arrested Development, 24, Bones, Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Prison Break, The Dead Zone, X-Files, Firefly, Sliders, 21 Jump Street, King of the Hill & Rescue me.

Most of them listed here:
http://www.netflix.com/WiGenre?trkid=1457040&sgid=1446&lnkce=mdp-genre

But this allows me to catch up on those last 6-7 episodes of 24 that I missed last season, that also prevented me from even watching it at all this season.

HELL YES.

I just added Arrested Development and the first episode of season 1 is DVD only, what the hell??

NPR had me fooled for a couple seconds with a story about a small section of the healthcare bill changing every month to 28 days for budgetary reasons. It was very professional sounding and they had Paul Krugman on to talk about it and everything, and I was like WTF until I remembered what day it was. Never thought NPR would go that far for an April Fool's joke.

TalkBack / Blaster Master NES Sequel Coming to Virtual Console

The rare PlayChoice-10 arcade release is coming to Virtual Console at the end of April.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=22834

Sunsoft announced today that Blaster Master: Destination Fred, a rare arcade-only sequel to the NES classic Blaster Master, will be releasing on Virtual Console on April 26.

Blaster Master: Destination Fred was originally released as an arcade-only title for the Nintendo PlayChoice-10, a stand-up arcade cabinet released by Nintendo in 1986 that allowed arcade gamers to choose from a pre-programmed selection of 10 NES games.  Destination Fred was a late test release on the system, appearing only briefly in select locations around Los Angeles, California in 1989/1990.  According to Victor Ireland there were only nine cartridges of the game in existence, all of them in storage at the Sunsoft Japan offices.

The sequel has Jason and his tank "Sophia" being micronized and injected into Fred, the pet frog rescued in the original game.  The goal is to eliminate microbots that have been injected into Fred before they kill him.

Blaster Master: Destination Fred will cost 500 Wii Points.

BLASTER MASTER™:  DESTINATION FRED COMING TO WII VIRTUAL CONSOLE

Redding, CA –  April 1, 2010 – Sunsoft, a division of SUNCORPORATION  (JASDAQ: 6736), has today announced that Blaster Master™:Destination Fred will be released for the Wii Virtual Console on April 26th.

Originally created for the Nintendo PlayChoice-10 arcade system, and tested in only a few locations in and around Los Angeles, CA during 1989/1990, Destination Fred is a continuation of the story started in the original Blaster Master™, and a proper sequel to the beloved NES classic.  The game has been lost to the market since the original test market timeframe, and was never released for the home NES. "I was blown away when I saw these", said Victor Ireland about the PlayChoice-10 cartridges stored away at Sunsoft Japan's office. He then continued, "When I was going through boxes of stored code, promotional items, and ROMS to see what we had on hand to release for the US Virtual Console market, finding these nine completely unknown cartridges literally stunned me. I knew it had to be put up on the Virtual Console as fast as we could make it happen."

The game centers on Fred, Jason's pet frog that was rescued in the original Blaster Master™ game. The Plutonium Boss intended to inject microbots into Fred and Jason so they would be destroyed even if Jason defeated him, but he only managed to inject Fred.  After the opening story, the game begins with Jason and Sophia being miniaturized and injected into Fred to seek out and destroy the microbots and the diabolical structures they are creating inside Fred that will soon prove fatal.  "It's a pretty clear video game spin on Fantastic Voyage kind of adventure.", Ireland stated.

Kiharu Yoshida, President of SUNCORPORATION added, "I am happy that we can offer such a satisfying game to fans in the US. Perhaps now this will not seem too hard to complete. Please enjoy it."

The lost treasure of Sunsoft's archive, Blaster Master™:Destination Fred will be released for the Wii Virtual Console on April 26th for a completely reasonable 500 Wii points.
